Review from Tuan T.
Rancho Cucamonga, CA
The place is small and had a nice mural with some table so you can order in. The hostess was very nice and friendly. There was a shared bathroom in the back.
I ordered the Beef Shawarma plate and the kebab combo plate which had the chicken, beef and lule. Like all plates, it came with the pickled beets, hummus, a salad, rice and two pita breads. Both meals were served on Styrofoam plates and we got some plastic forks and knives.
The hummus was good and the rice was okay. The Beef Shawarma was rather dry and It was nothing to write home about. The kebab plate was great. According to the hostess, the beef kebab was made from Filet Mignon. The Lule was very flavorful but the chicken kebab was the star. The chicken was very moist and tender. If I were in the neighborhood, I'd definitely get the chicken kebabs again.
To be fair, this place was touted as a having healthy food so possibly the Beef was very low in fat hence it was dry. I'm so used to the Zankou chain where the beef had some fat on it. I'm still a Zankou fan. -
Review from Jane O.
Looking to have up a quick bite near the W Hotel, I came across Al Wazir's. Located inside a small strip mall, this place is definitely a no frills, hole-in-the-wall type of establishment. I tried the babaganoush and the combination kebab plate which included 1 beef skewer, 1 chicken skewer, and 1 kafta (ground beef) skewer, salad, jasmine rice, pita bread, garlic sauce, and hummus.
Neither dish was spectacular, but both the chicken and beef skewers were tender, juicy, and full of flavor. I loved their garlic sauce and wanted to spread it on everything! The babaganoush was rather bland so I wouldn't order that again, but the skewers alone was worth the visit. -

Nothing too special here. I've been here numerous times because the price is good for a lot of food. They serve your typical Mediterranean type food. They have rotisserie chicken, shwarma and kabobs.
Personally, I order the combo plate. It comes with a beef kabob, chicken kabob, and kafta (ground beef) kabob. I like a little bit of everything, so this is naturally a good choice. It is served with, hummus, salad, rice, and pita bread. It is definitely a lot of food, so you get a lot of bang in terms of quantity for the buck. As mentioned in other reviews, the garlic sauce is indeed pretty tasty. It's a creamy white garlic sauce that has almost a gelatinous consistency. It goes well with whatever meat you choose. It is indeed a versatile sauce.
Order at the counter and they'll bring the food out to you. The food is made fresh, but regardless, the food comes out SLOW. I remember times when me and my buddy were the only ones in the restaurant and it still took twenty minutes for the food to come out.
The last thing I'd like to mention is that there is a pretty cool mural of Hollywood painted on the walls. I'm not an art aficionado, but I definitely appreciate art.
Anyways, this spot is a decent spot for decent food at a decent price. Definitely worth a try. -

Roro's shawarma is 1000 times better ! Came in here at around 10pm i guess I should have guessed the shawarma was a disappointment by the fact that at 10am, they still have plenty of shawarma left ! your lucky to get shawarma at roro's pass 6pm lol
the chicken tasted like regular chicken nothing special about it! never again coming here ! -

This place is the best! Amazing food, great prices. Their sauces are sooo good! The Greek salad is always cold and fresh. Their dinner plates are decent sized and they deliver!

I have never been to this restaurant. I order delivery weekly from Al Wazir. The garlic butter sauce is amazing. They don't skimp on the servings. My preference is the #2 which is chicken shawarma plate. They give you a ton of chicken with just as much rice, 2 pitas, hummus, and a salad for under $8. Great healthy food at an affordable price. Definitely recommend.

I can't believe that it's taken me this long to review Al Wazir. I have been a faithful and steady customer for 12 years and seriously do a happy eating dance EVERY SINGLE TIME that I eat there. I have turned my fiance on to them as well and whenever I'm in Hollywood I know that I have to bring home Al Wazir under penalty of anger (just kidding) if I don't.
I used to live walking distance and ate there a few times per week. Now I have moved but make sure that I eat there or pick up food whenever I am in the neighborhood. I don't know what they do to that food, but no place else can hold a candle! -

I love the food, the food is great.
But don't try and order through their website - they don't seem to bother to look at emails or web orders - just call in your order. -

I live in Hollywood and go to Al Wazir Chicken all of the time. I usually get the chicken shawarma plate. It comes with rice, salad, pita bread, and hummus. It's delicious. This place is very affordable. You can get a whole plate and drink for around $10. The staff are very friendly and I never have to wait long. There's also a clean restroom which is a plus. The only downside is that it's not a big place so, if it's busy, you may have no place to sit.

