    Watch out Brent's!,,
Agoura Hills delii is our new favorite deli!
Since Brent decided to shrink the bread and meat portion, we lost our taste for Brents!
And you can add a salad for 2.00

Watch out Brent's .. You lose

    Chinese Chicken Salad.
GET IT!!! YOU WON'T REGRET IT!!!

If you look at a lot of people's tables, they have it. By far, the best you could ever get.  I don't think I have ever looked at their menu as I know this salad is the most amazing thing on earth. Trust me!

I usually get a matzo ball soup with it. and pickles. and bagel chips.
    mmmmm I'm drooling.

It's good and it's pricey for a sandwich... but that appears to be par for the course in the greater TO area. (Why is this area of the state home to the $15 sandwich?)

High quality deli, with an extensive sandwich-burger-entree-breakfast-Mexican menu. Delicious complimentary housemade pickles, fresh and tasty food, and friendly service. I highly recommend the chicken salad sandwich.

As you can see, I'm now a regular at this place.
Having started dating someone in the Agoura Hills area, I'm now up there quite a bit. The selection for breakfast places is extremely lacking. But Agoura Deli is great because not only does it have a decent breakfast selection, it has something for everyone. So the kid can order his hamburgers off the kids menu, daughter can get her chicken strips, boyfriend can get a pastrami sandwhich and I can get a delicious breakfast item. The coffee is decent as well.

Service is always prompt and attentive, and we've never had to wait long to be seated. Ask for bagel chips - they are super yummy.

Overall, not somewhere that would ever be my first choice... but the food is palatable, and the servings very generous.

The Place- It's open on Christmas day, as expected.  Fun kitschy decor, plenty of tables and booths, outside patio seating.  Parking is plentiful, but on Sundays they share a lot with the farmer's market... heads up!

The Service- The younger servers are perky and friendly, the older servers are bored and friendly.  This place seems to do well primarily off the patronage of loyal locals, which I think says something about the "neighborhood deli" vibe and service.

The Food-  Well, the portions are VERY generous (but with a price to match), and the menu extensive.  Breakfast is served all day, and...
...No, that's it.  I'm out of compliments.  I didn't think the food stood out in any way but portion size; the omelets (and I've tried a few) are a tad boring, the hash browns are oily and flat, the sandwiches often run dry.  Cheese blintzes are alright, the fries are okayy too.   The grapefruit juice seems like it's sweetened with honey... personally not a fan of the resulting flavor.

Deli's.. either they're cheap with mediocre food, or more expensive with good food, right?  This place was expensive with mediocre food... Not especially inspired to return.

Oh!  And a note for first timers- when you get the bill, you bring it up to the front counter and pay there... don't wait for someone to come get your card :)

    Excellent!

    Great food, huge portions!

The sandwiches & wraps are so big that I can only finish half of them (and the other half is always great later).

I've been ordering off the "Deli Bites" menu since I can usually finish those.  The Trio Of Mini Deli Sandwiches is great.  The Triplet of Mini Salad Sandwiches is really good.  My favorite (which surprised me at a deli) is the Tres Mini Tacos.   Mmmmmmmmmm.

I love Agoura Deli, it has the best breakfast menu in town! Their omelettes are hands-down some of the best I have ever had. They make a wonderful Matzo-Ball soup and their grilled veggie salad is one of my favorites. At times the menu can seem overwhelming, the choices are endless, but you can't go wrong with their sandwiches, soups, salads and breakfast foods. You are sure to find something for everyone at this awesome spot.

Ate here on a Sunday, was surprised it was not busy with the Farmer's market in the same parking lot.  The food is good but pricey.  The service was attentive and friendly.  They did not have chicken and rice soup - but gladly accommodated my request.

I had the brisket sandwich.  It was generously portioned, but dry.  I ended up soaking it in the au jus to make it better :)  The coleslaw is terrible and the fries are good.  I should try the breakfast foods - as I hear they are known for breakfast.  The dessert case looked yummy - but I am on a diet.

    I'll be back :)

And so continues the quest for Agoura's best Deli.  While Blue Table, Sub Contractor's and Agoura Liquor had all fallen a full two stars short of the glory that is Italia Deli & Bakery, Agoura's Famous reviews hinted that we might just have a legitimate contender on our hands.

