Review from Cherri F.
Santa Monica, CA
i went to college in San Francisco and used to love to go to Nan and Curry on 19th. I have now lived in Los Angeles for a few years and still haven't found an indian restaurant that can compare, especially the tea. Agra Indian kitchen does come close. They have a very intimate dining area probably in a space around 20x20 so it does seem your a little close to the next table. But the tables are clean and the lighting fits the mood.
The service is pretty good. I have been there twice and every time I am greeted when I walk through the door and don't have to wait long for someone to come along and take my order. The waiters are very on top of their job. They are so good in fact it seems a little uncomfortable because as you eat it feels like you have four guys behind a counter staring at you and they are just waiting for you to turn and ask for something. But getting a check is pretty easy as you can imagine.
By far my favorite is the chicken tika masala. It almost is as good as my favorite place in SF.
Give it shot if youre in the area. -

Review from Nina M.
This place needs to get shut down. My stomach is still hating me from this meal. We park our car in their parking area in the back and no joke there is a worker smoking crack in the back! This should have been our signal to drive away but we already ordered the food..
Anyway I pick up my food it was about $40 for 2 dishes, 2 chutnies & garlic naan. We got our favorites, chicken tika masala and saag paneer medium heat. The saag paneer was spinach mush with hard peices of cheese. The chicken tika masala had overcooked hard pieces of chicken breast and the sauce was a bit watery. They both were not fresh, overcooked, lacking in flavor and absolutely no heat. The mango chutney tasted like sweet marmalade that I threw away completely and the lime chutney was watery cilantro. Luckily i had my jar of spicy mango relish (courtesy of bay cities) to mask the food, otherwise would have been INEDIBLE.. The naan was limp and hard at the same time with hardly any buttery garlic goodness. How do you screw up naan?!?!
Huge disappointment, huge waste of calories, huge stomach problems... I guess that's what happens when you eat somewhere where the workers smoke crack. -

It's a good deal, really low key, delicious lassi's, amazing tiki masala, tantilizing garlic naan, and a hefty food coma afterword.

Yum Yum I love this place, good quality Indian food. The outside of the building looks a little iffy but a pleasant suprise when you are inside!

Review from Maggie R.
I am gonna be one of the lone dissenters here, but I didn't love this joint. At ALL.
The food was average, the service was really not good by any stretch. Friend and I are both huge Indian food fans, so we were excited to give this restaurant a shot. I've eaten my fair share of Indian food, so I know what's good and what needs to do better.
We had to beg... BEG... SEVERAL times... for water. Friend ordered the Volcano Lamb, so his dish was eyes-watering spicy, and to have no water by your side for that one is a total downer. We both ordered Mango Lassi, which we also weren't mega-impressed with, but it wasn't enough drink to cool down from the food in between moments where we could actually obtain water. If they had been busy, I would have understood, but it was us and 3 other couples, and that was it. The entire time, the whole staff was standing around in the back, tinkering on their phones and chatting. Uh... you just delivered one of your spiciest dishes to a table. Might wanna check on them. See if they need anything. At LEAST come by to make fun of the white folks trying to do India-spicy.
The garlic naan was burned, but still edible. The papadam was a little bland. I ordered the Tandoori Chicken, and it was tasty, but a little small for the price.
We ordered kheer for dessert... it was yummy. Kheer is totally a comfort food of mine, so I knew I'd probably be happy with it no matter what, and I was.
This could have been a solid 3, but the service lacked so much that it gets 2 from me. Reading from other people's experiences here, it sounds like maybe we just came on an off night. Dunno. But I probably wouldn't eat here again. -

