At first, the location and outer appearance put that "hole in the wall joint" image in my head. Once I stepped in, I found it was not a huge joint as expected but the ambiance was hip and laid back. All the staffs are fun and approachable. The service and food was great.
My husband and I ordered a Salmon Skin Hand Roll, House Special, Lobster Roll, and Soft Shell Crab. I know, we eat a ton for two people but I can justify why, I'm eating for two. LoL =)
Getting down to the food and most importantly prices...The prices are equal to other joints that offer fusion rolls like dynamite, lobster, spider, etc.
The Salmon Skin Hand Roll was only $3.75. That's about $1 cheaper than a lot of other joints that dish out some good Hand Rolls. It was falling apart a little but was definitely some good stuff. Also, it had plenty of Salmon Skin in it; always a big plus. The House Special had assorted fish inside and albacore outside. This was my kind of sushi. M y husband didn't enjoy it too much since he's not that into raw fish. Lobster Roll was awesome. My husband absolutely favored this roll. I had to restrain him to save couple of pieces for me. I'm not much of a Soft Shell Crab person so this was all his. He said it was good and that he'll order it again the next time we visit.
We finished off the meal with a tempura ice cream. I think this was the only thing that was a little disappointing. It's $5 but the portion is tiny. Usually for $5, other joints give you a ball of ice cream the size of your face. Here, it's probably the size of your fist. You practically pay for the orange décor than anything else. The tempura batter is light so you don't feel like you ate a ball of grease but still...I wanted more ice cream! =(
Over all, I think I found a sushi joint in my neighborhood that does a decent job in sushi and I'm definitely coming back.

1 out of 10 for service. The worst service. Waited over an hour for the food while everyone who came after got theirs. And, when they did bring the food, it was a wrong order because the waitress read the order to the chef wrong.

I'm literally writing this as the foursome who came 50 minutes after us are done with their food and are waiting for the check. And we still haven't even gotten our Salmon Skin Salad.  It's a salad, you don't even need to cook it, what's taking so long? Are you trying to catch the salmon from the pacific ocean?

When the food FINALLY came, I would rate it 3 out of 10. It's Ok sushi, so-so fresh. Teriyaki is too saucy to hide the overcooked beef.

We should have just picked up and left.  We will NEVER be back.

Until today, I had ranked this place as #1 sushi place in SCV.

This was my 4th or 5th time here, and the sushi had always been fresh and consistent. I'm sad to report that that is not the story today.

The roll in question was the 911. My friend and I have had this roll here and at other places, plenty of times. This time, the tuna was not fresh. It sent my friend to the restroom to get rid of the taste. We brought it to our server's attention and he spoke with the sushi chef. He came back and said, "It's because the spicy tuna isn't as spicy today." Huh? Meaning...? That's why we can taste how unfresh it is? It's the spices that's been disguising it? God, what have we been eating??

We asked him to take the remaining 2/3 away and proceed to finish the rest of our rolls. When he checked back with us later, I asked if the chef had tasted the roll we returned. He said, "Yes, he says it's because it's not as spicy as it normally is." Great, still denial.

When the bill came, we were charged for the 911 roll. The nerve. "You charged us for that roll?" He begrudgingly took it off the bill.

You know, unfresh fish. It happens, but don't make your return customers feel like it's their fault and make excuses. They should have quietly taken the plate away, remove it from the bill, we would have noted it as an off day, and that's it! Hey, you would still have return customers!

But they way they handled it was cowardly and unacceptable. Bye bye, Akasaka.

Great service. Came here after a long hike and the chefs, Song and Sam, were amazing. made us some off the menu susbi that hit the spot. I would recommend this to anyone wanting some great sushi. Price is reasonable for an AYCE sushi spot. Go and enjoy!

I have been to Akasaka Sushi & Grill twice.

The first time was on a double date with friends who had raved about the sushi here.

We were seated at the bar per our friends request (because according to them it is the best seat in the house).

I believe it was Sammy who served us and while he was a hoot, the dirty jokes and the time it took to prepare our food got a little annoying after a while, as you will see why in the second time I went here).

During the preparation of the food, if there are any loud, obnoxious people at the bar, Sammy will sit and shoot the shit with them while trying to prepare your food as well.  I'm all for a good time, but if I'm shelling out bucks for sushi I want it when I want it and that's in a timely manner. My husband will only eat California rolls (I know what a weirdo) but even his took 15 minutes to prepare after requested.

