Great food and service. The interior is decorated very nicely. I love this place because they DELIVER!! That's really something special in Flemington!

The food itself is actually pretty decent most of the time, but the staff is rather rude.
I have ordered takeout many times, and dined in a few times. They are very inconsistent about substitutions. Depending on who answers the phone depends on the answers you get. Now I certainly understand that the owners and management have set ground rules, but there is no need to be so nasty about it. While I do think that there food really is of a slightly higher caliber than some other local Chinese places, I would rather take my business somewhere where I am greeted warmly, and make me feel like they actually value me as a patron. -

Not very good. Dry, under-stuffed sushi rolls. As expensive as any good sushi place.
So really not worth it. -

If you do not want to read the whole thing...have eaten inside once and gotten take out 5 times. Never bad, sometimes great usually just ok...if i could give them 3.5 that is what they would get
This place is right down the street from where i work/live. I had the take out orders all before i went there to dine.
We always ordered it when working so i got to try a lot of different items since we share. We always got sushi/sashimi or something along those lines.
Texture, flavor and freshness were great. I of course did not find every roll/piece to be "the best" but overall it was great.
My dinning in experience was pleasant. I went with my gf and my roommate. Me and the gf had sushi and it was OK. Not bad, but nothing special.
But where the surprise came from was my roommates dish. I am not sure exactly what the dish was but it was two large pieces of panko breaded chicken accompanied by one of the tasiest sweet and sour sauces i have ever had.
The service was average.
Bottom Line.....if you want sushi and live in flemington, Aikou will not leave you wanting your money back -

Aikou is my go-to spot for udon soup in Hunterdon County. It's not the best udon soup I've ever had - needs more spice, in my opinion - but it's pretty darned good. The shrimp and vegetable tempura are light and crisp, and the ginourmous soup is filled with more nice vegies.
I recently also tried the sashimi. A bit pricey, but very fresh - I was pleased.
Food 7 + ambiance 6 + value 7 + service 5 = overall 6.6 / 10 (good) -

We went here for lunch again and again the food was great. We had the New Age sashimi, which had a fantastic sauce on it. The lightly seared tuna in the dish was really nice, but the salmon in it was a little less nice. Next time I think I'd ask if they could make the dish with just the tuna. We also had some of the special rolls (one was called a Yummy Yummy roll, and I forget what the others were) and all of these were good, complicated, and unusual. I ordered shumai again, and again they were tasty. One of the ladies in our party hates seafood so she had the orange beef. I didn't taste it but she loved it.
The service still needs work--our server seemed like he hates his job, and he kept asking us if we were ready despite the fact that the entire table was still looking at the menu. I don't know what the rush was, since not all the tables were occupied. The food came out quickly, though, and unlike the last time they actually brought our starters out first.
In a big city I'd probably leave it at 4 stars, but since Aikou is head and shoulders above all the other Asian I've had in Flemington I'll bump it up to 5.Listed in: Good Things in New Jersey

The Good: The food is consistently excellent.
The Bad: Some of the waitstaff is unfriendly to the point of being cold, not just "business like."
My family and I go to Aikou on average probably 3 times a month. We all have a penchant for Asian cooking, and being that it is 15 mins away from our home and offers an array of different types of Asian food, we are loyal customers.
I've had beef lo mein, pad thai, miso soup, the house salad, sweet potato, shrimp tempura and california rolls, crispy thai red snapper, the tempura platter, chow fun, orange beef, general tso's chicken, sesame chicken, hot and sour soup - a ton of different dishes here, and I have been incredibly impressed with all of them. The plating is gorgeous, the atmosphere is lovely and quaint, the bathrooms are clean and beautiful - I LOVE this place. They don't have a large selection of drinks, but it's not a big complaint for me, because I usually get water or cranberry juice anyway.
The price is extremely reasonable, but here's a tip: Go for lunch. You get soup, salad, a small spring roll AND a fairly decent lunch sized entree all for around $15 a person, which I feel is an absolute bargain.
The waitstaff is generally fair, but there is one waiter here who I really do not care for at all. He refuses to look at you when you order, he snatches menus away like you've stolen them or something, he's curt and impolite and he never ever smiles. I would almost go out of the way to request NOT to have him as a waiter, just because his entire personality is so aggressive and harsh that he makes the experience a lot less enjoyable.
Aside from this one waiter, everyone else is reasonably pleasant and courteous. I do highly recommend Aikou because it is the food that matters most, and I will definitely continue to eat here as long as it is in business. -

