What amazing sushi!!  The salmon is to die for.  I never liked salmon until I came to Ahi Sushi.  They offered truffle oil on one of the pieces and I nearly fell out of my chair.  Not to mention their live uni.  WOW!!

The staff are amazing and very caring.  I sit down and know their names and they know mine.  They take care of me and always recommend the best dishes.

Jimmy, the owner, is a kind hearted caring man, who only wants you to have the best experience.  I cannot go to any other sushi restaurant now, as I have been absolutely spoiled.

I highly recommend sitting at the bar, asking the chef what they recommend and experience sushi like you have never before.

    Thank you Ahi Sushi!!!

This is the best sushi I have ever eaten!  Since coming here, I cannot eat anywhere else.  I am so spoiled.  Their fish is fresh, and if you just ask the sushi chef what they recommend, you will get a delicious amazing dish that you wouldn't think of trying.

My girlfriend and I come here at least once a week now.

In regards to the service, they are like family to us now.  Each employee is very sweet and gives you attention like you are their best guest.  The owner, Jimmy, is such an amazing man, and runs his restaurant like a family as well.

I recommend Ahi sushi to anyone... especially the salmon with truffle oil!  To die for!  And their live sea urchin (uni) no words.  Thank you for making my sushi experience the best!!

This place is not suitable for large groups. They had to squish us all onto the patio wedged between the planters and they didn't even turn on the heat lamps. We were here for dinner. The tables were rocking up and down, and I didn't even want to set my drink down because I didn't want to end up wearing it.  Our friend literally crawled under the table to fix it with a menu.  Then with us all squished there was no room for the server/foodrunner to serve the other party whose table was next to us; we were blocking anyone from entering or exiting. Fire hazard anyone?

The sushi quality is sub par. Didn't taste fresh at all or like they put any real effort into it.  There are more hot food/cooked items than there are sushi offerings.  Another friend really wanted to try one of the soups on the menu and the server basically said everything but "It's fkn disgusting; do NOT order it" in order to dissuade him.  Hmm, if it's not great then why is it still on the menu?

I did really like the yellow tail collar but it was so expensive and hardly anything on the plate.  The veggies on nephew's teriyaki plate were overcooked. Spicy tuna rolls were wrapped a little loosely and were very small. Friend ordered BSC (scallops?) which came out under cooked and she couldn't eat them. BF ordered an assorted sushi plate which came out on a huge white platter taking up most of the space on the table. He thought it was decent but lacked any flavor.

The prices are astronomical. Dinner for nine was $300 for 6 adults (1 of whom is pregnant - so no sushi, and 1 of whom was sick - so barely ate anything) and 3 kids (2 of whom shared an entree).  No one ordered any alcohol and almost everyone drank water.  There are no soda refills as they used canned soda, so forget about getting a free 2nd diet Coke ;)

They also brought out the kids' food LAST!  There is nothing more disappointing for a hungry kid than to sit around waiting for their food while some of the (rude!) adults are happily chowing down on their own food.

Parking lot is small, and there is a weird drive-through lane that isn't even wide enough for a standard size car to fit through to exit onto Ventura Blvd.

Would not return. Do not recommend.

I ordered some rolls through http://Eat24Hours.com, wanting to stay in on a rainy Sunday and try a new place that's a bit closer than Yuzu, my favorite sushi on earth in Toluca Lake.

I ordered a spicy tuna, a cali roll, a bagel roll (salmon and cream cheese), a chilean sea bass roll and a shrimp tempura and spicy tuna roll.

The prices are pretty high for something this blah and average. The cali roll has that imitation crab taste, which drives me nuts, and the chilean sea bass is ok but nowhere near as amazing as it is at Yuzu. I've even baked chilean sea bass at home and had it come out more flavorful than this. The other rolls are all very unimpressive, not one moment of taking a bite and thinking "wow, this is tasty."

