Erika at Ahead of Style has been doing my hair for a few years now and she does a great job! I never worry about what's going to happen when I go in there. It is a trek out there from SE Portland but I am lucky it happens to be across the street from my Wednesday office so I can sneak across and get pampered for a couple hours and then return to work!
The atmosphere is relaxed and inviting and I recommend it to all! -

For the last month or so my hair has been very angry. It would scream and cry every day and it never wanted to leave the house. It wanted a cut and it's roots were showing so much that it felt naked. I did feel bad for my hair but I couldn't help it on my own. Enter: Stacy!
Stacy at Ahead of Style in Hillsboro is definitely worth the trek from the city. She's adorable and fun and so willing to stay past nine at night to make sure my hair looks perfect. She's very knowledgeable about coloring and bleaching and even made my hair look pretty after I'd put four different box colors on it in a two week span. That's talent!
Ahead of Style did loose a star in my book for being way out in Hillsboro and for being kinda spendy, but that is coming from a girl who used to go to great clips and die her own hair at home.
Today my hair is so happy! It's dancing around on my head. It's got a fresh new cut that's oh so flattering and so many pretty colors. My hair loves Stacy. It would marry her if she didn't already have a husband. -

When it comes to getting a decent haircut I look for attentive hair designers. Someone who will listen to my ideas, and feel comfortable enough to pitch their own. Some one who tells me what they are going to do before they do it. And someone who can put me at ease--letting me know that I won't walk out of the salon looking like a freak.
In my entire life I can only think of one bad haircut, and I was in New York and the hair stylist did not listen to me. I walked out of the salon looking like a girl from the MOD Squad. I hated it--it was fixable but frustrating to think that I was paying someone to NOT listen to me and to mess up my hair.
At Ahead of Style, that's not the case. They listen to you and work with your ideas when it comes to your hair. Susan was my hair stylist for about 4-5 years and I loved her. She was sassy, but kept things simple. The first time I had her, I didn't even say words--just motioned my hands around my head and made some noises that suggested a haircut. She nodded and said, "I think I got it," The next thing i know my hair is just the way i want it. Different, but not crazy.
Unfortunately, she isn't there anymore but I still enjoy going back to Ahead of Style for a good haircut. Which includes a conversation about my hair. -

I have been a huge fan of Melinda, a stylist and new owner of Ahead of Style for a very long time! In fact, I followed her to this location and, as one of the other reviewers said, thought OMG this salon is way out in the country! However, rather than dislike the journey I have found it as part of the wonderful destination. Located in a peace-filled re-done home, it is wonderful to sit down and relax away from the hustle and bustle of an in-town salon. All of the stylists are personable and caring and offer services you would find at a much more expensive and "frantic" shop. If you are having a special day in your life you could certainly be pampered from head-to-toe at Ahead of Style. I would recommend them to anyone!.
