Not as good as Sonobana but still a favorite place for Japanese food. As soon as you are seated you are given a bowl of Japanese pickled veggies which are yummy!
Lot's of different things to try here. If you are into to adventurous eating this is the place to go in the local area. They have blowfish salad which is actually quite tasty. I always order the red dragon roll which is hot and spicy and then just mix and match whatever is on the special menu.Listed in: CT is not so bad, Local Eats

We decided to try this place a couple of weeks ago. I did mis-order a salad off of the menu, and it was entirely my fault. What I ordered by mistake was the salad with black seaweed, (Hijiki). When the waitress brought it, I asked what it was, and her reply was "I don't know." She went over to ask the cook, came back and told me what was in it. Even though it looked disgusting and unappetizing, I decided to try it anyway. Neither my boyfriend or I could stomach it.
I asked her to kindly take it off of the bill, and she refused to even talk to to a manager about it. Our rolls for dinner were okay, but there are other restaurants in the area that are better.
When it came time for dessert I asked what they had for dessert, and their only reply was "banana." I'm not sure if there was a language barrier or what there at the end, but the whole experience was horrible.
We will never go back there. -

This is a solid, local stand-by if I'm ever in the mood for sushi and don't feel like driving too far.
I am by no means a sushi connoisseur, but what I've tried from Akasaka has always tasted very fresh and satisfying. Besides the sushi, I've only tried shrimp/veggie tempura and miso soup, both of which were very good. -

My husband and I ordered from Akasaka a few nights back.
He ordered the Shoga Yaki and I got the fantastic tuna roll/lobster super roll.
I only saw the interior for a minute (since this was a pick up) but it looks decent-think it'd be a good spot for a quiet dinner.
My rolls were just OK-it was not that fresh (seafood was starting to smell fishy) but overall a 5.5-6 out of 10 (I'd give it a A for effort). My husbands meal however, did not look anything like the description: "tender slices of chicken or beef sauteed in ginger sauce". The restaurant failed to mention that a pack of Bird's Eye frozen veggies would be the main focus of the entree with approximately 4-5 pieces of thinly sliced beef. The "ginger" sauce was just your generic brown sauce-not sure if there were any gingers involved. Oh, and the miso soup was bland as all heck.
I'd give this place another try just because I think it deserves it. HOWEVER, I much rather order from Diako over the two. -

I love this place and always will...it was the first place where I tried sushi. Although I was a beginner...I will always remember my first shrimp tempura roll. The sushi chef was always pleasant as was the rest of the staff. The seafood is super fresh too! Although the decor is a bit dark, it is still super clean in there. Love this place....I need to go back sometime soon!

Excellent unagi and a really nice atmosphere! They have American beer and wine in addition to saki and Japanese beer. I thought their sushi was very good, as good as I've had.

This place really hit the right spot for me as far as sushi goes. They have a pretty extensive menu of possible sashimi/nigiri options, as well as a good variety of creative maki rolls. I ordered the Deluxe sashimi plate because I wanted to try all the basic sashimi, and I have to say that they were all delicious....very flavorful pieces of fish with nice buttery textures. I went with some friends who also got some interesting rolls with ingredients like strawberry and curry, which initially all sounded strange and gag-reflex inducing, but surprisingly they all worked well. The sushi isn't cheap, but its not any more expensive than the average sushi restaurant. Also, big plus for service: waiters were attentive and sushi came out very quickly. Definitely a place to try!
