I discovered I needed two new tires when I brought my car in for an oil change (to a different shop) and was handed an estimate for a $370 tire change. $370 seemed absurd for 2 new tires, so I came across Affordable Tire and Brake on Yelp and called them up to get a quote. They quoted me two options- cheaper tires for $199 total or the consumer reports recommended nicer tires for $239 total. Well that seemed much more reasonable! They were able to see my car the day I called and changed the tire in less than an hour while I waited. The people were friendly and helpful in providing me the information I needed.
When it came time to pay, they said I might need an alignment but I should check if i'd had one done in the last 15,000 miles because they didn't want me to pay for work I didn't need. I told him I was pretty sure I hadn't, but he insisted I check because he didn't want me to have to pay for work I didn't need. So i went home and checked and did indeed need one. I brought the car back 2 days later for the alignment ($79.99). In retrospect, I wish they had just done the alignment when I first came in since I was pretty sure I did need it, especially since my tire wear was uneven, but I appreciate the gesture of trying to prevent me from paying for work I don't need. When I came to pick up my car, the guy there explained about the alignment work they had done and possible things that could be causing any problems.
Additionally, having my tires done there means free balances and rotations for the life of the tire. I don't have much of an idea of what that all means, but it sounds nice! I know the tire rotation is a good thing anyways! I will definitely be bringing my car back for upcoming service appointments and oil changes, thanks for the affordable prices, friendly service, and clear explanations! -

I called up Affordable Tire because my boyfriend had a flat, and they were $100 dollars less than stupid Firestone. AND they could replace the tire that same day, not Monday. And they were NICE on the phone.
Immediately upon walking in to the joint, I knew this was better than all of the other mechanics I've been going to. It didn't smell like death and rubber. The other ladies in the waiting lobby were joking with the shop manager. I felt okay about sitting in their chairs without risk of scabies. I left happy and feeling like I'd saved my beau a good chunk of change and been a Supergirlfriend for fixing his tire during his workday.
Then, my car took a dump in my wallet. No brakes. I called Brandon at Affordable, the shop manager guy. They were able to get working on my car as soon as my schedule allowed. Not only did the mechanic magician dude Steve fix it the same day I dropped it off, but they took the time to educate me on what they fixed, what the parts do in a car, and at no time did I feel dumb. The work they did would have cost double at the place I normally go to on the Eastside, easily.
They even noticed an unrelated fuel line leak, and offered to order in the tube (see how much about cars I know? TUBE....), and replace it for me free of charge when it came in.
I feel super lucky to have found out about this place. Since coming here, I've recommended it to plenty of my homies, and found out that people I admire already come here to get their automobile repairs done. If only I had known about them sooner!! Four thumbs up. -

Wow. These guys are awesome. I came in without an appointment for an oil change and they were able to fit me in that day. They called me a couple hours later, telling me my tires were not aligned at all and my two front tires should be changed. They politely explained to me the problem and the different prices of the tires as well as the descriptions of each kind of tire. This was extremely helpful as someone who does not know cars very well. When I went to go pick up my car, Tony (nicest guy ever!) explained to me in detail what they fixed, and kindly told me to bring my car in if I ever have any troubles. The service was spectacular and the people are so nice. They don't try to make you buy any extra services that you don't need. The only problem I had was that I was supposed to pick my car up around 5:30 the day I dropped it off, but then it got extended to the next day...they had told me it will be done around 10 the next morning but instead it was done around noon. But that doesn't stop me from going here again. :)

This update has been a long time coming. After almost two years, my brakes are still good! The place is in a good location, the service is great, and obviously they also fixed my issue. I also got a satisfactory oil change here once too!

