Review by Thomas F. G., AgeSong at Bayside Park Resident -

Opportunities exist at AgeSong to improve individual performance.  As always, it all depends on one's perspective towards life.  The variety of one's experiences can be observed and drawn upon.  For example, a new resident from Germany managed to survive experiences driving a tank in wartime Russia.  Another has happier memories as a child in Northern Italy.  Two others, very happily married, and of Japanese ancestry,  experienced World War II's internment and dislocation.  These people, residents at AgeSong, all contribute to life at the community.

Young, capable, devoted green-shirted helpers aid residents in their daily lives.  These "care partners" are indespensible, often beloved assistants.  Also helping residents are a group of mature psychologically trained and educated AgeSong Institute interns.

Entertainment regularly breaks the routine of life at Agesong Bayside Park.  Adding to the flavor a an ongoing assortment of musical concerts and films - entertainment and documentary.

Weekly jaunts in AgeSong's reliably maintained bus provide a broader horizon for participants.  Recently, a tour took residents to beautiful Tiburon, across the Bay.

Life at AgeSong Bayside Park can become a happy time for retired residents!

I play in a band that entertains at senior residences around the Bay Area.  We recently played for Agesong at Bayside Park.  It is a very nice, clean facility.  The staff I saw seemed very caring.  After we played for the residents they asked us to go up to the "Memory Unit" to play for the dementia patients, "because it means so much to them."

We went upstairs and played for about 20 of the older and more frail-looking patients.  It is amazing how music gets into the brains of people whose recent memories are pretty shot.  I think every person there reacted in some way to the music.

I want to say something particularly nice about the recreation director, a woman named Kerri.  She interacts with the residents in a loving, personal way.  She enticed the dementia patients one at a time out of their chairs to "dance" with her.  I've met many rec directors as our band travels around.  They are all nice people (or they wouldn't be in this job) but Kerri is really special.

I had a loved one here and can say it is an awful place. Good in concept-helping elders finding fulfillment in their later years. But the place is too big, too understaffed , the staff too low paid and too lowly paid to really provide care to the frail elderly.  They have 2 people for 15 patients.  All kinds of things got neglected, you can wander the halls for long periods of time and not find help, the managment is terrible. I wouldn't wish this place on any elderly who needed care. Don't pay the money for this "community". It is not worth it.

I recently had the pleasure to have a tour of AgeSong at Bayside Park.  AgeSong is an incredible facility with highly professional and deeply caring staff.  It is much more than just a retirement facility.  Great care has gone into the environment and space to meet the needs of people who need special care due to forgetfulness (dementia) or other emotional issues due to aging.  As a health care professional myself, I felt how warm and caring the staff of that community were with the residents.  I highly recommend that you check out AgeSong as a possible resource for family and friends you care deeply about.  Jay Sordean, Acupuncture and NRCT, Brain Function Expert, The Redwood Clinic, Berkeley CA

Agesong at Bayside Park is amazing in every way - the level of care offered to the residents, the price (VERY reasonable), the beauty of the atmosphere there, the spaciousness, the cleanliness. Most of all, when we moved my mother-in-law there, we felt that she was really seen and taken care of as a member of the Agesong family. My husband and I would pop in at all hours of the day and night, and they were always delighted to see us. When my mother-in-law was dying, they would spot one or other of us coming in and quietly order a meal for us in case we were hungry. We had hospice for the last couple of months (SUTTER HOSPICE, EMERYVILLE - another awesomely wonderful service - ph 510 450-8724), and Agesong liaised with the hospice people beautifully. Every single resident at Agesong is treated as the unique person he or she is. They have their own exercise programs and exercise room; there is a little warm wading pool up on one of the floors, near the flowers and bird feeders; there are loads of volunteers and activity programs... It was beyond our wildest hopes for a place to which to move my mother-in-law, and as I mentioned, we could not believe how low the price is. Notably wonderful care managers: JOSIE, VIVIAN, ALICIA, all located on the 'memory' floor (there are other floors dedicated to people who don't have memory problems but may be physically incapacitated or just want a community.)
