Love views, volcanos, and vertigo? Then this is where it's at.
Quite simply, one of the amazing experiences I've ever had. I've always wanted to go up in a chopper, and this hour-long helicopter flight over Kauai did not disappoint. I scored the front right seat, so I was seated against sweeping panes of glass that gave me an unobstructed view of everything. Nothing quite like looking down at your foot and seeing a 3,000-foot-drop to the valley floor below.
It's been raining here all week, and part of our flight was through misty cloud banks that left droplets careening across the windows. The payoff for all this rainfall and reduced visibilty came in views of hundreds of frothy white cascades falling down verdant green fern-covered cliffs, some dropping thousands of feet before falling into the crashing sea. Red-dirt tinged rivers raged below. We flew through clouds, above jagged peaks, into canyons, and over beaches. I think I saw Gawd.
Air Kauai has a perfect safety record. Office operations were well organized and we had an on-time departure. The pilot was a steady, confidence-inspiring fellow with an unfortunate penchant for easy listening, but he had 23 years of flying experience and provided a smooth, safe, indescribably beautiful ride. Thank you, Warren and Air Kauai, for the trip of a lifetime. -

THIS COMPANY IS OUT OF BUSINESS AS OF MARCH 2009! Went bankrupt last year and all the helicopters are repo'd and gone. No longer in business on Kauai.
