Service with a smile - best cheese grits I've had dining out...I tend to be very picky about my grits/prefer to eat them at home :)
Oyster poboy was perfect - the ratio of bread to sandwich fillings was spot on. My boyfriend and I shop at the Kroger next door all the time - we've lived in this area for the past year. I'm sad we didn't see this place sooner!
It is literally, a hidden gem. Loved it!!
    We plan on becoming regulars...

This unassuming joint is tucked in a Kroger strip mall.  I noticed it was always a hopping place with people.  Not being a big Seafood Fan, I hadn't tried it until recently.

Simply put their food is GOOD!  Their menu items are all at good price points.  I had a delicious Muffaletta Sandwich with Red Beans and Rice.  Friend had a Crawfish PoBoy and loved it too.  Service was friendly.  Reminded me of a New Orleans food.  Defiantly Recommend.

I live a mile from AJ's and didn't find it until I had lived here for 2 years.  What an amazing joint with great food and an awesome atmosphere!

AJ's!  Wow.  I love the food here.  The olive salad is the BEST!!  I order it as a side...Yeah it's that good.

    The Mufaletta is brilliant.

    Gator Tacos kick ass!

Red Beans and Rice; spot on.

All of the Po' Boys are huge and delicious.

It does what it's supposed to -- Cajun' food is fresh, a heaping helping, and not overpriced.  and AJ's SCORES!!!

I don't dish out 5 stars unless I see perfection. This place is 5 Stars!

Went here for the first time last week. I must be the last person that did not know about this place on the planet.
Very small and easy to miss location. Right next door to Kroger's. Just has a small sidewalk sign that says AJ's.

Suggest the gator taco for starters...

Get a shrimp/crawfish PooBoy sandwich with a bowl of chicken/sausage gumbo for main course.

Nice cozy bar with TV's or cozy little tables/booth to enjoy your meal in. The beer selection is modest but good with reasonable prices. Suggest getting a pitcher to save money (4 beers for the price of three).

The service was good and friendly. A good "local" vibe to the place.

Pros: small, excellent food and service, great vibe

Cons: I wish it was closer to my house so I could go every day!

Been using Yelp for awhile, recently registered, and starting to give reviews.  Visited this place upon recommendations and wish I could give it a 3.5.  The service was very friendly but although the place wasn't crowded, it took longer than expected to get our food.  I had the blackened grouper poboy which was very good, nice amount of fish to bread and very tasty.  Grouper is one of those fish like tilapia meaning its easy to cook well and hard to mess up so I expected this to be good.  Another person ordered the softshell crab platter which was good but nothing special.  Also had a few bites of someone's crawdad poboy which again was good but nothing to write home about.  The oyster poboy I was told (did not try) was very good.

Probably the strangest thing I wasn't expecting was the shrimp.  We ordered the kid's shrimp meal.  After a few bites, I look over and see my 5 yr old putting salt on his shrimp.  I asked him why and he said there was no taste.  Thinking he was over-reacting I tried it and he was right, very bland for a place like this.  It looked well battered, well cooked but this struck me as very weird that a seafood/cajun place had so-so shrimp.

The dishes that were good were good, was surprised by the shrimp and cooking time so while I enjoyed it and would come back again; this experience wouldn't make me drive out of my way to eat there again.

Without a doubt, this is the BEST possible Cajun food outside of Louisiana!

The gator tacos are amazing,  as are the shrimp po' boys and delicious Abita beer selection.  I always have leftovers when I leave here and enjoy it twice.

Normally I loathe running OTP errands for my boss, but this one has a happy food ending.  Needing a bite for lunch, I hit up my trusty Yelp app and was directed to this little slice of heaven in the Kroger shopping center.

I liked the feel immediately.  Lots of lunch crowd types but it also had a laid-back vibe.  The kind of place where you could sit back, stuff yourself on delicious seafood platters and PoBoys, and drink PBR tall-boys -   Which were on special for $2! - for several hours if you wanted.

Since I couldn't stay long and had to eat in the car on the way back to work, I ordered the Crawfish Bun - a smaller version of their PoBoy.  For less than $6, I got a super tasty sandwich and a side.  The bread on this sandwich was heavenly!! Soft but not mushy it held up under the weight of a ton of fried mudbugs, lettuce, tomato, sauce and pickles.  I'm telling you, the pickles made a world of yummy difference.  The fries were pretty good too, but I have a feeling I should have gone with the rice and beans.

I was so satisfied on the way back downtown that I completely forgot how mad I was about my forced adventure.  I really hope to be back soon.  They are having an anniversary special June 4th & 5th with a crawfish boil and drink specials.  Should be good times!

I was in New Orleans a few months back and did NOT get a poboy, so I'd had a lingering craving ever since.  Following the advice of fellow Yelpers I made the drive out to end that hankering.