I can only echo the reviews that have already been written about this place. I had a frustrating and tumultuous weekend dealing with flat tires, tow trucks, and the insurance company. The greatest relief of the weekend was dealing with the guys at Affordable Tire and Brake.
They were very friendly and helpful. In fact, the guy that got there before me was clearly a regular and they personally drove him home after he dropped off his car.
The only real downside to this location is that they didn't have their own parking lot. When I had to leave a car overnight it was parked on the street, and when my car was finished the dropped it off at a restaurant three driveways down.
These, however, were minor inconveniences and didn't really effect the overall very positive experience. -

I had a slow leak in one of my tires, so I took my car to Affordable Tire and Brake in the U District. They are busy, guys, so call ahead and see if they have time for you. I had to make an appointment for the following day. The dude who helped me was very nice. While they were looking at my tires, I walked to nearby Full Tilt Ice Cream and got a Cookies and Cream. Nice! When I came back, they had fixed the leak and they didn't even charge me. Free, super nice service? Can every place be like this, please?

I've never had to deal with any car stuff before - and I also don't really know much about cars. So when my car starts smoking up a storm on the way home from work...my life kind of flashed before my eyes. I was scared! For my life, one, but also for my car because it's my baby! Haha, anyway I had been looking into finding a mechanic here in Seattle anyway, and well gee now I certainly had a good reason to go find one.
My co-worker recommended this place to me, saying that they had good customer service, and most importantly, that they wouldn't try to scam me or make me pay a ridiculous amount. And she was so right - these guys are awesome! The manager Brandon is extremely nice and courteous, and he even physically took me into the shop and showed me what was wrong with my car as well as how they fixed it. That was really nice because he taught me something!
I'm very happy with the work they did, and they're definitely my main mechanics now! -

I've changed the way I rate places. No one gets five stars unless they go above and beyond. Affordable Tire and Brake qualifies.
I walked in there and gave them carte blanche to do whatever needed to be done. I said that I needed tires, brakes, fluids replaced, and a tune up. They called back and said they checked everything and the only thing I needed was tires and even then I could wait a little longer if I wanted.
Now, I usually hold auto mechanics in the same category as salesmen and lawyers. It's always my assumption that they will get whatever they think they can out of me. I never had a mechanic tell me I didn't need something done.
I was going on a long road trip, so I did want the tires replaced. I got four high-end all-weather tires and a front-end allignment for under $700 and all done the same day. That's pretty good in my book. -

I got a flat tire on my lunch break and was in complete panic mode. I Googled local tire places, called them and they said to come right in. They walked me though the most efficient way to go about purchasing a new or used tire, and got it replaced in a matter of 30 minutes. The customer service was outstanding. Brandon, who was the main person I dealt with, was fun yet professional and easy to give my money to :)
Eves dropping, I overheard a woman asking Corey (mechanic) many questions about what the services included, prices, what services she might get a couple more miles on and so forth, and they were all eager to help and breakdown every cost and part. They even suggested she shop around so she'd feel comfortable. She said "Trust is a big thing with me and in the last two days of dealing with you guys, it would be money worth spent even if it were a couple dollars less than somewhere else" (though assured they are the cheapest around and make sure they shop, match and lower prices frequently)
I now have them on speed dial and am recommending them to anyone in need of their services. -

These guys are awesome! My dealership told me that I needed new brakes when I went in for a service. The cost was so high that I told the dealership 'no thanks'. I then went across the street to Affordable tire and brake. They checked my brakes, told me they were fine, then showed me they were fine, and sent me home without charging me a dime! I didnt even know that auto repair shops would ever do that!
Will come again! -

Let me just say that this is the BEST place to get personable and professional service. I've taken 2-3 flat tires here over the last 4 years and each time got the best service. I felt like part of the family by these guys and they always had a smile and made my day better.

