Los Angeles, CA
An Italian elegant staple in Los Angeles. A great place for a romantic dinner. Ago is located in the heart of West Hollywood. The food tastes authentic italian, delicious. I've had a variety of their pasta dishes and some seafood dishes as well. I highly recommend both. The food is generally not too heavy, tastes authentic and full of flavor.
Service can be temperamental, depending on what waiter you get. This is a semi-upscale restaurant, hip, and definitely not casual. if you get a good waiter, then it can add to the experience exponentially.
Great wine selection. I really enjoy their reds.
I like it, I look forward to every visit. -

When I order a piece of meat I want the big knife, I don't care if it's a filet. I want the big white napkin for me and Pops so we can put it in our shirts like in the good old days. And if it's not too much too ask I'd like to see a woman waitress just one- it's okay to hire us we are all very knowledgeable and it would ad some realism to the whole notion of this restaurant being Italian see as how Mama is basically an Institution in all Italian cooking and most definitely in the culture.
The food was...good. Took my steak (filet) squeezed actual lemon over it, required no sauce it was delicious. However, the rest must have left something to be desired because my father, who in his former years would have picked up the table and walked out with it has now become a far more patient man and choked it down begrudgingly. -

For my friend's birthday, a group of about 15 of us went to Ago for dinner. Before going I did a little research and found that it is partly owned by Robert DeNiro and named after its executive chef partner Agostino Sciandri. The restaurant had a very serene and romantic ambiance, which would make it great for a date, and yet there were so many groups of 5 or more. Definitely very upscale and fancy. I was also impressed by all the waiters speaking Italian to one another, and even more impressed by the food.
Their bread was really good. Service was great. Its just a really upscale and fancy restaurant with great ambiance. If that's what you're looking for, then this is the great package.
I gave it 3 stars because there isn't necessarily something special about it that I'd go back for or recommend to my friends like "oh my god, you have to go there for (fill in the blank)." But overall, I was still pleased with my experience. -
Review from Thy N.
Very sceney, very Italian. The crowd was sophisticated and good-looking. It seemed lots of big guys with fancy suits and thick accents were meeting to do business. The table next to us was filled with mafia actors. I kinda felt like a mob wife here and that there was gonna be a raid at any minute! Way cool.
I was totally underdressed, but treated just like anyone else. And by that, I mean, practically every single person who worked in the restaurant came to greet us at some point or gave the nod of recognition and respect as they walked by. My buddy apparently eats here all the time, so I got all this attention by association only, haha.
That said, the service was outstanding. I didn't see any of the "I'm really an actor and this is my side gig" types here. Nope. Older, larger, white-haired Italian gentlemen who love what they do. It was quite a treat.
The food, however, didn't wow me. It was good! But there was no wow'ing as per my usual excitement over great food. Here's what we had...plus a little tale of a silly girl (yours truly) having a really DUMB, embarrassing moment!
For drinks, we have the signature peach martinis - yummy and goes down easy.
First come the mussels - very good. Fresh and meaty, a generous portion.
Then the beef carpaccio - disappointing. A bit bland.
Then the lobster fettucine special - good. Unexpectedly spicy, but still good. The lobster meat is a tad overcooked for my liking.
Enter embarrassing moment.
There's a mix-up with our order. My buddy had ordered the chicken parmigiana, but a different chicken dish comes out. Our server is extremely apologetic and brings us a spaghetti marinara and a small, thin pizza to hold us over. That was nice, right?
The spaghetti marinara is excellent, but the pizza's a bit weird. I'm thinking "Hmm, this is a bit spongy and strange for a pizza" - but it tastes good.
After awhile, I start to wonder about the chicken parm. I lean over to my buddy and ask him if the spaghetti and pizza were supposed to replace the chicken parm, or if the chicken parm was actually coming.
He looks at me like I'm wearing my crazypants. "Are you serious?" he asks.
Turns out the pizza I'm eating is not a pizza at all. It is, in fact, brilliantly pounded chicken parm! Doh!
Like I said, it was good, but after finding out what it was, I was even more impressed. AND needless to say, super embarrassed! My buddy will never let me live that one down, and why should he? I'm an idiot.
In my defense though, it really did look like a pizza. It was pounded extremely thin, had a layer of marinara and cheese, and it was served in a perfect pizza pie shape. I've never seen chicken parm served this way before, so cut me some slack and let's just chalk it up to inexperience!
Again though, I wasn't wow'd by anything I tasted here. As much as I'd love to give the place more stars (and it deserves it based on ambiance and service - we even got 3 free desserts!), the actual food was just 'A-OK' - with or without my silly confusion :) -

