I've been working with Sara Habib at AirTreks and the experience has been night and day compared to before.

Sara is friendly, responsive and has helped me find great tickets for my trip to Australia. She's also helped us with flight changes and other things that have come up unexpectedly. Sara has saved us a lot of stress and it's been a real pleasure working with her.

I don't understand the issues with Airtreks not calling back.  Just use the easy online trip planning tool, price your trip online, and then request a more accurate quote.  They have always emailed me back within 24 hours.   Whenever I call, if the person is not at his/her desk or helping someone else, they usually call me back within a few minutes.  Maybe I'm just lucky, but I doubt it.   I've been using these guys for over a decade and have never ever had one problem with them.  These guys are my  ONLY  "go to" bookers for round the world trips.   In my experience, I have always found the agents to be extremely knowledgeable (and very patient), the routes completely flexible and the prices the least expensive compared to other RTW options.  There is just no better when it comes to their expertise.  They are simply, THE BEST!

    Hi there,

I just contacted Air Treks for a trip through Europe since I got stuck with my own research. Flight rates increased dramatically this summer and I thought contacting RTW specialists would help finding a great route for a more or less good deal.

It took them 2.5 days to answer my request. After a more or less friendly call - I actually had the feeling the guy was incredible bored and dissatisfied being responsible for my trip planning - they couldn't come up with a solution first. After a second call, limiting my stops and destinations I was told that there is a good chance putting together an itinerary matching my budget and expectations.

Well, when I finally received the offer it was $800 above my price range... Since I am offering customized travel planning to other people and I appreciate their feedback I thought getting back to them would be fine. I was asking why their previous estimate turned out to be so far off my budget and if there is an cheaper alternative.
I only received a short and snippy answer telling me to look for flights myself, because they are only specialized in Asian tours. The bottom line is I am a dissatisfied Air Trek customer and actually found an even better deal over http://Expedia.com. myself. A tip for Air Treks tell your customer in advance that Europe is so not at all your expertise that saves everybody a lot of time.

I think everyone else explained what they do so I won't do it again.

I did a ton of internet research (non-yelp) to very quickly book my big round-the-world trip.  I had a few hot spots I wanted to visit, Indonesia, India, Vietnam, Spain, but the rest was all up in the air.

I was getting competing bids from 3 sources - Airtreks, Airbrokers, and American Airlines Oneworld.  All three will do the job, depending on what you're doing, any of them can probably be cheaper.  But it was Daniel's excellent customer service skills and patience with me trying different combinations and schedules over and over until I had the right plan down.

Taking time off to travel foreign lands is a big, life changing experience that I highly recommend doing.  Airtreks can help.

It's been said before, and I'll double down on that- airtreks get points. Now i'm usually the DIY rock orbitz http://cheaptickets.com, kayak, shadytickethookups etc etc to get the best deal, but sometimes those aren't the best deals- especially when you're doing multiple countries.

enter airtreks- they're super helpful and put together a bunch of options and even revised them to respond to changing ticket prices- awesome. Highly recommended, even if you're used to being your own guide these guys will help.

Fantastic service for my major voyage around Asia.  I dealt with them primarily via email and a few phone calls.  Chris, my agent, was unfailingly polite and helpful as I sent him an ungodly number of itinerary changes.  They have a great website as well, with links to things like travel insurance and global calling cards, not to mention the itinerary planner which gives you an instant quote.  Ticket pickup was extremely professional, and their point person walked me through every ticket checking for accuracy.

If you're doing around the world type travel, go to
    http://www.airtimetabl...
to see some possible ways to do it.  Airtreks is extremely competitive as a 'consolidator'.  In my case, they were able to give me maximum flexibility and a good price, something which you may not get in one of the round-the-world airfares.

I will gladly update this review if anyone from AirTreks actually calls me back.

I have been trying to book a multi-city trip for several weeks through this well-reviewed company, but the nice people booking flights won't actually call me back to seal the deal. You'd think that a several-thousand dollar transaction would encourage them to pick up the phone.

I booked a ticket with airtreks about 5 months back, a semi around the world deal. I was able to go where I wanted to go and pretty much for the price I wanted.

My review is not stellar only because I was in a pinch a few times, and REALLY needed someone to talk to and couldn't get ahold of anyone from airtreks over the phone.

Maybe they've improved since. Rebecca G seemed to have a similar concern.

    piggy is not amused!!

having spent the past month trying to book a RTW trip on her own, this little piggy finally threw in the towel today and figured she'd give a travel agency a try . . . . after all the rave reviews here on yelp, airtreks seemed like the way to go . . .

hmph, said the little piggy! this little piggy was most impolitely turned away! the woman on the phone actually said verbatim,  "look up the prices online, because I can't get anything besides what it shows there"

    (*(oo)*)

thanks for the honesty - good to know you're entirely useless to all of us individuals who have an internet connection - must be a very targeted niche of world travelers you're serving there!

    most definitely NOT recommended!~

I contacted Air Trek when I wanted to book a complicated itinerary to Asia.  I also contacted another travel agency at the same time to compare prices.  Turns out Air Trek was more expensive by several hundred dollars and gave me bad flight times.  The guy helping me was very nice and followed up but for the price and not so great flight choices, I of course went with the other travel agent.

