Review from Brandi C.
This hotel meets the needs of the business traveler very well. It's not the flashiest or most comfortable hotel I've ever stayed in, but for what I needed it for, it was certainly A-OK.
While it's a bit away from LAX, Airtel Plaza is still really easy to get to via the FlyAway bus. Then, once you arrive at the Van Nuys FlyAway terminal, you simply call Airtel on the courtesy phone and one of the friendly staff members comes to pick you up in the free shuttle, which worked well for me. They will also take you back to the FlyAway terminal when it's time for you to catch the bus back to the airport. The staff, at all times, were some of the friendliest hotel staff I've ever had the pleasure of interacting with, which actually did make my stay more pleasant. They seemed to truly care about my hotel experience, which was somewhat surprising.
The rooms were spacious and kept very clean, although the decor was a bit dated, and my towels were replaced every day (whether I wanted them to be or not), which was a bit of an annoyance, as I was trying to help out the planet! My room had a fridge and little "kitchenette" area, which I didn't use except to make coffee, but it was still nice to have. The king sized bed was comfortable, but was ridiculously low to the ground, and the A/C unit worked just fine, but would occasionally make a noise that sounded like there was a freaking generator in my room. I didn't complain about that, though, as oddly it only seemed to happen during the daytime hours. You could also hear the noise from the people walking down the hallway, so it wasn't always the quietest, but it also wasn't so loud that my sleep was interrupted.
There was a bar, restaurant, and cafe-type place on site, which all served decent enough food, and the bar also offered Happy Hour food and drink specials, which was nice. For the ladies, you should note that the bar was usually filled up with business men travelers (the kind that like to try to pick up women just a bit too much), which was a bit skeevy if you're traveling on your own. If you're with others, though, the bar is actually quite nice and worth a visit. There are also a few restaurants within walking distance, but nothing super spectacular.
All in all, I would certainly stay here again if I needed to travel for work, but I'd give it a miss otherwise. -

Came to this place as it was the closest to my soon to be sister-in-law's place. The place is decent looking inside and out. It is close to an aiport which can be annoying for light sleepers but I was ok with it.
Now, to the gist of my review. The room we got was decent looking. The only problem was that the toilet did not work. We called the lobby to send someone over and they did, quickly. The guy said he had "fixed" it and I even tipped him. My mom then tried it out and it still did not work. We called the lobby again and they did not send anyone over until 3 hours later. The guy came and was unable to fix it. Thank goodness we were only there for the night or this place won't even get a star from me. -

Everything about this hotel screams CHEAP and GREEDY! Here's how:
I called three times (my doing) to make a reservation. Each time the price went up five dollars from the web listed price. It seems that every time they fill a room in this mostly vacant pit, they raise the price--maybe figuring all of the sudden they are in demand? The gate to the spas was padlocked in the middle of the day. To cheap to pay to heat them? No sign explaining why, and the front desk people were clueless.
Next, this hotel that fancies itself the Ritz of Van Nuys (the armpit of Los Angeles) elevated greed to a new level. Hidden in the registration form is the information telling you that you will pay $10 a day to park in their unsecured (just a silly gate that won't stop the thieves that surround the hotel) parking lot. What do they think, that you are visiting downtown San Francisco or something? This is Van Nuys! And to make matters worse, I got stuck at the unattended exit for twenty minutes while a car in front couldn't get out the gate. When I finally got to the gate, I found that my parking card wouldn't work either, so I had to hike two hundred yards to the front desk for a new one.
I came to this hotel many years ago for business conferences. I thought the restaurant was way overpriced for the quality and amount of food served. It has only gotten worse in the intervening years. Do yourself a favor and find another place to stay. -

This is Based on a 1 night stay.
I was soo afraid to stay here after reading the reviews but because my reservation could not be canceled I decided to try this place out anyway. I'm here for two nights and I must say, the room I got has NOTHING wrong with it (so far).
I checked in last night. The person at the front desk was a little rudish (but not really, maybe he was too sleepy). I requested a clean and quiet room because I have a lot of work to do. He was totally responsive to that. I have a room on the third floor. Very clean (again unlike the reviews). It is one of the good ones in the pictures on their website.
The bathroom is clean. There is no loud noise coming from the air conditioner. The lobby was really clean and nice too (I dont know why some people said it was a shitty run down lobby). They have a TV which has decent number of channels. Since I'm here to do school work I really dont care about the channels they are offering.
Over all, really good so far. Lastly, some people said the internet did not work so they had to go searching for coffee shops. I'm logged in through their internet right now!
Hope my second night's stay is as comfortable, without any hinges. I have to say, the place is no 4 star, and it looks like a 2.5 start on the outside. But the rooms are pretty good. I was impressed when I came in, after being scared to death of getting a bad room based on the reviews. -

