The rolls are good. The mango shrimp roll goooood. The spicy combo rolls good okay. Its our go to take out sushi place. ITs not the BEST, but its good for our neighborhood. The miso soup is good!!

I discovered AKITA right before the storm in august. Wonderful food and good serivce. Also like that there is the A from the department of health. My favorite is the Hibacchi Chicken really a wonderful meal.

One of my favorite sushi places on the Upper East! Very reasonably priced and very delicious.
They don't look busy ever because they do most of their volume in take-out and delivery, which is usually the way I go since I don't like being the only person sitting there.
Give it a try, stick to the basics, its great! -

I wish I read some yelp reviews before I ordered from them. Where do they get off calling it Pad Thai? No peanuts, no sprouts. If they called it "chicken and noodles," I might be more forgiving, but no, even on that level this is pretty much a fail. Oily noodles and dry chicken.
The spicy salmon roll smelled fishy and wasn't spicy at all. I suspect they used old ginger and wasabi, too, as they had zero flavor. Guh, smelly fish. I just hope I don't get sick. -

Got a Groupon over here for 4 sushi rolls and 4 sashimi and 4 bottles of beer
We got the spicy salmon roll, eel avocado roll, spicy Mexican roll, and tuna roll
The fish is not very fresh, the rice not cooked very well. all the spicy rolls taste the same.
Service is decent, place is ok.
dont think I will be back again -

Why do sushi places feel the need to be fusion? Japanese is so trendy in NYC that you don't need to add a random Pad Thai on your menu.
I'd come here again even though the whole spiel wasn't spectacular. They give you a lot of rice on your rolls and the Mexican is the best I've ever had (we kept thinking, "THAT'S how it's supposed to taste like all these years?!"). -

We live up the block from this place, and usually order in. The California rolls are always delicious and fresh. Not much to say about this place, we only order when we are in the mood for sushi. They have an online ordering service which is great.

Hmm didn't like it at all.
The sashimi was really fishy and didn't feel fresh. The food portions were small. Will not be returning. Ever. -

If you eat only the cooked fish and you're into gooey rolls (which, hey, more power to you), Akita might be fine for you. I had nigiri and not only was the fish delivered warm, but it was mushy and immediately made me ill.
And I know from sushi ill--this isn't the full-on food poisoning so much as the within-one-hour gastic freakout. Except that it lasted three days.
AVOID. -

came for a groupon. not good. sushi is not fresh, probably because they don't have enough customers so the fish hangs out for too long prior to consumption. would not pay that much for such quality. presentation is good. haven't checked out all sushi in manhattan so will not come back
btw, they didn't give us what we ordered, but we hadn't realized it time.
also, you can't expect real japanese food from chinese people. -

My favorite sushi on the UES!
Granted, I have only ordered delivery and have yet to venture into the restaurant. But I order a LOT of sushi - and after trying dozens of the different options we have in this neighborhood, Akita is the one I keep going back to. The rolls just have a succulence and freshness to them that seems to be lacking in so many of their competitors. Even the sides are top notch (big ups to their ginger salad dressing!)
Finally, prices are very reasonable - can't beat the 3 roll special for 10.95! -
Review from Rach K.
Yum!
I like this place. They have some good deals with their combination platters (which is 3 different rolls for the price of 2, around $15). The salad comes with the standard ginger dressing, which I love. Getting sushi in the city can get expensive; this place is pretty reasonable.
My party got some warmed sake to go with our sushi as well. Yum.
The restaurant itself is decently sized so it's likely you'll get a seat, unless it's some crazy busy night or something. -

Ordered takeout tonight from Akita. I can't stay away from the sushi. The shrimp tempura and yellowtail maki rolls were both great, but the salmon roll just didn't scream FRESH to me. I don't know. I probably won't order from here again, but the delivery was really quick - so maybe try some of the cooked options?
Ehhh, whatever. There are way better fish in the Upper East Side sushi sea.Listed in: Sushi Sushi Sushi