Had the chicken kabob plate, and it was great. The chicken was good, the rice was decent, solid hummus and the little side salad was a home run. The garlic sauce was really good too. This place is a good alternative to Zankou, though their chicken isn't quite as good. I'll definitely be back though. Parking sucks but who cares about that? The food was good.

Food is good. No complaints.
Service sucks. The first time I went there, I had to wait an extra five minutes b/c the staff was too busy to notice that the food was ready to be handed over. The restaurant itself was not busy.. just regular chit chat.
The second time I got delivery. The delivery guy was really nice. But, the staff called me about 6 times prior to delivery leaving the restaurant to find out major intersections close to the delivery address. Considering I provided them the address and the delivery was within a 3 mile radius.. ridiculous. This message is for the owner: PLEASE buy a GPS!!
I would definitely go again b/c the garlic sauce is good and the pricing is excellent. But, hopefully the staff will address the complaints so I can revise this rating. -

I took my family to Al Wazir Chicken on New Year's Eve. Earlier in the day, my four-year-old and I went to the Los Angeles Zoo. My little daughter pointed out that there was a chicken in the cage of the fossa (fossas are lean, jaguar-like wild cats from Madagascar), and indeed, lying on the ground was a whole raw chicken carcass, fed to the fossa by the zoo keepers. After eating at Al Wazir -- or at least trying to eat -- I found myself envying the fossa.
The chicken skewers did not consist of breast meat; they were oddly compressed masses of dark and white meat that had no logical (or biological) connection to each other.
The white rice was utterly insipid. The air in the parking lot had more flavor.
The hummus (which came as a side-dish accompanying the dinner) was an insult to chick peas everywhere. It tasted neither of garlic, nor of tahini. If I had to guess, the hummus was made of fiercely pureed canned chick peas and Crisco.
The stuffed grape leaves were, I believe, exhumed from a bronze age archeology dig.
I did like the side salad and the dressing, and there was nothing wrong with the pita. Hence the second star.
But perhaps the worst thing about Al Wazir was that my order took no fewer than twenty minutes. This is not an exaggeration.
Sitting in Al Wazir, I found myself aching with nostalgia for Marouch of Hollywood, surely not more than half a mile away. -

I can't get over the fact that I have never reviewed this place. I love LOVE Al Wazir. I order from them on the regular and everyone that works there is very friendly. I get the #3 with EXTRA EXTRA read all about the hummus because it's so good. It might be my favorite hummus ever. It's creamy and tasty and rich. The service can be a little slow at times but I don't mind that. I order take out often because they deliver late which is perfect for my late schedule. I am giving them 5 stars because I love the food but the service can be slow so if you are ordering take out call about 15 minutes ahead.

Best mediterranean food place I have ever been to. I really love their chicken (which is sometimes a little dry but typically flavorful), and their schwerma is amazing...mmm...lamb... I also love their hummus, which is flavorful and comes with the meal. Their falafels are good also!
Although this is off of Hollywood Blvd, there is free parking, but I always take out since the place doesn't have the best eating-in atmosphere once you're inside. That being said, don't let their appearances fool you! As a person said previously, their food is good and they have good prices. The guy taking the order has been there since I started coming here (over a year ago) and is super friendly and recognizes me and my husband every time we go! Love this place. -

After completing a few errands, I plotted my course for a Mediterranean restaurant for which I had no name, only an intersection given me by a colleague. He couldn't remember the name, but highly recommended the place, which he said was at Hollywood Blvd.@Gower.
The only eatery at Hollywood and Gower that fits the bill is Al Wazir Chicken. So I ventured in and the first thing I see is their menu which proclaims Al Wazir to be "Low Fat" Mediterranean cuisine. Now I usually equate LOW FAT to NO TASTE, but I was more than pleasantly surprised, and satisfied by the taste of the food.
The flavor and quality of the food isn't what one might expect from a strip-mall. However, once inside there are NO FRILLS, very simple counter top from which you are greeted by a nice-enough fella. There is a very short wait for your meal but worth the venture in. Dine-in seating is very limited, but its' proximity to the Hollywood Blvd. tourism scene makes for an interesting dining experience. In the future, i'll get mine to go.
TO THE FOOD: This being my first go-round at this joint I decided to play it safe...so I went with the chicken breast (item #3). It's marinated boneless and skinless chicken breast. Served with hummus, salad, rice and 2 pcs. of pita bread. The chicken wasn't over-cooked. It was well seasoned, and very moist and tender. The cost was $8.45, bout what you would pay for a similar meal else where in Hollywood.
Check them out. -