Came here a while ago with a friend since we had a groupon deal.
Volcano Curry - Since my friend is a big fan of spicy dishes, we ordered this but was disappointed. It had a different spiciness to it that we weren't big fans of.
Chicken Tikka Masala - not the most traditional Indian dish but definitely my favorite of the ones we ordered. We asked for it to be a little bit spicier and they did just the right amount.
The restaurant is pretty small and the staff is nice. We went in on a Saturday afternoon around 2PM and at first it was just us and one other table. By the time we left, four more parties had sat down which isn't bad for a small restaurant.
Samosas and naan were decent too. Not sure if I would specifically crave Agra but if I'm in the area and in the mood for some Indian food - probably would drop in. -
Review from Matt P.
I think that three and a half stars really hits the nail on the head rating-wise at this small, dimly lit Indian hole in the wall. In the realm of Indian cuisine, I just can't in good faith round up that half a point. I've had more heat (Akbar in Pasadena) and more rich flavors (Electric Karma) elsewhere, but overall, the food was still good and definitely a solid option on this side of town.
The orders:
Garlic Naan: No hints of garlic at all. Tasted like plain naan, and was perfect in that respect.
Chicken Pasanda - cooked in a green curry, this dish was good. Out of the three entree's that were ordered, this was the most bland. Maybe raising the heat level from medium to hot would bring out more of the spices.
Lamb Volcano - The menu warns of the extreme spicy heat level and to take caution if ordered. They don't tell you what this is, but I suspect a Vindaloo of sorts, which looked like a dark brown curry. Yes, this dish is hot. It is spicy. That spice does linger in your mouth for a bit. But, I can't say it's worthy of molten lava descriptors. While my tongue tingled after the few first bites, I kept eating more, expecting the to need to tap out and douse my mouth with water or to start wiping the sweat glands beneath my eyes to clear up the ensuing perspiration. No, neither of these happened and I just kept eating away. I really enjoyed the flavor, but not as hot as it's made out to be.
Chicken Tikka Masala - The house specialty and my favorite dish of all three entrees. The flavors were rich and tasty. I secretly wanted to trade in the rest of the pasanda for more masala, but it wouldn't have been fair to my other dining companions. I recommend this first to anyone wanting to check it out.
Service was tip top - warm, inviting and made sure everything went smooth. -
Review from Willy W.
We had purchased a Groupon-esque coupon from another deal site whose name I cannot remember. The deal was expiring and so it was time to eat Indian food @ Agra.
They're located along Lincoln Blvd in Venice. They do have some parking around the back. Otherwise I wouldn't dare go during rush hour as Lincoln is a pretty busy road.
It's a small restaurant that has gone by unnoticed to me for years of driving by aimlessly. Good to know that it's there because the food & service are pretty good.
We ordered the "must-order" tika masala (with lamb) & naan as well as the Aloo Gobi + a Shrimp Biriany.
The tika masala's color & taste were a bit different than what I'm used to, but it still tasted pretty good to me. Their naan was pretty good. As always those two went together very well.
The Aloo Gobi (Fresh cauliflower & sautéed potatoes cooked w/ mild spices) was tasty and complimented the rest of the meats.
Last but not least was the Biriany. I had asked for shrimp but received pork... the waiter was quick to fix the mix-up, but he actually left us with two... which meant tons of leftovers for us. The pork actually worked better in this dish. I asked for medium-spice which gave a nice kick to it w/o killing me in spiciness.
I felt a little bad about it, so we just left a larger tip in the end. I was very pleased with the service there.
Overall Agra Indian Kitchen is a pretty good place to grab Indian food (dine-in or takeout) in the Marina area. -

I'm pretty sure I've mentioned this, but I love trying things from my Entertainment Book coupons! I had a buy one entree get one free but I've seen similar coupons for them in other places (they are currently offering a yelp deal on the website). It is nice that they do delivery and that they are so close, but I don't think I would come back without a coupon.
I have been there twice and here are the dishes that I have ordered
Lamb Korma 12.95 - This was a keeper. I really enjoyed the flavorings of the sauce and there was a good amount of lamb. If I go back again I will be revisiting this dish.
Lamb Vidaloo 12.95 - I can take spicy and I normally really like Vidaloo, but I feel that the spice in this dish just took away from the flavors. If you are a lamb lover like me, skip this one and go for the Korma.
Chicken Tiki Masala 11.95 - Not my favorite Tiki Masala...I've tried a lot of different restaurants version of this dish and Agra's is not on my highly recommended list.
Eggplant Bhurta 8.95 - It was okay...really heavy on the peas and carrots.
Bhendi Masala (Ochra) 8.95 - I Ordered this to try something new. I have always liked ochra and decided to try it with Indian influences. It was different and liked it.
Meat Samosa - It was defiantly different from your typical samosa. The eager beaver that I am I kind of burned myself when eating, but through the pain I thought it was good
Garlic Naan - Not mind blowing, but not bad. It served its job well.
A nice little bonus was that every entree comes with a side of Basmati rice so you can save a couple bucks there.
Overall not my favorite, but if I get hit with a craving and have a coupon handy, I'll probably try out some of their other dishes -

