One of my favorite restaurants in Healdsburg - everything is super fresh, reasonably priced and damn tasty!  If you like spicy try the Camarones Ala Diabla - soo good.

Big fan. Quality Mexican food with a huge menu. They have a tequila bar, although I haven't had any drinks there yet. The burritos, quesadillas and taco salad are delish. The salsa, chip and guacamole are fresh and you can't go without ordering them.

Nice ambience, good service and clean. High recommended.

There's a reason Agave consistently gets high marks -- the margaritas cloud your judgement  ;o)

Seriously tho - I've ordered a number of dishes at Agave over the course of several visits - from burritos ("regular"), to Camarones Ala Diabla , a couple of mole dishes (enchiladas, chicken in tortillas), taquitos.... the only dish I thought was a little boring (and perhaps undersized) was the fish tacos. Everything else: Fantastico!

The only downside is that I get to darned full on the tasty chips & salsa, so if you go, just say "no" to a second basket.

There are a couple of other Mexican joints in the 'burg (El Farolito - owned by the brother of the owner of Agave, Taqueria Guadalajara, and Taqueria El Sombrero). Agave might be a tad more spendy, but worth every peso. Haven't tried Cocina Latino yet, so can't compare (yet).

TIP: Although Agave serves several different margaritas, order the least expensive "fancy" 'rita -- they may look different, but they are generally comparable in taste. Or, stick with the house 'rita if you must. Several decent cervezas on draft, too!

Off the wall thought: With so many Mexican and Italian restaurant choices (not to mention "Cali Cuisine"), why only two Chinese restaurants?

So, this is a review I started on my phone back in July 11 and I'm finally getting around to posting it (wish the mobile app would let us post straight from the phone).

Anyways, moving on....the Peach Agua fresca was so delicious!! Our server told us it was made  with peaches delivered fresh that morning from someone's orchard.

I was totally disappointed though because a big group of us came for breakfast one morning and all I wanted was the  carnitas breakfast burrito. So sad and devastated when the server told us they didn't have any carnitas because they weren't ready yet,and wouldn't be ready until lunch time. Uhm , then wtf do you have a carnitas breakfast burrito listed for if they aren't going to be ready in the morning? Hmmm, very sad but I'm guessing this doesn't happen all of the time and was just an isolated incident.

Food we did have was good...everyone in our group really ejoyed it. Oh and the micheladas are muy delicioso!

Good food.  Atmosphere was fine.  I did not like that it was in a Strip Mall as we were on Vacation and preferred staying in the more touristy area...but we wanted an inexpensive meal with good food and we trusted Yelper's reviews! Besides, had it been in the square...the prices would have jumped anyway! .. So we gave it a try.  It definitely was the right place to go!  I did not give a 5 star because based on another yelper's review of the fish taco...I ordered them.  This is one of my favorite meals at any restaurant  (that offers fish tacos)...even Cheesecake Factory!  But this was very disappointing for me.  The fish was "fishy smelling" and did not seem as fresh.  Out of the 4 meals ordered...mine was the most disappointing.  The other meals were delicious...of course we had to try each others!  The complimentary nachos and salsa were excellent!

After a long run (16 miles?) around Lake Sonoma, we were looking for some tasty and nutritious food before driving back to SF. A few locals outside a bar, who were extremely friendly, directed us to Agave, and we were happy to go somewhere well-liked by locals, and that wasn't Taqueria El Sombrero (see review). The servers were extremely attendant, fast, and friendly, constantly refilling our water glasses and asking if we needed anything. The food came out quickly (and we were HUNGRY, so we were sensitive to the time), was delicious, and a good value. My other half got the veggie burrito, well done with pinto beans, veggies, avocado, and I got the huevos rancheros, with well-cooked eggs, ranchero sauce (I prefer green, but this was good despite that), tortillas, beans, and rice. Please give these guys your business, not Sombrero!

Amazing ! By far one of the best mexican places I have been too! The margaritas are smooth and will creep up on ya ! The food is fresh and well executed ... My hubby had the diegos burrito ( amazing flavor)  and I had the diablo shrimp dish .... The diablo is not for the weary ... It is truly flavorful but extremely spicy ! I loved it! The menu is well rounded and easy to decide on the dish of your choice !  The atmosphere is casual and relaxing which we loved after a day of kayaking . Come here it will not dissapoint!

Super Bowl Sunday - include a movie with the wife and early dinner at Agave Mexicana Restaurant. This was our first visit to Agave, but will not be our last.

My wife order the Tostadas Chilangas which was a new Mexican dish for her. She very much liked the dish and said the chicken marinade was delicious with just a hint of spicy.