I stayed in the Presidential suite room 3016. Ugly tree blocks views. Hot tub outside is cracked and has low pressure. Patio umbrella is broken. Furniture inside is chipped stained and dingy. Bed is very uncomfortable and is a cheap spring mattress. You can hear the bathroom fan rumbling all night from the rooms nearby.. how hard is it to grease those things up!? TV is an old 1990s Phillips that sits in a ugly cabinet with a big yellow stain on it with drawers thst don't close properly AND it's off to the side of the room so you have to turn your head to watch TV which gets tiring after 5 minutes. Carpet is lumpy stained torn in places and is coming up. Mini fridge is dented. Curtain on north window has a suspicious-looking stain on it. Stains in the bed's headboard. YUK! Def not worth $189/night

Stayed here last week for a few days. It was quiet and comfortable. Only probs, there is no washer dryer and the cafe wasn't too filling. There is a laundromat and circle K on sherman way and woodley that I used instead.
The staff brought up a new towel about 15 minutes after I called to request it. All in all not bad at all hahComment from Cristina C. of Airtel Plaza Hotel 10/13/2011

C'mon folks, can't we get some love for the restaurant in the Airtel. Maybe the waitstaff is trying harder cause of bad reviews but during my recent stay I found the staff attentive, food reasonably priced and quite satisfying. Next time I have to stay in LA, or Van Nuys, I will definitely stop in at Airtel and chow down.

The two stars say it all, "Meh. I've experienced better." I knew going into it that this hotel didn't have the greatest reviews, but I'm a sucker for airports and air shows. So a hotel literally 100 yards from the runway had my interest. Definitely lots of air traffic, close and loud. Looking at the hotel's position on Google Maps was cool, but didn't take into consideration all the large trees blocking the view to the runway. So, needless to say, the view wasn't that great.
If you are interested in a nice, quiet location, this ISN'T it. Even with the sliding glass door closed, there was a 1/2 inch gap along the track at the bottom, so cool air and noise made it into the room.
The room was clean, water pressure fine, water was hot and included all the standard amenities (coffee maker, shampoo, etc.). But nothing to write home about.
Really couldn't figure out why parking was $10/day for guests other than additional revenue opportunity. The hotel and it's parking lot was not in the best part of town. I could see a reason for the hotel paying us to park there.
Don't plan on staying here in the future. Unless you work at or have meetings near the Van Nuys Airport, I would recommend another place. For a clean, descent size room, it's ok. But needs an upgrade before competing with any 3 star hotel. -

This place was decent. I've stayed in worst hotels then this one. I didn't see any real problems with the hotel. Yeah your right by the airport so of course your gonna hear airplanes. Not really a big deal. FYI I ordered room service and they give you really huge portions....that's a plus for me.lol.
Customer Service was 50/50 I had a problem with check in and there was miscommunication with the guy Gary. I understand that some of it was my fault but he was a difficult one. The next day I delt with a guy named Brain best customer service I have recieved in a very long time, Thanks Brain for making things easy! Had to give a good review for him because he was that good.
All in All I'd stay here again. -

I'm beginning to think that some of these hotels have an "Internet travel" wing where they put customers who book thru Hotwire, Expedia, Priceline and the like because I'm not seeing the same level of quality that some reviewers here do.
Pros: Large room, reasonably helpful staff, decent view if you're lucky enough to be facing a courtyard or up on a balcony overlooking the airfield. Free internet.
Cons: Everything looks and feels old. Not retro...just old. Beat up 90's era furniture, stained berber carpets, peeling paint in the corners. Dirty smudge marks on cream colored walls. Dingy lighting and accumulated dust on the lamp covers. No fridge at all. Dirty windows. $10 per nite to park. Dozen or so storage containers labeled "pack rat" throughout the parkin lot. Room keys can be rendered useless if held in the same hand as your cell phone.
Bottom line: Great if you just need a place to crash after flying in and don't put much stock in detail. It's reasonably clean and will get the job done. Very glad I didn't pay full price. -

The room was not that large, but big enough for a weekend stay. The balcony was very large with a jacuzzi, two lounge chairs and an umbrella-table for four. Yes, things looked a bit dated, but the hotel is in the process of renovating.
Service was reasonably helpful and friendly (we asked for a bottle opener and wine glass to be waiting in our room when we checked-in and they were; I needed a sewing kit, and they sent one up right away).
The grounds were pretty and a wedding was taking place (don't know how they dealt with the noise of the airplanes, though). The airport can be loud, so if you're looking for a quiet place, this isn't it. However, in our room with the windows shut, you really couldn't hear anything and they stopped flying around 10 or so.
Also, the location isn't that great, so don't expect to be walking anywhere nearby.
Overall, it was a nice stay for me and my husband. We enjoyed the large balcony and jacuzzi. Also, the Clipper Club downstairs (we only had drinks - didn't try the food) was conveniently close. If we have to return to LA for a short trip (which we will) I wouldn't mind stayng here again. -