When I order anything at Yuzu, I am blown away time and again by the freshness and amazing flavors,I mean  every single time. This wasn't fishy or bad, per se, but it tastes like sushi chain caliber food with prices that are way beyond that. I expected more and I won't order here again.

Ahi sushi is FANTASTIC, i will most definitely be ordering more from here, the atmosphere is great, the employees and management couldn't be any friendlier.  Suitable for big parties as well.  And the food, well the food is to die for ! The Lobster Roll has to be the most amazing roll i have ever tried ANYWHERE ! albacore sashimi is a MUST, they have a Great Crudo menu. If money is an issue try HAPPY HOUR MONDAY - FRIDAY 4PM-6PM. i would recommend Ahi Sushi to any one of my friends. Having a bad day? no problem order delivery !

For me to give a 1 star review is a rarity and OMG does Ahi Sushi deserve it! I ordered lunch to be delivered through eat24 on an early Friday afternoon. My tab was $95 with the combo I ordered priced at $33.50. So everything seemed fine till I started eating the spicy tuna. It's spicy tuna, basic, I've eaten it 100's of times before including a few at Ahi. But as I ate the 2nd piece it just didn't taste right. Other peeps in my party tasted it and said the same thing, there was something off with it. Everything else was fine but the tuna. And wouldn't ya know it, within an hour I was puking my guts out. After several hours of feeling like hell I realized I needed to call the restaurant and let them know there's prob with the tuna before they start serving dinner. So I called and was told none of the owners were available but they'd have the chef check the tuna asap, apologized profusely and assured me an owner and/or manger would get back to me immediately. So Saturday rolls around and I'm still super sick and now dehydrated. I drag myself to see a doc and unshockingly they tell me I have food poisoning. I go back home try to rest and start getting pissed that no one ever called me from Ahi as promised. So I call again, explain my situation and request to speak with an owner. This time I'm told I just missed them, they're out for the night. So I stay rested for the weekend finally feeling better around Sunday night and as you could of guessed I never received a call from Ahi. So finally Monday afternoon rolls around and a woman calls. She's not friendly, not concerned, just annoyed she had to make the call. Now I'm a pretty mello girl and know stuff like this happens, I understand that. So I politely tell her what happened and all I'd really like was a refund for my meal, just what I ordered, not the whole tab. Well, no "I'm sorry" or even a "hope you're better now". What I got was no. Just no. I ask "no what" and she says "no refund, it was probably just too spicy for you". Ummmmm, WTF?!?!?! I responded calmly and stated I was medically treated for food poisoning and all I'm asking for is my portion of the bill to be refunded, $33.50. She hmmms and haaaaas for a bit then says the best she can do is $5.00!!! Five dollars for a weekend of food poisoning and HORRIBLE customer service. After an hour of arguing with her she finally offered $15 to which I said fine as I was tired of dealing with her. The good thing is I called eat24 and told them what happened. They were shocked at her response and immediately refunded the entire $95 meal. I've eaten all over the world and never have I had such a bad experience as I did with Ahi Sushi. So please, save yourself a wasted weekend of food poisoning and pick from the hundreds of others places to eat on Ventura.

Nice happy hour!  Got too many little things to list, but the highlights were the $2 beer, tsunomonu, and spicy tuna. I usually dislike spicy tuna because most places just cut up their leftover tuna pieces, mask the chewiness with mayo/chili, and dish it out. This place had very little of that and a lot o good quality tuna.

My only beef with the place was how heavy they market their realisted fish (bluefin, yellowtail, etc). I don't min places that serve it, but I do mind places that highlight it.

The non-happy hour menu is a bit pricey for me.

I'm being very generous by giving Ahi Sushi 2 stars. VERY generous!
The sushi tasted very fishy, which usually means the fish is no longer fresh.
I forgot the name of the rolls we got, but it had to do with tuna, albacore and salmon all of which were disappointing.
I was also really disappointed to find out they didnt have toro on board.
    Boo!