*Dislcaimer: Agoura's Famous is a sizable operation, and really warrants three separate reviews for their Sandwich, Dessert and Restaurant options.  The scope of this review only applies to their sandwiches, that is, the "Deli" portion of Deli & Restaurant.

Star 1 - How was the service and atmosphere?

Especially on a weekend morning with the farmer's market in full-swing, Agoura's Famous dishes up a fantastic atmosphere.  From the elderly to families stopping by after a sports game, the place is often lively, and employees joking around with kids and reciting the names of locals from memory makes you realize why people choose to live in a place like Agoura Hills.  With a separate counter for take-out deli orders, I was served promptly by a cheery employee who made sure I got exactly the sandwich I was looking for. Star Granted.

Star 2 - How were the portions relative to the cost?

A $$ rating for a Deli? Hm... this is new.  However, even a quick glance at the menu will make you realize that $$ is entirely accurate.  Even though I opted to go for a "Half" portion of their traditional sandwiches (not even their "stackers"), my hot brisket sandwich rung up at $12, and so began a bit of frustration.  As "Deli" is in the name, I was under what I consider the reasonable impression that I would be able to walk in and then out again with a sandwich in hand, but apparently this isn't quite the case.  Upon being asked what side I would like (fries, soup, salad, etc.) I informed the server that I only wanted the sandwich, fully expecting that that might lower the price to a reasonable level.  While I was appreciative that she told me, I was a bit put off when she said that I really should just get a side because, side or not, the price stays the same.  Frustrating.  Granted, as you'll see in the picture, my hot brisket sandwich was absolutely stacked with meat, and probably weighed in at just under 400g for a half portion.  However, as I could easily get 100g more at nearby Italia, I was disappointed at having spent so much money. No Star Granted.

Stars 3/4 - How was the food?

While large menus can be great, I've come to realize that more often than not, a massive menu combined with a disproportionately smaller kitchen can be a real red-flag (i.e. Sonic).  With so many different options, places with huge menus can never really specialize in one particular type of food, and it usually ends up with everything being pretty mediocre.  While I should again point out that this review applies particularly to the Deli options, my hot brisket sandwich was mediocre at best.  While piled high with slices of brisket, both the bread and meat were painfully plain and extremely dry, and I now understand why the server was pushing so hard for me to get mustard, mayo, or thousand islands.  Additionally, the steak fries were about as basic as it comes, and at the end of the day I'd paid $12 for a sandwich that could have been bested by two sandwiches from Subway.  I'll give a single star because the food wasn't "bad", but this was a mediocre sandwich. Single Star Granted.

Star 5 - Would you eat it every day if you could?

I really do need to come back to Agoura's Famous Deli & Restaurant to get a vibe for their restaurant and breakfast options (and their desserts!), but it will be a while until I do so.  Until then, know that if you're looking for a good Deli, there is absolutely no reason to not be at nearby Italia Deli & Bakery. No Star Granted.

Picked up soup for my mom one day when she was sick. Said I wanted the chicken noodle with matzo balls to go. Guy tells me the small size comes with only one matzo ball and the large with about four. I think, alright I'll pay a couple bucks more so she can have a few in there.

Turns out the second size up is $12! Seriously?! It wasn't even that big, and I'm sure matzo balls, chicken broth, and noodles cost that much for their entire days pot. Rip-off.

Just had possibly the best pastrami sandwich in LA.
The staff is super nice, and really understanding. My debit card wasn't working, so I went to the ATM across the parking lot, and when I got back my whole order was ready! Really good rye bread, flavorful pastrami and awesome potato salad. I didn't get any desserts, but they all looked amazing.

Generally when I think "Famous" I associate it with things I've heard of. This place is confusing. The food is absurdly overpriced and the selection is limited at best. They don't have any respectable assortment of sandwich toppings causing me to question the validity of the "Deli" aspect of the name. Also, if you're going to charge more for add on's that is fine, but not everything is an add on. This place is a step away from charging extra for the bread on your sandwich. The potato salad is... well... it has potatoes in it I guess. I would compare it to the potato salad your senile grandma makes. Maybe it was good 30 years ago, but you don't remember that time. You've only heard stories and unless you're sitting in front of her, you're not going to stomach it. Save yourself a lot of coin and walk over to Italia Deli instead. They know how to make sandwiches.

