When, on a glorious Friday evening in August, my husband suggested a jaunt to City Island for supper, my initial reaction was, 'Meh'.  Although I love strolling the quaint streets and admiring the beautiful Victorians, I've never actually had a great meal there (until now). In an effort to avoid another extravaganza of deep fried fish from unknown origins, I turned to my fellow Yelpers and, as usual, they did not lead me astray!  Aggie's Roll will become our new go-to spot on City Island.

Tucked between two buildings (one of which, I'm hoping, will become Aggie's indoor home, where we can enjoy delectable treats all winter long), is a the perfect oasis of kitschy and cool.  This cozy outdoor spot is packed with comfy seating options under a canopy of trees (a lot of alliteration, I know).  In the back, a charming red food truck awaits you.  The owners (one of whom, I am assuming is Aggie) were friendly and accommodating, even supplying a booster seat for our toddler.

Aggie's (according to their menu) is a proud member of the slow food movement, but don't fret about the wait because by the time our food arrived, I felt like I was on a 2 week vacation in New England.  We relaxed in the Adirondack chairs, while enjoying our delicious iced tea and lemonade.  Even my 18 month old daughter's insistence at climbing on and off my lap 1,000 times couldn't ruin the moment.  When our food did arrive, it was perfection.  The lobster roll was tender and buttery, not bathed in gobs of mayonnaise.  The French fries were thick cut slabs of potato, only lightly fried.  My husband had the fish tacos and said they were among the best he's had.  I can't wait to return so I can try the (much feted) falafel, macaroni and cheese (with lobster!), popcorn, chocolate chip cookies, clam chowder....

Do yourself a favor, and treat yourself to one of Aggie's rolls before the summer ends. Go NOW!

A lobster shack, with a front lawn worthy of a Hamptons garden party.  This is an ambitious culinary truck whose owners care about what they serve..........with the friendliest of service.

This little spot is serving lobster rolls, fish tacos, fish and chips..........

A real refreshing change from the deep fried, red sauce Italian joints that dominate City Island.

    Mini Lobster roll- $10

The whole lobsters were sitting out back- love to see that.  The chef who looked like a New England lady, cooked up my mini lobster roll fresh to order.
Huge pieces of fresh lobster on a buttered potato roll.  Honest, fresh and authentic- no mayo- this spot knocks other mass production style lobster rolls right out of the water- literally!  This could be the Rockaway Taco of City Island.  Make the trip!

The Best Food on City Island is being served out of a trailer!
Finally good clean food has come to City Island. Aggie's has the best lobster rolls on the island, a fun menu, and a fantastic staff.  My favorite item is the Chicken Salad Sandwich.
Only outdoor seating right now but the restaurant looks like it is only a few weeks away form completion.

Was working out on City Island and needed to eat. This is pretty much the only place that was still open and had vegetarian stuff. I got the grilled cheese and fries. Quite good! Service was "slow" but it's run out of a trailer in a side yard! What do you expect? Aggie and all who worked there were very nice.

Really, really great place. A quaint little food truck leaves much to the imagination. I had one fish taco (one!) and it was enough. It came with the catch of the day (I think it was fluke), cabbage, tomatoes, cilantro, lime sour cream, black bean salsa, and an orange wedge. Everything was fresh. I paired it with a bottled Izze sparkling grapefruit juice. Don't miss going here if you love seafood!

Hands down the highlight of my first-ever trip to City Island! Good, local food and very friendly service. Unfortunately they were out of lobster by the time I got there, but the fish tacos were so outstanding that I didn't feel disappointed in the least. If you're visiting City Island and only have time for one meal, skip Johnny's Reef and come here. It's so worth it.

Delicious! Tried the falafel and lobster roll, both really good but I'm sad I didn't buy some potato fries to go with the delicious meal. I guess it means I have to bike back soon! The only place on the strip that looks original and fresh. Definitely tastes fresh! Can't wait to go back (and this time get the freaking potatoes!)

Quaint trailer selling the most delicious lobster rolls.  Buttery roll, flavourable lobster and just the right amount of seasoning makes this joint a must repeat visit.  The fish taco as relayed to me by my husband was very, very good.  Heed this warning, one lobster roll or fish taco isn't enough.! The roll is quite small, so be prepared to buy two. The owners are just delightful!! They rule!!

Amazing food. I'm allergic to shellfish, so I ate the hot dogs... AMAZING!!! Definitely something for everyone, even if you're not big on seafood. Make sure you get some cookies and Irish sodabread. They are the best! :)

Love this place, a must on City Island.

love the little trailer, and picket fence...and free peanuts on the table while u wait for your food! got the mini lobster roll. it was really good. i'm not used to having lobster rolls served warm, and on a bun, because other places put them on texas toast and served cold. but, a nice change of pace! plus they give a lil bag of popcorn. for 10 bucks, it's as loaded as it can be for the size. any lobster roll is neverrrr big enough for me. HA. anyway, also got the fish taco, and it was a healthier version because it wasn't deep fried fish, it was sauteed. also, very good, but different. i think my favorite unique thing here was actually the homemade ginger ale drink. it is fantastic! the girls workin this joint are so nice too. so, enjoy that, because as u might know, u don't always get that back in the city.

In a sea of over-priced, assembly-line, mediocre at best restaurants this little gem sits unassumingly on the property next to the building that will become its permanent home.  I ate there last night and had the BEST Falafel I have EVER had.  Everything is made from scratch.  Moreover, everything is made with passion, talent and meticulous care.  Vegetables are hand picked daily from local farmers markets.  Herbs and spices that I haven't tasted in forever wake your senses and remind you there is great food to be eaten.  Clearly a labor of love.  Nothing else tastes that good.
