The Adobada Plate for a paltry $6.99 is typical of the amazing values here!

I've described the restaurant before so will not belabor the subject by wading through it again.

Adobada, for those of you who have never experienced its pleasures, is Pork chopped and marinated in a wonderful red oily Chili Sauce mixture usually with Oregano and Vinegar then grilled. The plate here comes with Shredded Lettuce with Chopped Cilantro and Onions topped with Guacamole as well as Aiberto's superb Refried Beans and Spanish Rice. Your choice of Flour or Corn Tortillas come with.

It amazes me that they can sell this quality and quantity of food for less than seven dollars.

Something I don't think I have addressed before, but bears mentioning, is their counter people are the best trained in this town. They make an earnest and genuine effort to establish a real human connection with their patrons. You don't get the pseudo-smiles and cookie-cutter greetings here that are standard at most counter-service places.

    Blech!

I should have stuck with my regular order.   I stopped here the other day and wanted something different than my usual carne asada burrito.  I wanted something -really- cheesy.  So I ordered a quesadilla with carne asada in it.  Three times I said I didn't want anything else in or on it.  Just cheese and meat, with the tortilla.

I got home with a box of quesadilla....and a soup of guacamole and sour cream.  GRAH!  I spent ten minutes trying to scrape melted sour cream off and out of my quesadilla.  Which kept falling apart, because there wasn't that much cheese in it.  There was a ton of carne asada, though, so I probably shouldn't be too upset, but I was wanting more cheese than anything else.  And the dousing of side stuff that I didn't was just horrible.

Now don't get me wrong...I fully intend to go back here again, and often.  I will just stick to my normal choice...carne asada burrito with cheese and, maybe, a cheese quesadilla on the side.  Depending on how much I want to eat, that can make two meals.  The portions remain huge and are generally delicious.  Just....when you get what you want.

    This is what I do:

I order the Camarones a la Diabla.  I go find a nice place to park (if I'm out and about) or head back down the street to my house.  I open the flour tortilla and red hot sauce.  Then I fill the tortilla with the delicious refried beans, lettuce, and hot sauce.  Alternating between bites of the rice and shrimp and my newly made burrito, I go to my happy place.

Aibertos is hands down my choice for quick, outstanding Mexican food.  I really should have written a review before, I certainly come here enough.

Stopped here on a return trip from Silver Falls due to previous reviews.  Definitely the best Mexican food I have had since moving to Oregon.  The two dinner specials for $9 really cannot be beat.  Regardless of the price, the food was plentiful and extremely satisfying.  If I lived closer, I most certainly would eat here everyday; it was that good.

I ordered the fajitas plate, which came covered in everything needed to fill the corn or flour (your choice) tortillas that were provided.  The refried beans were especially good as well.

There is a separate station with a wide variety of different sauces that you can take from as much as you wish.  The decor leaves something to be desired, but this in no way detracts from the food that is served.  I will be eating here again, even if I have no other reason to go to Salem.

Two separate trips here, both outstanding.

First up, the Pollo a la Diabla burrito ($3.99): spicy grilled chicken pieces, guacamole, onions, tomatoes, and cilantro in a large flour tortilla. The best part: they can customize the spice a bit more on the burrito (they upped the heat for me). Whoa wait, less than $4 for a fat burrito? Score!

I virtually blacked out from sheer foodie bliss. The moist chicken zapped a lightning bolt of flavor in my mouth. I've had a lot of burritos in my life, and I'm dead serious when I say I cannot recall having a better one. Combined with the onions, tomatoes, cilantro, and guacamole, this burrito was not only beautiful to look at, but I almost felt guilty for eating it -- almost. A perfectly steamed flour tortilla rounded out this epic experience. There was a little heat, but it's not overpowering. The burrito paired extremely well with Aiberto's spiciest hot sauce. The sauce possessed a smoky flavor that added even more flavor dimension.

This bad boy had some weight and girth on it! I still coulda eaten more than one of these. *looks down* (Shut up, stomach...no vote for you!)