So disappointed to write this review - Ahi has been our special occasion restaurant for a few years now.  We could always count on tasty fresh fish and pleasant service.  Because of the prices, we only went once every month or two.

We took out of town guests there Monday night for dinner and we were embarrassed by the service and food quality.  The "special" rolls were definitely goopy.  Too much sauce always makes me suspicious in a sushi restaurant.  We were there for dinner at 7 and they were already out of our favorite board special. The pieces of fish were markedly smaller on the regular sushi orders.  Worst of all, it took us two hours to finish our meal because we had such poor service. They never once refilled our tea or water and the waitress never came to check on us.  The only time she came to our table is when we were successful at waving her down (which was about 3 times in 2 hours).

We will not be in a hurry to go back -- but will try some of the many other sushi restaurants in the neighborhood.

Good for dinner, their takeout menu looks intriguing if you live nearby. Especially if you are a delivery/takeout whore like moi.
Nothing mind blowing, the lobster roll was tasty but a tad too creamy. Sashimi very fresh, good sign. The spicy miso soup was yum but spicy (even though I asked for mild, spicy must be insanity).
Good find, especially since Yen across the street next to coffee bean apparently became the new hotspot for Friday night...
(Yen is a total lunch place btw)
Come Again! Yes, we will, but no sitting on the patio by the bus stop next time.

There is plenty of parking in the back and side. We always go before the dinner rush. We get seated quickly and get served even faster. I love the Spanish Mackerel here..a little sea salt and lemon!! a winner.

Good food no doubt, but first of all, one star off for serving Foie Gras period. Good thing they didn't put odorless, tasteless gold on anything or that would be 2 stars off for being gourmet dumb asses.

But I digress... the food was tasty and well prepared but paying $23 for a small portion of Chirashi or 24 for a Tempura dinner is way too much in my book especially when the quality of ingredients seemed no better than say Midori down the street where $30 would get me all I can eat sushi.

So other than feeling overcharged the pace was decent. Nice decor, but the wait staff could have been more attentive (the bus boy was the only one really paying attention).

I've been back twice since I wrote my initial review only a month ago, and both times I left satisfied and happy. The first time I went back was at the tail end of DineLA and I shared the 8-piece sashimi platter and mango crab roll with my friend. The roll was a mistake. It was too big, too sweet, and the imitation krab was gritty and unappetizing. The sashimi platter, however, was again freaking delicious. I wish we got 2 of those instead.

The second time I went back, I got the 3-item lunch combo with spicy chicken tempura, albacore sashimi, and spicy tuna roll. The combo also comes with miso, rice, and a little dish of sunomono, which looked like regurgitated cucumber bits, but tasted good. Everything was delicious and there was so much food I could barely finish it all. I'm definitely coming back for more lunch combos!

Note: It's $12.50 for a 2-item combo and 14.50 for a 3-item combo. It's a TON of food and there are lots of items to choose from. Also beware that service is pretty slow (even though there is usually no one else there) so budget your time accordingly.

We came to here for dinner this weekend and me and my friends all love this place and think this Sushi restaurant it's more than 3.5 stars.

The service was fantastic and the food was authentic and very creative. Unlike the other Sushi restaurants, Ahi keeps the flavor of Japanese food and the food was surprisingly fresh.

A little pricy maybe, but very delicious and worth to visit. We will definitely visit again and recommend this restaurant to our friends.

Came here for lunch during dineLA. My expectations were pretty low since it was only $16/person, but I was pleasantly surprised. The food here is really fresh and the service is good. I really liked the Crispy Rice Albacore Roll and the Mango Crab Salad Roll. I've been seeing a lot of crispy rice dishes recently, but they're always made with spicy tuna. I liked how this roll was different. The albacore roll came with crispy onions that were lightly fried and salted, and everything went well together. The crab roll was light and refreshing. The mango was a nice addition, and I loved the soy paper and the presentation.