I really wanted a soft shell crab poboy, but they were out and so I had to settle for my second choice of crawfish.  The key to the mud bug is purging and freshness and their poboy exhibited both qualities. But the poboy lacked a couple of signature attributes.  First, I'm always baffled when anyone calls a sandwich a poboy when it doesn't use crusty French bread.  But in this case the baguette worked, so I'll let that slide for now.  Second, a poboy should be overflowing and crammed full of generosity. This poboy was utterly devoid of lagniappe with the bread and filling being about equal.  Luckily the bread didn't overpower the poboy and it ended up being delicious.

Equally delicious were the fries which were much crispier than their initial appearance (skin on) would have indicated. I'd chosen the special "AJ" sauce and it's like a spicy roumalade.  Since the sandwich didn't need the sauce, the fries got to take a dip.

While authenticity wasn't fully met, I do agree that it's the best poboy I've found in Atlanta so far.  And it was delicious enough and affordable, so I'll definitely be back to try the other varieties and to experiment with the other sauces.

We had a great meal there tonight. I got a small cup of gumbo (which was delicious, just the right amount of kick to it), a half and half poboy of shrimp and crawfish. The bread was great French bread, with a nice amount of crust to it. My wife got the grouper poboy, which she really loved. The meal was really great.
A small place, with not a lot of tables, but a great little joint. A little expensive $40 for two poboys, a small cup of gumbo, and a side of cheese grits, two teas.

Great little Cajun place tucked away next to Kroger. I've been a few times now and so far every thing we have gotten has been great. The red beans and rice are the best I have ever had.

The place may seem a little pricey at first but to be fair the sandwiches are huge and can easily be split. Even going with a few gator tacos from the app menu makes a nice little meal.

Inside seems to have a nice little "regulars" vibe where everyone is very friendly. Heck if you spend too long looking at the menu you may even get some helpful advice from the regulars. To me that says a lot about how good this place is.

My favorite go to restaurant!  I eat here at least 3-4 times a month and I am always satisfied with the service, quality of food, and portions.

I can't believe that 6 years has passed already!  They threw a really cool party to celebrate and had all sorts of specials to enjoy.  Plenty of regulars showed up in support and a great band kept the mood inviting!

The service there is great: Billy, Terry, and Rivers always make it a point to say hey and take care of us.

My wife and I are hopelessly hooked on the shrimp po'boy.  It is one of the best sandwiches in Marietta.  I can always count on consistent food with them: from the gator tacos, to the fish dip, to the jumbalaya.....delicioso!

Their portions always fill me up and and if I don't finish, it is great for left-overs later or the next day.

Stop in to see these guys and be ready for a great experience!

This place is small and usually packed out, but it is worth any wait and always on point!

Keep up the great work boys!!

I've gone here three times with my buddy Brent.  I usually go for the Crawfish Po'Boy.  I like the spicy flavor of the crawfish and service has always been on consistent on keeping my water topped off.

It is a smaller restaurant and has a nice patio out front for folks to sit and enjoy a drink or their dinner.

It was great to have Abita Andygator on tap, with 1/2 dozen oysters ($4.99) and a soft shell crab po boy. Cost me $22 for the whole deal. Not bad at all. Food was good. It's a little place and you are sure to miss it so look for Kroegers and it's to the left of it.

I've known about this place practically since the day it opened its doors.  I always wanted to try AJ's and finally I did.  It has since made my list of favorite places to eat.

I ordered the grouper platter which came with superb fries and some extraordinary cole slaw.  There were also a couple of hushpuppies included.  They were the traditional kind, dense, hearty.  The blackened grouper was also quit good and flavorfully fresh and the remoulade sauce  accompanies the fish perfectly.

My gal enjoyed her po boy sandwich which was brimming with an abundance of fried shrimp, placed on a decent quality French roll.  Some items tend to be a bit on the salty side but that can often be the case with Cajun cuisine.

We shared a slice of key lime pie for dessert.  She found it on the overly sweet side and I thought it was quite good just the way it was.

My only suggestion is that AJ's expand their menu a bit to included some blackened chicken and a vegetarian variation of red beans and rice.  And I know this may be asking too much but I'd really like to see fried crab claws on the menu when in season.

Prices are reasonable, especially considering what has happened to the cost of all food, most notably seafood over the past year or so.

Service is pleasant and accurate and the atmosphere is very neighborhood friendly and genuine, free of pretentiousness.  AJ's is the type of place you would feel very comfortable recommending to someone who wants to know where the locals go.  AJ's is a standout winner in my book and their aren't many of them in today's cost prohibitive, corner cutting economy.

Just got back from AJ's after reading all of the great reviews here. It had a cool vibe like being at the beach. The food and the service was great.

