It's been a few years since I wrote my review, and I thought I'd add an update. I had to have surgery twice since 2008, and both times Sunny Sensei and everyone at the dojo have been incredibly supportive. My knee surgery in 2009 took me off the mat for over six months. When I came back, I got nothing but support when I explained that my doctor had ordered me to take it really easy and that I was supposed to step off the mat for the night if I had any pain in my knees. Everyone encouraged me to be careful and take care of myself. One nice thing about Aikido is that there's plenty still to learn even if you can't take the huge falls! My skills have grown in leaps and bounds while I've been forced to move slowly and carefully.

I've been at other dojos where any admission of injury was a sign of weakness, but Aiki Zenshin isn't like that, and I am convinced that being able to do Aikido at a healthy pace has helped me recover from both surgeries.

Several years ago, my boys were enrolled in a karate school because I wanted them to learn discipline, self-control, self-defense, all the good things martial arts has to offer. The school they were at, however, only cared about promoting the "stars", who were a few kids who did really well at the meets.

So I took the boys out and fortuitously found Aiki Zenshin Dojo. I brought my brother there with me at first, as he has a black belt in Aikido, to get his opinion. He approved whole-heartedly, so we started there. The training is wonderful: cooperative and calm. Sunny Sensei is a fabulous teacher. The space is also amazing-it's clean and zen-like all the time! I like to just sit and read there while class is going on.

I'm so glad I found Aikido, and this dojo, as it is just the kind of martial art I want my kids involved in.

First of all, I really wanted my son to study a Martial Art that will teach him about self-discipline, self-control, self-defense, and also, to place him in an environment were everyone respect each other, and where there's "no tournament" that will intentionally hurt each other (which I don't like). So that's why I chose Aikido for my son.

I've been looking/visiting for a good/best Dojo for quite some time, and gladly I land into "Aiki Zenshin Dojo." To nurture a seed/plant, it has to be placed in a good environment and a care of a proper gardener, and to let my son learn Aikido, I would say that this Aiki Zenshin Dojo is the right one for him.

The environment of this Dojo inside & out is uncomparable with other Dojos that I've seen. Spacious, tidy, nice decors, clean atmosphere, and an environment where you can really feel peace and harmony just like in a good library. Also, to add some flavor, this Dojo has a fountain with Kois in it and some birds to entertain parents who choose to stay to watch their kids having some fun during the training. :-)

With the Sensei, all I can say is that Sunny Sensei is a good teacher. I've been observing him for a couple of months now (yes, I've been watching you Sunny Sensei, :-)), and I like the way how he teach and handles his Aikidoka kids. He do things in a right way, smooth way, and fun way, and that's why his Doka kids like him, and this also pertains to Chip Sensei, my son's Sensei on Mondays, whereas Sunny Sensei on Wednesdays.

My search for Dojo environment and the quality and personality of an Aikido Sensei has been answered by  "Aiki Zenshin Dojo," so my son will definitely be in this Dojo for a very long time...

I only attended this school for about three months and to tell you the truth I don't know aikido all that well as a martial artist.  I only quit because I studied karate for a long time, but couldn't find a school that fit my schedule.  This school is very nice, there is a good group of people that attend and instructors are good.  I would recommend this as a good place to study akido, but I can't really speak for the quality of the akido that is taught.

History

Established in 1992

Our dojo came into being through a group of dedicated aikido students who were training with Skys Sensei in a class offered through Fremont Community Services from 1989 - 1992.  These students wanted more training time and were instrumental in gathering the funding and providing the 'sweat labor' to open the doors on June 2, 1992.  We have been in the same location since that time.

Our dojo has been affiliated with the prestigious national organization, Aikido Schools of Ueshiba -- under the direction of Mitsugi Saotome Shihan and Hiroshi Ikeda Shihan, since 1997.
