Review from Dan S.
Piedmont, CA
I've been using this place for annual Xmas cards and some earlier photo development for 17 years. I've always been satisfied with their work and they've always demontrated utmost patience when I wanted to tweak a photo to get it perfect. Very prompt work - typically 1-day turnaround. They are local and not some chain, what's not to like?

I have never had any printing issues with any of my prints until I used this location. I brought in a bunch of old negatives and wanted to make copies of my childhood photos. They took the order and never told me that the prints would be a lot more than normal prints. When I went to pick up my order it was several hundred dollars and they refused to let me have my negatives back until I paid in full. I swear it was $150 more than I expected (total was around $250 - OUCH). They held my negatives hostage and I felt the only way I could get them back was to pay them. I was scared to fight it because they were the only negatives of my baby photos.
I was very nice (they had my negatives!), but the owner was very rude to me. Horrible service. And, frankly the quality was not that great for what I paid for. -

Rudest owner of a business I have ever come across. Quality was acceptable, but when I asked for changes to my order a couple times (changes I was more than willing to pay for), I was rudely and forcefully scolded by the owner for wasting her employee's time.
I wasn't aware that availing myself of a store's services would be considered wasting their time.
I have never been so offended during a retail transaction in my lifetime. -

Family-owned and local... 'nuff said...
I'm biased, but I do think the work done here is great, and the range of services offered is pretty wide -- B&W, E-6, analog and digital photo processing, DVD transfers and passports are all done in-house which is pretty rare for most photoshops in the Bay Area -

I dropped off some work. My instructions were not clear. They didnt call to ask for clarification. I came to pickup work (the day before mothers day for mothersday). They printed the wrong pics! I offered to pay for half and re-order. The clerk (generously) told me I should pay for the ones that where wrong, they he would print the right one (rush) and I that I could pick them up later (no further charges - he said he should have called clarify my order).
I went later to pick them up. New clerks tells me I have to pay for them and only the owner can comp the pics. "She will be in tomorrow and she will refund then." Next day owner says she will not refund because I should have complained when I first picked them up.
Yikes. Beware, if anything goes wrong... -

went there Dec 2007 to have a digital photo printed.
person behind the counter didn't even know how to operate the computer (I mean simple basic Windows stuff, like "double-click this icon and the program will open")
my digial photo needed to be cropped (width and height disproportionately) as I wanted to put the photo into a special frame.
so literally after 10 minutes of frustratingly watch this incompetent person try to manipulate the photo on Adobe Photoshop, she tells me the picture will cost about $16 for an 8x6 size.
WHAAAAT!!!
I tell her no thanks.
She tells me "well, why are you wasting my time."
It was at 10AM and not another soul in the store.
This place sucks, customer service sucks, prices suck, old computers, people are not trained, and VERY UNPROFESSIONAL.
I decided to alter the photo myself using GIMP and printed it on http://Kodakgallery.co.... -

This place is a great small, family owned establishment. Of course, no place is perfect, but Ag Photo offers a wide variety of services that you just don't find anymore. They are a little on the pricey side, but I think that the work is usually worth it. If you have any complaints you can take them up with the owner and she'll try to work something out. Beware that sometimes she can be a little eccentric, but she reminds me a lot of my own mother.
I lucked out when I first came here ( I was recommended by a friend), as I had a roll of slides that I needed to develop so I could send some out at the end of the week. I thought that they would have to send it out, but they actually did the slide developing in-house! It turns out that they do almost everything that a custom lab does in house including E-6, B/W, and color developing not just for regular 35 mm, but for medium format too! The owner assured me that she sees to the chemistry personally, and I haven't had much to complain in terms of my negatives! They seem like they will take care of my negatives and make sure nothing happens to them ( I've had some photo's restored and the original came back the same as when I left it there)
haven't done much digital with them, but its nice to know that their kiosks print to silver halide (like an old photograph) rather than ink jet. -

Unfortunately, the customer service at AG Photo is less than par. The owner was extremely rude when I questioned the new and not clearly stated switch to a $5 minimum purchase of photos online. I paid $5 for 4 4x6 prints, which is outrageous. I will not purchase any photos here again - they are great only if there is no issue. Otherwise, beware.
