Fremont, CA
I crave this place all the time. Although I haven't tried all the ramen choices, I would think that they are all similar. I love the soup although sometimes it can be a little greasy. I also love the texture of the noodles. I don't really enjoy the meat that comes with the ramen though, because it is about three quarters fat. I only come here for the ramen, nothing else.
The service is fairly quick. This place tends to be pretty busy at dinner time, but not busy enough to have to wait for a table.

Milpitas, CA
Tucked away in a cozy shopping/eating center in Fremont off Warm Springs, is a noodle house that is small but convenient. We were seated right away for lunch. The place was clean enough. The waitstaff is attentive. The bowls are big! The meat on the Premium pork was "fall off the bone tender". It was a bit salty for my taste but the broth made up for that. The Tender Beef Rib #2 was succulent! The noodles were "Al Dente" as to cook more in the bowl. It's a quick turn over restaurant. You eat, then you leave...no nonsense.
One star lost because:
They have limited hours. They should be open later on Friday, Saturday and Sunday. -
Review from Connie C.
My favorite thing about Ajisen Ramen is that I don't have to wait in line for a good bowl of ramen. I'm tempted to add a whole extra star to their rating just for that. ;)
So let me break it down -
-Premium pork: Absolutely must try. Meat is so tender and fatty, it melts in your mouth. Droolworthy.
-Tender ribs: Slow cooked until meat falls off the bones, just the way I like it. Mmm.
-Noodles: Great chewy texture.
-Miso broth: Porky, earthy, flavorful.
Service/Atmosphere: Casual, friendly. In typical Fremont fashion, it is tucked in a corner of an Asian strip mall.
Line: Oh, did I mention there isn't one? -

Tried this Ramen noodle house close to home. It is great. The Paiku Ramen is my favorite. Pork Ribs with noodles is like heaven. You have to try the Karaage. Japanese style Fried Chicken Nuggets. It's what Chicken McNuggets wants to grow up to be. Big tender bits of Chicken lightly fried. They come in six flavors. Original, Shichimi Pepper (Hot), Curry, Cajun, BBQ and Nagoya Tebakara flavors. The dishes are reasonably priced. It reminds me of the noodle house back in Japan. It's a great place for some Japanese style comfort food.

I am sitting and eating my bowl of ramen as I am writing this review. I ordered the party platter, sweet corn ramen, tan tan men, and the kids meal. Having tried a little of each item that I have ordered I can say that i am certainly not impressed. The ramen while not bland, is very salty but bearable. The best meal in my opinion is the kids meal. It comes with a half ramen, fries, ketchup rice, and some fruit.
The biggest complaint is the poor service and seemingly disgruntled wait staff. Not once did I see them smile, in fact one lady had a permanent frown. Orders were forgotten and water was not refilled, overall a bad experience. For some strange reason, I noticed that older more "ethnic" Asian customers were given tea automatically, while I had a difficult time even getting a cup of water. -

Ever since my first experience with Japanese ramen @ Santa Ramen, I've been trying to find a suitable ramen place in the East Bay. The place is located in the low traffic strip mall so there not a ton of people getting in line to get in. The place is clean and the service is quick.
I ordered the Umi Ramen (Soy Sauce) and and order of the Original Japanese flavor Karaage Chicken nuggest. The ramen was alright, not the great, just ok. The broth was a little too greasy for me, you can literally see the oil spots in the broth. The broth had a little too much bamboo in it. The chicken karaage was a little too salty. I tend to like my food a little saltier, but even for me this was too salty. I might be back to try again, but I will continue my search for the suitable substitute for Santa Ramen. -

This place is a hidden gem, it's located in a almost-dead plaza in the very back. I would have never thought that a ramen place would be here! I'm pretty excited I found this place because it is about a 5 minute drive from my house. All the other decent ramen places have to be at least a 20 minute drive.
We walked in at about 8pm and were asked to put our names on the waiting list even though there was no one else waiting. We were seated about 5 minutes later.
I ordered the premium ramen and the special chicken nuggets. My boyfriend ordered the same but with extra noodles and our friend ordered the sweet corn ramen.
I thought the ramen was very fresh and chewy. The broth was delicious and I didn't get tired of it (that tends to happen at most ramen places). The pork was melt-in-your-mouth tender with lots of flavor.
The chicken nuggets were also really good. I, being a huge fan of chicken nuggets thought they were perfectly breaded and fried. I even poured some spicy flakes on them to give it a little extra spice :)
Our friend said her sweet corn ramen was okay. She's been to a few other ramen restaurants and I think she's had better.
In my opinion, stick with the premium ramen if you're not sure. It's really tasty.