Final thought. We've already established that the titles "Famous" and "Deli" are misused which leaves us with Agoura's Restaurant. Now we have a issue with false advertisement. There are other restaurants in Agoura and this is much more of a diner.

I'd probably give this place 4.5 stars as it does have some weak points, but I feel I need to counterbalance the unfairly low ratings. Too expensive? HAVE YOU PEOPLE EVER BEEN TO A DELI BEFORE? It's cheaper than Jerry's and twice as good, and has personality that Brent's just doesn't. Plus the pastrami is great. Just slap some pastrami between two slices of rye and I'm good. For you people who want to tarnish it with cheese, I humbly say to you: GTFO.

Falafel plate is great. Reuben is great. Breakfast is great. Chicken noodle soup cures every ailment. Not salty like most places, but light and comforting. Chicken nachos (no beans) are surprisingly good. Don't get the pastas, please. Baked goods in the front are usually quite tasty. Mmm I could totally use a chocolate danish right now.

I have been going to this place for years and still come back whenever I'm close by. Service isn't that great as the waiters take their time and chat with the regulars, but it's kind of part of the experience. Spend a lazy afternoon here, stuff your face with too-large portions of delicious Jewish food, and do us all a favor and forget about the price.

I don't know what you loney kids are talking about.  I just got back from here and wow what a great experience.  It was 12:40pm when we got there and it was pretty busy.  But we got a table.  I ordered the Super Ruben only because I don't go out too often, and when I do, I go large.  And this is large.  I was going to get the Mile High, but he said this would be enough of a challenge.  it was.  I should have taken a photo, cause it was really awesome.  Fries were perfect, the cole slaw was crisp and not wet.   For $13.95, absolutely enough for 2 people.  My mom got the BBQ Chicken salad and it was enough for a football team.  My dad the BBQ chicken sandwich, and same thing, plenty of food, and very well prepared.

I don't have anything negative to say about this place.  For the 3 of us, with tip, spent $55, which isn't too bad for someone's birthday!

I am shocked (SHOCKED!) that the reviews for this place are so middling. I love this restaurant. I've been frequenting this place since I was in HS and would come here for lunch with my coworkers.

The Agoura deli is a jewish-style deli in the heart of Agoura Hills. The decor years ago was illustrations of famous people on each of the ceiling tiles, but since the remodel the restaurant has lost a lot of it's former character.

The waitstaff is friendly if not a little smart-alec-y, which I'd imagine is encouraged by the management. The menu is vast and the food is all really good quality. I've never had a meal here that I didn't find especially delicious and completely filling (The portions are HUGE!).

Seriously, I can't say enough good things about this place and will visit it as often as I feel the need for a GIANT meal for a good price.

Now, there  is something to be said for old-world pastrami sandwiches. The rye bread is room-temperature and the dressing is light, the onions are thick but the pastrami rules over all. These are nice sandwiches. I've had one at Katz' deli.
    I won't have another.
Give me a loaded pastrami and chopped liver on grilled rye any day. Give me onions as thick as a strongman's femur. Give me russian dressing as sloppy as a baby's bib. Give me chopped liver sweeter than a first kiss. Give me pastrami.
    Just give me pastrami.

And, Wendy? The waitress we always get is the sweetest.  Fast, efficient, smart and totally someone I would have a drink with.

After the first time I had the chicken salad melt I couldn't stop thinking about it.  Day and night, the truly "mouth watering melt" would taunt me, saying "I'm here waiting.....where are you?" So I went back and had it again. Then the next day, again. They soon stopped asking me for my name when I came in for pickup orders.  Great amount of food for the price and tastiest restaurant in the area by far!

You can choose between an array of omelettes, some very good burgers, kabobs, salads, sandwiches, Jewish menu items, milkshakes... geez this place really seems to have everything.

