I've been read over the yelp reviews and I have to agree on every submission.  Alan is the best stringer I know of.  Go ahead and play with a racket that Alan strung and you will know what I'm talking about.

Newark is a ways from my home, but it's worth the drive.

AK badminton is the best badminton place to go to. Everything is cheaper. I bought a badminton shoe that would usually cost around $110, but alan sold it to me for only $70, thats $40 cheaper!!!!! AK badminton is where I go to get my badminton stuff.

Alan is the man!  Hes a cool dude, and a world class stringer.  I go to him for all my badminton needs now.  Well...except for when I need Wilson grip.  Heh.  But anything else, Alan Kakinami.

Also, he may not be known for selling skate stuff, but I even bought a deck from him for my skater cousin, and now my cousin just buys his stuff from Alan too.

Been there today, shop is little small but has everything for my badminton needs. Stringing is a bit pricey but consider he is one of the top guy in this field so maybe it's fair. All other merchandises he's selling is a bit cheaper compare to other places like Asby in San Jose or online shops. So if I need a roll of birdie or some handle grips I would definitely go to this place because I work around this area.

Only down side is the website which is not complete. Have to know that internet is a very powerful tool these days. By putting the current product images and prices online will attract many more potential customers. Not too many people are willing to check the shop out without knowing what the shop is selling.

This is a new small shop but it's all is taken care of by Alan Kakinami. For those who don't know who he is, he's one of the top stringers we have in the area. He's done numerous pro events and has also been the offical stringer for my jr's team, and all teams that i've coached for.
if you are anywhere near here, this is the place to go for your tennis and badminton needs.

This is THE place to go for tennis and badminton needs. Theres no place that is any better. From stringing to advice on equipment, Alan is the guy to talk to.

I live in south san jose, in the silver creek area, and i make the effort to drive all the way out there just to get gear. The quality of stringing done by Alan is top notch and I haven't been able to find another stringer who can do the same. Sometimes I stop playing for months because I'm too busy to get him to string my rackets and I won't let anyone else string it.

Definitely the place to go.

short version:
i'm very happy w/ alan at AK badminton.   his evaluation of my style of play was very accurate and made wonderful recommendations for me.

long version:
i found him through another badminton friend.  i play at bin tang in campbell mostly, but i actually live in santa clara, so the drive to newark is not bad at all.

so quick background on me n my purchase - i used to play badminton over 10 years ago and just started getting back into it.  i'd say i'm an intermediate player who is a bit out of shape and just started to get back into the game.  i like to play doubles, and for the most part i play defense, but also enjoy a good smash if the opportunity presents itself.

so at first i thought i'd like an even balance racket, maybe something like a muscle power in the intermediate range.  during my email exchanges and phone calls with alan at AK badminton, he noted that he did not have the muscle power 45 in stock, but he actually suggested the Armortec 300.  he said that the Armotec 300 is a fairly light racket, with most of its weight at the top.  so i would be able to swing around for quick defensive plays, and has the top heaviness to give it a strong smash when i need it.

it all sounded good during our convo, but the thing is, i wasn't too sure until i actually have the racket in my hand and playing with it.  so i wanted to try both of those rackets out before the purchase.  and alan was able to get the muscle power 45 in stock just for our meeting - i was very pleased about that.

i'm not sure if others have the same experience as me, but when i got to the AK badminton w/ my friends, even though i was able to swing around the rackets to try and compare... i wasn't able to tell too much differences among the various badminton rackets he had.  so in the end, i just took alan's word and went w/ the armortec 300.

being that my friends n i all got rackets that day, we were pretty excited to try them out right after.  i started playing w/ the racket and pretty much everything alan told me was true about the racket.  so i was very pleased.  i took alan's recommendation and had the racket strung at 26lbs to improve control and accuracy and man did it make a difference.  i've been playing with like a ... 10, 15 year old kennex racket from my closet w/ some really lose strings, and this was a huuuge improvement to my game.  by now, i've been playing w/ this armortec 300 a few weeks already and i think it's fair to say alan helped me choose the right racket, it's light, it's quick, and it gives a great smash.

very happy w/ alan! i highly recommend him and ak badminton!!

Alan Kakinami is the Hattori Hanzo of badminton stringing. Always my go-to guy when I break strings, although I haven't been in a while since I don't play enough badminton to break my strings. My tennis racket needs stringing though so I'll get on that soon. Another reason why this shop is awesome: tennis stringing and gear are also available.

This is definitely the place to visit if you want your rackets restrung.  Alan is absolutely the best stringer!!!.  No one else compares, I don't care what people have told you about other stringers.  He is the best!  I have been going to him for more than 10 years now, and he has always done a great job.  I get my rackets on time and I never had any problems.  He is also very knowledgeable about the different types of strings, what kind of racket you would like, and best of all he always, and I mean always carries the latest rackets.  He also has the latest shoes at the store.  I use to drive all the way to Asby's in San Jose just so he can string my rackets, but now I don't have to because he is just around the corner from my house.  If you want it done right you should totally bring your rackets there.  And just so you know, he strings professionally at different tournaments for badminton and tennis.

This is the best badminton and tennis shop, and Alan is the best stringer!  He does a great job and he is very fast when it comes to stringing.    Alan is very knowledgeable and he has a lot of experience--he has strung for many professional tennis and badminton players.  One can definitely trust that he will do an excellent job.  I wouldn't have anyone else string my rackets.
