Just wow...  I mean, what can I write that will convince you that this is awesome ice cream?  Just go... now...  I had chocolate chocolate chip with strawberries and whipped cream...  oh, if I had a bowl of it now!

GO NOW! (as Hannibal Lecter says)

Came here the other night for dessert following dinner at Bakersfield, it was our first time having Aglamesis, and yes I have lived in Cincinnati my entire life. It was very good, since it was our first time, we ordered a scoop of vanilla, my brother a hot fudge sundae, and I ordered a basin sundae containing vanilla and chocolate ice cream with fudge sauce.

I like how you order at the table and the employees bring the ice cream out, like at a normal restaurant, plus the ice cream is served in a silver dish.

Very nice shop and employees with a lot of history, I will be in again, I however like another Cincinnati ice cream over this.

What a cool atmosphere! I loved that throwback feel, but not in a time-warpy kind of way. It's situated in the charming little area of Oakley and its personality seems to fit perfectly.

As for the ice-cream, it was excellent. I got the Pistachio and absolutely loved the balance it had with salty/sweet, creamy/crunchy. It was quite a good little bowl of ice cream.

I want to go back and try some of their more intimidating items and other flavors, as I was pretty full from dinner yet. I think that may have stopped my review from being flawless but in no way would I hesitate for a return trip.

A little too rich for my tastes. I got the mint chocolate chip and the mint was so intense it tasted like toothpaste so I stole my boyfriends cookies and cream and it was fabulous.

Very cute date spot. Awesome architecture. Love the family history so I will continue to support them.

After having been to a few different ice cream spots in the area (Graeter's, Schneider's, etc.), I'm pretty sure Aglamesis is my favorite. (Except maybe for creamy whips, but I'd put them in a different category anyway.) The item and flavor options are varied, but not overwhelming; ditto for the candy. The old-timey atmosphere is fun without being too cutesy. The location is different without being too suburban. The service is attentive but not invasive. Basically, Aglamesis is the Goldilocks of the Cincinnati ice cream scene - just right. Try the pink champagne shaved ice.

Everybody has a calling. Something that they are meant to do. For some people like Paul McCartney it's to make awesome music. For others like Mike Brown, it's to run a major league sports team into the ground. For the Aglamesis brothers, it's to produce decadent chocolate candies and extraordinary ice cream.

Not familiar with the Aglamesis Bro's shop in Oakley? Let me paint you a picture. Imagine if you will homemade ice cream served to you 1950s countertop style in a silver dish. And not just any ice cream. Creative and celestial flavors fit for a god like banana chocolate chip ice cream. And cinnamon ice cream. Imagine also that you can turn any one of their 20+ flavors of ice cream into a kickass sundae. And not just any ice cream sundae but sundaes that make UDF sundaes look like the ice cream bar at Golden Corral.

Ice cream not your thing? How about a 15 foot long case filled with blissful orgasmic chocolate candies. And not just any average candy. I'm talking about delectable chocolates that make Hershey and Dove chocolates taste like your grandmother's sugar free diabetes candy. Seriously, there is bourbon soaked cherry cordials, dark chocolate sea salt caramels, and award-winning chocolate covered creams.

With every day that passes my calling becomes more clear to me than ever. Meet one of the Aglamesis sisters and make her my wife. And then live out a long jubilant life filled with banana ice cream, bourbon soaked cherry cordials, and happiness.

Ok.. I thought I'd reviewed this place the last time I went.. and it turns out I did not. I'm glad too because this time was SO much better than my first visit. I learned a very important thing about Aglamesis the other day..

It's not so much about their ice cream as it is the ATMOSPHERE. You see last time I went I got something to go. It was so unmemorable that I figured I wouldn't even return. I left thinking.. "What's the big deal about this place?!" If there were a status category for me it'd be sugartarian because everything I eat has to pretty much be consumed of sugar. So, as you can guess, I'm a bit picky with my sweets.. Ok, not really but sort of.

This last time I walked in and that sweet ice cream parlor smell hit me in the face. It was like I transformed into Pepe' Le Pew and my body lifted in the air and swam mid air over to the counter. My friend saw this and told me to sit down before I swam into that beautiful Tiffany Lamp hanging from the ceiling. So I came back earth bound and we strutted over to a cute little table.