I order the Posole - a weekend special. A large serving of tasty broth with lots of hominy and two pieces of pork neck bones. I would have preferred this a bit more picante, but wanted to give the restaurant's undoctored version a taste. The soup was accompanied with cilantro, onions, cabbage and limes.

The chap that appeared to be the owner stopped by as were we finishing to ask about our meal. He made the rounds of all the customers. The service was very good - a waitress we knew from another now defunct restaurant.

I made a reservation at this place mostly by accident - I saw the great Yelp reviews and I thought it was another place on the main street.  I mean, you don't normally expect to eat in the mall when you go to Healdsburg, right?  Anyways, this place serves unconscionable quantities of pretty good food - I had half the queso fundido appetizer and I was already full...I somehow worked my way through the fish tacos after that.

It doesn't really have the romantic factor that some of the other restaurants in this town do, but once you've been up here a couple of times, you'll find yourself debating whether you really want to drop $80 at some place with bad reviews and bad service...Remember that you can come here and have pretty good food for less than $20.

First of all, i love the atmosphere!  It's a "wow, hey guys we need to book a trip to cancun mexico or something"  or "hey honey, lets take some salsa dance classes"  kinda feel.  Very upbeat.

For the food,  BEST GUACAMOLE.  I could eat like ice cream.  Addicted to the steak tacos & there prawn dishes on the menu.  So so good.  Btw, best margaritas i ever had.  I had margaritas when i was damn near the mexican border & they werent even that good.

Food was great. Specials of the Day sounded really good (white chanterelles? I'm impressed!). I got take-out: tamal de mole, veggie burrito, and molotes. The molotes were good, and my friend liked her veggie burrito, but the tamal was very disappointing. It was mostly banana leaf. I unfolded it and my first thought was "where's the tamal?" There were literally TWO bites inside. I can't remember how much it was because it's not on the online menu (I want to say about $8) -- so I expected, you know, a MEAL.

I am going to call them next time I'm in Healdsburg and see if they will make it right. I was shocked and hope it was a mistake to include such a tiny tamal!

I have been very impressed by this place.  Any Mexican restaurant that makes me think twice about El Sombrero being the best in the area, must be good.  El sombrero has better salsa, but I think the Guacamole at Agave is slightly better.  As for tacos, they are different yet comparable in quality.  I have yet to try a burrito from Agave, so can't say if they are better or worse then El sombrero, but I think El Sombrero would be hard to beat.  Next time I am in the area I'll give an Agave burrito a shot.

    let's begin-

    1. First off I am a native Californian and have had a lot of Mexican food.
    2. I love Healdsburg
    3. I am picky and opinionated

Now, can I say that this place was perfection. The fish tacos were to die for and the tamales were perfect. Oh and did I forget to mention the margarita  was also one of the best I have ever- I mean ever had.

Chips and salsa fresh and just enough spice. Agave is the best I have ever had and I have been to almost all of the Mexican restaurants in Sonoma County.

If you ever visit Healdsburg come here after wine tasting. A great night cap. Just enough spice :)

Service was a bit odd.  We were either overwhelmed with  our server's presence or she was nowhere to be found.  At one point, she told another girl to bring out a coke that nobody had ordered.

My sister's Chef's Special was underwhelming and she wasn't too thrilled with it.  I ordered a taco salad, which was decent, but how do you mess up a taco salad?  My mom ordered camerones in a ranchero sauce which she absolutely loved.

Prices were better than I expected.  Most entrees are $10 or below.

Agave has become my favorite Mexican joint in Healdsburg (and there's a ton of them.)
Food is always fresh, amazing, hot, and well priced. The staff is awesome and the owner is often out on the floor talking with his patrons, trying to find out how to keep the people happy. It's one of the few restaurants out there that want's you to be satisfied.
Since I've only been here while working, I haven't tried their tequila bar, but I have heard nothing but great things!

One of my favorite restaurants in Healdsburg. Terrific authentic flavors that are super fresh. A big plus is that it's inexpensive and has great service.

We had beef, carnitas and el pastor soft tacos. All were fantastic, but the el pastor was amazing! Also had a chicken tamale with homemade black mole sauce. Delicious! We've been to Oaxaca, home of mole, and this was some of the best.

Also, the tortilla chips are served warm and not a sign of oil. The salsa was very good with the perfect balance of flavors and heat.

Located in the Safeway shopping center next to Starbucks and UPS store.

Visiting the area, locals told us this is THE place to go for Mexican. Wow we were not disappointed! The guacamole was creamy and fresh. I had the fish taco which really was more like a fish burrito. Delicious and fresh, no heavy fried fish just lightly grilled. Great find, fast and friendly service!!

