Akia is a charming Tokyo-style boutique located right in Little Italy. The clothes are carefully chosen, well kept, and ever changing. If you like vintage western shirts, plaids and polos, you're sure to become a frequent shopper. There's also a rack full of adorable vintage dresses. You might not notice the dressing rooms since they are behind the counter, so make sure to ask if you need one. Finally, I'd like to add that this place has a certain intangible quality that makes it pleasant to be in. It might be the lighting or the friendly service.

I just featured Akia on my SD-based male fashion blog: http://www.SuckMySavvy...

    So......

I've been on this weekend thing where I wear my cycling pants and a short sleeve cowboy shirt ALL weekend, much to the chagrin of Ian C. and Eric G.!  ANYWAYS, I was looking at some cowboy shirts and Urban Outfitters and I realized that I was about to pay 50 bucks for a replica cowboy shirt!!!  WTF!!!  So I remembered passing this place on one of my bike rides and remember seeing this HUGE DOG and some vintage thrifty clothes.  They had about 50 cowboy shirts and I was able to narrow it down to just getting 3.

The staff was nice and the place was clean.  They have incredible hours and stayed open later so that I could finally decide.  They have some pretty good "unique" pieces and I would say that they are more of a vintage clothing place than say, Buffalo Exchange.  Go here if you have to go to a party and need to get your "peacock" on.

My only gripe is that while they did carry authentic vintage clothes, they are a little more expensive than a REAL thrift store.  I guess you should have to pay for them taking the time to go out and sift through the crap out there....and they are a CUTE little shop.  Cute, cute, cute, cute....

    i LOVE akia.

it's one of little italy's and san diego's, for that matter, hidden vintage gems. the owner is super nice, he lets me see things before they even go on the floor. the store is super clean and well laid out. always good tunes playing.

in my opinion, the creme de la creme selection of unusual vintage t-shirts. we're talking seriously cool ones, super soft with old beer logos and other odd stuff on them. also a large selection of vintage western shirts post-1960's. the store has more for men, but ladies- they have gems for you too. fabulous vintage 70's sun dresses and cotton mexican embroidered dresses in really unusual colors. sexy sexy.

akia gets 2 thumbs up in my book, folks.

Meh, this is a hard one for me. I didn't enjoy the selection of clothing, but everything was so cutely laid out and the guy working there was super sweet. I was hoping for endless racks of awesome, reasonably-priced vintage clothing, but 85% of the clothes were men's western shirts priced at like $40... which seems pretty steep to me. There was one rack of some cute dresses, but they were all like at least $45-55 and that's just more than I'm willing to pay. Their dressing room (much like the rest of the store) is adorable. I'm going to give three stars just because the guy working seemed really sweet and because their array of western shirts was pretty impressive.