Our Waitress was super nice and patient as I changed just about everything from my banana split concoction. As we sat there I was taken back into a simpler time, where people used to come and enjoy the ice cream and phosphates of yesteryear without so much as a care in the world while they did so. Fast Food didn't cross my mind, the pile of bills laying on a table at home were left there for a minute and the only thing I cared about was the conversation of a good friend and the smell of that beautiful ice cream parlor.

Our server came over quickly with our treats, and they were in silver dishes! The kid inside took over and I began furiously shoving ice cream into my mouth hole. It was delicious and made just right. It was like an elaborate treat just for me brought out in this special dish. I was all smiles and even tilted the silver cup up to my mouth to drink every last drop of ice cream possible.

I sat there starry eyed with a full tummy talking to my friend, and it hit me then that the atmosphere is exactly why this place is so great. Cold Stone is great for their flavors and what they offer, but they don't offer the personal touches and ,forget all your troubles, environment that this place does. I will go back, and enjoy a step back in time very soon. :)

This place is fantastic.  I actually rank it above Graeter's.  They have excellent flavors, such as a banana chocolate chip and I think I even saw a champagne sorbet once.  Walking into the shop is like stepping into a movie set in the 1950s.  From the pastel sugary pink decour down to the heart shaped chairs and getting your milk shake with additional portion served in its metal mizing cup on the side, I adore the vibe here.  I would also highly recommend the root beer floats, which is something I usually wouldn't order at an ice cream shop.

The reason I love Aglamesis is not because of their ice cream, but because of their "ices". The sorbets are the best in town and always fresh and flavorful. The champagne ice is one of my favorites and always a good pick me up that doesn't make me feel as terrible about myself as ice cream. It's like a fat free, frozen wine (not really alcoholic by the way) of happiness.

Not to say their ice cream isn't good - it really is. Their chocolate is nice, smooth, and dark. Their peppermint is my second favorite in town.

The store itself is too adorable to be true and very old fashioned. It's a great place to shoot some photos in the area because it is so well maintained and set up. Service is always good.

Definitely worth stopping by. For experience and atmosphere, this beats out any other ice cream parlor around.

I loved the decor and want to have one of the counter lamps so bad! The staff is great and let me try plenty of samples before deciding on butter pecan and double chocolate. My son got chocolate chip which was also very good and my husband the strawberry with fresh strawberries, all was very very good and even though there are only your standard flavors to chose from those are made extreamly well!

Don't get me wrong, I love sitting in the Graeter's in Hyde Park square casually eating a scoop of mocha chip after school with some pals. However, nothing comes close to doing that same thing in Aglamesis.
As said before, the atmosphere is what makes this place. Sitting back, chatting with girlfriends in the retro seating area drinking an old time seltzer soda is what truly sets this place apart. I could sit here all day simply reminiscing the stories and gossip that has been told around the tables whilst drinking a delicious mocha chip soda.
Yes, I said mocha chip soda. It's delicious - try it. My dear Maddy swears by the lime soda, but I wouldn't suggest it for the weak stomachs. It's a pretty intense concoction.
Aglamesis is in a perfect area. There's nothing like a spring day in which you grab a bite at Habits, check out the toy and furniture stores surrounding Oakley (don't buy anything though; they're all overpriced) and ending your day drinking in old fashioned ice cream soda amongst friends in a shop that's never aged.

Hands down best frozen treat / soda fountain / confection / ice cream / candy shop in Cincinnati.  I dare you to find a shop that tops Aglamesis.  We have been multiple times now and I'm fairly certain on at least two different occasions Jim Aglamesis waited on us himself!

From the cute outfits the friendly staff wears to the beautiful decor of their turn-of-the century shop, Aglamesis Bros does everything right.

I love the fact that they have a counter but if you are eating in, grab a chair.  "We'll get you a menu and a glass of water."  The choices are plentiful and the service is lightning quick.

We've had the fruit ices on a hot day and been relaxed within moments without ever the fear of brain freeze or chunks of bland ice.  Smooth and flavorful throughout.

We've had rich delicious seasonal ice creams and had our tastebuds transported to heaven... so smooth you'd think you were eating frozen cream.... oh wait you are!!

