Al's Place is a raucous, ramshackle tavern goes by two names -- Al the Wop's is the locals' favored, but politically incorrect, alternative -- and is the centerpiece of a tiny town built solely by Chinese in 1915 in the Sacramento River Delta. A century old with roots in a saloon, gambling and bootlegging days. Today, it caters to bikers, fishermen, elderly locals, wayward tourists and anyone who loves good, honest burgers, thick steaks or pasta with homemade tomato sauce.
Our family would stop by for steaks, salad and fries since the 1960s after drinking at the Foster's Big Horn Bar ("the Horniest Place in Town"). And walk around the small little "ghost" town.