I told the man running the register that I enjoy spicy food, so he let me sample a whole jalapeno with salt and a lime wedge. The pepper may have also been slightly blistered on the flattop or over direct heat. I coulda eaten ten more of those. Crunchy, with a little heat. The salt balanced the sour citrus lime flavors; the latter also proved refreshing on the palate.

Combination plates (entree with rice and beans) generally run from $6 to $7.50. The man at the counter highly recommended the Oregon burrito ($3.99) and the Lengua burrito ($4.30). People on Yelp rave about the carne asada. But seriously, you can't go wrong here...look at those menu prices!
    ____________________

Two weeks later, I went back to Aiberto's to try the breakfast menu. All breakfast burritos are $3.99, and there are daily breakfast burrito specials for $2.99. Dang.

Me: "So what's your most popular breakfast burrito?"
Owner: "Bacon. Bacon is the most popular."
Me: "Then I'll have one of those!"

Come on, shame on me. Bacon is unofficially meat crack. This portly burrito had diced bacon, french-fry strip potatoes, scrambled eggs, and melted shredded cheese. Everything was just perfectly incorporated and seasoned. Especially when paired with the same smoky hot sauce I had with my diabla burrito, all I needed was a napkin and a few minutes to polish the meal off. Simple seasoning and extremely satisfying, a great post-workout meal! Hooray for proteins, fats, and carbs! Heck, I braved the icy roads just to get to this place. And I'd do it again to get more.

Top-notch service on both visits. Oh, did I mention that Aiberto's is open 24 hours? And I don't live too far away. My stomach may hate me for being a mass glutton. Sorry, stomach, I don't care. This may be the place that finally gets me fat.

Aiberto's is touted as "San Diego's Best." No, I'm not from there, but I'm still inclined to agree. Hands down, the best Mexican restaurant I've been to. Holy burrito...thank you Aiberto's. Now I don't have to make a trip to San Diego just to get amazing Mexican food.

Best Mexican I've had in Oregon, hands down! The prices are good, the food is delicious, the staff is polite and friendly and did I mention the food is delicious? I prefer to get the spicy shredded chicken or carnitas, but pretty much every thing I've had there is fantastic. They have the best breakfast burritos (outside of Burrito Boy in Eugene) - their Oregon Burrito puts Muchas Gracias' to shame. Actually, all of their food does. I highly recommend this restaurant to anyone who enjoys authentic Mexican at a good price.

The food is mediocre, so the place's rating slides easily to the middle of the two-star mark.  But it's cheap.  And by cheap, I mean cheap.  Cheap, cheap, cheap, cheap.  Cheap.  Cheap.  Cheap.  Cheap.  Cheapcheapcheapcheap.

So cheap, in fact, that it's guaranteed three stars.

I've been wanting to review this place for a long time now.  I last visited in 2004, after a sort of spur-of-the-moment drive from San Francisco to Salem, Oregon.  If you've never made that trip before, beware; it's far!  And by far, I mean far.  Far, far--wait, I already did that.  Sorry.

So I've been wanting to review this place since I joined Yelp in 2008, but I couldn't remember what it was called, and originally, the pictures on its Yelp listing weren't very helpful.*  But then I asked my friend Kathy, who used to live in Salem, what the place was called, and she said she didn't remember except that she thought its name was missing an important consonant.  I did the Yelp search, and there it was:  Aibertos.  Not Alberto's or even Albertos, but Aibertos.

And you want to know why it's called Aibertos?

So do I, but I don't know, so I'm going to make up this apocryphal story:  When the people who wanted to turn a former Taco Bell (the old-school little-mission-with-the-bell kind) into a taqueria, they ordered a sign for their new business, Alberto's.  Except that each character cost them money, so they omitted the apostrophe to save money.  And when the sign came back, well, the sign makers had misspelled Albertos.  Alberto was furious and demanded a new sign be made, but the sign company offered the sign to him for half price if he would take it misspelled, and that, my friends, is the true origin of Aibertos's name.

It's so cheap.  I think there are non-side orders on the menu that cost less than $1.