Thursday night, my favorite night to dine out, went to figs an Olives trying to get a last minute table but it was closed for a special event. So I decided to go to Ago , it was about 7:30pm and Ago was already busy, got lucky and got a nice table in the corner, perfect for people watching. I ordered a proseco and my friend had a martine. By 8:15pm all the tables were taking ... Right on time for my appetizers . I had the grilled octopus and the beef carpaccio both a must . Octopus was extremely tasty.
As main course I had the bransino and grilled vegetables . My friend had the fillet Mignon .
Overall it's a nice restaurant with a nice bar inside. By 11:00pm bar was packed. Great place to go with a date or friends, I also saw lots of family with young teenagers. Lots of French, Italian and Russians frequent this restaurant.
PS- it has a great wine selection for the wine lovers. -

After perusing Yelp for a place to eat while on I5 down to LA, I read about Ago. The reviews sold me and I was able to score a reservation using Open Table via Yelp.
I had the wild boar pappardelle. It was rich, meaty and had the absolute best red sauce I've had with pasta - outstanding. I started with the beet salad and it was very good. Generous portions of beets, salad and cheese.
I loved the complimentary breadsticks too. We had the thick chocolate tart for dessert and it was a winner. Service was friendly and attentive, although we did not get the pitch about the nightly specials. Some of the other busboys seemed to hover around a lot, which is great of you need something.
I will definitely go back. -

Try to request a table on the covered patio. It was definitely more happening. The lighting is low so it's a great spot for a date, although there were lots of groups when we went on a Thursday night.
Start with the Peach Martini. It's delicious! Be careful though because they are very smooth and it's easy to lose track of how many you have had. We got the mussels to start and these were the largest and meatiest mussels I have ever eaten. They were prepared in a spicy red sauce. Save the bread so you can sop up some of this yumminess.
For entrees we got the sliced filet and the baby rack of lamb. Our meats were cooked perfectly. My husband's only comment was the side of arugula could have used some dressing. -

Nice place, great environment, good food. Not more I can ask for from a restaurant. You need to try the beef carpaccio or the margherita pizza as an appetizer. It sets the tone for an even better main course. The place has a nice patio as well, that just provides an overall great ambiance. I will most definitely be coming here again in the future.

I just absolutely love this restaurant. What's so amazing is that it was THE place 12 years ago and it has not stopped. You can walk in any night and find the most amazing array of different people. But always interesting, beautiful...the place just pops. I can see why it has for so many years...the service and the food. Hands down both amazing - consistently so.
They will always try and accomodate you - even last minute. The charming italian servers know the food and the menu and are incredibly professional, polite, and helpful. The lamb ragu??? The lamb ragu how i love you so...
It is expensive but worth it. Not too many places in LA with such a fun scene that can have such amazing food and service and you don't mind the prices... -

buonasera! Love being greeted at an Italian restaurant with a friendly good evening!
The service was great and the water glasses were never empty. We tried the fried calamari and vegetables which was superb. My husband had the caesar salad which was authentic but was a bit overwhelming with too much dressing. He had the osso bucco... and thought it was delicious.. I had the seafood risotto (lobster, crab, mussels, scallops) in a red marinara... MMMMM... Impressed and pleased. -
Review from Mitchell H.
We just got back from Ago. The service was excellent, and our waiter was very well informed and gave a great overview of the menu and specials.
We had the eggplant parmesan, buffalo mozzarella, mushroom risotto and special tortellini and then tiramisu and chocolate torte for dessert. Everything was amazing, however two small things:
1. It took a while for our waiter to take our order - about 15 minutes
2. My wife and I were bumped about 7 times total in the back of our chairs by the wait staff.
Having said that, the atmosphere was great, food was excellent and service (post order taking) was fast and accurate. Would definitely go back. Kudos to Robert De Niro for putting together such an excellent Italian restaurant in West Hollywood. -

I cant believe i fell for this place. I had the steak which was the worst steak of my life. Appetizers were all horrible. Our waiter was very rude and unprofessional. I will never go back to this restaurant even if they offered me a free dinner.