We had an alligator taco as an appetizer and it was tasty, we did give it a shot of Tabasco though. We also had a cup of the seafood gumbo that we shared. It didn't have a lot of seafood in it some shrimp and a bit of crab. But is had a really, really  good flavor.  I cook gumbo myself and am quite critical of it. This met the mark.

We also had a half and half Po Boy with crawfish and catfish. My wife only ate the crawfish half. I asked her about the bread and she said it was great. I didn't get to taste it. Normally we share things but she never put it down! My daughter is now eating the catfish half. She had fries and they were natural cut and crispy.

I had the crawfish platter with Red beans and rice, slaw, and hush puppies. There were plenty of crawfish and they were tasty. The slaw was great and I am always critical of slaw The red beans were the best I have ever had, nice and creamy with some sausage in them. The hush puppies, not so much.

Someone (the manager?) brought our food straight out from the kitchen and it was nice and piping hot.  Our server's name was Whitney and she was great too.

We had our seafood fried but they offer it grilled and blackened as well

I give it 5 stars and I never give 5 stars. We will be back to AJ's. Soon.

Great shrimp po'boy, love their AJ's sauce, and their fries are pretty good, too.  The bread really makes a difference with po'boys, and these guys nail it - nice and crusty.

Service is excellent - they're above and beyond friendly and helpful.

Also a decent beer selection for such a little place - enough Abita choices to keep you on your toes and have some variety.

Best po'boy I've ever had in Atlanta, by far.

The problem with working at one place for several years is that at some point, you've eaten everywhere.  The rut in my career is bad enough, do I need to subject stomach to the same thing?  And with each passing day, it gets harder and harder.  Seriously, I spend more time figuring out what I'm going to have for lunch than on the projects that are assigned to me.  As a result, I've been delving deeper and deeper into the wilds of Marietta. This is how I ended up at AJ's Po Boys.

It's in a strip mall, the one with the Kroger, not the one across the street.  It doesn't even really have its name over the door, but the Abita neon sign is a good hint.  I'm sorry to say that I wasn't able to actually eat in as I needed to get back to the office relatively quickly, so I ordered a crawfish poboy to go.  I waited a while, but not too long.  The décor was fine, New Orleans meets strip mall, but they do a relatively good job of hiding the fact they're next to a Kroger.  I got my order and returned to my office and WHOA.

Good. Damn. Sandwich.  The bread was crusty, but soft.  They were generous with the fillings which, themselves were good.  The sandwich was large too.  I think it was bigger than Just Loafn's. It managed to impress me, even after sitting in the bag for 10 minutes until I could get to it.  The gumbo was also well done and THAT I didn't even get to until I ate it for dinner that night.  The only complaint I had about the food was that I ordered the AJ Sauce for the poboy when there seemed to be other choices.  The AJ Sauce turned out to be a middling remoulade sauce that, while it wasn't bad, it didn't do that much for me.  That's ok, because I liked the sandwich as is.

Four and a half stars for AJ's.  If this keeps up after a couple more visits, it'll be bumped up to five.

Honestly, I have never had a Po Boy that i liked. So maybe I am the wrong person to go to these types of restaurants.

However, I do know seafood...in fact i know it pretty damn well.

This seafood here ( i am speaking of the crawfish and shrimp) is similar (maybe 1 step up) of what you would get at Popeyes or a Long John Silver.  The seafood doesnt taste that fresh, and they dont put enough meat on the damn Po Boys.  If i wanted bread, Id just order a roll and call it a day.

A while ago they used to be like one of the only places in Atlanta that I could get Conch Fritters...unfortunately, they took that off the menu, so its even more of a reason for me not to check this place out.

I have to admit, the one thing that is good that they serve their is the "Gator Tacos", basically tacos with alligator meat....very good.  But still a lil small.

I think they go a little too lite on the food for this to be a "sports bar"

    I need more...

One of the great secret suburb spots in Atlanta.  This little taste of New Orleans is nestled in an East Cobb strip mall next to a Kroger.

Make sure to chat it up with the bar/wait staff.  The menu has been evolving.  On my last trip to pick up some take out I was treated to a sample of their gator and sausage chili.  That's got some kick, the way chili is supposed to taste.  Not the watered down for the masses stuff you usually find out and about.

The poboys are on real french bread.  The good crusty stuff you normally can only find in Southern Louisiana.  Bring a friend cause these things are big.

Always ask what's new in the beer selection.  They tend to rotate a seasonal Abita.  This summer it was a wonderful strawberry wheat.

I frequently make my own po boys, but I am too damned lazy to make them often enough to keep up with my cravings for some fried catfish, oysters, and shrimp.  This place is great for a casual, fun night out, but I actually tend to use this as my quick, comfort food take-out joint.  They are FAST.  I have dropped in to order a sandwich, and by the time you sprint next door to buy some beer to go with your fried food your order is already waiting for you.