I'm oh so tempted by the candy, but have yet to sample, but if it is anything like the frozen treats... I'd be smitten for sure!

Overall, skip the crowded Graeter's in hyde park and drive the 3 minutes or so to oakley square and get some true cincinnati flavor!

Aglamesis is a favorite of mine because I feel like I'm in a time machine.  It is beyond retro and very cute.  There seems to be a war between Aglamesis and some other cincy favorite and I would like to say that I vote for Aglamesis!

Their ice cream is delicious but I especially love their sorbets (also known as italian ice).  Their numerous flavors are unique and never disappointing.  I have gotten a different flavor each time I visit and I have loved them all.  Go visit, sit out on their patio and enjoy a frozen treat :)

This place is a throwback to brilliant ice cream joints from days gone by... The recipe is so freakin' smooth and the flavors are amazing... I know most have an affinity for that Graet Ice Cream joint Cincy is most known for but, I love this place, it's authenticity and its tasty treats.  It definitely gives that other joint a run for it's money...

Y'know I once told a patron, at a previous job I held up the road, that I prefered Aglamesis taste and texture to that of the other joint (when they asked specifically for my favorite) and don't you know as I stood, with stars in my eyes, recollecting my last visit, that Richard "you know who", the president of that other joint, was standing right freakin' next to me... Smiling...

He introduced himself, shook my hand and thanked me for my honesty when I explained that, "I calls 'em like I tastes 'em..." Just sayin'...

After moving to Cincinnati this summer I thought I was a Graeter's girl. Although I do love Graeter's Aglamesis Bro's vanilla ice cream is FAR and above the best I've ever had anywhere. I love their old timey ice cream shop look as well. Try a caramel sundae with vanilla ice cream, simple but amazing.

If you want an adorable sundae in a charming atmosphere, go to Aglamesis Brother's. They have the best toppings of any Cincinnati ice cream parlor (although I prefer Graeter's ice cream flavors).

Sit at a marble-topped table, while a waitress serves you water and takes your order. She returns with a beautiful sundae in a silver or glass bowl. You will feel special! You will want to bring your friends and family back for the experience!

    1. WAY better than Graeters as Graeters now uses Guar Gum
    2. The shop in Oakley is just as adorable as you would like it to be'
    3. Try the opera creams they have won awards
    4. They have yummy sandwhiches, highly recommend the chocolate malt.

It doesn't get any better than this!  Graeter's pales in comparison to Ag's.  Aglamesi's ice cream doesn't have that greasy taste to it nor the waxy texture to the chocolate chips.  All flavors are crazy tasty, but I love the mint chocolate chip - you can tell its made with real mint because its not a crazy radioactive artificial green color.  My dad also claims that their butterscotch ice cream is by far the best he's had in his whole life - and he's a connoisseur of butterscotch.

Which brings us to the toppings - wow!  The butterscotch is amazing, but i love the option of marshmallow cream or whipped cream.  The whipped cream is great because they make it by hand, but also because they'll flavor is for you - chocolate whipped cream, mint whipped cream... the possibilities are endless!

The candy is by far the best in Cincy.  AND they offer a wide variety of sugar free candies for my diabetic friends - which is amazingly difficult to find in Cincy.  The easter eggs are my favorite - try the opera cream.

And to top it all off - the shop is just about the most uplifting and charming place, a throw back to the "old time" soda shops.  You can have wait service or buy it by the pint - either way its tasty!

Love it.  From the pink lotus lamps to the handwritten additions to the menu board.  I always buy gifts for co-workers there for the holidays, and my little one, husband and I treat ourselves to the variety of flavors to choose from the ice cream side.  The ice cream?  The best...pure, creamy and the flavors stand out, even when your tongue gets numb from the cold.  How could ANYONE turn down Butterscotch ice cream? Or Peppermint stick with a little dish of bittersweet chocolate on the side...ok.  Enough.  I'm wishing I was there again, even though I was just there on Monday!

Their candies are excellent, their ice cream better, and the staff is so much more friendly than any area Graeter's I've ever been in.

There will always be one ice cream place true to my Cincinnati heart, and baby, this ain't it. HOWEVER, this is still a damn good scoop of ice cream. Damn good.