I really wanted to like it, especially since everyone there seemed to show a lot of effort.
However, they brought out the wrong order for me, forgot the rice, and took way too long to give us our bill at the end even though we were one of the last ones in the restaurant. The service wasn't stellar that night.
Also, the food is relatively expensive, and the "spicy" dishes weren't actually spicy! I got the Volcano lamb dish, which is supposed to be out-of-the-world spicy, but I didn't even have to take off my jacket to eat it.
In a nutshell, a little disappointed, but they do have great cheese naan. -
Review from Danny F.
We came here using a Living Social or Groupon deal. Plus, Scott S. likes it so how bad could it be? :)
This place is tiny. Parking is 2 spots or so in the alley or street on the busy Lincoln so good luck.
The restaurant is a bit dark. They dim the lights at night. You can tell there are lot of locals there or people using their Groupon, which looks like they're hitting all of those online sites. There's a http://Restaurant.com deal right now. :)
First, they have Papadam. I love Papadam. The free condiments were okay. We ordered the Chicken Tikka Masala and the Tandoori Mix Grill with Garlic Naan. All three were delicious.
The service was also good. I didn't get their names but all were polite, not intrusive nor absent. There is one guy that is always on his Bluetooth (no problem there; just an observation).
I would come back here for quick orders as parking isn't easy and driving in that area is not fun either. -

I came here for first time with some friends, I was pleasantly surprised by how good all the plates we got were. It was freshly made, big plates, the Indian beer was good also. (kingfisher).

My husband loves Indian and introduced me to it when we met 5 years ago, I'd have to say its now my favorite food. We just moved back to LA after living in Dublin, Ireland for 3 years, we had our favorite Indian there. Since we got back, we have been in search of the BEST INDIAN IN LA. We have been searching for almost 6 months.....
My husband loves a Phaal Curry but we cant seem to find anyone who does them. I did some searching on line and found this place, they do a VOLCANO CURRY!! So, we tried it out... YUMMY YUMMY AND YUMMY Best Indian so far. Decent prices, wine, and great flavorful food! Not to fancy can go casual.... small and intimate, good service... its not too close to us but we make the drive anyway. -

My review is focused on delivery since I've never been to the actual restaurant. My tastebuds aren't even cold yet but I had to come and leave a review. The Tandoori Shrimp is delicious and my boyfriend loved the lamb Tikka Masala. And cheese-filled naan??!!! Yum. Heaven.
The delivery was quick (I got an estimated 8:08 delivery but the food arrived at 7:55). I gave 4 stars out of 5 only because a) delivery charge...really? and b) possibly a little more pricey than it needed to be.
Honestly though, the food was really really yummy and filling, so don't pay too much attention to my penny pinching. It's an economic thing.
Also, I want to add that the delicious shrimp I had was mild. No need to go hot for flavor unless you're into that sort of thing~~
EDIT: My bad, the delivery charge was apparently a result of going through http://GrubHub.com. So if you want to eliminate the delivery charge, then call the restaurant directly with your order!Listed in: Eat

I just don't see what is getting 4 stars here at Agra. The Chicken tikka masala (I know, I know - total whitey safe dish) is just not good and way to thick, almost like an Italian sauce.
The vegetable balti was just embarrassing. It was like they threw a boiled Green Giant packet into some curry...words can't describe.
Garlic naan was decent, but far better to be had. Move along, nothing to see here. -

So good. Try the Chicken Tikka Masala and the cheese naan. The service is awesome. I bought a Yelp deal about an hour before I went to the restaurant and when I tried using it, it hadn't registered with them yet. But the server (maybe the manager?) was very kind and just took my name and number and said it wouldn't be a problem. He was very nice about it. I will def. be back soon.