Awesome! This is an honest to goodness great shop.
They are knowledgable in all makes and models. B Pierre Chevrolet bid $650 for my Tahoe's front brakes and rotors and my rears were very close to needing replacement. Affordable did my fronts for $450 and said my rear brakes were fine with 60% left.
Super spot, honest and fast.... -

Was looking for a place that I could get some "rare" or "out of stock" tires for my car today. After several places telling me there aren't any around or trying to charge me an arm, leg and half an eyeball, I found Affordable Tire and Brake. On a Saturday afternoon, I went in there talked to Son, he said he could take care of everything I needed for less than half of what other shops quoted me. I got two new (used) tires for my car, he fixed my spare and rotated them all for about $150 less than I thought it was going to cost.
The guys at Affordable are great, knowledgeable and extremely courteous. I definitely recommend them and will be going back for work on my brakes soon!
Thanks fellas!!!! You made my weekend! -

I went here because my cousin recommended it after he read good reviews about it. I've been taking my vehicle here for about a year now at least. The customer service is excellent. The employees are very friendly and go out of their way to explain what's going on with your vehicle. I would say the prices are on par with most of the other shops as well, but not a real bargain. The only reason I dd not give 5 stars was because they were not able to diagnose a problem with the brakes on my girlfriend's car. There were loud noises as the brakes were being applied and they were not able to figure it out. I expected more from a shop specializing in brakes.

On my way to work this morning I noticed my tire was flat! I put the spare on and later in the day took it in to Affordable Tire and Brake. Correy (sp?) helped me out immediately and after fixing my tire and checking my breaks I asked Brandon how much I owed them. "Nothing," he said. I guess I have found my new auto technicians!
They have definately made me a life long customer.
Outstanding customer service

Not just tires and brakes, take your car there no matter what it needs!!!
Whenever I search all the places I love on Yelp thinking I might write a "wow this place is great" review it always ends the same way. Inevitably, there are 15 or so 5 star reviews already there plus the ever-present 1 or 2 sour pusses that feel the need to vocalize their negativity and I think, "hey, that's enough, they don't need my two cents" and I move on with my day.
Imagine my surprise to find Affordable Tire and Brake uncharted territory. I've taken my car to them a few times and have always had great and timely service. They are more than fairly priced and do the work quickly. They will beat estimates from competitors and Rick, the manager I think, has a great sense of humor.
They sent me a thank you card after I bought my tires, how classy is that! -
Review from katya l.
I don't know what to think of this place. The boy took his Honda there last summer for repairs and they were quick, pleasant and relatively inexpensive for the massive work they had to do. I brought my car there once for a flat tire and they changed it for free and were super nice about it.
However, the last time I went back, I was having an alternator issue with my car. The older gentleman that checked it said that I needed a transmission overhaul - at least he didn't try to get any money out of me and admitted that it would be useless since the car is old and in mediocre shape. When I tried to get more details out of him, he was extremely dismissive and gave me one-word answers. His attitude made me feel like he didn't want to bother explaining anything to me because I'm a female in my early 20's and wouldn't understand. I left confused and worried, took my car to Daisywagen up the street and paid $160 to change the alternator. No transmission overhaul necessary. Now I'm just confused.
I'd take my car here for small fixes, maybe something of middling importance if you're a guy. Maybe it was just the one gentleman who's got the attitude problem but it makes me reluctant to go back. -

They've had my business for over 5 years now and 2 cars. They do free flat fixes, have reasonably priced tires and are always incredibly nice. When I needed a new set of tires for my 2001 VW Golf I told them my budget and they were able to recommend a good Seattle (wet) tire.
They're also within walking distance of major bus connections from the UDistrict. -

It doesn't get any better then this place. Extremely friendly staff, fantastic service, and an "affordable" price.
This is the kind of place that gives you a free flat repair and a 20 dollar oil change.
This is the kind of place that has tire prices that rival discount tire or costco.
This is the kind of place that sends you a Christmas card.
This is the kind of place that provides you with recommendations for service without writing you up a huge estimate when you didn't ask for one. e.g. "Just wanted to let you know that we noticed your rear main seal is seeping oil a little bit. Not a big deal, just keep an eye on your oil level between changes. Let us know if you want that fixed but its not an emergency."
Bravo guys. This is why you have a 5 star rating. -