AWFUL!!! My mom stayed here while visiting. Airtel thinks they are some high roller hotel. First I pick up my mom from the airport with my puppy. I take her to the hotel and never set my puppy down. Im not an idiot. Its a hotel but I am not going to leave my pug in the hot car. She checks in and they wont stop asking about the dog. We dont need to tell you five time that the dog is not staying. We get to the room and they call and check... Are you kidding? The charge each night for parking... EVEN IF DROPPING OFF! They do not have a washer and dryer facility, they never brought my mom towels she had to call an ask... They said they will bring them up... They never did. Then they never refilled the coffee. We called and no one showed. The manager was very rude... Come on Motel 6 knows how to bring coffee and towels. Its not rocket science. She used the ice bucket and went to use it again and it wasnt changed. If you are going to at least pretend like youre a luxury hotel then act like one. Never again.
By the way still waiting for coffee. I wonder if they got lost because I am more than willing to help... Or I can just walk down stairs for you. Dont say you are sending someone up and dontComment from Cristina C. of Airtel Plaza Hotel 10/13/2011

I stay here because it's a good deal, given the price, and what kind of crap you'll find downtown in the same pricerange. BUT
Don't expect any kind of customer service. Anything beyond getting fresh towels, etc, and you're out of luck man. My last stay and this one, there were lights in the rooms that didn't work.
On the internet thing... forget it. The wireless access is completely unreliable, and if you rely on this to do any kind of work, it really sucks to schlep your crap down to starbucks, pay their access fee, to send your emails, etc. When I complained or even suggested how to fix it by rebooting their modems, etc, they were clueless,,,,, clueless.
This is a 2 star hotel at best. -

I found this hotel through Expedia, unfortunately. One of the front desk clerks was really nice. She checked us in early and we were able to change rooms to a better view. We got to our hotel room and it was basic. It was more like a two star hotel than 3 stars. They have a little calendar that has special hotel events which was cool.
Comfort level of the hotel was OKAY. What was uncomfortable was that the room service didnt replenish the soaps or shampoos. Along with that, any time my boyfriend and I left the hotel or walked around, NOBODY else was in the hotel. We never heard anyone or saw other people except for in the lobby area or the little restaurant durring breakfast. Aside from those times, we didnt see anyone else staying in the hotel, weird.
I went to check out the gift shop, and I see some magazines, they look like they're in pretty poor shape, rips or marks on them. I find a date on one of them, OCTOBER 2008! Hello? It's April 2009, newsflash!
This is the worst part. My boyfriend and I put on our swimsuits and go to the hot tub around 7. They have three hot tubes, two in one area and one in the other. We go to the one that has two, we turn it on and its luke warm. We wait...nope, still LUKE warm! We check out the other one, same deal. We walk all the way across the hotel to the other hot tub, that doesnt work either. We inform the clerk and she's totally snotty to us. She tells us maintenance will be out there in a minute. So we go wait, eventually, we go back into our hotel room because we are tired of waiting. In the long run, NOBODY goes to check, we talk to the manager and she lies to our faces while she told Expedia something else because we had called them and then they called the hotel. She told the hotel one thing, and told us another.
Worst expirence of my life, I HATE that hotel! -

Used to stay here regularly when I'd travel to Van Nuys on business, which was almost on a monthly basis. That was until I woke up one morning to a roach crawling across the floor of my room! I freaked out! So horrifying!
To top it off when I told the front desk manager about the roach, he offered me a free breakfast. Are you freaking kidding me?! Talk about unappetizing... gross! -

I don't understand the bad reviews on yelp about the Airtel. My experience was a positive one. First, the customer service was top notch. You walk into the lobby and a huge model of a 747 flies over your head and airplane memoriabilia all around. The guy at the front desk was very nice and helpful.
The room we had on the 2nd floor was very spacious, though not one of the jacuzzi suites, there was enough room for another king bed. The room was set up with a king bed, a love seat, a desk and a tv. Tv was old, but did the job fine. The carpet had stains from over the years but its not dirty. The bathroom had certain issues...flushing the toilet makes a weird sound, and the shower fixture was coming out of the wall. Shower pressure is plenty fine.
Though literally right next to the Van Nuys airport, noise from planes was very nil. We heard maybe two planes. If you are an aviation buff you could sit and watch the planes.
The only gripe I do have is the $10/day parking fee. It's a gated parking lot, and I would recommend the back parking lot over the front for more safety.
Overall, I think for the price we paid on travelocity($99) on a busy weekend in LA, the,Airtel is a great alternative and wouldn't hesitate to book here again.Comment from Cristina C. of Airtel Plaza Hotel 10/13/2011