Everyone at my table had pasta so I can only comment on the pasta entrees. The pasta here is great and I am definitely a big fan. Ago is a classic West Hollywood restaurant. Very stylish, trendy, sexy, and also intimate. The setting is very classy and stylish. A great place for a business dinner or entertaining of good friends.
Come prepared for a great time of people watching. You are going to see some of the hottest exotic cars and fashion at this restaurant. Lots of beautiful people and great service from the staff. Very fun place for dinner in West Hollywood. -

Good Italian food with some authentic Italian (no fake accent) waiters.
The beet salad was pretty good.
The desserts were good.
I had a pasta dish with lobster and it was great. Noodles were done well (not too mushy) and the sauce was perfect...not overbearing.
I guess sometimes you see some stars but I didn't really look around.
Some nice cars parked out front...LA style. -

I came her with my mom to celebrate the happiest day of our lives and the restaurant did not disappoint. Not only was food on point, but we got graced by the company of the one and only, Babyface at the table next to us. The highlight was Babyface's entourage lighting a cigarette for my dear mother.

Food and service was pretty good here!
Must try the octopus dish, most tender pieces of octopus I've ever had! I've even tried live octopus and it doesn't compare.
Very nice ambiance, good service, good food.
Later found out Robert De Niro is a partner of the restaurant with Chef Agostino Sciandri. Ottimo ristorante! -
Review from Andrea L.
I freaking love Ago! Its delicious Italian food in a classy, upscale, intimate ambiance. Its a classic West Hollywood restaurant- stylish, trendy, and sexy-which I love. Its always buzzing with fabulous people and I have spotted several celebs dinning here. This is a fantastic spot for dinner. Grab a drink at the bar- the martinis here excellent. I usually order the lobster risotto, but I've been here enough to know that everything is super yummy.
Recommended for a special occasion, date night, and since I've been here for several birthday celebrations with friends, its awesome for groups too! If you remember, bring your own wine for a corking fee that is quite a money saver, especially for groups. Like most things in life, Ago is expensive but so worth it! xo
Mental note: There's an Ago in Vegas...Listed in: Its a date!, I'll drink to that!!, Dre's Favorites...

Reservation is a must! Food is good! Ordered their pizza, garden salad and tenderlion with mushroom. Our tenderlion was a bit on the fatty side and had to return it back. Ordered their penne pasta instead and it was a plus! Customer service was excellent!

Prior to my visit I heard much buzz with regard to Ago and felt it was time to pay a visit. My date and I arrived at the very beginning of the dinner hour on a Sunday and chose outdoor seating. As I am not a native of the desert, albeit currently living in the desert, the lattice, ivy, other foliage, and Tuscan tiled patio was very refreshing. The weather was mild and made for a very casual and comfortable dinner. Regretfully I must make one detraction, that being I feel there may be too much seating on the patio as I did feel I was a bit closer than I'd liked to other patrons. An easy solution might be the reduction in number of tables, nevertheless the seating was comfortable and pleasant.
Also, as some others have mentioned, the staff did indeed speak Italian. The team was very pleasant and was very open to recommendations and advice - I was impressed.
I chose, with a bit of advice from our friendly server, the Pesce Bianco. The texture was soft but did not tear as I expected, possibly the sautée? The taste was colorful with the spinach and artichokes - especially with combined bites; I certainly recommend this dish. Her Paste e Risotti was great to levels of a cleaned plate as well. Moreover the team took it upon themselves, after overhearing a bit of our conversation, to gift us dessert.
Fancy a brief trip to Italy? Visit the outdoor seating at Ago in West Hollywood. -

Anything with cheese is great, other than that... Its terrible. Never had dinner in a place that had such poor restaurant manners. The waiters were exchanging used plate from another guest's table, above our main dish while our server was separating our fish dinner that we've been waiting for 40 minutes. It is hard to explain the situation, but it happened and I was soooo furious that i lost my appetite!
When the bill came, they over charged $150!!! They really thought that we'd buy it!!! OMG!! they charged us for Rosee when we drank Brut,, charged it as separate orders when we asked for Antipasto... It was ridiculous.. ITS JUST WRONG!! The table next to us was just as upset~~
NEVER DINING THERE AGAIN!! -

San Francisco, CA
Fun place, great ambience. Most every waiter we encountered spoke Italian. Which was such a nice touch. I could tell they really liked a dish if they repeated words a lot. Haha- si si si molto bene bene :)
A few notes the food came out piping hot which was great. I had spaghetti with lobster and scallops in a light tomato sauce. It was seasoned perfectly.
The penne and spaghetti noodles are not hand made, but the linguini and ravioli are. So ask your server before you decide. It is Italian and the pasta is good.
There were a ton of specials like 7 so make sure your server tells you about them, even if it is in broken English!
Many sounded great :) -