Ditto with what everyone else has said. GREAT prices and friendly, quick service.
I get my oil changed here and it's only $20, basically the best price available.
One time I ran over the barrier on Montlake and popped my tire and bent the rim. I went right in and they fixed it promptly for FREE. I haven't had to do this before, but I assume most places would charge for a service like this.
I really appreciate this place and will keep coming back soon. They gave me a quote for tires and 55k was about $350 for 4! Pretty good deal compared to les schwab. -
Review from David P.
Great service and affordable prices! These guys are very professional and honest, they will not try to upsell you. When I replaced my front tires, I got $40 lower than a typical dealer price and superior tires with a better warranty. I highly recommend this place!

These guys seem like they might actually be the real deal. I've been in Seattle 6 years and have yet to find a trustworthy car repair place. I've been relying on voodoo and magic beans to keep my car running smoothly just so I didn't have to take it in for any major repairs. So far, it's been working but there are only so many pieces of my soul to sell before it's all gone...
Anyhoo, I received a "Welcome to the Neighborhood" certificate for a free lube/oil/filer when I moved into a new place in north Fremont. They were professional, pretty quick and didn't try to sell me anything. They advised me to check into the date of my last alignment, printed me out a nice little summary of services and I was on my way gratis. They also mentioned that they do free flat fixes for customers, even though I didn't buy my tires there.
Fingers crossed! -

Great service! Was able to order the specific tires that I wanted, get me in and get an alignment done all in the same day - and I didn't call until around 10am. Price on the alignment was great, significantly less than the dealer for my Audi, but the tires were more expensive than a Discount Tire or Costco, due to the latter's ability to get a volume discount. However the ability to take care of both without having to sacrifice the tires I wanted (Les Schwab) or pay way inflated prices (dealer), was worth it, and it was about a wash given the savings on the alignment. If they could match the prices on the tires of a Discount Tire, it would be 5 stars for sure.

I give them five stars because comparing to other mechanic shops, tire or greese monkeys they are second to none. Fair price and honest service. Not too mention there not a national chain. So I'll throw my support there way. Check out there $19.99 oil change. It's cheap and they don't try and force you into other services.

This place is undoubtedly as good as it gets... 5 BIG STARS!!
Here's what happened: I'm a production assistant currently working on a documentary in Seattle about an internationally renowned artist. Word came down the pipe that I had to take her to the airport at 8 in the morning, but I was running on a spare and didn't wanna blow on the way to seatac. This all happened, of course, at 4pm on a Tuesday. In desperation to get a replacement tire, I frantically started to call around at all of the shops only heard that it wouldn't be ready till 9am the following day at the earliest. Finally Brandon at Affordable Tire and Break had the answer I sought: "For you, we'll do our best, just get it in here."
So I hustled down, dropped it off there at 4:30 and Brandon called me back at 5:10pm to say that it was done. when i arrived to pick it up, Brandon pleasantly surprised me by telling me my old tire was fine, they pulled out a screw and put in a patch, and GET THIS... He didn't even charge me!! Sounds too good to be true, doesn't it? But IT IS!!
I highly recommend this place to anyone who needs a tire change. -

These guys repaired a slow leak in a tire for free. I didn't think the tire was repairable and told them so, and was fully expecting to have to buy a new tire... but they fixed it even though they knew they could easily have sold me a new tire. A great business move, no question, but for all my future tire and mechanical needs, my trust is their to lose. It can be tough to find an honest shop, but hopefully thanks to yelp, this will help others.

Got my brakes fixed here. Service was very fast (called Friday afternoon, dropped it off after hours and it was fixed by noon Saturday). They were honest and didn't try to get me for anything I didn't need. I ended up spending a lot of money, but I don't feel like I got ripped off. It looks really shady from the outside, but don't let that fool you. The people are friendly and the service is good!

