Great sushi in a great setting!! The fatty salmon and white tuna are yum yum yum. They will customize your order and the staff is really friendly. The chef puts his heart into the sushi and it is fresh and tasty.

I'm used to upscale sushi restaurants in NYC with high end decor and a busy scene. So I brought my cousins from Cali here and at first I was a little sketchy due to the awning. And once we walked it, there was no one in there besides one employee.
It was too late to walk out since we were on our way to the airport so we just sat and enjoyed it.
http://Restaurant.com I got a $50 gift cert for FIVE DOLLARS! So we just splurged a little lol.
We ordered the gyoza to start. Large gyoza with the perfect pan sear on it. Good meat flavoring.
Next, we ordered oysters, which some where a little too large (not complaining) but others there like smaller than a penny for the kumamoto oysters. So sweet and they were surprisingly fresh!
We split a huge sashimi platter, and asked for more white tuna and was given more white tuna with it. So fresh and huge pieces of tuna. (The only worker was taking our drink order, cutting our sushi, serving us our plates, I think he was the owner!)
We also ordered salmon belly (so fatty and tender oh gosh I want more) and scallop sashimi. Everyone at my table enjoyed it, and just heard many mmm's sooo good!
Also cold house sake, and we ordered 2 large bottles and the owner (David I think he's the owner) gave us another round on the house. Very cool.
And oyster shooters in a champagne glass, was really good, I'm not a big fan of sea urchin but I took it out and shot the oyster, tobiko, and sake and it was yum! Then I ate the sea urchin lol.
Overall yummy, and I would totally go back again!!! -

I give them top ratings for their value and freshness. I love love love the rolls here! I've had sushi from Ai Passion 3 or 4 times over the past year and the food has been consistently fresh and tasty. I appreciate that they use very generous portions of fish for the rolls and sashimi.
Rating the rolls and sushi alone, I'd give them 5 stars. But I took off one for poor service and the un-authentic Thai food. The service is exceedingly slow. We had to wait over 30 mins for them to bring us 3 rolls. Though the Thai food on the menu is a good option to have if you want some variety, I would stick with the sushi items on the menu. -

Unfortunately I have to agree with the previous poster in terms of freshness.
We came here because like other posters, we got a http://Restaurant.com certificate. When we entered the restaurant, it was completely empty. As we ate, two other couples came in.
The menu has a variety of other cuisines, such as Chinese, Malaysian and Thai, which usually signals that their Japanese food isn't up to par.
We ordered the sashimi appetizer (6 pieces) and 3 rolls. Originally, hubby wanted to order the Kumamoto oysters, but I talked him out of it. And good thing I did since half of the sashimi was not fresh; hubby and I had to spit it out after one bite. I'm always iffy about ordering raw items in an empty restaurant, so it was a good thing that we only had the appetizer and not the sashimi entree.
The three rolls, although described differently, tasted the same. Same sauce, same ingredients, just slightly different meat (lobster versus crab, etc). What a disappointment.
We ordered $40 worth of food, used the $25 certificate and ended up paying $28 after tax and tip.
Wouldn't come back here again. -

First off, when I came here for dinner with my date on a weekend evening, the restaurant was near empty, save for one other table.
The staff here is awkward and a bit creepy. Our server was inarticulate, and the rest of the waiters stood a few feet away and just looked at you while you ate.
I ordered some sashimi, and I must say, it was half edible, and half not. Some pieces were fishy and mushy-- I had to spit it out immediately after tasting it! Other slices tasted alright...
Although the food was more or less edible and decently priced, I felt pretty uncomfortable eating there, and the atmosphere was just very weird without many other customers.
Another downside: they added 20% tip to our bill... -

I'm a cheap bastard, so when http://www.restaurant.com had their 90% off sale on thei $25 gift certificates, I jumped on the chance to live it up at a discounted price. I didn't see any reviews of Ai Passion anywhere on Yelp, CitySearch, Google, Yahoo, or Zagat, so It hought it was going to blow big time.
I was amazed at the quality of sushi here. If you've ever been to Mickey's on Bell Blvd, then you know what fresh fish is. The fish melts in your mouth. No membranes. No fishy smell. Just milky silky smooth sashimi. If you're in the neighborhood, and crave serious sushi, this is the place to go.
They also have lunch specials on Saturdays, so if you're as cheap as I am, that's when you should hit this place up. Otherwise you'd be paying regular Japanese restaurant prices. It's good when you're impressing a girl, but when you're married, there's no point. -

Got a great deal from Groupon, so we tried this place out. We were very impressed. Just across the street from my fave bagel joint Utopia Bagels.
Everything we had was great. Four Sushi rolls, shumai, a fried cheese and chicken appetizer. Good amount of kitchen selections here as well. Food was very reasonably priced, and the service was excellent.
We would definitely go back. -

Why isn't this place busier?? Their Hawaiian sushi plate was one of the best things we've ever eaten! We can't wait to have it again. The owner doubles as the sushi chef and he is obviously well trained at his craft. He puts together sushi plates better than most...imaginative and delicious. This place is a must on anyone's list of sushi restaurants. It would be nice to see them get the recognition they deserve.

Had a dinner date with my husband here. We had a http://restaurant.com certificate but I forgot to give it to the waiter in the beginning so I gave it to him in the end. He refused to take it and started to give us a nasty attitude. Meanwhile, I saw the waitress taking a http://restaurant.com certificate from another table at the end of their dinner. (So Unfair!) They were so embarrassing to us. They were speaking loudly and telling us they cant take it because it was at the end of dinner and they will get accuse for taking money(they made no sense at all). I would not go back to this place and I don't recommend it!!! I wish I dont even have to click on this star because it sucks!

Same as the other reviewer I got a http://restaurant.com coupon uinder 90% off. Me and my friend got Passion roll A, Passion roll B, Curry Puffs, a salad and a miso soup, a beef pad thai. All for 26 dollars tax and tip included after the discount. Great food for such a discount. The restaurant also looks pretty good from the interior. The only thing I found funny was the Manager/Owner was the waiter.

Our favorite local eatery since it opened several years ago. Kelly Chan and her companion David are the hardworking owners who double as the wait staff. Their Asian Fusion cuisine is inspired and well conceived and presented. The sushi is fresh, fanciful and filling. This may be a bit off the beaten path in a residential neighborhood on the Whitestone/Bayside border, but that makes it a good bet for on street parking. A real find for those in the know. Even our friends from out-of-town always want to be taken there for dinner when they come to visit me. Well worth discovering!
