Its fresh, tasty and they have a healthy options too (cholesterol free beans). We're used to eating very good Mexican food in the bay area and were not impressed with the mexican fare at key largo. Agave came as a pleasant change. Its a lil' bit a of challenge for us finding good vegetarian food in the keys (hubby and I are complete vegetarians) but Agave did a great job at providing us a satisfying meal.
The chips were a tad different and tasty (also just freshly made), the rice+beans+veggie platter that they sort of custom made for us (it was a burrito with no tortilla, no cheese and lot more veggies) was delicious. If you're in the keys, make sure you stop here! -

Food: 7.5/10 Different items had different qualities. Burrito was meh while the Chimichangas, steak fajitas, and fried ice cream were great! Two things I miss that were not there from my last visit were the stringy beef option instead of ground beef and the cabbage dip for the tortilla chips.
Service: 9/10 Service was fast and frequent. Employees constantly were bringing us more drinks, chips, and salsa nearly the second we ran out of anything. The only service flaw was that some of the employees did not understand English.
Atmosphere: 8/10 Besides the extremely annoying other people eating there the atmosphere was nice. Upbeat Mexican music with the walls painted nicely. Nothing extremely unique but nothing wrong.
Summary: Good food with great staff make this one of my favorite Mexican restaurants. However some things were missing from past visits. Still very good. -

I use to frequent this restaurant all the time. Was pretty decent. They switched the homemade salsa to a runny tomato paste that looks like it was poured right out of a sysco I'm bummed they changed owners and menu. The menu is very limited. Ordering was such a hassle bc waiter didn't know what menu items were, ended up having tortilla soup, pretty much more tomato broth (like the salsa) with added chicken stock not chicken pieces, beware of choice of place mat they are bacteria grounds . Rope/ plastic braided place mats that save food after the diner has left....

Ok so the drinks are great but the food, service and price are terrible.$13 for a burrito and the fajitas we ordered didn't even come with pico, cheese or lettuce. Either that or the wait staff was incompetent.
The two tables around us both complained about the menu. They just changed it the day we got there I'm not sure if that was to raise the prices before the holiday weekend but man I was not impressed at all.
Save your money unless you just want to drink. If they come around and lower the prices for what we ordered AND it was prepared well I would add another star. -

The chips were way over-salted and the salsa was boring.

Do not come here. Overpriced and not authentic mexican food. Not worth spending a dime at.

Great Mexican restaurant, probably the best in all of the Florida Keys.
It's a relatively new restaurant, run by a family out of Jalisco/Colima, on the Pacific Coast of Mexico.
The food is amazingly good and authentic, very reasonably priced. My wife and I shared a Chicken Mole ($14), two Chile Rellenos as a side order (outstanding, probably the best!!!) and a huge margarita, all for under $40, including tips.
Upon being seated in a cozy room, you get a full basket of warm totopos (chips) with a great salsa and a nice portion of cold, spicy salad. When your order arrive, you will be amazed at the huge size of the portions being served.
Locals (Florida Keys residents) get a discount, if you tell your waiter where you live.
In spite of what the first reviewer wrote, this is not a Tex-Mex restaurant, it's truly authentic Mexican. -

Meh, I've definitely had better! I was in the mood for some Mexican after sitting on the beach all day. We asked our front desk if there was any around and this place wasn't too far. The service was O.K. nothing terrible, but they didn't do anything special either. I had an enchilada that was pretty bland & the salsa that came with the chips was bland, so that didn't help kick anything up. Plus, the waitress didn't check to see how things were so, there was no one to ask for hot sauce, sigh..... so, not the worst I've ever had, but there is definitely better around. It's just bla & they don't really have any choices for vegetarians (cheese enchilada's is about all you get - just FYI).

What a nice break from the local fare. This is a Tex-Mex restaurant with good food, very-friendly service, and reasonable prices for the amount of food you get. Went there for lunch on Sunday afternoon. Two meals, one soda, one side of guac., and chips-and-salsa for $23.00. The good food stuffed us and we couldn't finish the meals.

Yuck! Drove 30 miles for this medicre at best meal. Avoid at all costs if you are down there. I asked for no cheese & instead got a bag of melted crappiness on my gross burrito. I think taco bell would have been a better choice

Obviously they have raised the prices since some of these reviews. We where shocked by the prices, this is the most expensive mexican restaurant I've ever been to. If it had been worth the price, I wouldn't complain but the food was just average and the service was lousy. The chips where super salty and the salsa was a bit bland. I ordered chicken fajitas, came with flour tortillas, sour cream, guacamole, lettuce, tomatoes, black beans and rice. It was a large portion but it was just average (and very oily, they looked like someone had poured a few tbsp of grease over them before serving so unless you have a tuff stomach AVOID), nothing special about them and not worth $20. My husband got the beef tacos which were ok but for 3 tacos at $15...really? Our waiter took our order, someone else got the drinks, he dropped our food off and we didn't see him again until after waiting forever we asked someone to find him for us to get the check. It took us at least 10 min to get our card back and we where out of there. We are local, so to bad for them they'll be missing out on regulars.