Absolutely best mexican restaurant in town. The soft tacos w/carnitas are over the top. Perhaps I should expand on my choices, but I just can't..... they are soooo good! The owner and his brother are like family and the staff knows exactly what we want and how we want it... don't need the menu. And the margaritas..... hang on to your horses.... never had anything so delicious!

popped in for lunch today.  First off, I want to say that i love what they've done with the place.  I was always a fan of the old taco shop that occupied this spot, but they really did a nice job with sprucing it up.

secondly i was seated, handed a real menu

    and then served yummy food.

I had the cerviche which was awesome $7 for two tostadas. however, not a whole heck of a lot of fish in the cerviche - it tasted great, but I would have liked more fish in the mix.

salsa had a great spicy quality you don't usually find.

i also ate a kids bean and cheese burrito because I was totally craving one.  With a diet coke, my bill came to $12.50 for lunch.

    Not bad.

Great service, and will definately be back soon!

Great service but the mole was not nearly as good as the mole at Maria Bonita in Ventura, California. Nice place to dine on the patio and the owner was saying how good their Margaritas were. The horchata was very good and was served with fresh grated nutmeg on top, but I'm so spoiled by the mole at Maria Bonita that I have a difficult time finding a good mole restaurant in the Bay Area.

I love Agave Mexican Restaurant.  I have tried all the Mexican Food restaurants in Healdsburg, and while each place offers something special that the other may lack, Agave Mexican Restaurant seems to offer a little more.  I love their fresh flavors and that they use local ingredients.  The owner is usally there when I pop in for lunch and is always cheeful and nice to me.  I love their salsa and their burritos are great -- I can usually make a second meal out of one since they are so filling.  I usually order my food to-go and this past week I actually ate inside with a friend.  It was packed and I can see where some others have commented on the service being "odd" -- we had two people come to our table, but our order still arrived faster than expected with the amount of people in the restaurant and the large party/event that was going on.

Was referred to this restaurant by a friend / neighbor. I love Mexican food and wanted to try something new as I live in Healdsburg and feel like I eat at the same places all the time.

Agave was awesome. First, it's clean and comfortable. It's next to safeway and was way better inside than i anticipated.

The food was off the hook, so so good. I had an enchilada, grilled chicken soft taco and red rice with beans. There was something in the chicken taco, some spice, I couldn't identify. It was delicious. The guacamole was also delish - another flavor present that I had not tasted before, but made it just that little bit different and so good.
My hubbie has steak fajitas. He thought they were great. The owner was walking around the restaurant talking to all the tables, which was nice. The table next to us had chicken Mole and it looked great - I will be ordering that on the next visit. Also, some sort of tamale dish. The combination of a really nice, clean atmosphere and great food, I mean really good, is a nice change of pace. The owner said everything was made fresh daily. It tasted that way. Prices very good, too.

My dinner was  just o.k.,  my dinner companion loved her dinner.  I had a major problem with the service.  We put in our drink order and our dinner order and the dinner came out in about 5 minutes...but no drinks...no drinks...no drinks...I finally went directly to the bar where the bartender told me "artistry takes time, muchaco..."  Then I got overcharged for the drinks and had to send the check back.  They did take the sparkling water off the tab as an apology.  Don' t know if I will go back.

My wife and I have become a huge fan of this restaurant. We were fans of the old Taquiria, and continued to go during the change of ownership.

The food has only gotten better and the service is always personable and pleasant. The owner is often there greeting people and even tweaked some of the sauces to match our taste.

They have been BBQing Oysters many Sundays and the price is very reasonable ($19/doz and $10/half.)

They recently got a full liquor license so Agave and now serve real Agave margaritas and other drinks.

I'd say give it a try.

This is one of my favorite Mexican restaurants in Sonoma County. I wouldn't say it's a toco shop it's more of a dinning experience which I'll be back soon. This is in my top three places in getting a burrito.

Actually 3 1/2 stars- I was pleasantly surprised by how good the carne asada taco was. The meat was really delicious, not greasy. I was happy with the vegetable taco but I have been so spoiled in the bay that my standards are a little high. I would say less cheese, sour cream and rice drenching the taco and more fresh, vegetable. Otherwise, it was great and extremely affordable. Also the owner was working and very friendly. A great addition to town. Maybe after trying a few more things, I will bump it up to 4 stars!

I chose this restaurant because of the reviews on YELP. The food was good, the margarita was better. The service was not. I was in at 11:45, not crowded, maybe 8 tables total were being served. I was never asked how anything was after the food was given to me, I had to ask for my check and get up to pay my bill. For $20 I could have eaten at another establishment. If you are a regular at their restaurant, then I would suggest going since they like the regulars. they spend most of their time talking to them.  If you are a visiting tourist, DO NOT GO..You can get decent margaritas some place else