My first time at this location. They say the actual restaurant is better than the small one in SF shopping center. Id have to agree. I've always loved Ajisen, but this last time I went, I made the mistake of getting the super spicy ramen. I could barely enjoy it because my mouth was on fire most of the time. Next time, I'll get the tonkatsu and just add spicy flakes on it.
SOLID ramen every time. Chewy noodles, flavorful thick broth base and the ingredients aren't over powering. If it's your first time, definitely try the tonkatsu base ramen. You've GOT to try their base - then you can be a little more adventurous and try other ramens. You WONT be disappointed! You know it's a good bowl of ramen when you end up finishing everything, including the soup! Sluuuurp! Yum! :)Listed in: Go Ramen!

Yummy mall food! Mmm, spicy pork ramen is delicious (and make sure you look at the pictures before ordering, some of their meat is ground meat, others = sliced meat)
Never had non-ramen dishes here, so can't judge but my friend ordered a drink here. Not bad!
Would recommend if you are hungry from a long day of shopping. However, if you order food to-go, they won't let you sit inside to wait for the food...rude! It's not like I'm going to be there forever...so I wait outside and sit on the Chipotle benches. -

I came here with some friends from work and I'm officially in love with their Miso Ramen!!
I really like the broth and chewy noodles. With most ramen places it is usually overly oily but it wasn't the case here. The bowl is a decent size with good portions for about $8. They get really packed so be ready to wait a little.
Definitely will be visiting again soon!

The waitress seems so inpatient n had her blows frowned since the moment we came in. My noodle came with a hair. They exchanged me another one but the noodle is too hard ( not cooked enough). The soup base is good though. Overall worse Ajisen experience ever. Will never come to this location again.

I'm not a ramen buff by any means, but Ajisen did not hit the spot as I hoped it would on a cold and rainy day.
We got there when it first opened, and by the time we were done the place was about half full, and business was pretty steady. The place was clean and bright. We sat at a comfy table against the wall. The service was good as well - nothing to complain about.
For the food, it's true the portions are large and hearty with lots and lots of meat - more than I've seen at other places like Orenchi. However, I wished they put more variety of add-ins. They only had meat and cabbage, which got old about half way through. The soup was also very salty and greasy. You could see the large grease bubbles in every spoonful. This really put me off as I was eating.
Ajisen is a decent ramen place if you live near by, but it's not one of those must try places like Orenchi or Santa. -

Milpitas, CA
People who know me know that I always pick Ajisen for lunch, ESPECIALLY on cold rainy days. I always get the tender ribs and it's always been consistently good. Definitely THE place to get ramen if you're in Fremont / Milpitas area and the prices are slightly on the high side but still reasonable considering the consistently good quality.
Hint - get the volcano hot sauce on the side to share with your friends... a scoop of that in your ramen broth and you'll be sweating up a storm! Perfect for those ramen craving days. SLURP. -

I finally got to try this place thanks to a recommendation from a friend on Facebook. I took a buddy to go with me after work to check out this place. I did not know what to expect because I have never been to a Ramen place in Fremont before. Ajisen was located in a small Asian plaza and the decor had the feel of a mom and pop shop. Me and my partner sat down and were each given 2 menus, one for the their appetizer and the other for their ramen.
I was a bit surprised by the variety of ramen selections they had on the menu and the pictures looked great. I ordered their spicy pork miso ramen but I had my doubts since there weren't enough places that can make this good and I have been disappointed before in Maru Ichi's version of the spicy miso ramen. The places that do have tasty spicy miso broth and chewy noodles like Santouka, lack the fiery kick in their soup to be deserving of the title spicy. The spicy pork miso ramen at Ajisen is not only tasty but it does have a good fiery taste, which was a first time that I have experienced both elements for a miso broth. The only place I know of that serves a good spicy ramen is Ramen Dojo in San Mateo but it happens to be their pork flavor broth instead of their miso.
Me and my friend shared a second ramen bowl that featured a combination of their hand made premium pork and tender ribs, at our request. The pork broth was decent and kind of reminded me of Santouka. Their premium pork isn't as good or thick as the one at Santouka though while the tender ribs reminded me of the Ramen Dojo's chashu pork. Their hardboiled eggs were seasoned and tasty, which was not as bland as some of the other ramen places. The area where Ajisen comes up short has got to be their noodles because it doesn't have the taste of fresh hand pulled chewy noodles that I am accustomed to eating at Santouka or Orenchi.
I would say my experience at Ajisen Ramen was a relatively pleasant one because I came in with low expectation. My friend on the other hand, wasn't too happy with his initial ramen order that featured corn in it. I tried some of his broth and we both agreed that it was a bit bland and didn't have enough pork flavor. Overall, I'd say your experience here could be dictated by your ramen of choice since some of them can be a hit or miss. -