This place has been a staple in my food arsenal since I was a little kid growing up in Agoura Hills.  Although it has changed names and owners quite a few times, it always seems to be consistant in food and quality.  All of the servers here are great and attentive, with smiles on their faces.  I have got many different items which were all good but today I will tell you about what I get most of the time.  I always end up with the Oriental Chicken Wrap which is hopefully healthy.  It has lettuce, chicken, mandarin oranges, little crispys, and some other goodies inside of a wheat tortilla.  It is very tasty with a bit of sweetness inside.  I would definitely recommend this.  Their water here too is very refreshing :)  This will be a place I take my kids to, when I have some (hopefully not anytime soon)

Since this is the deli of choice at my office, I have been here at least 50 times over the last five years, maybe more.
It is a good Deli, not great, not like a NY deli though they have the usual fare of pastrami, corned beef, matzo ball soup, etc.
It's just good. Most of the time I have the Ruben and it is good and the portion is gut busting.  The fries are outstanding, the thick steak cut type and the pickles are great.
The thing I like most about this place is the same servers have been working there for as long as I have been going and they are very nice and very good at their job.
Agoura Deli sort of has it's own taste, if you know what I mean.  It's extremely consistent and clean and friendly.
I have also had Cobb and chef salads here and if you do, get the small because the small is not so small.   Kicks the crap out of Jerry's, that's for sure.
    Enjoy

Not stellar by any means. Agoura's "Famous" Deli is only famous for being the single stop in the area for deli food until Brent's came along to Westlake. Their sandwiches are decent, but nothing to marvel at. The selection is giant, many dishes from many ethnicities; which is probably why everything is only mediore. I like their "potato skins" with chili and cheese, their giant burrito is pretty tasty, but all in all, I could make any of this stuff at home, better, and better for me, no doubt. Also, a bit overpriced if you ask me, but then again, we are in Agoura Hills, so I'm sure none of the locals even notice...

Alright - first things first - this place is not amazing BUT they do have one thing in particular that rocks my socks pretty damn hard..this would be their Paramount Ranch Chicken Sandwich but you must get it with sauteed onions, mushrooms, and avocado..it is super juicy pan fried chicken breast on butter grilled sour dough..once you put on those mushrooms, onion, avocado, tomato, thousand island and some of their Beavers spicy deli mustard..damn. This is not a healthy sandwich by any means..but it tastes so good..other than that..find me at Brents..

My husband said you're not wearing make-up, what if you see someone famous...He's been here  many times, and has seen celebrities, but Sunday morning just brought out the hungry residents.  With a buzzing Farmer's Market outside, we were lucky enough to score a parking spot right out front, and walk in and get a booth.
The menu is extensive.  Page after page.  I have been to it's "sister" location, Pickles, in Newbury Park, and menus were very similar.  We both chose Breakfast, waitress attentive and quick, and food served quickly as well.  SO much food.
Ordered an omelete, served with choice of bread(toast, muffin, bagel, etc) and choice of potatoes.  My entire plate was full, and I had just started nibbling on my muffin.  Fresh squeezed orange juice & frsh ingredients.  My omelete called for avocado, and there on the top of my eggs was a half of avocado.  Sure didn't scimp there.
Prices reasonable, and lots of choices.  Family friendly, and loud.
Decor, eh.  My husband pointed out the celebrity drawings on the patio.  Some good, some terrible.  Broadway show posters above the bar.  Cashier had a tan for 3.  All in all, a good Sunday Breakfast.

the menu here is a book.

i found that having a general idea of what i wanted really helped the decision making process. eggs? burger? salad? hot sandwich? once i figured that out, it made it much more manageable.

my breakfast burrito with bacon was pretty damn tasty, but also came with deli prices, a few bucks more than i would preferred to pay.

points for being able to handle 15 of us on a pretty busy saturday afternoon, though getting our orders taken took a lot longer than it should have. once the ball was set in motion, our food came out promptly and we were taken care of pretty well.

Food here is amazing... I've never had the breakfast here, but the sandwiches are incredible,  I ended up with the homemade corned been has and eggs with a cornebread muffin.  That along with sitting on the patio/terrace on a beautiful morning.. .couldn't be beat.