There's a ton of sushi places around Ventura (I believe it's referred to as 'sushi row'), but it's nice to know that this one is good. :)

4.5 really.  It's a bit pricey and the servings are small.  I love real, fresh, and sublime sushi from a famed Sushi Chef, but I also love a 4x4 from In N' Out Burger so I NEED larger portions.

But on a night I'm in Studio City and I'm not starved, I'll hit up this wonderful sushi joint.

Some highlights of my many visits
    * Orange Clam Sashimi - Holy hell this was better than Brothers in Woodland Hills even.
    * Giant Clam/MIrugai - is always good
    * Salmon is Scottish (the best) and comes with a drop of truffle oil.  Genius!
    * Ankimo Hand Roll - tastes like I died and gone to heaven, and probably is contributing to my near death as doctor's orders say NO MORE liver but this was something else.
    * Chef's Sashimi is subtle and delightful (again small)

If your wallet is endless, then you can have quite a lovely feast here.

I recently began this mission to eat at all the sushi restaurants on Ventura. So my first stop, as I drive south down Coldwater and make a right, is Ahi Sushi.

I go here by myself (it is sad being single) and sit at the bar. I look at the menu and order whatever fish look good. I start talking to the one of the guys making sushi in front of me and he recommends things here and there for me. It was otherwise a quiet dinner.

The freshness was amazing. The quality of the fish is undoubtedly good. The menu offerings are simple and to the point. Nothing crazy creative but definitely not boring. Typical in decor and offerings, but stresses quality and a good dinner.

Service was good. The waitress was attentive to me along with the guy in front of me. I just had to look up and say what I needed. The dining room wasn't particularly busy, so I was seated immediately.

Parking was wonderfully convenient with a lot that had an attendant. No annoying and exorbitant valets, and a nice large lot that accommodated this restaurant and its adjacent one quite well.

Price: I ended up paying 70$ for a lot of fresh sushi and a beer and green tea ice cream. Everything was good and well worth it. I would return to this restaurant; it doesn't rock my socks but it seems to be consistent and hits the spot where it is needed most. I would probably pay more attention to what I am ordering too.

So after the first stop on my journey, I realize one thing: this is going to be a pricey journey :)

Not impressed at all... I really thought I found another sushi place I may like and I won't be returning, so sad because it was SO expensive. We got the spicy tuna on crispy rice, crispy halibut which was good but nothing great. I'm so sad about this I lost my appetite half way through the meal and it took an hour to arrive so it wasn't exactly warm or fresh tasting =/ Maybe going in is better?

Came here for Dine LA January 2011. I've dined here before and have loved their sushi. So fresh! But I decided to try something different this time. So I got:

Appetizer: Crispy Halibut Roll - Spicy Tuna Wrapped with Halibut and Japanese Mint Leaf, lightly fried - This was my favorite of the three courses. Japanese mint leaf tempura? Unheard of. But delicious! And the halibut and spicy tuna sushi tempura was yummy!!

Entree: Grilled Chilean Seabass with Vegetables - I've had better. The portions were small, the seabass was too salty, and the veggies were drenched with butter.

Dessert: Guava Sorbet - the menu said lychee sorbet, but they ran out. So the server gave me guava sorbet. It was...eh. It actually didn't even taste like guava.

My Dine LA experiene was more like 3 1/2 stars, but I rounded up to 4 since I know how good their sushi is.

Also, there's no changing table inside the restroom.

Super awesome! This is a sushi bar. If you want spicy tuna or some other lame assed roll, go to Midori or some other low end dump. The service is great, the quality of the fish is great, the sake selection is great! Yeah, it is expensive, but you get what you pay for. If you want cheap go to the mall. Quit whining people. "The table rocked," "It is not suitable for large groups," "the bagel roll..." Seriously? Holy crap! The service is awesome! If you get lucky enough to be there when they are serving live uni, you would be a fool to pass this up. Bottom line, this place rocks!