LOVE this place after coming here on a cold night. Just what I needed was a bowl of hot yummy goodness ~ I'm glad my stepdad suggested coming here! I plan on bringing friends, when I can. It's a great place to try some traditional Japanese noodles. What's really great, on the menu, there's history about each certain noodle & reason why it's named.
Mine was the Ajisen ramen. Sounds too safe? But I'm planning on trying on the rest when I come back, one at a time :) Thank you for making great noodles! -

We had "discovered" the San Mateo location two weekends ago and made the effort to find this location today. Arriving around 5:30, we were the second table to be seated. The restaurant was filling up as we left at 6:15.
We both ordered the #1 - Handmade Premium Pork Ramen, mine with extra ramen.
The food came quite quickly. There was a good amount of wonderfully flavorful fatty pork on top of both of our bowls. The broth was excellent, but based on our experience, the San Mateo location was slightly better. We couldn't quite pinpoint why though.
One thing that was a distraction was that after our order was taken but before it was served, one of the servers used some type of window cleaner on the front door. The scent of the cleaner was quite annoying and I would have asked her to stop had she started to clean the windows. This type of housecleaning should be performed before customers arrive. Especially when the wind blows into the dining room!
The service was okay and efficient. -

We're fans of delicious ramen and our favorite place is Santouku. However, this place is a very close second. Our good friends took us there on a Sat. afternoon and there was a line out the door at 1pm. We were finally seated and ordered the Ramen with ribs and the Spicy Ramen. Both were delicious, with tender "fall off the bone" meat and vegetables. The broth had that great pork flavor without being too oily or salty.
If you are in the area and crave for Ramen, give this place a try. -
Review from Hana H.
Let's get this out of my way:
1. Service: Not bad. Pretty fast and courteous.
2. Ramen: I've only tried the pork ramen (chashu ramen). The broth was super greasy and salty. The pork was very fatty and salty as well. The noodle wasn't as chewy compared to other places. I couldn't even finish the last 1/2 portion. BTW, where the hell was the hard boil egg (of course I'd prefer the soft boiled ones)?
Anyhow, not impressed. Not sure if I want to come back to try other flavors. Maybe in desperation? -
Review from Tom L.
There was a loooooong line when we showed up, which I always view as a good sign that delicious is headed my way. There are some things in life that are simply worth waiting for, and hot delicious ramen is definitely one of them.
The menu is more diverse than most ramen restaurants I've been to, but I quickly picked the BBQ pork ramen. The portions are big, especially the generous portions of pork they lay across the top of the noodles. The noodles are thick and flavorful, but the broth was a little disappointing.
Ajisen serves the type of ramen that warms your soul on a rainy day, come here to escape the cold and you'll leave in a nice warm food coma. -
Review from Faye A.
Ajisen is a little out of the way unless you live/work in the Warm Springs district of Fremont. Thankfully, it was a rainy day, lunchtime and the weekend, meaning there wasn't a 1 hour wait for a table. Service is...well, expectedly brisk, no harm no foul there...The karage is meh, but the special (most popular according to their menu) Ajisen ramen was great. The meat was delicious (a little too much fat for my taste, but my dining partner LOVED it) and the broth was fine...not life changing, but fine, hence the three star review.
I ate at the Ajisen outlet in Wanchai and it was just as good, meaning, they're consistent. Ajisen is a good ramen option if you find yourself in Fremont. -

