my little girl has been going to this dojo for a little over a month now and both of us are extremely happy with the sensei and the overall environment.they really do focus on the spiritual aspect of aikido and i like this a lot. it is very relaxing each and every time i watch my girl practice and it keeps her grounded and adds a positive balance to our busy and sometimes hectic lives. i waited a while to get my daughter involved in an extracirricular activity, mainly due to my finances, but also because i always knew that i wanted her to be involved in something that taught more than just physical skills, i want her to pick up some life skills as well, and this center has delivered in that particular department. we will be coming here, i predict, for a long time to come.thanks for reading, all:)

Aikido Center Sacramento's  purpose is to teach the practice of Aikido to adults, teens and kids in alignment with the teachings of the founder, Ueshiba Morihei O Sensei (1883 - 1969).  Ueshiba Sensei taught that the essence of Aikido is the loving protection of all beings.  His teachings emphasize positive tools to transform the negative effects of hatred and violence through the power of love and compassion. Ueshiba O Sensei was a man of extraordinary love and compassion who created Aikido as a vehicle to awaken humanity to its true nature, which is love.  The Dojo , (Place of the Way), is a beautiful and vibrant home for a community of diverse, adventurous and exuberant people passionately practicing Aikido.  Aikido Center Sacramento welcomes people of all races, nationalities, gender, sexual orientation, and religion.  The dojo is located in Midtown Sacramento, on 21st Street between Broadway and X Streets. .

History

Established in 1995

Our dojo history starts January of 1995 in a small space between Bears Books and Esoteric Records across from the Capital Park on L Street. Within ten months its community had grown to 40 full time training students.

November of 1995 through September of 1996 The Aikido Center resided in a classroom at Sierra Two Center and a warehouse off of Highway 99 and 44th Avenue. Longtime students refer to the warehouse location as "Hell Dojo" for often it was cooler outside in the 100+-degree weather than inside. This period of time was much like the forging of a sword for its community and its Sensei. "Our commitment to this path was tested," says Matt Sensei. In September of 1996 Aikido Center Sacramento moved into its current location at 2417 21st Street. The dojo (place of the way) set down roots.

Meet the Business Owner: Matt F.

In 1995 after a period of deep immersion that culminated in the completion of a teaching apprenticeship, Matt, relocated to Sacramento, California and  created a dojo that is today Aikido Center Sacramento.  He has had the great opportunity to practice Aikido not only as a personal endeavor, but also as leader of a community of people aspiring to make manifest the profound principles of Aikido as taught by Ueshiba Morihei O Sensei.