*Yelp picture-takers, please pay more attention to what places look like and less attention to what the food looks like.  When I look at restaurant listings, I don't want to see 734 different pictures of the pad Thai; I want to see what the restaurant looks like inside and out so that either I can determine whether I've been there before or see how swanky or non-swanky it is because I may be coming alone or with guests.  Pictures of food are worthless.  Unless they're on Chinese-food menu boards.  Then they're priceless.

A lovely stroll down memory lane, this place must have some connection to the "Berto's" restaurants in San Diego that I so happily patronized as a carefree college student (with a much higher metabolism than today, alas).  At incredibly low prices, Aiberto's offers delicious, authentic Cali-Mex dishes including the best freakin' carnitas I've ever come across; lick the plate clean carne asada, yummy refritos (you can get them sans lard, but why would you bother?), fresh tortillas, homemade salsas...I could go on and on.  Everything we had was tasty, freshly prepared and authentic.  Even better, the three of us stuffed ourselves silly for about $13.

Now, most of my Yelp friends probably don't make it to Salem very often, but if you do, DO NOT miss an opportunity to eat at Aiberto's!

Muchas who? Aiberto's makes Muchas Gracias look barely competent. Ok, so neither of them would be considered high class Mexican food, but you have to realize that they are serving a particular niche... the somewhat-fast-food crowd without the sit-down restaurant lack of speed.

Anyway, I ordered the Oregon burrito. Just the burrito. Then I was asked if I wanted to make that a combo (it wasn't shown on the menu that way). Somewhat surprised, I said, "sure". I should not have done that. Don't get me wrong, Aiberto's did nothing wrong here. I did, and here's why:

THE BURRITO WAS AS BIG AS MY RIGHT THIGH.

So, yeah, take a 50-pound burrito and then add beans and rice? Why? What was I thinking? Silly me wanting a combo plate.

Anyway, the refried beans were really good, not your typical quick Mexi-food type of beans. The rice was pretty much standard fare, however it wasn't as dry (yay for a little moistness) as most. The burrito, well, it was pretty fantastic, too. And it all cost less than 5 bucks. I couldn't have bought the food and cooked it at home for that price, especially when you consider that the burrito alone could have fed the entire staff of Fred Meyer across the street. Heck, you'd have to rent a U-Haul to get the burrito over there.

Needless to say, I'll be back. I'm normally a sit-down-and-get-waited-on kind of restaurant-goer, but I'll certainly forego that preference for a meal at Aiberto's anytime.

I love this place and I dream about it day and night and I really wish I was joking. My favorite thing to get is the Carne Asada Fries with a Pina (pineapple) drink. I could never finish a whole one because their portions are SUPER generous!! Plus, you shouldn't be eating good food alone so I share with my boyfriend and we end up being full off on one item. The Oregon burrito is also tasty. I also like how they have their salsas and veggies arranged so you can pick the ones you like.

Great food. Really great service. Super friendly. Reasonably priced!

I think I just found my new favorite cheap Mexican food hangout.

Hubby, daughter and I decided to give Aibertos a try after listening to my friend Ed rant and rave about how delicious they are. I was pleasantly surprised at the fact that their tacos are not pre-formed shells and that the rice and beans are all home made. And for $9.99 you can get 2 combinations + 2 drinks! What a deal!! Their salsas are also pretty darn good.

I kept seeing people order this "Chimichanga" type of burrito and it looked so dang good!! That is what I will be ordering on my next visit.

The service was VERY fast and friendly. The girl at the counter was very kind and polite, even though she had about 10 folks in line! NOTHING like that "other place" I visited on Monday.

So...if your looking for a cheap tasty delicious Mexican meal at any time of the day or night, give Aibertos a try!! I will definitely be back, and SOON! =)

There are lots of deals here. Posted all over their windows - .99 cent fish tacos...really? That's my next conquering.

Ok first of all before you get too excited about the 4 stars keep in mind this is 4 stars for Salem...for what that's worth.