I've had delivery from Akita a couple of times and dined in once.
My friends and I always get maki roll combination C (Spicy Tuna Crunch, Salmon & Yellowtail Combo) as it is a very good deal (great bang for your buck). The rolls have a good sushi to rice ratio. The food here is definitely above par and I would recommend this sushi place out of the others in the area for good value.
Service was courteous and quick when I dined in, but then our party of 4 were the only diners at the time. Also, they have cool Simulinen napkins haha. -

I love sushi and I was totally impressed here. The rolls are creative and the sashimi is the perfect size. I am a big big fan and i wanted to tell everyone about this gem!

Two Good Words: They Deliver!
Two Bad Words: Ingredient Mash-up.
Honestly, this place is close to my heart, because when I had the flu last year, I ordered miso soup and sushi, and in rain and snow, these guys delievered decent sushi for a good price, sometimes the ingredients tend to separate in the sushi (I can't even describe how it happens) instead of the flavors marrying with each other in their mouth. But four stars for asking if i was feeling better. Orders also come with really good fruit too! -

I've ordered delivery from here several times. The sushi is average, and before yesterday I would have given them 3 stars. However, last night I ordered delivery and the delivery man was absolutely ridiculous. He gave me major attitude and was disrespectful because he apparently was not happy with his tip. The bill was $11.45 and I gave him $13 which is roughly 13%.... That's more than acceptable in my humble opinion.
I won't be ordering from there again. -

Walking into the empty restaurant you would think you could get at least a decent service...think twice!! Waitress threw menus on the table and returned after 50 seconds rushing us to order our drinks... when we told her we weren't ready yet she gave us huge attitude and walked away.
After couple of minutes we ordered seafood dynamite and some rolls like eel avocado, spicy scallop, mexican roll etc. as she walked away my boyfriend thanked her... what he got in return was a look like he was from a different planet...
Our appetizer took 15-20 minutes to be prepared so we were expecting a really good dish...once again think twice!!! mushroom which was the base of the appetizer was tasteless, on top of it scallop with huge amount of mayo on it...horrible!!! One piece was enough for us to send it back...(anyway we ended up paying for it :/ )
Sushi was really nice and tasty, that's the only one reason why i am giving this place two stars.
The nicest person in this place was the sushi chef, who was actually the one who led us to the table...
After all this i can say just one thing...never again!!!! -

This establishment can NOT be trusted. They pledged $100 worth of sushi to the local public school auction but reneged on their pledge.
Auction winner attempted to redeem prize well within the 1 year time frame. Akita manager signed auction donation form for $100, but refused to honor it. -

Recently ordered takeout from Akita using http://seamlessweb.com. I had one of the lunch sushi roll specials which came with miso soup. The rolls (spicy tuna & eel avocado) were both fresh and tasty. I would definitely order again, and would venture to the restaurant if I were in the neighborhood.

Tried them out for delivery and am quite pleased. The dinner bento box combination was a great deal -- if you're not famished, it's easily two meal's worth of food. The salmon teriyaki was tasty, and I like that there were some carrots, broccoli, asparagus slices, and even a slice of corn on the cob in there. The shumai were plump, the california roll was fresh, and the miso soup and tempura were good too. They had a 20% discount on seamlessweb, so the deal was even better. Will certainly order from them again in the future.

Great ambiance, quick delivery and good sushi!
I always get the sushi here so I can't speak to anything else. But the fish is always fresh and has a great color to it, think bright red tuna(maguro) and bright orange salmon(shake). I mostly order for delivery and the quality while the quality does differ sometimes, 9/10 times it does not disappoint in the least. This is my go to sushi place on the UES.
Maki Roll combo and Sushi regular are what's good, not to mention their goyza! -
Review from Pamela s.
came here w my friend with our trusty groupon, which gave us a 50 dollar dinner for 25 bucks plus tip. two beers, two rolls and sushi each. the food was good but nothing to die for and the service was decent. not too slow but not something to brag about either.