I do have to say when I am in the mood for a rambunctious bar I will visit here because it is fun and the chefs are awesome.  The food is some of the best sushi I've had in the Santa Clarita Valley.

I remember one roll distinctly because I absolutely effin' loved it.  The Chili Man roll is by far the most spicy sushi roll I have ever had.  There are tempura fried jalapenos in the middle, spicy tuna, and some other type of concoction that literally blew up like a volcano in my tummy.  But this was after being able to enjoy the actual taste of the fish in the roll.  Only 2 minutes after did my insides heat up.

The second time I went was during a Saturday afternoon with a girlfriend of mine, and as usual I was craving sushi (and partly because I wanted the Chili Man roll again).

My friend and I only had roughly an hour and a half before we had to be to an appointment but figured that would be plenty of time to get fed and roll out since there were only a few people at the bar.

Remember how I mentioned that if you're seated at the bar you will receive your food in a timely (somewhatish) manner.

If you are seated at a table, apparently it's like being Jack and Rose out in the ocean on that damn door and everyone has forgotten about you including those lifeboat douches.

It took us 30 minutes to receive our rolls, yet everyone at the bar would order a roll after we had placed our order and got it way before us.

Also the inside of the place was stunk up with this awful smoky smell and it just gave me a headache.  I understand cooking on those grills will cause smoke but this was ridiculous.

Needless to say we did enjoy our food, we just didn't like being ignored out in the ocean....

I would go back again if I didn't want to travel for sushi but this is not one of my favorite sushi joints.

This is our go-to spot for sushi in Santa Clartia.  As stated in other reviews, the fish-to-rice ratio is very generous.  Sammy and Song will remember you after the first visit and always create a friendly atmosphere with the bar customers.  On some visits, Sammy will break out an off the menu item just for fun...gratis!   One time he made us a snapper-sashimi with lemon and chili oil that was simply amazing.   In our most recent visit, Sammy was very attentive, suggesting we order other items when he felt the prep time for our roll order would take awhile.
Sushi bar dining is an event and is not for people in a hurry so keep that in mind.  If you're looking for a good time and a reasonable tab, check Akasaka out.

Normally I wouldn't associate the Santa Clarita Valley as the best place to get anything... unless you're hunting bros or cougars... but Akasaka is seriously one of the best sushi spots I've ever been to.

Uber fresh, generous cuts of delicious raw fish assembled with great care into some of the best tasting maki I've ever tried.

The staff nothing less than excellent. They're extremely friendly and super helpful.

I would offer up suggestions on what to try, but I haven't had anything I didn't like.

Seriously, after this place I don't feel right having sushi anywhere else.  Sam and Song have spoiled me rotten and hook it up.

Let me start by saying that this place isn't cheap.  The prices are just right for what you're getting: fresh salmon, soft spicy tuna, hot tempura, crisp edimame.  Everything works.

My favorite menu items are the Yummy Crispy (tuna and tomato in a mayo-ponzu dressing, with avocado and eel sauce, served on zucchini tempura), and the mussels.  I also have my own roll on the wall: Popcorn Lobster roll, with tempura baby lobster on top of a spicy California roll.

When you go, you have to sit at the bar.  It's an absolute must.  Sam and Song treat you like sushi-eating royalty, and all regulars sit at the bar.  They will drink with you and tell you perverted jokes, and Song especially is a hoot and a half.

Their All You Can Eat is also bomb; at just $25/person for dinner, they don't have a timer running during your dinner and they're not investigating whether or not you finish your rice, like Kyoto or Midori may be doing for example.  They just want to take care of their customer and keep bringing 'em back for more.

If you want a roll, the Albacore is amazing, and so is the 911 Roll, with spicy tuna on the inside and avocado on top.

As for the sake.. Try the Pineapple Sake.  Made in-house, it is soooo dangerous.  It's cold, it's smooth, and goes down like water.  If you drink the entire bottle and still feel like a badass, try eating a chunk of the sake-soaked pineapple.  You'll be tipsy in no time!

This will quickly become the place that remembers your order, remembers your drink preference, and calls you by name.

Lately I've been hearing great things about Akasaka so yesterday I decided to give it a whirl. First impressions were really good. Nice setup, inviting atmosphere, nice waitress and sushi chef.