World Famous travel agency specializing in multi stop/round the world itineraries.  Check out their website for a cool planning tool that allows you to grab a number of destinations and get a quote on the spot--don't just dream about that trip, take it! Found them in a great book I just read "The Practical Nomad."  Called up and spoke with Deborah, who has turned out to my personal travel angel.  Nope, not a misspelling.  I've made tons of changes and throughout she has been friendly, helpful, and patient.  Trust me on this one, best experience I've ever had with a travel agent--PLUS these guys get screaming deals on travel.  They also have a toll free number:  1-800-AIR-TREKS.

I found out about AirTreks in a book, The Man Who Ate the Globe, where the author visited something like 31 countries in 12 months, all planned "by a little agency in San Francisco" called AirTreks. While my trip was much more concise (two countries, Peru & Costa Rica, spanning 8 flights in 10 days), my experience was outstanding. Our rep, Chris, was extremely attentive, available at all times via phone & email, and was communicative & detail-oriented. The trip went fabulously well with ONE exception - one flight was CANCELLED and I was not notified. Luckily the airline (TACA) was able to fit us onto another flight, but by then I had already contacted Chris who IMMEDIATELY put his customer service on the case to fix the problem. I realize this happens, and the issue was cleared up, but it could have been pretty dicey - the flight in question was our springboard flight from Peru to El Salvador to Costa Rica, and if we missed that one we would have burned a day. So in short - the service itself gets 4 stars, as that could have been a big blemish but Chris himself gets the full five. If you work with them, ask for Chris;o)

Dude, this place rocks. The hooked it up. I took a flight from LA to Italy, to Norway, and Scotland, and back. It all cost less than 1500. Great flights. Nico, did a great job in finding the flights. He went above and beyond their call of duty. It's amazing to see 5/5, they definitely deserve it.

Great experience with AirTreks customer service!  I purchased tickets to New Zealand and Singpore through a travel agent (who booked through AirTreks) last Fall, then had a major health issue and had to postpone the trip.  When I called the travel agent this Fall to reschedule the trip, she said I wouldn't be able to make the one-year deadline and we were "at the mercy of the airlines." ... which meant losing $4,000 in airline tickets.   I then called AirTreks directly and, after I provided a dr. note, they negotiated with the airlines and were able to rebook my trip.  Many thanks to Angelica Fasce.   Angelica's an angel!  Wish more companies provided the level of personal customer service.

Beware of Airtreks if you need to make changes to your ticket.

They are very professional in sales, I agree.  Have used them many times.  Tried to change a ticket over the weekend.  Customer service website states they are open Sun 12-9; closed on Sat.  OOPS!!  Not always.  When their small staff needs a vacation, it is closed on Sunday as well but the voicemail and the website do not inform the customer of the limitations.  So your voicemail that sits in a queue in the dark hole of unanswered messages.  When I purchased the ticket I was told that I could call the airline to make changes--not true.  AirTreks must make changes.  When I complained to sales of this issue, they said you must "be in the airlines faces."  Both Continental and United denied us reticketing privilege.  If you never ever have to change a ticket, it works smoothly enough

I'm a travel agent and AirTreks is the best in the industry. Not only are they incredibly professional, quick to respond and thorough, they have saved my clients tens of thousands of dollars with their stellar special fares. The only drawback is making any changes or cancellations incurs penalties and not full refunds, but the savings is worth it. Both Glenn and Eugenia are phenomenal and make my job much easier!

we're planning a 6 month trip through Asia, Africa and Europe and Chris has patiently and graciously been helping us. Love the website, love the fact that the staff has travelled and has a passion for it.  Decent rates, and  lots of guidance. Totally recommended over trying to hack it yourself. One of the most appealing things to me is that there is no restriction on the direction you travel.

Airtreks offered me the best price on a complicated series of flights around Asia.  I was pleasantly surprised by their customer service -- I had a series of mishaps on my end, including last minute changes and missed flights, and they graciously handled (or helped me handle) all of it.

Service was great, don't believe their party line that you'd better have tickets in hand for all segments or risk long waits and high prices. I did and, as a result, my wife and I got hosed on a complicated set of tickets for a year long Asian tour. Paid $13,000, booking wa-a-y in advance for tickets I'd estimate I could have picked up, as I needed them, for about $9,000. We did six months of follow on self-booked travel and never had a problem finding a cheap, available flight at short notice.

I used these guys about 7 years ago to book a RTW ticket and it worked GREAT.  I was a little worried, because they couldn't give me all the tickets and at one point in my trip I had to go to a travel agent in Bangkok to pick up the rest of my tickets.  I was worried that my tickets wouldn't be there, but there they were!  Also, booking them online was a really easy process and their prices were the lowest.  I would totally use them again, I just wish I had the time to go on a RTW trip again.  Sigh.

We had a very complicated travel agenda that was ever changing and not only were we met with professionalism and competence but incredible patience. These guys know what they are doing and I felt like they could relate to my concerns. On top, we qualified for some great promotions which in the end saved us money. We will defintely use them again!