I was not a hotel guest. I am attending classes in one of their large rooms. Reception is clueless and had to step away from me five times to ask her superior my questions. Superior did not have the courtesy to come out and talk to me herself.
Cafe had very ordinary food for extremely high prices. Also bad service. Cashier did not know how to work the register. Not familiar with what food was being served and acted annoyed when questioned.
The location is bordered by a ghetto industrial zone and a small airport. Parking however is not free. $6 per day.
Airtel Plaza is really trying to milk it. Not sure why anyone would actually stay here. -

Stayed here for the week on business ... a "private pilot's hotel" ... the Airtel is located by the Van Nuys Commercial chartered airport .. where the corporate and private jets land and take-off with their jet-setting passengers ...
Staff is pretty much friendly and very accommodating. Rooms and bathroom are generic, I would say a Hilton or Marriott's standard; definitely clean, but definitely not 4 star either; while it is not as moldy or gross as a Holiday Inn. Free wireless access ... however, if you're starting a new job, and have no laptop for a couple of days, their Business Center charges horrendous for Internet access! Whereas other business hotels provide free Internet access, oh well, I guess this is a pseudo biz hotel, as it caters to the private jet pilots and crew.
Their pool area looks charming .. my best part is the 24 hour gym access; clean free weights (i have to emphasize clean, NOT rusty, as other hotel gyms have those old-skool free weights). Nautilus equipment is ok, bottled water access and fresh towels.
For a business trip, this is an ok hotel. -

Van Nuys is really lacking in quality hotels, which is why the Airtel was such a great surprise. The room we stayed in had two queen beds and was very large. The room was very clean and the cleaning staff was friendly and did a great job. The bathroom had high quality soap/shampoo etc. The cafe food wasn't great, but they have great coffee. Go to Western Bagel for breakfast instead.
Even though it was so close to the airport I was never woken up by noise. There is also a great pool, jacuzzi and cute garden with a fountain. All and all, it was a unexpectedly great experience! -

Pro: Big banquet halls. Con: Right next door to the VN airport so it is extremely loud when an airplane flies by. I want to hear myself when my fiance and I exchange vows...

It probably the ONLY nice hotel in Van Nuys. It's too expensive for the hookers so I doublt you'll find any here. The buffet is not bad either. I haven't been for awhile but I wouldn't mind staying here if I have to house unexpected guests. :)

Nice Hotel, not stellar but nice. The location next to the airport is quiet and better than other hotels in the area. The wi-fi is ok. I ended up plugging in for more consistent bandwidth. The gym is pretty nice and the treadmill worked with no squeaking belt.

I've stayed here a few times it's actually pretty cool. I love the fact that it located right on Van Nuys Airport so you can see planes take off...The rooms are nice, clean and comfy...Room service is okay.....Paying $10 for parking a night to park in Van Nuys is the down side....If you got back more then once I recommend joining the "Captains Club" you can check in early and check out later. They also give you a bottle of water and a bar of soap upon check in....

Stayed here a couple of times - once last year and once last month. Overall, it was a plesant experience. The rooms are great size-wise, clean and comfy. Quiet dispite being smack dab next to an airport. The staff is very nice...special shout out to Shawn, the best waiter ever! The only thing i would change is the pool area...its pretty plain and needs more shade. Perhaps some big trees/plants would help. All in all, i enjoyed my stay and would definitly be back!

for the price it's not bad and it's one of the few hotels near universal studios that is actually priced low. now as far as the accommodations it's all relative meaning everyone's standards are going to be different.
the hotel was clean, good location and priced right $99 + $25 food beverage credit is what I paid. and yes if your going to go then buy the buffet in advance when you check in because it's only $10 and yes the buffet is a little small on choices but kids under 12 eat free. parking is $10 and there are 2 towers...hotel was going through some renovations when I stayed there. -

I end up in Van Nuys often, and the Airtel borders the AIRPORT. It's like right next to parked planes. Noise to match...
Did I say NOISE? Yup, till wee hours taking off and landing. No restaurants nearby, no nothing unless you want to walk by an aircraft interior shop. Restaurant in the hotel is less than average, way less.
Stay here if you drive a compact and don't want to sleep in your car. Send your pilots here if you fly a private jet and you hate your pilots. -

The Airtel Plaza Hotel is a wonderful getaway in the heart of the San Fernando Valley. Not only is the service impeccable, but the accommodations are beyond what I expected. We ate dinner in the restaurant, Landings, and the food was great and the waiter was so on top of things. We then moved to the bar where the cocktails were delicious and the prices very reasonable. We finished our night of with the creme brulee and chocolate lava cake which were to die for. Lastly, our suite was very nice and bedding was so comfortable I never wanted to leave. If you are looking for a great stay at a wonderful hotel, I would suggest the Airtel every time. Great hotel!