Started out the AYCE with an order of Albacore nigiri. The albacore was a little too thick cut for my taste and a little bit on the chewy side. The sauce on top was too vinegary for my taste. Proceeded to the house special roll. The roll was crab inside with albacore and hot sauce outside. This sauce worked a lot better with the albacore and the cut was a little less thick. I really enjoyed this roll. Next up was a spicy scallop cut roll, yellowtail nigiri, crunch roll(tempura shrimp roll), and tuna nigiri. Everything was just average for me, nothing mind blowing like I had heard from some of my friends.

$23 for lunch was a little steep for me. I would however, come here instead of Hibiki for my AYCE sushi fix.

    Ono best tasting fish.

Sam is Mexican but he knows what's up.

Seriously so fucking good! Way better than Midori and so glad I found this spot is so much closer and less packed.

Fish is sliced fresh. Everything prepared to order.

Sammual , wait staff, the cute korean girl and the owner all super nice.

Beer isnt that cold however. Good hot sake. Dirty glasses :( but seriously it's so worth 5 stars.

    BOMB!

Ask for the chili man roll and tell them to make it hot.  "But isn't it hot already" you say?  Well last time I went we ordered the Man roll and honestly, it was not that hot at all.  People at our table were hurting, but my girlfriend is Mexican, and she has trained my tongue well lol.  The prior visit we ordered the Man roll and were talking smack to Sam and Song about "oh it won't be hot".  Well they slipped in some nuclear fuel into the center of that roll and after one piece I was hurting for twenty minutes or so.  But I cooled off with some cold pineapple sake.  My mouth is watering just thinking about it lol.  A close second would be Love Sushi over on Lyons.

If you want average everything, this is the place.  Average-looking sushi bar, average-tasting sushi, average-looking patrons, average-prices, average-reveiwers....wait, what?

Even the strip-mall it's located in is average.  It's sandwiched between a Supercuts and a tanning salon. Hopefully they don't fry their fish next door, when ordering the Hamachi collar.

My one visit there was mired in mediocrity, for the above mentioned reasons.  That is until the sole hispanic sushi chef was fliting with my girlfriend.  He asked if we were brother and sister. "Uh, no, sir. But, hey, how's my Unagi handroll coming along?"

Yeah, it's nice to have a chef with personality.  But I didn't know that included making moves on your girl. I'm sure it was all in fun, and I never felt threatened, of course. I just found it odd.

My ex-girl and i ordered the all-you-can eat. As you all know, with the all-you-can eat, the menu is limited.  Their all-you-can-eat menu, at the time, was alright. (For those who don't like Hibiki, you have to admit that they have the widest selection for all-you-can-eat in the SCV).  Anyway, our comedian sushi chef kept giving us special rolls that weren't on the "all-you-can-eat" menu.  Maybe he just wanted us to come back?  I dunno.

All-in-all, this place was alright. I'm not sure if I'll be going back again, given the better alternatives close to me and on Ventura Blvd., If I do visit again, I'm going to have to bring a sexy girl with me again just to get all the low-down goodies. But...

Like a cake without frosting, this place is just plain without the perks.

This place has changed hands a bunch, management now is great, service improved since we started coming here and even by non-SCV standards the fish is SUPER. They have awesome specials all the time, we always sit at the bar and Song hooks us up with whatever yummy stuff they have like live uni and fantastic yellowtail belly (amazing chefs choice at a local-yokel joint in a canyon country stater brothers shopping center, wonders never cease!)

Some gems we had here were striped bass, live clam over ice (lip-smacking goodness) and the egg bowl, a rice bowl covered in caviar of every size and color, plus a quail egg yum. They make their own delicious pineapple sake (!) and the chefs love doing sake bombs with you. The motto here is ask and you shall receive.

When I first noticed Akasaka during a shopping trip to Stater Brothers, I was excited and thrilled to find an all-you-can-eat sushi place on the Canyon Country side of the SCV.  However, my excitement wouldn't last long...

During my first visit to Akasaka, my husband and I tried the all-you-can-eat sushi dinner.  There was an assortment of rolls and nigiri sushis to select from.  Appetizers such as mussels, miso soup, and tempura were also available.

The one "unique" thing about Akasaka's sushi is that they slice the sashimi as you order it.  Many other establishments that offer all-you-can-eat sushi have pre-sliced sashimi.  The slicing of the sashimi may be unique for Akasaka, but it is also their demise.  The slices were often uneven and misshaped.  Usually sashimi should be in a uniform, rectangular shape.  Some of the sashimi were of square shape and one side of the sashimi pieces were significantly thicker than the other.  I thought to myself before I took my first bite, "Okay, it may not be visually appealing, but maybe it'll taste delicious".  My optimism soon diminished.

