Review from Don S.
Colorado Springs, CO
Aiken Golf club is a leftover from the gilded age. This 18 hole, par 70 walk and cart club was built in 1912 in downtown Aiken. The semi-private course was designed by Donald Ross and remodeled by Jim McNair. The narrow course, with deep roughs, trees and undulated greens, is a true-shot-maker's dream. It ws the first club to offer a forward tee for women. Call for reservations and fees. Golf Digest awarded this club 3 1/2 Stars in 2008 and listed it on their Best Places to Play in America.
While it doesn't get quite the next door Palmetto Golf Club does(built in 1892), it is a great old school course that is a joy to play at a reasonable rate.
It has the feel of an old Irish course. Very walkable, nicely bunkered, narrow to make up for its short length. Just fun and a very welcoming test of golf.