This place is awesome! Brandon is a great manager and awesome with people. The services is very real and down to earth. I only came here because of their reviews on Yelp and once i was here i realized how great they really are. $20 for an oil change is great and very hard to find around here. Not only that but they took the time to physically show me things on my car that i should be concerned about. They weren't pushy and didn't try to sell me anything, but seeing the visual of things about to go bad on my car really was great service, especially being a woman. Most women are jerked around at car places, but these guys make sure you understand and don't feel pressured. Really great place to go!

This place is the best!! The staff is super friendly and the prices can't be beat. I have a VW Toureg and was in DESPERATE need of new tires, after checking with the dealership, Discount Tire, Costco and the like I was feeling disheartened by how much 4 new tires would wind up costing. As a last ditch effort I searched online for "best tire prices Seattle" and low and behold up popped Affordable Tire and Brake. I gave them a call and was pleasantly surprised by how informative and friendly the man who answered the phone was. Even bigger a surprise was that they were able to get me comparable tires to what everyone else offered for $250 less than my previous cheapest estimate. I asked for the soonest appointment and they ordered the tires and had me in the following afternoon.
Upon arrival the staff greeted me quickly informed me of a nearby park I could take my son to play at while they changed my tires. I thanked them left them with my vehicle and headed out. About 5 minutes later I received a call form them asking where my lug nut key was. I had no idea what they were talking about so the guy told me no problem he would search the car. Fast forward 5 more minutes and I got another call saying they couldn't find it. I was bummed because I REALLY needed new tires and didn't know what to do. The guy offered to take the car and get a new key made from the dealership!!!! How freaking awesome is that?!?! Even after all of this they had my car done in about an hour and a half! Upon pick up I was informed of a possible alignment concern but was told not to schedule anything at that point. Rather I was told to go home check my records to make sure I hadn't had it adjusted recently....NICE AND UPSTANDING...how often do you run across that in the car industry?
Bravo Affordable Tire and Brake! Many thanks for the awesome service and amazing prices!! -

I took my car in for a simple brake pad change for $150 which is already pretty steep. In fact it is no cheaper than your standard dealership. I just had no choice b/c no one is open on Saturdays.
An hour after I take my car in, i get a call saying I need new rotors even though my brakes were not anywhere close to wearing down to the rotors. Apparently i also needed some sort of hardware which is another $50. Also told flushing the brake lines is another $70. All in all, this simple brake change was now going to cost nearly $400. I've had my brakes changed 3 yrs ago for $80 and brake flushing was included. By that time, my tires and calibers had already been taken apart, so I fell for it and said ok to everything. Well, it wasn't over. Another hour passes and I get another call. Now one of my wheel bearings is damaged and will cost $300 more to fix. After a long conversation, I also feel for the fix. All in all, cost went from $150 to $700. I can't say for sure what was done may not have been necessary since I'm no mechanic, but it just seems very suspicious the way more and more problems were found. I would be careful with this place. If you have a similar experience, just tell them to put everything back together and absorb the labor costs and get a second opinion. That's what I wish I did because in hindsight, I had no problems with my car and can't feel a difference after all those expensive repairs. Also, be sure to ask what exactly is included in their so called "packaged" deals because I'm sure they'll call and say you need something you didn't anticipate you needed to fix. -

Last week I brought my flat tire to these guys. When I dropped my car and flat-tire off at their garage they told me if the flat could be fixed, they would fix it at no charge. I thought that it was a nice thing to say, but I assumed that I was going to be buying a tire later that day. When I came to pick up the car, they had fixed the tire at no charge, put it back on the car, and put the spare "donut" tire back in its home under the floor of our van. I was impressed with their can-do and will-do attitude. They get 5 stars.

These guys rock; Brandon is all about customer service. I used to go to High Road but they are way too expensive. These guys fixed my torn boot without having to replace the entire axle. Honest, helpful, and really sincere which I find rare in the industry. They also said my head gasket is in fact not leaking enough to warrant repair (unlike HR) which saves me heaps of $. So set aside some time, go to 1/2 price books and take your finds to a nearby coffee shop while they're working on your car.