Overall this place was a pretty good taco shop - about on par with the world famous Filibertos!  The crunchy tacos were good - good seasoned beef (although I prefer ground beef tacos) and fresh crispy shells. The enchiladas...weren't quite what I was expecting which is usually an enchilada covered with melted cheese. In fact come to think of it....I'm guessing they don't have a way to melt cheese here because I didn't see melted cheese on anything. But nevertheless the enchilada was pretty good in it's own way.

I also had some guacamole and chips. The guac didn't seem very fresh and chunky. It was more soupy and runny. But surprisingly enough it was pretty good.

So overall not a bad place to go to get a cheap taco if you're in Salem. But doesn't rank on my list of Mexican places you HAVE to try.

Aiberto's, not to be confused with Alberto's, had to have been a former Muchas Gracias at some point as the menu is virtually identical.  But like Muchas Gracias, the food, the service, and the prices are fantastic and all this can be had 24 hours a day.

The area is about as downtrodden as it gets in Salem as there are endless potholes in the parking lot and shady characters walking around in the area.  Don't be surprised if lady street walkers stroll into the joint during all hours of the night scarfing on cheap Mexican food.

One of the big misconceptions of this place and all similar Muchas Gracias type places is that it is Mexican "fast food."  While there is a drive through and a franchised menu, the food is hardly fast.  I have had to wait 10 minutes in a drive through line (and even longer during the night) while they prepared the food.  Even though the food is greasy, it's the perfect compliment to a drunken late night out and satisfies any Mexican craving.

Aibertos in Salem gets my vote as the best Mexican restaurant in Oregon. The atmosphere is Spartan (Aibertos looks like it used to be drive through hamburger joint) but the food is absolutely outstanding. The meats are perfectly seasoned and the sauces are brilliantly prepared.

The menu is large and very imaginative. Some examples are the "Oregon Burrito" which is a flour tortilla stuffed with roast beef, potatoes, and fresh sauce. The taco salad is gigantic and to die for.

There is no wait service at Aibertos but the staff at the counter is very friendly, helpful, and willing to help you through the large and interesting menu.

Aibertos is Mexican food at it's very innovative best.

Love at first bite! Awesome prices and lunch/dinner specials. Authentic taco shop food from way down in SoCal where I grew up. The service is consistently friendly, they even come check on you to see if everything is to your liking. Always clean places to sit, we never wait too long for our food even when the place is packed (as it tends to be). Several different sauces to choose from, tasty carrots, fantastic Agua Frescas. I almost hate that they're open 24 hours because when midnight snack attacks strike I can't stop thinking about their rolled tacos. Yum yum yum.

Dear John S. from San Francisco... Well My name is Armando and I am the new owner of Aiberto's in Salem OR. well let me please help you with a little bit of information to help you to make a more fare judgement. Although we have freedom of speech and this is a free country...let me get you more up to date... I  have own this place since late 2008, so I am sorry for what you got before me in this place( bad service, bad food, ugly facilities, etc.etc.what ever it was) well I have done a lot of new and better things for this place to better serve my customers and have them come back again and again. Well to start we have a " 99 cents VALUE MENU" since almost 3 years ago, when I got this place back in 2008 I started a remodelation process, so every time people come in their's something new (better), I have 100 % bilingual cashiers so we wont miss understand what you want. The food it's tastes like home made, the portions are big and the prices are fare (kind of low but I'm ok with that) the name story it is far from been the real... back in the times there was a guy who started all the "Taco Shop" idea down in San Diego... he's name was Mr. Roberto (from Roberto's Taco Shop) his food got soooo popular that he expanded and opened up new locations, people wanted to succeed like he did and started to open new restaurants They name it "Alberto's" (with and L) then all kinds of names that ended with "...erto's"
(Aiberto's,Filiberto's, Aliberto's, Rigoberto's, and so and so...) well if you ever have a chance to go to San Diego you will realize that that's the way it is down there... However i invite you to come and give us a chance to try our food (the San Diego way)... it's kind of sad that we have to pay the price for what people did almost 7 years ago... well like I said please come and join us when you are around and then you can tell everybody what you thing about the new Aiberto's in Salem, "My Aiberto's"... thank you sooo much for taking your time to write a review of this place (Although it took you 7 years to do it) May the Lord Bless us all.
