Great book store, friendly staff and they always have great deals. Plus you can almost always get store credit for your old books as well.

This place has been open for more than a year, and I finally made my first trip on Friday. My Book Buddy and I bought a good mix of hardcover and softcover, all in great shape, and 60% to 90% off list price (% discount conveniently noted on receipt). If I understood sales-guy correctly, Afterwords will buy your used books at up to 20% of list price (see credit and condition policies on the store's website). If you bought your book here, the margin on return is greater. Better than Borders? If the book you want is in stock, Afterwords is better than Amazon!

Very cute with a big selection. Everything is always on sale and you can get books for only a dollar. Awesome kids books too! So cheap and they have the old good ones!

Very cute little place, ideally located on Main St.! We come here frequently when we're in town, mainly for children's books, and the selection of high-quality children's literature is actually impressive for such a small store. They also have regular events for kids and families, including story time and craft activities for little ones. That said, I sometimes think the staff is regrettably unaware of what books are actually appropriate for kids-- I think they are open-minded, and that's great...but I hate to see  nasty, snarky, scary, sexy, and otherwise annoying young-adult books mixed in with the awesome ones for the elementary level readers. Also, for the younger set there are more worthless tv-and-movie themed books than I would expect. It's not helpful when the staff make suggestions. I have to be on alert and pay full attention when I'm helping my kids make choices from the elementary-level selection, rather than just letting them go for it and choose whatever seems appealing. Just an FYI for parents out there. But at the same time, the staff at Afterwords are extremely friendly, chatty, and helpful about making purchases, willing to assist you by ordering online whatever books you may be looking for, if they don't have them in stock. They seem to love their jobs, and shopping here is always a fun part of our visits to downtown Edwardsville. The kids can use their allowance money to buy new books (along with some penny candy from the Goshen Market up the street) and it's a win-win situation! Also, buying used books is environmentally friendly!