By far one of the Best in LA!
Second time in 8 days ....it tells you a lot!
I came here for dining LA week and I got back for the second week ....but I just prefered to order from the Menu' .....so many choices!
The first experience was great with Dining LA ......Excellent appetizers,we had Polenta with Porcini and Burrata with Caponata! Both Excellent!
As MAin course we got Spaghetti pescatore and Tagliata di MAnzo With Shaved parmesan...both really good! As dessert with had Panna Cotta e Chocolate cake!
My words cannot describe how great was everything!
The Desserts have the touch of kill!
Very difficult to find fresh desserts and high quality!
By the way service was impeccable we had Pietro which was professional and nice and friendly! ( Ask for him)!
Second visit we had ....Grilled octupus Salad and Portobella mushroom salad ......excellent!
As main I Had risotto frutti di mare cooked at perfection , al dente and my girl had Linguini vongole ...both ...they way pasta should be made!
FInal Desserts: Very interested to try new stuff ( although the temptation to get panna cotta and chocolate cake was big)...so we had Profiteroles and Straberry cake and mixberry cheesecake ...all to die for; fresh, tasty as only a Pastry Chef can do it!
We got a Tiramisu' to go ...because we were really full.............I tried few minutes ago ( day after) ....oh my god.....I think one of the best i ever had in my life!

I loved it! The atmosphere was casual-ish, yet classy. Being that it's Robert deniros restaurant makes it a tad cooler. The food was good I thought, pricey but that's average for that type of place.
We went there before an Emmy party and it was perfect!
I'd recommend!!! -

This place has LA written ALL over it... not that I'm complaining of course. Definitely a great place to dine out and get some great Italian food. The atmosphere is perfect, especially the outdoor patio - very romantic, great for a date. Great place for people watching.
Salad was great, Mushroom Risotto to die for, and Tiramisu the best I've had! Everyone I was with seemed to love their dishes as well.
If you're in LA and want to check out the restaurant scene, this is a great place to start! -

Buono come si fà!
I love coming to Ago when I'm in LA. It's the first restaurant I think of when I get to town. It reminds me of New York dining for so many reasons. Number one reason... I can eat late... now that's Italian!
The menu is simple, but yet fantastic. Whether you decide to enjoy a late night snack, or you decide to go big Ago has it all. I never get the same meal, but then again, I've never had a bad meal there yet. Always fantastic. On the lite side they serve a nice pizza which is a thin crust (New York style) which is always a hit!
It won't be the least expensive meal you can choose in LA, but what's the point of going to LA for Italian if your looking for a deal? The service is second to none, and you want for nothing. Attentive, and polite the staff is at your service from the time you hit the door until you are completely satisfied walking out.
One of my favorites in LA every time I'm there! -

Ah. I had my graduation dinner here. And my tummy looks back on that dining experience quite fondly. Dinner party consisted of my parents, the boyfriend, three other friends and myself. Once everyone arrived, we were seated promptly (valet parking btw!) in one of the circular booths. One person had to sit kinda in the walkway since there were seven of us (not sure what they do for larger parties).
Alright, on to the food. For appetizers, we had two orders of the steamed mussels (muscoli pepati) which were prettyyy darn good. We also had two orders of the carpaccio manzo, which was my personal fav. Then two orders of the polpette di carne (meatballs)- I didn't try them but everyone else seemed to enjoy them!
Now, we had six people order six different entrees. I'll just start by saying that there was a general consensus that we liked the appetizers better than the food. I had the risotto, which was pretty good, but I got kinda tired of it halfway through. My friend who ordered his filet mignon LOVED it. He was sad when I asked him to let me try it (but hey, it's my grad dinner) and yes, it was pretty good. My friend who had the half chicken thought it was okay.. Kind of bland. And my memory fails me for the other entrees
Their desserts are really good though! We got the creme brulee, one of their fruit tarts and their chocolate brownie concoction. All were perfect!
Oh, and I can't forget their peach martini. Yes, there's a reason it's mentioned in so many reviews and their signature drink. It's friggin delish. I'm going to learn how to make it. :) -
Review from Tommy L.
This review is hot off the oven, as I just came back from dinner here two hours ago.
All you need to know is: 1) Service is incredibly personable and attentive; never did I feel mistreated - despite my age, 2) If you can't decide on what to get, go for the meatballs and veal ravioli, 3) The very extensive winelist - I opted for a glass of Malbec and a glass of Pellegrino to go on the side.
Thoroughly enjoyed every aspect of our meal tonight, even before I got there! Making a reservation here is as effortless as logging onto your OpenTable app. We even had to modify the time of our reservation with no trouble whatsoever, and the restaurant was plenty packed when we got there.
There is also a secret menu available at the restaurant, if their standard offerings disinterest you. A table not too far from ours ordered a whole fish filet, which was specially prepared right by their table side. It was so amazing to watch!
While I've had better authentic Italian food elsewhere for a much lesser price, Ago is certainly worth checking out. -

