Neighborhoods: Southwest Portland, DowntownAlways reliable, even if it's never extraordinary. I wish they'd lose the store-bought pitas, but their smoky baba ganouj always makes me moan with happiness. Warm professional servers who have been doing their job well for a long time.

I came here with a group of 9 other people, they handled our group very well. They have a $12 corkage fee and is worth it if you don't feel like buying a full bottle, which is the only way you can get wine at your table.
The food was great, had chicken kebabs with basmati rice.
We were able to catch the belly dancer, who is only there between 8 and 8:30 most nights.

Al Amir is an old stand by for Lebanese food downtown. Some of the more pricer items are well worth it, and I absolutely adore the setting.
Their Ful Mudammas are not to be missed, as are the Warak Enab. The lamb shank there is certainly better than you will get anywhere else, accepting the odd German restaurant here and there.
To top all this off, they are open until 12 on Friday and Saturday. That's right Portlanders, this is one of the few places that you can go and eat when everything else downtown is closed. They even have a fun bar to eat at, cause if it's that late, you need a few more drinks.

I had my Valentine's Day dinner here with my girlfriends. I had the Lebanese feast with Lamb as my choice of meat and Ice tea. The food was really good. The place is dark and cozy. The server was very nice, she even split our tab among 4 people. Cost of dinner, drink and tip was $25 and it's worth it!

Super food. Al Amir has been one of our favorites for years. Good quantity and good service.

There is some very good food in Portland, I've always enjoyed myself in your fine city... Only two places have ever made me want to repeat visits though-- from the experience of walking to Al-Amir in a light rain, as the streets glistened and the stoplights streaked across my vision, my dinner at Al-Amir was excellent and I'll be sure to visit Al-Amir on every visit I make to Portland in the future.
Fantastic samosas, btw.

The belly dancing is crazy on Fri/Sat nights. The food is good, but the Lebaritas are better.... Apparently a Lebenese margerita. I have no idea whats in it, but its grand.
It is a good restaurant, but it definetly becomes a bar scene after 9 ish.
Expect a tank top clad over 30 crowd for the most part. Its real funny to watch everyone climb up on the bar to dance. Its mid east coyote ugly and its hilarious.

As a restaraunt, nothing too fancy. I actually think their layout could be better... but holy crap... the food is the bomb. Order the Maza Al-Amir which lets you try an entre with sides of hummus, baba ghannooj, grape leaves, tabooli salad, and falafel... ample supply. Great stuff.
Take out is generous... will feed you for days.
Late night at Al-Amir is a totally different experience. While the dinner scene is quite, and appropriate for business dinners... the weekend/night atmosphere amps up the vibe quite a bit. I would say, start your night here, as the drinks flow stiff. And if the crowd gets rowdy, stick around. One thing that is nice is that it is a pretty ethnically diverse crowd... more than I can say for a lot of places in Portland.
Disappointing. Overrated. This Zagat-approved "fine dining" Lebanese restaurant served perfectly acceptable food, but none even approaching the deliciousness of Nicholas or Riyadh. And did I mention that those places are about 1/3 the price?
The atmosphere here is swanky, "exotic," but not too exotic. It's kinda like National Geographic theme park Lebanese with a fancy (and spendy) wine list, store-bought pita bread, and merely decent food. Not worth the price.