You know it's a good pick when you walk in and the restaurant is filled with people who looked/sounded like regulars. Plus it came highly recommended by my friend.
We ordered the garlic chicken, chicken tikka masala, another chicken dish (which i can't remember), eggplant bhurta, garlic naan and cheese naan. The dishes were served with rice and soup of the day (lentil vegetable). The food was really tasty and the service was super friendly.
I would definitely go back! -

Note: This is only about the delivery...I've never actually dined in at this place. Their delivery system is awesome - you can call directly or go online to order. The service is fast (usually 30 minutes from time of order) and the price is great for what you get - large portions, great quality. Not as cheap as any local Chinese place, but you want good Indian food, you've got to spend the extra few bucks per entree, ya know?
The food is seriously fantastic. My friend always gets the chicken vindaloo extra hot and the spice is right; he loves spicy stuff and swears they do a great job. I, myself, can't do ultra spicy stuff...so I've only taken his word.
The naan is great. I love their chicken tikka masala and saag paneer. Their samosas are scrumptious too. If they're frozen, I'm totally fooled - no freezer burn or unfresh taste to them at all. -

Marina del Rey, CA
I got home delivery from Agra Indian Kitchen earlier this week and was pretty impressed. The driver turned up ahead of schedule, the food was still hot upon arrival and I had far more rice than expected. There is nothing worse than running out of rice halfway through a curry!
I ordered the Chicken Chat Salad, Chicken Tikka Marsala and the Lamb Kebabs. The salad was really nice and for my two entrees I had asked for one mild and one hot and they got this bang on!
The only very minor issue I would pick on is that my chicken in the Tikka Marsala was a tiny bit over cooked, but perhaps this was a product of delivery and had I been in the restaurant it may have been perfect.
It is not the best Indian I have ever had in my life, but when I had a huge craving for Indian food it satisfied that in every way one could hope. -

I saw that they had a coupon at http://Restaurant.com and since I like(d) their food I naturally bought it.
Wow, WHAT A NOSEDIVE of service. And these guys have waited at my table many times before.
Yo Agra -- just because somebody uses a coupon does not mean you need to stop by their table EVERY FIVE MINUTES just to ask "are you done yet?"
TERRIBLE!!!!!!
I'm not kidding, they literally came by every 5 minutes and kept asking if they could clean off plates on the table that STILL HAD FOOD.
Rude service, TERRIBLE ATTITUDE.
Don't worry, Agra, I won't bring a coupon again.
I just won't come again.
Very disappointed. But it's not a big deal, there are many fine and superior Indian restaurants in town.1 Previous Review: Show all »

Overall the food is so-so. The service was good, but I went during lunch time, so it was rather slow. It was a bit expensive for the scale of restaurant. I was overcharged for 2 dishes compared to the lunch price on the menu. Also, I was not impressed by their cheese naan. All in all, not a place I'd hunt down to eat at again. I have definitely found better Indian food in LA and you should too.

Los Angeles, CA
My boyfriend and I found this place on yelp and decided to go because of the special offer.
I have to say the good reviews totally add up.
Outside the place looks like it's going to be a hole in the wall, but inside is very fancy and well decorated. Definitely goes to show not to judge a book by it's cover.
The food was AMAZING. I think this is the some of the best Indian food I've had in LA so far, hands down. We got the chicken tikka masala, saag paneer, and garlic lamb... I was more than pleasantly surprised. They gave us soup to start and even that was delicious.
The naan was good... I have no complaints. Everything was delicious and we even had leftovers which continued to be good later on.
As far as prices go Agra seems pretty standard for Indian food, not necessarily a bargain but if you are in for a splurge of a night of good Indian food this is certainly a place to go. I'd definitely want to come back. -

I finally found a favorite Indian spot! I've been searching for a great Indian food that was close by for years. My girlfriend and I came here for dinner after weighing a couple of options, we ultimately decided on trying this place because it was new to the both of us. We thought the food was delicious and found the service very friendly. We had the garlic naan, tikki masala, and vindaloo, all of which we devoured. Our only objection was the wine we ordered - it could have been better, but whatevs... that's a minor thing. I can see this place becoming my regular Indian food spot.