My boyfriend wanted to surprise me for my birthday and decided to take me here.
The service here was HORRIBLE. Yes we are young but that does not mean that we have to watch 3 other tables get seated around us at the same time but did not even have our drink order taken when the tables around us were already getting appetizers.
We didn't bother getting dessert there and instead went to another place to leave my birthday on somewhat of a happier note.
The waiter simply ignored us the entire time and that is not acceptable for the price you are paying. I will never come back. -
Review from Joy G.
I'm torn between 3 and 4 stars, but 2 weeks later I have a happy memory, so we'll go with 4.
Didn't realize going in that it was only valet parking. So I parked my car myself and forked over my keys. The valets moved my car 2 spots over, stole half a pack of cigarettes, and charged us $7. Oh well, could've been worse. I should've known better than to leave cigs in the car, and it's cheaper than some other valets.
First impressions walking in? Schmancy! We went earlier in the evening, around 7p, so it wasn't crowded when we got there. Were offered indoor seating or on the heated, tented patio. We opted for the patio, which was had a romantic ambiance, being completely candlelit.
I've read some complaints here about the service, but we thought it was great! I couldn't walk up/down 2 steps with my crutch without a waiter or host or manager insisting on holding my hand to help. And our waiter was helpful and attentive. We also got a kick out of an older gentleman being fawned over just before we left.
The food was good. I grew up with a lot of Italian friends, so I've learned not to expect much at Italian restaurants. The bread was complimentary, the water was not ($7/bottle which the waiter poured).
Had an appetizer of Formaggi, $10 for assorted cheeses with aged balsamic vinegar. I was excited because I love cheese and love balsamic vinegar. But being dark, I couldn't really tell what cheese was what until eating it, and where was the vinegar? There was a jelly substance that tasted like honey, and it wasn't good with the cheese. But it was still cheese, and that makes me happy.
I ordered potato gnocchi, and you can choose your own sauce ($20). They'd never heard of besciamella, so I went with the vodka sauce. The gnocchi was soft, almost undercooked, but still good. The sauce was an average vodka sauce.
My fiance had the lasagna with meat sauce. The portion was small, but he said it was good. What we both felt was the best part of the meal was dessert - we shared a creme brulee, but really should've each ordered our own.
All in all our bill with tax and tip was about $100. Not something we'd do all the time, but for a nice night out, it wasn't bad.
And Mr. DeNiro is welcome to replace those stolen cigarettes from the valet anytime ;) -

Here's the story. 3 men, 1 meal.
Shared a few plates.
Pesto gnocci - How didthey mix marshmellows and potato? I really don't like pesto but even that was awesome.
Meatballs - I think they have my Mom's recipe. I smell free mealssssssssss.
Cheese pizza - Unreal. Just right, just thick enough, just f----ng awesome!!!!!!
Burrata - I jizzed my pants.
Main dishes - NY steak - Just right, I know, I know, steak not the best choice here but I really wanted it. It was perfect.
Venison ravioli - Not my thing but I was told they were awesome.
Some kind of fish - Once again, told it was awesome.
Dessert - Abel, the amazing bartender/everything, offered us a mixed plate. The chocolate thing was good, the lime thing was good but the best thing was some kinda banana tart. I really, really, really (I mean really) don't like banana desserts but as I had to try it, you guessed it, I jizzed my pants. Awesome!!!!!!!!
Oh yeah, peach martinis still rock!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1 Previous Review: Show all »

Ok, Iv been here numerous times, and I have to say the food is really good, only if you know what to order. This place is a trendy italian restaurant, with a so-so waiters. They will only be on their toes, when they feel as though you are somebody, so annoying, so you have to play up the act. ( Very LA ) So, patio seating is a must, the crowd is nice, and the venues very pretty.
Their truffle pizzas so amazing, i have to get those everytime i go, sometimes they have seasonl truffles thats hard to get and charge you extra, but life is so short, why nottt. It may not be on the menu, but its their best kept secret. :)
The peach martini is amazing, everybody there is drinking this! it is so delicious, and a definite favorite!
gnocchi here is good, risotto here is very good, and their dessert platters are fun.
As much as I dont like most of their servers, except one, :) they are knowledable with their wines and they do pair well with each dish. no complaints there.
end your dinner with some cappuccino and then lets hit the clubs! -

Wonderful Veal and pizza. This is my favorite Italian restaurants in the LA area. There is not one bad thing about this place, they even have matches to take when you leave the service is almost too good, like let me lick the plate before you take it, at least let me put my fork down!
