If I had another star, I'd use it. I've done the b&b thing all over Texas, and found a hidden gem in my backyard, last week. Airy Mount b&b is a 130 year old stone structure/barn and a greathouse. There are 3 guest suites, a full kitchen, and main room in the "barn", which is a mis-labeling, but will work for now. The place sits on a hill overlooking a shallow valley, and large open areas, about a mile east of Burnet, Texas. It has earned an historical marker from the State, and has a very rich history.

The greathouse, where the formal dining is set, is incredible. Chandeliers, linens and china, antiques and oak. The grandeur of early Texas wealth is everywhere. Hard to imagine Commanches raided the place regularly.

Okay, an historical b&b. Already been there, done that. What truly sets Airy Mount apart is the owner/host/chef, Roseanne Haymann. She's beautiful soul living in another time, with a window on the present. She and her husband, Charlie, moved from Dallas, and bought the place in 1992. Charlie passed in 2004, and Roseanne has continued the venture with a passion that shows in everything around her. But she ain't no crusty little grandmotherly lady, either. She's a former Miss Texas, with a helluva story.

The breakfasts rivaled any I can recall. A 4-course breakfast with dessert? Get out!!  We hardly ate lunch and dinner that weekend.
I also want to mention that there is "active history" out there, as investigated by an Austin paranormal group. Nothing you might call negative, but apparently there may still be things going on that indicate how busy the home was for many decades. Roseanne said she really didn't buy into that stuff, but since moving to Airy Mount, has had some very interesting things happen. Food for thought.

The rates are conservative considering all the extras and such.  And there was chilled champagne w/ chocolates waiting in our room. We ended our stay with some jams by the fireplace (another guest had also brought a guitar). We stayed way past checkout singing stupid '70's songs with some newfound friends and Roseanne. Airy Mount is less than an hour from Austin, so we drove home to feed the dogs, and check email. This place is like 2010, and 1884 at the same time. We'll be back as soon as possible. WE LOVE ROSEANNE!

adendum: went back a month later during SXSW, and had another great stay. Didn't really go anywhere else...

My boyfriend( Jason) found this place online and booked it for our anniversary weekend. The lady was really nice and gave great directions and instructions on finding our key to the room.  She did however call us later and ask if we would switch rooms because she double booked our room.  Not a big deal to us and she threw in a bottle of champagne so that was nice.  We heard there is an amazing breakfast but we decided to sleep in.  Jason went down to get us breakfast and the fridge was full of juices and breakfast items for us to cook if we wished.  He made bagels and orange juice.  I only gave 4 stars because the room was a little too warm.  There was a fan on and an a/c unit but the room was still not very cold.  I will add that she hand wrote a note for us saying we could switch rooms if we wanted bc another was cooler.  But we had already taken showers and unpacked.  Overall the service was very friendly and accommodating, the rooms were theme based and lovely, and the house was very beautiful and quiet.  I would recommend this place.