Solid food, decent service for pickup orders, but there's no ambience here, and any given dinner combo doesn't hold a candle to the resto right around the corner for presentation or price.
I love these guys for their proximity and the regular A-OK consistency of their dishes, but I wouldn't recommend making a special trip here. That said, I'm a regular for their Saag Paneer, and their Coco Lamb ain't bad either. -

Denver, CO
It was the last night of our vacation, and my wife wanted Indian food. I doubted we would find a spot nearby, but thanks to Yelp we found this cozy little spot, less than a mile from where we were standing!
Agra kitchen serves north Indian cuisine (think Saag paneer, 'stereotypical' Indian food). Service was prompt and friendly, we shared a few plates of vegetarian fare and a big bottle of Taj Mahal beer. The names of the dishes escape my memory (and not just because of the jumbo beer), but both were very tasty.
If you're craving Indian food in the Venice area, check this spot out! -

Los Angeles, CA
This place is pretty affordable and definitely satisfying for when you are craving Indian food.
WHERE:
- On Lincoln Ave. between Venice Blvd. & Washington Blvd. On the West side of Lincoln.
PRICE:
- Approx. $8-10 for lunch and $11-13 for a dinner entree. Of course it all depends if you are ordering chicken, lamb or beef.
- Entrees come with basmati rice (this is pretty bland) and a cup of vegetable soup (this is very tasty).
RECOMMEND:
- Their vegetable samosas are hearty and delicious. Comes with Green Chutney and Tamarind Chutney (a fave!)
- I prefer their Onion Naan over their traditional Garlic Naan
- Coconut Curry was pretty tasty.. we asked for it with "medium" heat but realized afterward that we could have handled "hot" heat.
- Bhuna Dish with chicken had a good amount of veggies and a lot of flavor.
TIPS:
- Their portions aren't particularly large but they are flavorful.
- You get a good amount of sauce which you can use very efficiently by cooking up some extra chicken and rice the day after.
- You can order online here: http://www.agraindiank...
- Closed midday M-F between 3-5pm
*Check their page on Yelp to see if their "Buy 2 entrees, Get 1 free" special is still available! -
Review from Shawna H.
Marina del Rey, CA
Really disappointing! Ordered the Chicken Tikka Masala and Madras Lamb. Tikka Masala was way too sweet, and Madras too hot, even though I asked for medium heat. I love spicy food, but this sucked all the flavour away. Meat portions were, frankly, pathetic (Hurry Curry, on Venice and Beethoven, gives you more meat with their 14.99 dinner for two!) The sauce, oh the normally delectable Indian sauce that I love to drench some naan in -- was such a disappointment that it sat in the bowl, uneaten. Of course that may have been because the naan was heavy and hard -- perhaps it was old?
Overall, I agree with Iris T's 3/25/11 review below and wish I hadn't let the other positive reviews of this restaurant win me over. I have tasted and cooked many an Indian meal, and this was by far one of the worst! -
Review from Iris T.
There's a plethora of Indian restaurants in LA and honestly the only reason Agra won out is because it delivers. It got decent reviews on Yelp and we were feeling lazy so we thought we hit gold!
After we got out food, we found out that we did not. My chicken tikka masala was just.. meh. It was a bit too sweet and not enough spicy. Not to mention, the naan was burnt and tasted old.
I'd say if you want good Indian food, I'd give the other nearby Indian restaurants nearby or make the extra drive to further away Indian restaurants.