I feel a little bad about only giving this place 2 stars because other people seem to like it. But I ordered delivery and it wasn't so good.
I ordered the Titanic Maki Roll, Spicy Tuna Crunch, Salmon & Yellowtail Combo and the Eel Avocado Roll. It was mushy and the fish did not taste fresh. I couldn't finish it. I was afraid it would make me sick (it did not).
The delivery was fast though. Maybe it was just a bad night, but with so many good choice for sushi on the UES, I don't think I will try it again. -

Just ordered lunch from Akita for the first time - and I never will again.
Does anyone know the meaning of good sushi anymore?
First off, it smells fishy - bad-bad-bad...
And despite the smell, I tried it. It has no taste. The rice has an awful texture too.
Next time I'm going to try 'Yummy Sushi' that's right across the street... -

Well priced beer, and good sushi and sashimi, but beware if you want to use a groupon, they have a separate menu for groupon diners, Groupon was refused the first time because we didn't show it up front, so we paid for that meal. We returned and put the groupon on the table. They claimed to not have seen it, so we're stuck again. They advised us to come back a third time and ultimately offered to give us the $25 face value of the groupon toward our meal. We're done with Akita, sorry.

Their lunch specials are extensive and after I got my food and brought it around to eat with some of the UES locals, all of them exclaimed over how great Akita's sushi was. So it's a local favorite, and they deliver, so it's all good. I got a lunch special for $8.60 that includes a huge miso soup, a filing and fresh green salad, and two rolls of my choice. I got the white tuna jalapeno and the salmon avocado roll. The salmon avocado roll was reallllly good. The white tuna jalapeno was innovative. I enjoyed my lunch very much and it was totally satisfying, to the point where I thought about going back again before the lunch special ended (at 3PM) to get some more sushi and save it for dinner :)

Got a Groupon for a meal here, and LOVED it! A bit out of our way, but it was wonderful. Although a bit pricier than the sushi place around the corner from us, we will be coming back to eat with friends.

good sized portions of fresh sushi. I'm not a fan or the entrees, so stick to the sushi plates and you won't be unhappy. Nice ambiance - clean and spacious

Love love love this place! When ordering sushi i prefer to dine in, the atmosphere is nice and calm and usually pretty empty, which i can never figure out why. When ordering take-out or delivery they use seamless web which is super convenient. I have yet to try something i dont like there and the service is fast and courteous.

This place is just OK - nothing wow about it. Came here for dinner using a Groupon last night. Even though it was 100 degrees out, they didn't have the AC on...or if they did have it on it was very weak. This place is just your typical local no-frills sushi spot. It's a good go to spot if you live in the area but it's not worth making a trip out to eat here. Service was also just ok. I asked my waitress for water a few times but she forgot to bring it.

Ordered delivery tonight from Akita. They told us 35 minutes and it ended up being closer to 50. What is worse is everyone who ate the sushi got sick later that night. Would never order from there again.

Finally I've found a sushi joint (not mexican/chinese/sushi) that delivers fresh, good (for what it is) food to East Harlem! I've ordered multiple times and the rolls have always been good - not spectacular, but hey - it's delivery and when you have a sushi craving but don't want to leave your house, you do the best with what you have and Akita is my solution.

I'm keeping my same review, but I just wanted to add that if you are particularly opposed to certain ingredients... like if you are a 'no wasabi' type of person, or 'no fish eggs please', or 'no mayo', etc., make sure you say that on everything you order, even if you are certain whatever you ordered doesn't have those things. I'm just saying that because I order from Akita all the time, and sometimes I'll get something gross - like mystery mayo - on something that never had it before... um, like a sweet potato roll. What's up with that? Or, magically fish eggs will appear on my side salad. Strange? Anyway, thought I would help you out with that :).

Got delivery from here and guy refused to leave until I tipped him. I had already put the tip on the credit card but the guy refused to give me the food until I paid him an extra five dollars. Unbelievably unprofessional and awkward.
