Review from Sam L.
So... after taking this dance class with my friend and deciding that I'm an uncoordinated mess...and having fond memories of step aerobics in middle school..as they were my favorite part of our gym class... and having found this place... I decided to try it.
Yeah.
So I thought it would be a piece of cake... I thought it'd be slow... old people... you know... my type of exercise.
Well... this is what I "assumed"...
There's this famous "Odd Couple" quote..
When you "assume" you make an "ass" of "u" and "me". - Felix Unger
Yeah. Easy? Slow? Not. At. All. I've never jumped up and down and had to do so many high energy things at once. I tried to keep up but after awhile... I just wanted to die.
Well, when I first got there before the teacher was there... there were some other ladies and they all just had the "step". I figured... I'd put some of those other things under the step to make it "higher" and hence "harder". Not too smart for a beginner.
I also should have brought water. After awhile I had to step out and take a drink because everything was spinning and I was starting to feel really lightheaded.
I came in thinking it'd be somewhat peppy but not too challenging. It's not that way at all. It's a full hour of basically running up and down and jumping all around this step to lots of super fast music.
There's also some weight work in the class...which isn't a biggie for me. I'm used to carrying and lifting stuff... but my legs are killing me. I'm sore now.... I can just wait until tomorrow.
I guess it's going to take some getting used to.
Other than that:
The facilities are extremely nice. There's several indoor basketball courts and indoor climbing wall (which I'll have to check out someday) and a gym.
I'm not really a gym person... but from what I could see there are a lot of machines... and when I got there there was hardly anyone there... but when I was leaving it was pretty packed in there.
The places where they have the classes are nice. Hardwood floors... tons of windows looking out over a whole bunch of greenery... and vaulted ceilings with skylights and fans. It's a super nice facility. Much nicer than some of the other gyms I've even been too.
I'm not a workout person... so once a week is great for me... and to take any amount of classes for the day and to use the gym is $5. They have a ton of classes that you can check out. You can also go and come back as the young girl at the front told me. That's pretty awesome.
It's small... quiet...and it's in a nice area on the border of Agoura Hills and Calabasas. -

I would really like to become a member here eventually, but for now, I have just been attending the weekly pick up volleyball games.
The volleyball nights are really fun! I always get a great work out. There is a group of older men who I assume are regulars... they kind of dominate (as in take over) the court but they are really nice and welcoming. I don't like that it is $5 each time I want to play, but I know I should just get a membership to make it more worth it.
I used to work at my home town community center which did not have a gym area... so that makes a huge difference to me.
The facilities are very nice, and there is plenty of parking, which is great. -

Great location for an event and need to rent a hall. Very clean and nice parking lot. Go have your event here if you don't mind the people at the gym in sweaty casual clothes nearby.

Hidden gem!
I'm a member of the the Agoura Calabasas Community Center (AHCCC) gym because it is close to my home, cheap and has all the basic amenities you would need in a gym. I really am not one who appreciates the Equinox-type of experience and the hefty price tag that comes along with it. Last year, I got a three day pass to the Equinox in Woodland Hills and while all the equipment was in tip top shape and who doesn't like having Kiehls products in the shower, I was underwhelmed by the yoga class (For yoga, I go to Inner Power Yoga and that's it), so I am sticking with my community center gym. My month's membership is cheap enough at the community center gym that I can take a bunch of other classes at specialized studios (i.e. yoga, spinning, etc).
The gym is hardly crowded so you are usually guaranteed to get access to the treadmill or elliptical...some machines are newer than others but none are in poor condition. There are also a few stationary bikes, a stair machine, and weight machines. There are indoor basketball courts which I have also seen used for badminton. Oh, I almost forgot, there is also a rock climbing wall...I've never actually used it.
There are also a bunch of classes at the community center but many are hit or miss. The one teacher there that will guarantee to kick your butt is Candice Marie's classes. She changes her class format from time to time but most recently, she has been introducing interval training...a high intensity exercise (mountain climbers, running, jumping jacks, lunges etc) for a minute followed by a rest of 10 seconds and repeated six times. She also focuses on each body part using weights or resistance bands. She provides a full body workout making sure you are drenched in sweat...not at the end of class but like 15 minutes into the class. Her class is very high energy with great motivating music. I'm sort of bummed that with my running injury, I have had to lay off any high impact classes and that would include Candice's boot camp. I have a feeling when I return, I will be sore for days after her class.
Some of the folks going to the gym tend to be older so the gym doesn't have that "trendy cool place to pick up dudes/chicks" but honestly, who cares...the gym gets the job done.
My membership costs ~$26/month because my sister and I are on a "couples membership". I think single memberships are $40/month or so. Daily pass would be $7. -

This gym/community center is awesome! They have an indoor rock wall, an awesome basketball court, a fitness center, and a studio for a variety of classes!
The staff is awesome and dedicated, and all the facilities are kept clean and functional!
This is a great gym if you don't want to feel like cattle like at 24 Hour Fitness.
The only thing is they close at 7 on Saturdays and 6 on Sundays. Weekdays they close at 10!Listed in: Agoura-ish

They have great classes all day long. So far I've tried about 8-9 different ones and they have all been excellent (the boot camp and cardio-kickboxing ones provide an exceptionally good workout).
The staff is friendly and all the equipment is clean with plenty of supplies to desensitize yourself if you are picky! -

everyone here is very very friendly. there is a great atmosphere. the cost is also a great deal compared to other large-scale gyms. i like this gym because it is small and not so insane. its not like a big huge deal to go to the gym.
lilah the girl at the desk has helped me out a lot.
and another girl i remeber is zoey. they are both very helpful. -

I've been coming here for years, this place has everything you need for a good workout! All the equipment is in great condition, it rarely gets crowded, the AC is always on, and parking is ample. They have classes too, which are tons of fun, and they are included in the membership. Also, membership is super-cheap compared to everywhere else in the area. I'm on a family plan and I pay only $20 a month!