Solid Middle Eastern delivery food. You may order online through their website or call. Their website features pictures of each dish, which is really helpful. The food, aside from being delicious, is cheap, comes quickly and is well packaged. I usually order one of the combination plates which come with your choice of meat, rice, a small salad, hummus, and they give ample pita with your order.

Walked here from the Pantages for lunch before a Wicked matinee on Christmas Eve.
I got the lamb kebab sandwich and my mother got the combo plate, which came out to under $20 after tax.
It was SO. GOOD. My sandwich had meaty chunks of lamb that were juicy but easy to bite off and chew, as well as tomatoes and lettuce. It also came with a small container of garlic sauce, which seemed to be made of pure garlic, to my delight.
The combo plate was enough for two separate meals - kafta, beef, and chicken kebabs, rice, and hummus and pita. The hummus was the best I've had anywhere - no funny business, just straight up and simple, which I love.
The young lady behind the counter was very nice and helpful, she made our day. Serve time was good considering what we ordered, perhaps 15-20 minutes.
I know I'll be coming back here for future Pantages shows, or perhaps just for the heck of it. Great food and service! -

We found out about this place through Collaboration Craft Beer Fest. The food was surprisingly good and reasonably priced. The chicken kabob and the falafel are better than Zankou's. Can't wait to try everything on the menu!

Not too much to look at, but a great little place. I got the vegetarian combo with falafel added (it would have been nice if the veggie combo came with falafel, but alas). My order was ready way too fast for my falafel to be made fresh, but when I opened the box, the amount of food that I got for my money made up for it. The falafel were huge and pretty good. The veggie combo itself had big servings of baba ganoush and hummus, tabouleh and salad with pickled beets (my fave), plus two grape leaves. I'll have enough for lunch tomorrow too.
Customer service was somewhat lacking, but if you're just looking for a tasty place with takeout, Al Wazir is great. -
Review from Emily Y.
Wow, I never would have guessed this place would be awesome from the outside, but their shawarma is deee-liii-cioooos. Came before a show at the music box. It is as no frills as it gets (styrofoam plates) buuut the food tastes restaurant quality and it's cheap at about $8-9 a plate.
The shawarma was fantastic - moist, well-seasoned and ample. I was also impressed by how fresh the food tasted at 9pm. The rice tasted like it was freshly cooked ( and has peas/carrots in it) and the hummus was also really fresh tasting. The best part - they served everything with a mound of steaming hot pita bread.
And the garlic sauce was potent enough to repel the entire cast of Twilight at a New York press call.
Zero ambience but they do have delivery and takeout. Still, I think this will be my pre-Pantages, Music Box food option. With the money I save on food, I can get an extra drink. And the good's great so why not? -

This place surprised me. I wasn't sure what to expect from a mom and pop Mediterranean food place... what I got was exceptional food!
The service was great, they had me in and out in a few minutes. I ordered over the phone to make sure I didn't have to deal with the parking situation.
Fresh food, great service! Will definitely come here again! -

3.5 stars-
Everyone who works here is so sweet. Standard middle-eastern/ Lebanese fare at reasonable prices. Good rotisserie chicken, but it's not quite Zankou quality just yet. I'm a fan of their chicken shwarma plate and their Kafta Kabobs. Fresh, filling, and just a little oily for that nice comforting feeling you want in your tummy when you've forgotten to eat anything all day because of a deadline...okay maybe that last one is just for me...Anyway, this place is good, it's a hole-in-the-wall, and it's open late. mmmm mmm . I'm just not that crazy about their hummus or chicken kabobs. -

Great chicken kabobs! It was very tender, the price was reasonable for take-out. I will definitely keep coming back.