The rice was what I will call "mal-dente".  I know pasta is supposed to be cooked al-dente (soft on the outside and slightly firm in the middle), however, I call this rice "mal-dente because it was completely horrible.  The rice was mushy on the outside and raw and hard in the middle.  Even the best piece of toro with this rice would still be inedible.  I felt like this huge ball of undercooked, gummy rice was growing inside my mouth with every chew.  I shuddered to think how I managed to get through dinner eating that rice.  To me, if you cannot perform a simple task of making rice correctly, then it's game over.

Leaving the restaurant less than satisfied and I feeling like I had wasted $25, I vowed never to come back to Akasaka again.

Several months passed since my first encounter with Akasaka.  My husband, the optimist, convinced me to give Akasaka another chance.  Okay, perhaps it was a bad batch of rice during our first visit.  So I gave Akasaka an opportunity to redeem themselves.  As the saying goes "Fool me once shame on you.  Fool me twice, shame on me."  Yes, I was the fool and shame on me for having faith.

Yes, the same undercooked mush they consider rice was still there.  It must be their specialty.  I was also disappointed to see there was now a limit of one order (or two pieces) of hamachi (yellowtail) per customer.  How sad!  I love hamachi and I was let down because I couldn't have my fill of hamachi during my all-you-can-eat meal.

I also ordered their mixed sashimi salad.  I was yet again disappointed.  The salad dressing tasted like pure lemon juice.  It was super sour and made the salad almost unbearable.  I attempted to fix the salad by pouring soy sauce in it, however, it became a sour, salty concoction.

The next time I crave all-you-can-eat sushi, Akasaka will NOT be an option.  Think about it...  spend a couple of dollars on gas to drive across town for better all-you-can-eat sushi, or spend $25 on raw rice and square uneven sushi?

I cased this place like I was going to rob a bank, drove past it many times.  I finally heard from an actual friend who had gone to Akasaka many times and now, I finally appeared there.

They did good for a first visit.  I will update this after my next visits.  The sushi chef (Sam) got right down to business.  The sushi slices were bigger then any other AYCE's that I've been to, it all tasted good and they cranked it out quick (important for AYCE).  It was lively with music and they seemed to keep the crowd happy.  I will certainly be heading back to devour more sushi there.

The only limitations that I noticed are that they don't offer Uni or Sweet Shrimp with the AYCE and you can only order 1 Unagi and 1 Salmon Egg, per person, per visit.

Definitely worth a try if you are looking for a new AYCE home.

Where do I start....... First off the Sushi and Sashimi is very fresh. Giving the cut rolls, hand rolls and Sashimi pieces a wonderful flavor. The price is actually good for the all you can eat, and the menu is filled with a lot of good Japanese favorites like Udon, Tempura and the different types of teriyaki foods.

The servers are very hospitable making the atmosphere very relaxed and easy to enjoy yourself.

I would recommend anyone who likes sushi in SCV to come here.

Delicious food.  Been here several times. Always a friendly crowd.  A bit disappointed in service tonight...only one server.....which resulted in poor timing of food brought to table,  brought rice bowl, which sat around and had to ask for the dish that was ordered with it,by that time rice cold.  Ordered soba noodles.....she must have forgotten it because when it came everyone else at table had finished their meal.

Tried to order the all you can eat sushi with my wife ($25 per person) and asked how much extra it would be for my one year old son to eat as well, was told that there is no option for him. Asked if he could share some of my food, was told no. We left and went to another all Sushi restraunt over on Whites and Soledad. There he was allowed to eat.

We do bring our kids but there isn't a kids menu.  The wait staff and chefs love kids.

I would choose this sushi place over any sushi place in the San Fernando Valley definitely.

My Fiance and I had just recently moved to Newhall and I had been eyeballing this place for the past few weeks (it's just down the street from our place). So, when I landed my new job, we decided to celebrate and take a trip down to experience a new sushi joint.

The moment we walked in we were loudly greeted by the sushi chef behind the bar and the waitress standing attentively by the cashier stand. We promptly sat at the bar starving for some raw fish! The sushi chef was very inviting and asked us if we had been there before and where we were from and if we were engaged.....all around a very pleasant conversation. He also proceeded to ask us what kind of sushi we liked and asked if he may make us a special roll that was not on the menu but still included in our "all-you-can-eat" deal. We agreed and he mad a sumptuous roll that was absolutely delicious!

