Review from Robert U.
This place is like the Twilight Zone. First, I have to mention that the staff were friendly. Otherwise, I found this cafe rather uncomfortable. I'm the kind of guy who comes to cafes to read books and study and as far as I could see, most folks who frequent Agua Java come here to munch on chips and chat. In fact, over the four hours I spent in this cafe, I was the only person who had brought a book. And I'm nearly certain that I was the only person who had come alone.
If you are looking for a place to grab a bite with a friend and sip on some decent coffee, then Agua Java is not so bad. However, if you don't drink coffee or desire a beverage different from coke, diet coke, or bottled water (as these are the only kinds of drinks that fill the refrigerated display case of beverages) you may need to try a different cafe.
Coming back to my reference of the Twilight Zone, between my reading and note-taking, I intermittently raised my head to find other patrons of Agua Java vapidly staring at me.
Indeed my books seemed foreign. But really? You walk into a cafe in Austin or anywhere else for that matter and what I was doing would be considered normal, even expected. Obviously these people don't read books in public. They're too busy deciding whether to drink coke or diet coke. Decisions, decisions.
What's more, the bathrooms in this place were straight out of a Saw movie. The walls were spattered in brown and olive paint, which was all too reminiscent of the function of a bathroom in the first place. What is there really to say, really? It was dirty. The fixtures were not clean.
I noticed that cops like to frequent this place and they aren't shy to rest a hand on their halter and give a Sherrifff's look around the place.
In short, if you're looking for chips and can face the terribly difficult choice between coke and diet coke in a can, perhaps Agua Java isn't so bad. But if you plan on coming here alone, albeit to work, study, or pass some time, you can expect to be alienated by fellow patrons staring at you, cops surveying the premises, or hicks bantering loudly about their daily affairs. -

Despite the hip decor (oscillating fans and coffee bean bags) this is your average independent coffee shop. The folks behind the counter always seemed a bit distracted (sounds friendlier than aloof). Not once did we get a "good morning" or a "have a great day" from any of them It is however one of your only options in this part of CC.
The coffee is decent and the pastries are just OK. The kolaches were some of the best I've eaten.
Overall it's a solid place to get a cup of joe. -

I remember trying this place for an afternoon pick me up cup of coffee long before I moved to Corpus Christi. It was during a TRAPS conference in Corpus that I attended and discovered both Aqua Java and the Surf Club all while walking around downtown looking for a bite to eat for lunch in between sessions.
Since then, I have been back a several times. I'll be the first to admit that it isn't my first choice, partially because I don't live downtown and there is now a fairly good coffee choice on campus; however, when I am down that way in the morning, I am usually pleased when I stop in.
A downfall...The hours of operations. Unless it's changed and I'm not aware of it, the hours are not great for me to come downtown to sit and read or work. -

I always stop by Agua Java when I'm in Corpus. It's right off the freeway when you come into town off the big scary bridge, so it's like a little reward for surviving the trip! That also means that it's right on the way out of town too for that On-the-road boost you need to get you going.
The coffee is great here! They fix it up anyway you'd like it, and they don't make snooty faces at you when you ask to customize something. They even offer Abuelita Hot Chocolate and a variety of tease for those non-coffee drinkers.
They have great food, sandwiches and stuff, but especially their pastries. The snickerdoodles are the best ever. Anywhere! I stretched outside of my normal comfort zone and tried the crinkle cookies - yummy chocolate goodness coated in powdered sugar!! OH yeah! And a cranberry orange scone - mmm flaky and moist. Good stuff, I tell ya. -

We were in Corpus Christi for a quick weekend trip back in April. We were travelling with a couple who had been before and recommended Agua Java for breakfast the morning we were leaving.
I love how cute the place is! It's tucked back a little bit and has a great outdoor eating area. I got the Mexicali but added egg to it. It was still early, around 10:30ish, and I wanted something breakfasty. My fiancee thought I was gross but in the end I'm glad I did it!
They had a case full of pastries, muffins and kolaches (that sold out while we were there). The entire time I was eyeing a cinnamon roll the size of my head but after I saw how huge my sandwich was, I decided against it....there's always next time!
My sandwich was awesome and massive. The tangy red pepper horseradish sauce added great flavor. It came with what looked like homemade tortilla chips and salsa. I only ate half of the sandwich and a few chips and was stuffed!
The others in my group got the Agua Veggie (mango chutney was yum!), the Agua Club and another Mexicali, this one sans egg. Everyone was more than happy.
We didn't get coffee so I can't comment on that...but it looks like they have a great selection!
Super cute, down-to-earth place. We'll be back! -

I almost don't want to write this review, because I want to keep this little Corpus secret to myself =) but I know it's my Yelping duty to tell you all about the:
- Great drinks (mango smoothie and chai iced tea were wonderful)
- GOURMET but CHEAP pastries: a 8"x8" brownie for $1.99?? a quarter of that would run $4 at Mozart's in Austin. And snickerdoodles for $1.09, and a devastating espresso cookie for $1.35...I wanted one of everything. Fingers crossed that the Agua Java guys don't read this and up the prices =D Btw, make sure you ask them to warm the brownie up for you)
- Great decor, vintage look but everything's new and spic-'n-span.
They also serve (hot) sandwiches, which we didn't try but looked tasty.
I wish I lived closer to Corpus, because I know this is a cafe I'd frequent on a regular basis. I'm glad we found it though; it may not have a bay view but it was a near perfect (and refreshing) way to end the day after visiting the Aquarium and walking about in the hot sun.. -

I stayed there for a couple of hours with my laptop, but I did not feel uncomfortable at all. The decor and atmosphere were fine. Agua Veggie panninni was tasty, and I loved it!

