We ordered our Feast of the 7 Fishes Christmas Eve fish from these guys. Absolutlely incredible selection and they special ordered three branzini and cleaned/scaled it for us. Medium sea scallops were GREAT, frog legs were huge. I really can't recommend these guys enough. Order was ready when they said, as well as 100% accurate.

Agree wholeheartedly w/ the previous posters. Don't get me wrong, Whole Foods, HEB, and Central Market are all Texas companies and deserve to be supported on their own merits. But I try to make an effort to support our local merchants as much as possible.
If you can't get all the way to the markets on the coast, Airline is the best option in town. The prices are way cheaper than the aforementioned stores and the selection is on par. You'll also get a much more personal vibe interacting with the folks at the counter than at the mega-marts.
The down side is that many of the selections are farm-raised. Salmon, snapper, striped bass being among them. Additionally, while Chilean sea bass and monk fish are delicious and wild caught, they are among the most over-harvested fish on the planet. So serve your green sensibilities by buying local, but not at the expense of collapsing fisheries abroad. That's my PSA for the year - cue music and star tracing across screen. -

From what I can tell (from my limited research) this is one of the better seafood markets in Houston. They are a wholesale fish market that sells to the public and I think their prices make them a good alternative to CM and WF. I got a pound of monkfish for $10.59 today and have seen it for around $14.99 at other stores. Their sea scallops were $12.99/lb and oysters $6/dozen (and they sell them by the pint and quart) and they carry everything from pre-made crab cakes to squid.
Airline Seafood closes at 3:00 on Saturdays and they aren't open on Sunday, so you do have to think ahead if you're preparing fish over the weekend. Also, they don't have a huge selection. I initially was thinking I'd get some halibut but they didn't have any in stock.
Hopefully I'll make it to Hong Kong market and out to the fish markets in Seabrook soon so I can check out the competition. In the meantime I'll just say that Airline Seafood is just another great and convenient business in my neighborhood and if you're looking for a fish market inside the loop this may be your best option. IF you live in center city Houston (Montrose, Midtown, RivOaks or other inner-loop location) this should be your seafood market. Airline mostly stocks all restaurants in town, but does sell seafood to the public consumer. I've never been disappointed by the selection available nor the recommendation from the fish mongers of what's freshest and how to cook it.
At first, I was hesitant to venture in to this market given it's mostly commercial/warehouse appearance, but I got over it and was happy I did.
If you love ceviche and fresh fish from the gulf, get it here. Grill it up and serve it.Listed in: My Neighborhood

I made my first purchase here this week, Wahoo!! (Not to be confused with its online cousin, Yahoo!)
I must say the selection was a bit limited but the prices were right, the fish was fresh. Farm raised or wild, either way I still burn em the same.
I will probably come back to check out some more of the slippery swimmers. -

I used to love this place, friendly, attentive and full of wonderful fresh seafood. Now they just do not seem to care as much and the quality of the fish has plunged.
If I cannot see the eyes and gills, I am not interested, and all the fillets means that it is time consuming and problematical to judge the freshness.
I am still smarting from the last time I ordered lump crab for a special event and they sold it out from under me. Not the best in retaining customers, but in some respects better than the big markets.
I would rather make the drive to Kemah. -

A small, local place like this is what you make of it. Yes, the retail counter isn't where they make their money, but compared to the selection of fresh seafood at CM or WF, it's a no-brainer. Just ask Jose (almost always behind the counter) what's fresh, and pick from the first 4-5 he lists. I've recently had rockfish, sea bass (sorry), trout, flounder and a sack of oysters back in season. Always fabulous.

My friend Diane used to be the acting manager of this place, maybe 5 years ago. I had always thought they didn't sell to the public since they looked like they didn't want anyone driving by to notice they were there. So I designed and built for them that giant awning/sign over the front door. So I guess I was wondering, did anyone notice it more after I did the sign?
I do love this place, great fresh seafood, and i usually just walk in and ask what's freshest. Hopefully they'll say it's something I've never had, then they'll suggest how to cook it and I'm on my way. Haven't been let down yet.
Interesting info: They actually sell soft shell crabs. Most of the time they're about $4 each, and they're asleep when you buy 'em, unlike those rowdy hard shell crabs that are all walking all over each other like a New Orleans drunk tank during Fat Tuesday. Have them show you the container they ship in. -

After several visits I can say that this is place has some of the best seafood I have ever seen, cooked with, or eaten.