Everything we consumed that night was delightful, prompt, fresh and enjoyable. All around it was a very nice experience. I will definitely be going back.

Was very surprised with how great the quality of fish was. I had the albacore & cajun tuna and both were absolutely delicious and prepared perfectly. Only reason why I didn't give it 5 stars was that they didn't take AMEX :( . .  Tryin to get those points y'all

After having tried nearly every sushi place in Santa Clarita, this is by far the best one.  Not only is the fish always fresh and tasty, but the people working there have wonderful personalities, and make sitting at the sushi bar a fun experience.  Song and Sam are fantastic chefs, and will really hook you up if you order their all you can eat.    They have easily twice the selection of any other sushi place in town for AYCE, and the chefs are not too picky about the limitations on the menu.  If you order AYCE and what you want isn't on the list, they won't make an issue of it.  I MISS YOU SONG!!

The only reason I am even giving them two stars is because the people working there are very nice. I was sorely disappointed with the food. I decided to try their baked scallop volcano roll..the scallops were so over cooked I ended up throwing both rolls away. I also tried a spicy tuna roll and found the fish didn't taste fresh. Considering how expensive they are, the slow service and quality of food I will not be returning.

Best sushi in Santa Clarita! The pieces are generous, fresh, and very tasty. Go for an all you can eat hour, cozy up at the sushi bar, and get entertained by some very awesome sushi chefs, Song and Sam. They are awesome and you will agree too, especially after giving them a drink! Make sure to order up some mussels, I think the best ones in town also. Sushi not your thing? Try the chicken terriyaki, its mouth watering. Their pineapple sake, which you can only get there, is really smooth and tasty.

Just order the all you can eat. Normally all you can eat sushi is disgusting and poor quality. But this place serves good quality sushi. Better than non all you can eats. Definitely a place to check out if you're nearby. 25 bux dinner and 23 for lunch.

Great AYCE sushi. Love the salmon skin and eel hand rolls. Nigiri sushi comes with huge fish slices, small rice, then an extra little "sashimi" teaser. Sam "from Japan"is a great chef, very friendly. I will come back here agains soon. Next time, though, I will not order the soda as it comes in a can for $2.00, and the tempura basket is mostly yams, only one shrimp. The dynamite is a big dish, tasty, but will fill you up so it may lessen your sushi objective. Next time I will try the yellowtail and scallop nigiri. Staff are friendly and clears used dishes ASAP. Go n, try it, its the best sushi in the SCV.

My friend rants and raves about this place, so one day we finally went. I gotta say the sushi was great!!! The chefs were awesome and funny, but there was one little problem: The chefs kept giving me different things to try (which was fine) except for the fact that they were charging us for those things!!! Next time I go I will either not accept what they have, or make damn sure they don't charge. I thought that was a little shady.

I've eaten a ton of sushi in So Cal.  From Downtown to the West Side to Ventura Blvd and up here.  IMO, the sushi here is just as good as some of the West Side  and Ventura Blvd. places I've eaten.  Is it Kat-Su-Ya?  No, but it's good.  Sam is great, the wait staff is attentive, I always enjoy what I get.  My wife enjoys it.  And my kids love Sam.  It's a fun atmosphere and the sushi is decent.  I know it's fresh because I usually go in early and see Sam and the other chefs cutting the whole fish to prepare it for the evening service so that's not an issue with me.  I like the "Thick Cut" wedges of Ahi that I get when I order it.  I enjoy some of the unique creations that the chefs there make...  Thin sliced jalapeno on yellowtail?  I know...  It was amazing.  So for me.  It's a great little local sushi place where the atmosphere is  fun and the food is above average enough for me to take my family of 4 there regularly for a great time and some good sushi.

Very average! The only thing going for them is the All You Can Eat special.

This sushi restaurant was the best I have been to in a long long time!
The service was impeccable, the food was fresh, and the sushi chefs were extremely friendly and welcoming.
We ate off of the All you can eat menu and it was very affordable.
My mother and I let the hostess and server know that it was our first time in the restaurant and they guided us completely on what to order and how much of it was manageable.
The Portions were HUGE and I mean gigantic. Very well decorated and presented.
An added bonus was the quality of the green tea as I love to drink it with my sushi.
As appetizers I recommend the miso soup and seaweed salad. It is a great way to start the meal.

If you're looking for a great sushi restaurant in the Santa Clarita area please don't hesitate to try Akasaka Sushi & Grill.