Thanks to Yelp, i found out about this place. since it was my first time i had a regular cappuccino. It was a very delicious 16oz of espresso and loved every bit of it. but my love for the place start as soon as i walked in.. the atmosphere was pleasant and the barista was very polite and welcoming. :)
I love the fact there is free wi-fi i will be sure to bring my laptop next time. the decor was modern and comfortable whether you may be trying to have a small business meeting with another person or to meet up with a friend to "catch up" on things.
i love the location of the place if you plan on getting some coffee before or after your meal or walking around downtown. This is a place you have to try if you are in the corpus area and enjoy coffee. -

Agua Java is, in my estimation, the only decent coffee shop in Corpus. I would highly recommend you people avoid Starbucks at all costs and head over to this locally owned place. Located downtown in Water Street Market Aqua Java has a lot going for it - It's got nice music, latin/tropical casual decor, relaxed atmosphere and of course, pretty good coffee. They roast their own beans, and have a lot of really delicious things to choose from - if it's too hot for coffee (which it probably is) I love the Frio Lomaximo - it's basically a honey flavored latte - blended over ice. Very, very delicious. Another bonus is that all their baked goods, which varies depending on the day, are fresh baked in house. Their scones are fabulous and IF they have the carrot cake, which they often do not, get it, because it's one of the best carrot cakes I've had. The toasted coconut on top is perfect. However, they don't always have that - but if more people ask for it will be a staple! So start requesting the tropical carrot cake at agua java!
The other thing I can recommend there is their breakfast panini. It's filling, spicy, very delicious and under 5 dollars.
Skip Starbucks, and go here instead. It's better and local. -

Delicious sandwiches. Really cute interior. Decent smoothies. The pastries look really good too, and they are all on the inexpensive side.

Finally tried one of their sandwiches. Homemade focaccia was brilliant. I can only assume it was house-made because it was so abnormally soft and delicious. Try one of these sandwiches and you will realize how a really good bread can elevate an otherwise ordinary sandwich to a wonderful sandwich.

I really like their monterrey sandwich..and the latte lomaximo (which was SO good the first time I had it...but hasn't been replicated since so I keep trying). I've had a couple of their baked good items which were good and really cheap though I don't really get them anymore but I'm sure they taste the same. The place itself is cute and I really like that they have free wifi. One or maybe two of the cashiers aren't the friendliest but I guess any coffee shop can be that way. I really just go for drinks and sandwiches. They seem to have expanded their menu with salads and pizzas but I haven't tried them yet so someone let me know how they taste!

thanks to the other yelpers for posting their reviews, or i wouldn't known about this coffee shop...i love it! a perfect spot for first time visitors on vacation. we walked from the omni hotel, and were pleasantly surprised. great ambience. i had the latte chocolate mexicano- and it is superb! much better than room service. the kolache was Huge and the turtle brownie was too much for 2 people- its big enough for four people!
my g-friend and i sat in the two leather couches near the window and posed as the "token town lesbians" LOL.... -

I found this amazing coffee shop visiting my cousin in the hospital near by. Their indoor decoration of this coffee shop is super cozy! I have this fascination with bottle caps, and just when I looked up there on the wall was a map of Earth with Bottle Caps!!! When I looked right there is a mechanism of Fans fanning the guest that are seated on the booths, how cool! I ordered an Iced Chai that hit the spot paired it with a potato cookie that was crisp and light. They roast their own beans so I must try it on the next visit. They serve sandwiches, soups and salads that are on my list to try the next time around!

Stopped in here during a sight-seeing trip through Corpus Christi. Great atmosphere. Display ase full of cookies and breads. Big sandwhich menu of yummy-looking items. Coffee needs all met. Tables, boothes, comfy chairs, power & wifi, you can't really ask for more. I camped out for about an hour, filled out some postcards, booked a hotel for that night online, and then continued my trip. Thanks Agua Java.

Great coffee and even better sandwich (the Mexicali I think). We really enjoyed the atmosphere, which let us relax after some shopping at the nearby stores.

I have been in twice today and had very good...everything. Very well made breakfast sandwich. All fresh made items here. The Americano coffee was very good. I liked the roomy, quiet atmosphere, which was great for quiet time. A better coffee house, compared to anyplace nationwide.