Short Version: Tasty eats!
Long Version: What a great surprise. I dig this place, which is an Asian fusion restaurant in the middle of a shopping district. The food has always been very tasty, the service great, and the prices fair. I've been working my way through the menu and have never been disappointed. This place is great for a business lunch and a casual dinner. I highly recommend the pad thai. Check'em out! -

Nice atmosphere, great Japanese food, very poor Thai food. The Thai food is just not authentic.
Overall great experience just don't order the Thai food and you won't be disappointed. -

This is the best sushi in Flemington, which is not a particularly difficult feat, still, they do their thing well and are busy as a result. Love the avocado salad! Kids like their Chinese food dishes too.

Love aikou. Love the food, overly accommodating staff, atmosphere. Worth the wait when it's busy bc it blows the other sushi places in flemington out of the water. Check it out! Get the sweet potato roll!,

Really competent sushi. Good enough service. The right prices. If you are in the area and really want sushi, go here. No reason to go out of your way to come here, though.

I have been to this location a few times and it is definitely a nice addition to the Flemington dining scene. It is located in the "Staples" strip mall on 202-31. You usually don't have to wait at all for a table and the service is pretty good, except for when they are pretty empty and the servers are coming over to you every minute it feels like. I call this "too attentive servers".
The food is pretty good. I have had a number of the special rolls and do like their Tiger roll. The regular rolls (spicy tuna, yellowtail, etc.) are a little on the small side which is a little disappointing. Overall, it is definitely one of the better places to get sushi in the area. -

The service is what you would expect in a Chinese restaurant. They will rush you a little and be very business-like but that is part of the culture. Get over it. The food is excellent! For first timers, I would recommend the Dragon Roll and the Monster Roll. Both are "modern" sushi, with sauces and fried bits, but both are knock-out delicious. The other dish that is a must is the pineapple shrimp fired-rice. The avocado salad with sesame was nice as well. There is also a great soup there, although I can't remember the name, but it had seafood and was a Japanese-style soup. I cannot comment on the Chinese food there, I have never tried it. Bottom line is that, when we are in NJ, my wife requires a trip to Aikou.

This is by far one of my favorite Asian restaurants in Flemington. We take out and eat in there a lot. The staff is always very friendly and when we do eat in they are very good with children.
The food is fantastic. My favorite salad is the Avocado Salad, I order it every time! We've tried a lot of different things on the menu and haven't been disappointed yet. The only thing we haven't really liked is the miso soup.
This is a must try place! -

All hale the great and powerful Aikou (that was very sarcastic remark). At least that is the way they feel about themselves. We decided to go there for dinner and enjoy a good Asian food but what we got was very different experience. I have no idea how they managed it but the entire staff made us feel very unwelcome and insignificant. You could almost taste the distaste and general unwelcoming in the air. All they wanted is for us to eat our damn food and get out in a hurry. They got my wife's order wrong (I do not mean o boy we forgot to add extra sauce as you asked but rather we got you chicken instead of shrimp kind of thing.) The green tea they served was cold and bitter and I had to ask 3 times to get a fresh cup. The brought our main course way before we were done with appetizers.
In conclusion they have great potential but unless they load up on a little humility and train they staff better you better off ordering take out.1 Previous Review: Show all »

the girlfriend and i stopped in here after a meeting i had in flemington. what a surprise of a place in a strip mall! the miso soup start was EXCELLENT and the citrus ginger dressing on the house salad rocked. i got the pad thai beef and ordered it with spicy sauce on the side. i dumped the spicy sauce (which seemed like a mix of tamerind and sombaul) all over my entree. it was great. tender beef and fresh veggies. girlfriend got the mango chicken and cleaned her plate. the interior is decorated pretty awesome as well. if i lived closer i would definitely go back. oh and lou l., its not a chinese restaurant, it Thai, two different countries.