I came here for lunch today after spending a long day with the family in Hollywood. I was in the mood for zinco but one of the locals i met today recommened this place. This restraunt is very small, many 5 tables at the most. I have a chicken shawarma sandwitch. It was okey and my sister that the beef shawarma plate which came with rice and hummas. She said it tasted okey as well. It was kinda pricy for what u get. I dont think i would come back just cuz it was nothing special.

The chicken here is really only on par with a lot of the other middle-eastern chicken in the area, but I bump it up to 4 stars for two reasons:
1. It's family owned, and the family members are really nice, personable folks who always make me feel like they're glad to see me.
2. They're open 'til quite late.
Food is good, relatively healthy (if you can control yourself around the garlic sauce) and the price point is right. -

Al Wazir is great if you want authentic Mediterranean food. Great hummus and fresh, warm pita. The chicken skin is perfect and crunchy. I get the half chicken plate and it's never been a bad decision.
We also order from this place at work a lot. It's close by, but more importantly, satiates my tummy and taste buds! -
Review from Toni L.
Not sure how this place has such good reviews because I am totally not feeling it.
Food: We stopped by before watching Broken Social Scene at the Music Box across the street. Their food kept me from passing out during the concert, but I almost passed out from boredom while eating it because it was pretty mediocre. I had a hard time deciding what to get but finally went for the falafel (http://www.yelp.com/bi...). These crunchy wads were really big, but they honestly did not taste like anything and the tahini sauce didn't help much. The salad, pita, and hummus were all bland, even moreso than what the picture suggests.
Service: It seems like they are used to dealing with a large volume of customers. Expect fast service, but not much else.
Atmosphere: You might have to fight for a seat. It seems like there are a lot of regulars who frequent the place. The mural of Hollywood on the wall with all the landmarks (including Al Wazir) made me smile.
Synopsis: I think Mediterranean Cafe in Pasadena has spoiled me. Not even Zankou can satisfy my taste buds now.Listed in: Persian, Middle Eastern,…

I frequent this joint for their half-chicken plate and their chicken breast plate. The chicken is seasoned and cooked to perfection; it's nice, tender and has just enough flavor.
Their combo platters are hearty, probably enough for two meals. It comes with a creamy humus, which I enjoy. Also comes with rice, salad, pickled radishes and peppers. Yum.
It's a small joint. The staff is friendly, but don't go to the place for it's ambiance. Overall, a fantastic place, especially for lunch. -
Review from Jenny Y.
I had to wait a full week before I could ask George where the heck he ordered that night at work, since he went on vaca immediately after...it was pure torture D=
I never eat chicken kabobs, they're always too dry for me but this place...ohmigosh...this place *drools* This is the first place, and only, that has chicken kabobs that WOW me. I highly recommend them. The beef kabob is good but the chicken is where the money's at =d~~
Their falafel were pretty good too. It had a nice crisp crunch on the outside and was soft with giant chunks of garbanzo in the middle =d And with the hummus mixed into the rice, my meal was completed =) I'm so glad Mark convinced me to stay later that night =D 5 STARS =D!!!
So, a week later, I found myself eating here for lunch...-1 star D= Service was horrible, we ordered a drink but they didn't tell us to go get it. I also ordered a baklava and it didn't come with my plate =( And they burnt my pita, I got the arayes...which was okay but a bit dry =T
The prices are stellar though, less than $6 will get you half a roasted chicken with rice. How can you beat those prices in Hollywood? Though, I think I'll stick to enjoying their food when George orders it ... he seems to have better service =) -

I absolutely adore this place! The menu is straight forward and you simply cannot make a bad decision in regard to what you order. The garlic sauce and hummus are out of this world.
Also, the people here are so incredibly friendly. They can't help but put a smile on my face. :) -

Falafel bought a la carte are $0.80/fried garbanzo ball. They're served on a little bed of lettuce with a side of tahini and pita.
For under $2, you can get a pair and eat some falafel goodness that's got the light crispy outside, and the warm, slightly fluffy and moist center.
If you're craving meat, their lamb sandwich is made with giant chunks of lamb meat busting at the pita. I went from starving to painfully full on half of one of those once. The chicken schwarma plate gives you ample spit-roasted chicken on a bed of rice (and peas) with good hummus that leftovers beautifully.
Now if you'll excuse me, I'm going to calculate how much it would cost to make a bed of warm, fluffy falafel...1 Previous Review: Show all »
