Aji is a cute restaurant with tasty food and really friendly management. The owner (I think?) presented us with our menus and later checked back on us to see how we were enjoying ourselves. There was a $5 white sangria special so I ordered that and it was a nice big glass of sweet fruitiness. Instead of giving bread to munch on, they bring you a small bowl of what seem to be homemade corn nuts - and they are so addictive! We had to ask the waiter to take them away because we were killing our appetites.

There isn't a lot on the menu for vegetarians, but I was pleased to see that there were not one but two non-meat empanadas: a whole-wheat version with spinach and tofu, and a regular version with mushrooms and cheese. Being a cheese freak I chose that empanada and it was a nice size for me after gorging on the corn nuts. It came with a spicy pepper sauce that had a bitter after taste but was still tasty.

A band came in and started playing, and the place began to fill up with people drinking and dancing and generally having a great time. Aji has good energy and I'd definitely return.

There was an impromptu reunion of me and all my old roomies after we attended a wake nearby. We all just needed some community and fast. Aji is brand spanking new. So it's presently quite lovely inside. There is a full bar on the ground level. Garden seating and rooftop seating. We decided on the rooftop after we were greeted by our host/server.

To our server's credit I might not've been the nicest customer he's ever come into contact with but our food timing was a bit off and it took a long time for my dish in particular to reach the table. I get grumpy when I'm hungry so again I am sorry for my sarcastic attitude. May I suggest that you all do a tutorial with your staff? My server didn't know the menu. We asked a question about an item and he hmmed and hawed and asked to see it. Then one of my roommates explained what it was we were curious about. HA! What is that about? You can't work in a restaurant and not know the menu right?

The food was pretty okay. Great flavors. Love the aji spice of the restaurant's namesake. It's subtlety really allows for flavors of other foods to be enhanced when the two are paired. I had the Stuffed Squid (!!!!) and loved it. I also tried the Shrimp empanada. Tasty but the flavors were a bit muddled. And the Spinach empanada (eh.) which didn't do much for me.

They serve blue moon! Loves it!

Worth a try if you're in the neighborhood and looking for something new. But don't go out of your way to get here.

Firstly: *score* on the papa a la huancaina, which two of my friends decided to order on my recommendation and gave an enthusiastic thumbs up. (No score, however, on me being brave and trying to pronounce this to the waitress instead of my usual pointing at the menu. Hint: I was way off. I think I'll stick to my pointing next time.) Anyway, it's potatoes with amarillo and olive sauce and slices of hard-boiled egg in case you're wondering, and it's truly muy bueno.

Second score: Our team finally won their trivia night last night! YES! Scored a bottle of wine as a prize. (Annnnnnd when your team wins a round of questions, you get a free shot.) The emcee is really great too and puts together excellent questions.

Thirdly: Chimay on tap. Go ahead and read that again. You'll thank me later.

Fourthly: An upstairs area and a surprisingly big outdoor space that I look forward to hanging out in in the fall.

Fifthly: They serve all their draft beers in perfectly frosted beer mugs, which is the kind of thing I would do if I wasn't so lazy.

Go -- just don't try to usurp us on trivia night. We bite.

Unlike Sarah H, we continued to order additional dishes of the tasty homemade corn nuts to compliment our yummy mojitos.  Kind of an odd spot next to McDonald's on 9th Street, but an empty garden! and rooftop!

Only have 2 wines..a house white and a house red. The house red (Malbec) was quite yummylicioius and pretty darn cheap.

Phenomenal energy at this place! I attended the halloween party and unfortunately wasn't in town long enough  to enjoy the fantastic menu on the terrace.

Great music, great party, awesome crowd. Definately  a must do and well worth the trip to Brooklyn!

We recently took a trip to Peru and came back still hungering for tacu tacu and papas rellenas.  Aji was delish.  We went on a Tuesday night and it was empty which made us nervous.  After eating the food, though, all I can say is, PARK SLOPE, GO HERE!  It should be packed all the time, especially when the weather is nice, since the outdoor garden seating is nice and plentiful.  Apparently, some nights it's pretty full and other nights not as full, but it should be full all the time.
Friendliest staff ever, by the way.

Meg and I went there for a friday dinner.  The menu is pretty much tapas--light food and small portions.  She got a salad, I got a salad and some beef kebabs which tasted like they were straight from Peru (they didn't taste like normal US steak, which was a nice change).

The wait staff was nice, although the waitress must have been a bit new, b/c she didn't understand the menu.  But she was attentive and we never felt like we were waiting for her. The atmosphere was wonderful and authentic.  The space is small and intimate (the brick walls are great) yet has a soaring ceiling.  The lighting, furniture, and S. American music were all great.    This is a great place for a light dinner or a romantic drink.

Went last night on a first date.  Started at the bar with a nice big FAT glass of Reisling ($7) and ended the evening in the cute little backyard area (after three more glasses).  I was surprised that the place was so empty.  I didn't try the food but the place is cute, the backyard is pretty big and the staff was friendly.  Not sure if Aji is romantic or not - but date #2 is tonight...

I went to Aji for a Sunday brunch with a crowd of 14.  We called ahead one hour and they said there would be space, which was definitely nice.  We were actually the only people there, except some people on the roof seating area.  Unfortunately, the service was terrible.  They took forever to come take our orders, then took forever bringing the food - which they brought out a few dishes at a time, so some of us were long done before others even got their food.  They forgot a couple of our orders too, and didn't think to explain details about the menu or refill our water or coffee.  BUT, if I was just with one or two people and wanted a mellow brunch in a nice atmosphere, this place would have been perfect.  The food was decent if standard, the music was great, and they have a great little garden out back and the dining room is nice.  And the prices are great too.
