I came across Airboat Wildlife Adventures when searching for fun stuff to do in Central Florida. I was visiting the area near Sebring over Thanksgiving and to get a taste of the famous Florida swamps I came here with my gf and her siblings.
We booked a tour about 3 weeks in advance for 6 people. Unfortunately due to a family miss-hap 2 people had to drop out and so we had to call and change our reservation to 4. Then it started raining really heavily only about an hour before our tour so we thought we may have to cancel all together. We phoned up and the guy running the tours explained that in case it would start raining while we were out on the boat he would simply give us a free ride back. He was really friendly and accommodating.
Fortunately when we reached Arbuckle creek the sun was shining and it was lovely and warm. To reach the air boat dock we had to go through a small bar but the owner was very friendly and pointed us in the right direction.
Outside our boat was being prepped and we literally climbed aboard and took off into the swamps. Our tour guide and captain was trying to spot alligators for us. Unfortunately the season wasn't great to see them but nevertheless we spotted about 3 or 4 of them. We also saw white head eagles, turtles and plenty of herons and little birds. The swamps on Lake Istokpoga are really pretty and the ride along the Arbuckle river is also really cool. We didn't even have too many mosquito bites.
The air boat propeller is really loud so we had to wear ear protection provided to us but the ride was really smooth and a lot of fun. We even took a detour onto a little sand mound where the driver got off and took our picture with the boat. All in all this was a really fun and educational adventure out in the swamps. Highly recommended!
