The good
- my furniture was well protected and wasn't damaged (except below)
- they showed up on time
- they helped me move something otherwise difficult to move
- generally nice
The bad
- They added on fees left and right. 10% fuel surcharge for moving a half mile away. $150 extra for moving a TV. Double time price for driving. None mentioned over the phone when quoted. Quoted half of what it cost.
- They round up their time calculations. 2.5 hours moving out became 3. 10 minutes driving became 30. 1.25 hours moving in became 2.
- I found out later my roommates bed had been damaged because it was dragged
All in all, nearly $700 for a 2 bedroom apartment move approx 0.5 miles away. I don't mind paying a bit for service and I know manual labor's tough, but when i get hidden fees and fuzzy math when I'm in a bind or after services are rendered, I get pissed. Go elsewhere. -

Courteous, efficient, careful; these are qualities that set a moving company apart from the rest. Sadly, Air 1 Moving & Storage do not take these qualities to heart, let alone know what they mean.
Since my mood has managed to improve since they've left (which I didn't think it would), I'll keep it short and sweet. Fees. Fees everywhere. Don't trust anything the sales rep says over the phone - Shawn (the guy managing the operation) tacked on so many hidden fees that the original quote was almost doubled.
Thankfully for us, our operations director countered every fake fee he tried to push on us. It might be the cheapest around but buyer beware - it's not worth it.
TL;DR: this company will take a sh!t on your day and charge you heavily for it. Stay away! -

Awful. Avoid at all Costs. Worst moving experience EVER. We've reported them to the Better Business Bureau and will do everything we can to spread the word on how terrible their service is.
In the 3+ hours is took them to relocate our office of six people from Union Square to Soma we experienced the following:
*Late to appointment
*Attempted to add on fees for EVERYTHING (overage in time, materials, extra milage etc.)
*Refused to honor previously agreed upon contract
*Verbally combative when approached about discrepancies
*Halfway through with unpacking, refused to continue working until contract & payment were finalized
*Smelly
Please please please do your homework and avoid the inevitable fiasco with Air 1 Moving & Storage. -

WORST MOVING COMPANY EVER !!! They showed up 45 minutes late to start.
please don't contact this company because they will bring pain and trouble. I was only with the movers less than 1/2 hr before i asked them to leave for good. Terrible manners and far from professional. They raised their voices when I told them about the hidden prices , They told me up front that my place was huge and therefor they were going to take 6 or 7 hrs for a small one bath 2/ beds. They ad deed charges all over and told me that the job would cost me $ 800 or $ 900
i fired them on the spot and contacted another co that arrived four hrs late.
They new one finished in 4 hrs and the charge was $ 479.
I will NOT recommended this company to any one, what a nightmare !!! -

I'd rather get my 95 year old grandma to move furniture than let these guys swindle me again

Here is the deal.
Do not use this company for any moving needs!
My experience:
The company made a huge mistake on my reservation, telling the movers to come a day after I was expecting them to come. When I called to ask where they where the movers were- they realized there mistake but offered no compensation except to throw in the packing tape for free. That's it.
Movers used 6 of their own boxes and charged $150.0 extra for materials. When reminded of the discount for the tape they said they could not honor that because they were not aware of the discount.
Charged an extra $75.00 for one flight of stairs- even though they use the elevator in the building.
When they arrived to the destination they came 3 days before they were supposed to.
Charged an extra $400.00 because the route they chose dd not have clearance for a semi-truck and they had to switch to a smaller truck although there were several alternate routes they could have taken.
Horrible company. Horrible customer service.
considered yourself warned.
You've just been yelped in. -

I hate for my first post to be negative, but I feel it's my duty to share my horrible experience with others so they don't have to experience the same nigtmarish move that my husband and I endured with this company.
To summarize, the movers sent by this company were sneaky, dishonest, distructive and flat-out lazy, and the management is unprofessional, rude, evasive and dishonest.
Long story short, it took these guys more than 6 hours total to move an already-packed one bedroom apartment from the Marina to the Castro; they wrapped our white, Italian leather sofa in grease-stained blankets and ripped one corner from the seam; and they punched a 6-inch diameter hole in our entryway by slamming a foot of the couch into the wall...
Going through the claim process, we were met with unreturned calls, accusatory remarks (e.g. you have no respect for people who work with their hands) and lies. We are still fighting more than a month later to try and get reimbursed for some of the damage...
Please DO NOT use this company. I used them because they advertised at my JCC and I thought it would be cool to give my business to a Jewish company...I was wrong. Spread the word - these guys are crooks. -

**My first time using a moving company proves to be a bad experience!
So....I decided to use Air 1 after searching for what I thought to be a reputable company and looked into some different pricing. This company at first appeared to be not the least expensive and not the most expensive. I decided to go with a company that would be priced in the middle figuring great service without hassle, but was sorely mistaken.
Here's what went wrong:
1. I first received on online quote before calling to book. When i called to book, the person on the phone tried to charge me more than what the quote was for. I had to tell him about the quote I received which was $30 and hour less.
2.When I first booked with this company, I needed them at my one bedroom apartment at 2:00 which was guaranteed over the phone. I was then sent an e-mail confirmation of a 2-4:00 window which i was never told about.
3. You pay them by the hour, like any other company does. However, they first arrived at my NEW empty apartment for some reason and decided to start the clock. An hour later ( literally a 10 minute drive ) they arrived at my apartment. I didn't catch this until it was time to pay and he showed me that he made a phone call to my phone with the last number being incorrect. Looking at the paperwork they had, the number was listed correctly. ( I figured this was a scheme to try to charge me more. ) and anyway, why would you stop at an empty apartment first knowing the items to be moved would be at your second stop?
4. They arrived to my one bedroom apartment and told me that I had so many items and that I should have booked a third person. I am by no means a pack rat and S.F. Apartments are tiny as can be anyway. They had a suggested drop down menu on their website asking how many bedrooms you have and provide a suggested amount of helpers they think suitable. I followed their guidelines and was told I was incorrect.
5. They didn't protect my couch and it was delivered dirty. Two legs had to be removed from the bottom to fit it into one room, and the screw driver he had wasn't long enough to take them off. So...he decided to try to pry it off ( break it ) and I had to tell him to hold off until I could I purchase a longer phillips to do it the right way.
6. Packages marked Fragile were treated like any other boxes and thrown around. Many of our glasses ended up breaking in the process.
7. My wife had a few boxes with CD's in them with the top freely open. I caught one of the guys digging through them until he saw me glance at him as he pretended they had fallen out and was placing them back in.
8. In the end, the one doing much of the billing asked not if, but in what form of payment I would like to leave a tip??? As he was leaving, he made a comment outside, in front of my wife and the other two helpers that I wasn't leaving them a tip.....Should I feel obligated to leave a tip when I feel like I am being robbed?
9. I work for a very reputable company and field many praise and a few suggestion letters. I am very even keel in nature, and have never written about a poor experience I have had. I felt inclined to share with everyone why they should choose a different company when moving.
450 dollars later for a 3 1/2 hour move. I would be embarrassed to represent or work for this company in any way. I was surprised to see that there were only a few complaints on Yelp as well. It is also apparent that any 5 star rating is a sorry employee attempt at trying to maintain a better overal yelp rating on their website. I wasn't surprised to also see a complaint someone has placed with the BBB.
** I also noted that other poor ratings can be found by changing the city to San Jose where they're supposedly based out of.