Walking in is like walking back in time, which is a little disconcerting, but I still had my iPhone so everything was OK. This is the perfect little malt shop from the era of bygones. You order up at the clean white marble counter, there are stools to sit on, everything feels right out of a different time. If only I had my top gal and my best pal with me, everything would have been peachy keen.

I ended up getting a scoop of the mocha chip and it was great - homemade ice cream that was sweet and delicious and all I could ask for. Well ... almost all I could ask for. Don't get me wrong, it was amazing, but I missed the insane chocolate chips from another Cincinnati  ice cream institution. That's not Aglamesis' fault, though, and their ice cream was top notch.

I actually took mine to go and didn't sit in one of their retro metal seats with their heart-shape metal back, but I could see myself having a grand old time in this place, laughing and eating and talking about the big game before heading off to make-out point. Gee, it would be swell and I think I'll be back to do just that.

Walking into Aglamesis in Oakley is like walking into a time warp. The place is done up in a pink and white color scheme that brought to mind the film version of The Music Man (sadly I did not see any straw hats) and the old-fashioned tables and chairs were excellent. Not to mention that they actually have table service, and serve your ice cream in metal bowls with little stems. Tres fancy.

I wasn't super impressed with the straight-up chocolate chip ice cream, but my friend got butterscotch ice cream with hot fudge and it was amazing. I would definitely go back for that, or for some kind of sundae.

Graeters will always probably be #1 in my heart but when I'm in Oakley (or Rookwood, even) with a craving for something sweet, I'm going to keep Aglamesis in mind.

While family from New York was visiting, we packed the weekend full of activities. I was the only one who had been to Aglamesis Brothers before so we planned on heading to the Oakley store after a few games of laser tag. I knew the vintage ice cream parlor chairs, authentic soda fountain, and sodas on the menu would appeal to their interests. My family is a huge fan of Graeter's so it's hard to pull them away even one time from their favorites, but I promised them it was worth the deviation. All enjoyed the visit; some said "I still like Graeter's better" but acknowledged they enjoyed the option for seating at the counter and table service as a change of pace; Aglamesis is nice to mix things up, but there's no competing when it comes to ice cream flavor. Others said they'd prefer Aglamesis in the future because of the options for shakes and sundaes. But, all agreed it was nice to see some variety on the menu, especially the sodas and phosphates.

I had the red raspberry soda (soda, french vanilla ice cream, raspberry syrup) and loved it.

Let me just start this review by saying I did not try the ice cream. My date and I wanted to try their chocolates instead. We got two chocolate dipped apricots, a turtle type of chocolate, and a piece of chcolate covered heath bar. They were all delicious, but nothing different from other candy shops I have been to. I will have to try their ice cream next time, but for now 4 stars for the chocolates.

Aglamesis ice cream parlor is ESSENTIAL for a visit to Cincinnati. Growing up, this was one of my favorite ice cream places in town. Yes Graeters is good, but Aglamesis should be getting as much hype!

What's not to love about an old-fashioned soda shop decorated parlor. There is only one location! The tiled floor and old lighting fixtures are gorgeous. The little wrought iron parlor chairs and tables really make it. You can also sit on the stools at the gorgeous marble counter.

They sell ice cream , sundaes, and milkshakes, but also have a candy counter with various chocolates and candy specialties.

What are you waiting for!!!!!!!! GO!

This is THE picture-perfect, old-fashioned, little ice cream shop. Period. Not "little" as in "small," because the seating area is actually a decent size. But you know what I mean.

I used to walk up here from my apartment on Leesburg Ln at least once a week and grab the Anniversary Sundae -- a hot fudge sundae with toasted coconut, hot fudge, nuts, whipped cream, and a cherry. Oh, so, SO good. From time to time, too, I'd put together an assortment of chocolates from the counter as a gift for someone. And of course, the occasional miscount happens, and sometimes you have to leave a couple of those chocolates out of the gift box. And then what? You gotta eat 'em. Sucks, I know, but that's what happens. The vanilla buttercreams and the dark chocolate coconut drops are the BOMB.

I think maybe part of the reason this place makes me so gosh darn happy is that it reminds me of the photos of the shop my grandpa used to own in Whiting, IN. Total time warp when you walk through that door.