Yum. Finally had a chance to try this place.
The paku( ramen braised short rib) was amazing so much so my wife who was a non ramen eater is converted. The broth was just the right amount of flavor and MSG.
We also got fried squid good
Bad fried wonton. Skip it. It was a frozen suimai fried. Yuck. -

Okay so here's the deal: I eat a lot of Japanese food. Growing up my dad would eat nothing but Japanese food, and he's filipino/chinese. With that in mind, I've had various permutations of ramen including some in Tokyo and Kyoto.
That being said, if you are looking to gorge yourself in a ramen orgy, Ajisen is the place to be. Their portions (at least at this location) are humongous. Seriously, if you leave hungry you have failed. Go eat a celery stick and watch Oprah. Did I even mention the kara age? I didn't realize Victor Conte moved from Balco to chicken nuggets, but in the end we all benefit. The kara age is about as big as some onigiri I've seen.
With size out of the the way, what about the taste you ask? Hmm well it's definitely not the best ramen I've had, and probably not close either. In my opinion a little too oily and salty. That could of course be because I always get the paiku men, but you don't feel too refreshed after downing a bowl of this stuff. Kara age I'd say is a little on the oily side as well. However, its good enough to satisfy a craving and come back.
Service wise, they are cordial and fairly quick. Never had an issue with that. The prices are also pretty cheap (except for the location in westfield sf centre).
Overall, like I said, if you are man-hungry and in need of ramen this is the spot. But if you're looking for the mr. miyagi of ramen, keep searching friends. -

Kettering, OH
This is the best ramen place in the world! I've been to hundreds if not thousands of noodle shops around the world trying ramen and I always come out disappointed. Generally I feel that ramen is a bad value because it's so easy to prepare. I always imagine some dude in the kitchen opening up a packet of instant noodles, throwing in a hard boiled egg, add in a thin slice of meat, mix in the soup packet and call it good. This isn't one of those places.
I ordered the number 2. The generous portion of meat was lean cut, tender, and amazingly delicious. It's been 4 hrs since I've finished my meal and I'm still thinking about the meat. Everything else was absolutely perfect. This was probably the best meal I've had in a long time. -

Not bad, but not as good as Maru Ichi. I give Ajisen 3.5 stars.
My brother and I started off our meal with what's supposed to be their spiciest karaage. We were completely disappointed since what we got was just chicken nuggets tossed in mayonnaise with maybe a squirt of hot sauce. I rather have some Chicken McNuggets tossed in Taco Bell hot sauce!
I had the chashu ramen. The soup was very tasty and the meat had a melt-in-your-mouth quality. I tried some of my brother's pork neck meat and it was also very good. The noodles had a nice bite to it. One negative was the egg. It was way overcooked.
The service there was quick (we got our food within 5 minutes). Tons of parking on site.
Ajisen is an okay option for ramen in the South Bay and it will do in a pinch, but there are better options out there. -
Review from Andrea C.
Ajisen is my go to ramen spot. I've only tried this place and tadamasa for ramen, and this place is definitely a lot better than tadamasa. ramen bowls range from about $7-10. If you like your ramen a little spicy but are too chicken to order one of the spicy ramens, order a side of the volcano sauce and add some to your ramen for a nice kick! I also really like the cold tofu. i've enjoyed everything i've had here =)

I was pretty excited to try this place, as the chain's pretty popular in HK & the socal area, and I've heard a lot about it. Unfortunately, I wasn't too satisfied with my ramen. I had the Dan Dan ramen, and it was extremely spicy. I love spicy, but this spicy was not a yummy spicy. As ramen, I don't expect much already, but I don't know... I would rather just take the drive to San Jose and eat at Orenchi or Santouka (in Mitsuwa) instead, or eat at the new ramen place behind my house, which isn't too good either, but at least closer.
The bowl of ramen comes out soon after you order, that's a plus. -

Overcooked egg in my ramen? Ehh...
That was my only complaint about this place. Other then that, the food was pretty good. I'm even more impressed of the fact that my waitress memorized my whole families order, so kudos for her going green and saving paper! :D -