Service was good, fish was fresh, and the beer was cold.

You must try the salmon nigiri with truffle oil, holy moly donut shop! Also, the lobster roll is pretty bomb as well. One thing, if you do not like a ton of mayonnaise I would advise staying away from the mussels, they were drenched in mayo. I also had the salmon sampler which had 3-4 different types of salmon, all were excellent.

Oh how I love good sushi. Who doesn't? Several days ago I was on my way to see a friend and he asked to pick up some sushi on the way. He ordered from Ahi Sushi and I picked it up.It was five huge bags and $184.00 (includes $10tip). Waiting for the bagging and processing of our order, I sized up the place with Yelp in mind. Cozy, real Japanese sushi chef's behind the counter. Clean modern decor and very inviting. The valet gave me no problems as I was just picking up, so he directed me to park on the side of the building giving me great access and convenience. Since I had about six pounds of food, I was assisted out to my car.

My friend's daughter and I set the table and waited for my friend who was on the phone. My mouth was watering as it was already about 9pm and a good eight hours since lunch. Ah! I couldn't wait. I nibbled on the salad. It was fresh and very tasty.

Finally we all began to eat. We managed to put a dent in the massive array of fresh cooked and tenderly glazed salmon, bass, lobster, mushroom and veggie tempura, miso soup, steamed rice and salad. We also had sushi, California and rainbow rolls etc. on a tray the size of a large pizza. It was delectable.

We ate about half of our order and had to put the rest in the fridge. Putting the chopsticks down was harder than resisting a nibble during the drive to the house with all that food in my car, but I had to admit to myself that I was indeed full. There were four Styrofoam containers of fish not yet eaten, and the tempura was barely touched.

The next morning, I got a call to go help finish the food. I drove over for lunch and we ate almost all that was left over. All in all, it was excellent food, well seasoned and prepared. Perhaps it was a bit costly, but we didn't really need to order that much food. I highly recommend the tempura (with lobster) and all the sushi and rolls were great. Glazed salmon comes with nicely grilled carrots and asparagus spears with slightly blackened grill burn marks ( I love that!) and I can't complain about any particular food item.

Nice spot in the Valley for those sushi cravings. I will go back!

    I absolutely Love Ahi Sushi!

I went here with a friend and of course we had to order the albacore sashimi with crispy onions! This dish was amazing on its own! I believe the chef actually cooked the onions at the bar and poured it on top of the sashimi, what ever it maybe it was delicious!

I just know that I would def. go back whenever I can!

    Happy eating! =]

Sushi on a Saturday afternoon is always a sketch notion if you ask me, but when you are craving it like a true sushi ho, well, sometimes you just have to give in and hope for the best.

On this particular jones, we decided to score at Ahi Sushi and overall, well, it was just kinda okay. There were a few highlights, but for the price tag and the quality, I can't say I would rush back.

The yellowtail belly, as stated in the other reviews, was good, not mind-blowing, but good. The miso marinated black cod, again was good, but not exceptional (for exceptional, try the one at Yoshi Sushi in WeHo) and the rest was just really average.

    What we tried:
    Scallop handroll
    albacore sushi
    ankimo
    creamy salmon handroll
    spicy tuna handroll
    red dragon roll

    Plus:
a bottle of the Nigori sake and a bottle of the Kikusui Sake (this is always good)

Now for the questions I always ask myself...
    Would I rush back? No
Would I go back? Not if there were other options
    Would I recommend it? Sure
To who? To anyone who isn't a sushi snob. If you are, you will be bummed and for a $100 bill for 2 people, I could have gone to Yoshi and found Sushi Heaven for less.

    But hey, that's just me.

    Great sushi, okay value.

Ahi has good food and good presentation, including for take-out, but it's a little pricey. Fish is fresh, however, and preparation is reliable. I will be a regular and shrug off the overspending with every delicious bite.