Stepping though the front door of this ice cream parlor/candy shop is the closest thing you can get to time travel.  Upon entering and seeing the old-fashioned set up, you're almost forced to turn around and look out the windows to make sure you haven't taken a giant leap into the past.

I'll go ahead and get the obvious out of the way.  The ice cream....great.  The candy....great.  The staff....great.  The turn-of-last-century atmosphere....pretty cool.  The prices are a little higher than what you might see at a Baskin-Robins or Graeter's, but remember, you're not just paying for the ice cream. You're paying for the experience as well.

Some of the things I really appreciate about this place is that it's located smack-dab in the middle of the neighborhood (Oakley), it has a history spanning nearly 100 years, and it's still family owned.  In fact the last time I checked, the family that owns Algamesis Bros. are directly related to the same family that opened it so many years ago.

Algamesis Bros. is one of those hidden gems that every city has.  Lifelong residents can stumble upon this and think to themselves, "How have I never known that this was here?"  A great way to kill a bit of a summer afternoon.

    Mahalo, and enjoy.

This gem in Oakley is surprisingly unknown to even locals. I have a feeling people keep this secret to themselves should popularity somehow corrupt the purity of Aglamesis Bros'.

On a recent visit I bought a bag of malted Easter eggs and am now too spoiled to ever crave store bought ones again. I love the sampler boxes because they prevent an indecisive gal like me from spending an hour gawking at the tantalizing display case.

If you're looking for a unique Mother's Day or Valentine's Day (or any day for that matter) gift, a little sweet treat from Agalmesis would be perfect.

Another recommendation is that their lunch sandwiches are very tasty. I really enjoyed the chicken salad, but the turkey and cheese was good as well. Nothing fancy, just fresh bread and high quality ingredients.

My only minor critique is that the lemonade is very tart. Almost too tart for my liking, though that may just be a matter of taste.

My love for Aglamesis Bros borders obsession and infatuation.

I grew up in Cincinnati about 5 minutes from Aglamesis, and this is one of those old-fashioned ice cream parlors that is straight out of the movies. It was always so bright, cheery, well-lighted, and inviting. The parlor had this aromatic waft of sweets that captivated everybody inside.

My sister, my friend, and I would always sit up on the counter, order the Rainbow Sherbert combo, and blissfully indulge ourselves for that short amount of time while we watched the workers take dishes and plop them into the sink with the pretty blue-green water (ignorant, we were at the time, that this was simply dish soap), hoping that one day we too would be able to play with the special blue-green water.

I only have wonderful memories of my family sitting in the ice cream parlor enjoying banana splits and laughing with new customers that walked in. This is definitely one of those landmark institutions in Cincinnati. If you ever have the chance, I highly recommend you visiting.

Where else can you get table service for ice cream?

This place is a charming throwback to ice cream parlors of yesteryear with the round, marble-topped tables, pressed tin ceiling, and charming silver ice cream goblets.

Try the seasonal flavors--especially peach during the summer--and you won't be disappointed. I can't recommend the mint chocolate chip ice cream though, usually my favorite, because of a strong, artificial mint taste.

Pricing is comparable to Graeters, so a bit high, but at least here you feel like you got your money's worth with ambiance and wait service. It does bring up an interesting quandary though--to tip or not to to tip? It feels tacky to just leave change for a 20% tip on a $3 dish of ice cream, but felt worse not to leave anything at all (so I just left a dollar).

Note: while this is 1 of only 2 locations (the other one is in Montgomery Square), they also serve Aglamesis Brothers ice cream at Iris Book Cafe downtown on Main St.

my happy place.  get a sundae.  the best ones are the swiss raspberry or swiss strawberry.  the ice cream itself is fine but what you are really going for is the amazing rich fluffy delicious fresh whipped cream with the fruit folded right into it. holy hell.

You step into this Oakley shop and you step into the 20s (or at least the romanticized portrayals of it I see in movies).  Wireframe chairbacks, counter stools, marble-top tables, long glass display cases.  It makes me want to call the workers "soda jerks" (but jerks they are not).

Their flavors tend to be less sumptuous and decadent than Graeter's, but more fresh and vibrant.  The banana, for instance, is a perfect example.  It isn't overly creamy, but more fruity and banana-y.  Perfect for runners and monkeys.  The strawberry has lots of strawberries.  (Hint: those two make a great double-dip).