I was excited to discover that my hometown of Fremont now has its very own ramen restaurant. There was also a fairly good write up of the place in the newspaper so I rushed right out and tried Ajisen.
Well, the end result was pretty mixed. I ordered the Ajisen Special ramen. Ajisen's ramen features really great pork chashu - they make it themselves. It's lean and cut thin in finger-like strips. I would go back there just to try that chashu again. But that is about all that I can recommend. The broth was really bland, with ample quantities of cabbage and scallions. The broth seemed to be loaded with MSG. The kaarage chicken was cut into big lumps and was greasy. The salad with bean sprouts and cabbage was bland.
The restaurant was very crowded when we ate there - Friday lunchtime - and the staff moved tables along efficiently. The servers were rather gruff and grumpy. Because I liked the pork and because the other reviews were generally good I would probably try Ajisen again, but overall a bit of a disappointment. -

I work in Fremont and this is a really good ramen place near work.
It's not Orenchi, but it's definitely the next best thing.
I don't care if the cooks and servers are Japanese, Chinese, or mexican, or even a mix of a few Asians because the food is consistent every time. There's a basic menu of different broths and toppings. They've never messed up my orders and the service is really quick- essential when you are on your lunch break.
I really like the miso ramen with volcano sauce. The sliced pork has a nice char on the edges and is sliced very thin.
I prefer a soft boiled egg-like orenchi- but they serve it hard boiled.
And lastly, get there at 11:30, when they open, because it starts to fill up quickly... Even on a hot summer day!1 Previous Review: Show all »

Tender Rib Ramen: $9.99
Spicy Miso Ramen: $9.99
Service was pretty spotty which is expected when there's only one waitress.
Strangest thing happened when we ate here for dinner- the paramedics and fire department came! Apparently one of the cooks was not feeling well, but all the staff went on as if nothing was happening.
It was just a tad bit disturbing to eat while paramedics are tending to one of the cooks....
I digress...Ramen was good, but can't compare to Orenchi! They did give a lot of noodles, but they were just ok. The ribs were tender and flavorful, but something seemed to be lacking from my ramen (maybe the ooey gooey egg?).
Would be back for ramen if I was too lazy to drive to Orenchi! -

Pros:
Large water glasses.
Friendly staff
The people who ordered the premium pork ramen liked it.
Semi-interesting raffle drawing for groups over $30 (unclear what the actual win% is, since we lost)
Cons:
Hard to tell which ramen options had which types of broth, and it was unclear what broths they had available from looking at the menu.
The noodles were really thin
The chicken karaage tasted alright, but it was pink in the middle and that worried me.
I ordered the miso ramen without fungus or bean sprouts, and apparently this meant that it only came with a very small slice of pork, half an egg and tons of green onions.
Everyone else I was with seemed to like it a lot more than me, so I'll probably be back and I'll update accordingly. -
Review from Andrew D.
My sister is an avid customer at Ajisen Ramen and decided to treat my mom and I here for lunch. It was a weekday around 1pm and the wait time to be seated was 5 minutes.
We first ordered the Tofu salad and it was really tasty. The Tofu was fresh and so was the seaweed. It wasn't too salty and the sauce was flavorsome. I ordered the Spicy Pork Ramen from my sister's recommendation, since it was her favorite. It appeared to be popular among other customers as well from my observation.
When our bowls came out, it was huge and it looked really greasy. I knew I had to run an extra mile that night to burn off the calories! I didn't mind because it was delicious! The phrase, "sauce equals boss" should be implanted in your head after you take your first sip. The pork was so tender filling with bold flavors. Maybe it was the fat... I don't know. Anyways, I can honestly say, Ajisen Ramen makes the best pork out of any Ramen place I've been too.
I will definitely be coming back here soon.Listed in: Ramen Adventure

After reading many of the reviews I was pretty excited to try this place. When I got to the location it was nice and clean like most ramen places I've been to. I have to say that the broth of the handmade bbq pork was pretty good but everything else came to a disappointment. The one thing that stood out for me was that a previous reviewer had mentioned how large the portions were. I have to admit that it was, but the problem is that it is only that large because of the large amounts of lettuce that they put in their ramen. I mean it was half my bowl. I didn't even bother eating the lettuce. From previous ramen that I have had, they usually didn't include lettuce and carrots. Also their portion for noodles is not as much as other locations.
Is this place worth it?
......Not really, but if you are really craving for ramen and its the only place that you can get to... I guess I would have to say its better then nothing.