I highly recommend any of the po boy sandwiches, and especially like to mix two of the types together.  I recently tried the fries (I always order red beans & rice instead) and was blown away.  Not sure what the seasoning on the fries is, but it's extremely addictive.  This may be the best alternative to ordering out when you're too lazy to cook yet!

Love this place. The poboys are huge, and you can opt for the smaller choice of getting it on a round bun instead. I also really appreciate how you can get a "half and half" poboy--my preference is half shrimp half crawfish with AJs sauce (a tasty creamy remoulade of some sort).

I've only been here for lunch but they do have a small bar and it looks like AJ's would be a nice place to knock a few back. Every single staff member is genuinely friendly and they always show they appreciate you being there.

Small hole in the wall, but I love this place and their food.  It is very reasonably priced and the food quality is great.  I am a big fan of spicy food in general and New Orleans cuisine in particular and have had it many times in New Orleans and elsewhere.  AJ''s seafood or chicken and sausage gumbo tastes great and authentic, although I wish there was less rice and a bit more seafood in there.  Their rice and beans for only $1 as a side item can't be beat.  Their Po Boys are huge and reasonable priced.

A tip:  If you have a hope party with the guys, go to AJ's and buy a whole Muffaletta.  It is probably a good10 or 12 inches and can easily feed 6 to 8 people.

This place passed my Roast Beef Po-Boy test!  Criteria includes:  A minimum of 10 napkins were needed to keep my hands clean, and the bun held up the gravy but was juicy enough to make me slap my mama.  THANK YOU AJ's for making a decent Louisiana po-boy in the ATL.  I am  coming back on Wed. boiled crawfish night.  ALso, just an FYI - the liquor store down the road called Shamrocks, carries Abita Strawberry beer!  WTG East Cobb!

I have found that this little place is one of my favorite places to eat around town. From their gumbo to the Key lime pie (which is made locally, and is to die for), to the gator tacos-You can't go wrong with anything you order here. Also, they always have ice cold Abita beers on tap for your enjoyment. I feel like that in itself seals the cajun deal. The service here is fantastic, and the food always comes out hot, which is my biggest point of notice when it comes to eating out.

The french bread in the po'boys is the real highlight, followed by the fried soft shell crabs and the shrimp.  Oh yes, the Abita Turbodog finishes the southern Louisiana thing.

The facility is probably 10 feet x 30 feet. Not a lot a room. oh well, it gets packed. People wait in line out the door or just pick up to-go. We even shared our table with people waiting, why not, the food is so good its easy to throw out the standard dining experience. Alligator tacos....small portion...perfect for the price - nice and tasty. Soft shell crab- can't beat it.
They list all their seafood items on a column on the left and your options of BUN, PO BOY, PLATTER go across the top. Prices below...Easy, simple, darn good. Try their key lime pie...its too die for! Fresh - and topped with a margarita mousse!

We tried AJ's for the first time on Saturday for lunch.  We stopped by and ordered fried shrimp PoBoy, red beans & rice, and gumbo to go.  All portion sizes were great and tasted fantastic.  We will definitely be back for more!

Excellent Po Boys, Muffalettas, Platters and sauces.

It is overpriced but I only go there once a month or so.

    I love this little place!
We wondered in on accident seeing a sign out front for alligator tacos. So of course we decide to try those. They have an awesome selection of seafood stuff including what I have found to be my favorite gumbo. It is a very small place that may seat 40, but they have a small bar too. Outside are 3-4 patio tables but on a nice day you may have to fight for them.
Overall this is a great place! The service was great and even the owner came over to check on us.

I was in the mood for some fried bottom feeders so I headed straight over to AJ's! Cajun/ Louisianian type dishes are this restaurants thing! The fried shrimp was lightly battered and not greasy at all! They were served with Fries ( Fresh cut ones and oh they were good), shrimp coleslaw, and hush puppies. My counterpart ordered a quarter muffuletta... trust me If you can actually eat a half I congratulate you! These sandwiches are huge!!.. Ham,salami, mortadella, and provolone with a type of olive relish on top served on Italian bread. And for the adventurous eater alligator tacos! Aj's might be a little hard to find if your looking for it.. they are located in the Kroger shopping plaza. They have live music some nights as well.

Best sandwich in Marietta, if not the whole Atlanta area.  Eat there frequently for lunch, and while a bit pricey, the super friendly staff and stuffed sandwiches make up for it.  Gator tacos, crawfish and shrimp po boys are a hit in our office!  Small seating area but they crank out the food fresh and delicious every time.  Take the drive from wherever you are and you'll be glad you did.