The real draw is the history and ambience.  It's a nostalgic escape to a century ago (2008 is their hundredth anniversary!), plus a hefty topping of good taste.

Ice cream is one of my favorite things.  Ever.  I had been hearing about Aglamesis Bros. for quite a while, and finally went to go check it out today.  It literally is like stepping into a time warp.  It would make it complete if the servers wore hats.  The dishes the ice cream came in were so cool and traditional.  I haven't ever seen them used before!

I got a nectar float, which was super tasty.  I was able to sample some of the raspberry chip and mocha chip ice cream.  They were also very good, but I do have to agree with my dining companion, Graeters has them beat with the chips.  They just don't melt in your mouth the same way.

A little pricier, but totally worth it for the experience.  A trip here is a must!

I love Aglamesis Bros. With a passion. I do not go often enough (I've only been two or three times). It's way better than Graeter's in my opinion. The homemade ice cream screams quality, and the inside of the shop is so cute! I drool all over the displays with the chocolate truffles and treats while I wait for my ice cream cone (OK not really, but seriously. They look amazing.) The service is good, too, and the staff is helpful.

The prices for the ice cream are reasonable, but the homemade candy is more expensive - thus the drooling rather than devouring. If you want really good ice cream, go to Aglamesis Bros. And if you can spare some cash, buy me some chocolate truffles. Please?

If you love old fashoned Ice Cream and want a step back into the days of sitting down and being waited on at an Ice Cream parlor, look no further. I make it a point to tell anyone who visits to check this place out. The Ice Cream is rich, the staff friendly and the atomsphere right out of the 1900's. Great for a date or to take your parents or anyone. They also have a large assortment of candies and chocolates to take home or eat there if you so please.

I am addicted to my Greaters, but when I want real old fashoned ice cream, Aglamesis is the place to go.

In the ever-controversial Cincinnati pantheon of ice cream, I've made the personal decision to shake things up, in terms of preference.  As far as I'm concerned, the rank is as follows:  1) Aglamesis, 2) Sweet Tooth, and 3) Graeter's.  While the third is undoubtedly very good ice cream, the butterfat content is way off the charts, leaving an indisputably "greasy" sensation behind.  Aglamesis has a far "purer" taste and sensory experience - the ice cream is finer, plain and simple.  Sweet Tooth lies perfectly between the two in quality - and I'm saddened to admit that I highly doubt most Cincinnatians are even aware of that little treasure of a shop, tucked away in Newport, KY.  Try it, and see what you're missing.

While a Graeter's location was nearby, my folks made sure I cut my ice cream teeth on Aglamesis.  This was at the Oakley location, back in the days of the Lunch Box diner, when the 20th Century Theatre was still awaiting a new purpose.  At that time (and until recently), you could order wonderful, simple deli sandwiches with your ice cream - complete with peppermint jelly beans, tucked alongside the potato chips.  This was incomplete without one of their exquisite chocolate malts, still (thank heavens!) served with a butter cookie over the straw.  Stainless malt containers abound - they give you the entire thing.

Their sundaes are creative and delicious - some simple, others wonderfully complex, but all beautiful.

Finally, as to the quality of their ice creams... words can't quite capture this, but I'll try.  I have always been particularly fond of their ices and sherbets - their champagne ice is astonishing, and the fruit sherbets (strawberry, raspberry and pineapple especially) are balms for the soul, any time of the year.  Their cream-based offerings are simply perfect - I recall, very fondly, their seasonal pumpkin ice cream... banana is grand, too... my god, that chocolate... you get the idea.  However, my absolute favorite was a limited run (at the time), re-introduction of a popular 1940s flavor:  pineapple-pecan.  Oh, Lord, was that ever a surprise.

I ought to mention that they use home-made whipped cream - a sweet rarity in this day and age.  As well, don't pass by their candy counter, as they make impeccable chocolates.  Enjoy the environment, too - their soda counter dates back many decades, boasting marble, brass and stained glass fittings.  This place is a history buff's dream.

Now, if only they could bring back that INCREDIBLE 1940s wallpaper - I still have visions of pink, mint and silver carousels and trees...
