I wish all healthcare in the US was like "Affordable Skin Care". The treatments nourish you... body and soul.
Keeping these services affordable and accessible to everyone is a genuine political policy.
Thank you ASC ! -

I can't complain about a single part of my experience at Affordable Skin Care.
I got an acne facial from the owner Mary and a massage. I have acne prone skin but my breakouts are becoming less and less frequent. After my appointment I noticed my skin felt healthier, less greasy and more radiant.
Pro's
- affordable
- used quality products that smelled pleasant
- simple,unembellished vibe
- the women who provide services here are knowledgeable about the products they use and approach dermatology realistically and holistacally
Con's - which aren't really
- does not accept credit cards ( I didnt have cash or a check and I wanted to pay this woman immediately for her services!)
- may be difficult to schedule a same -day appointment
I look forward to have microdermobrasion here in the future. I'd recommend this place for their skincare - actually I already have. -

I Wrote an review a little over a year ago * i must write one again!
when i first met Mary my skin was horrible. I had cystic acne on both cheeks, & near my nose. 6 months later my acne was gone & right before my eyes my scars, acne, & blemishes faded too! my skin was FLAWLESS. I then decided i didn't need to see Mary anymore (big mistake). My skin stayed flawless for a good 8 months then overnight i broke out, (cystic acne) This time on my lower cheeks and chin. I went back to seeing Mary . 3 months later my acne is 95% gone. I cant wait to have flawless skin again & i promise to never leave you, Mary. My skin loves you. Thank you so much.1 Previous Review: Show all »

Guess the cat's outta the bag - I tried to make an appointment to see Mary and she was booked for 3 weeks!
I've been going to see Mary for years, she knows how to take care of my finicky skin and make it look glowy and amazing. It's a cute place run by a nice, knowledgeable esthetician, tucked away in an unassuming spot in Fishtown. Sure, you could go to a fancy spa, but then you'd be paying those fancy prices too.
Luckily for me, she just hired another esthetician and also has a massage therapist on her staff to take care of you. I've referred all my friends to see Mary and they all love it too! -

Finally! Affordable Professional Skin Care!
I have suffered from acne all my life. I have tried every regime their is out to cure it... During 2008 I have the worst acne imaginable after trying Proactiv. My skin was so bad that I would avoid talking to people and shun away from dating. I was referred to Mary @ Affordable Skin Care by sales clerk at downtown Sephora. At this point I had been at wits ends and already spent $100+ on a facial at Spa Bavu in Old City which did no justice!
Affordable Skin Care is truly a Gem. Mary specializes in skincare and she changed my life for the better... My skin is much clearer and I have no active acne and my blemishes r even lighter. I have referred so many clients to Mary and no one gave a compliment. No there are no bathrobes and fancy stuff but you get quality care.
For $48 you will not get a full facial nowhere it may be a mini.. Then for under $100 you can get a full hour facial and a massage. BTW the massages r EXCELLENT!
If I was you I would go here its the best! -

Had my first facial here on November 8th! What a pleasant experience. Mary is very knowledgeable and described every single detail of the process which was relaxing and soothing. I am planning to go back every six weeks.

I've been to too many spas and paid WAY too much for facials in the past. But, Mary is the best and most affordable. Don't waste your money with the others and go get yourself an amazing facial here!

Review from Amanda G.
I went to get a massage here (by Leah) because I was having headaches and tension in my neck and upper back. It was a completely fair massage, but I felt that she could have spent a little more time focusing on my "problem areas." The cost was completely reasonable and she was very nice. They give you a bottle of water before you leave. The downside: cash only! I had no idea and no one told me when I made the appointment. I've since found someone else for massages, who I feel is very attentive and concerned regarding the "underlying issues" of why I have tension in the first place, but if you're just looking for a relaxing massage, this is the place for you. I would like to try out the facials, because everyone speaks so highly of them, but I haven't been able to do that yet.

I've had facials and waxing by Mary, the owner.
It's a small place with easy on street parking. Mary is very informative and friendly. She was quick to take me when I woke up one morning and realized that my brows were out of control! Personalized service without the spa snobbery. I've heard that it's great for people with acne too. -

Another hidden gem of fishtown. It has been sitting there on Girard for years now and I just kept on passing it by. My hub and I finally gave it a try. We both got massages (1 1/2 hours) and loved them!! She was very strong and informative.... a little chatty too, but I really didn't mind at all. Oddly, I enjoyed it (which I often don't during a massage).
My facial was great too. The owner, Mary, was very knowledgeable about skin care and was very open about her struggles with acne, etc. That really helped me to open up as well and discuss my concerns.
This isn't a "la ti da" spa with candle lit rooms, white robes and eucalyptus hanging from the ceilings....which, of course, has its time and place. That said, it is still very relaxing, affordable, to the point, and owned and operated by nice people.
There is a nice array of products for sale as well.... of which I plan to buy during my next visit! -

"Affordable" is definitely a great name for this spa!!! I had an awesome facial and extraction from MICHELLE, the amazing esthetician. The spa is clean and very comfy. I already purchased a gift card for one of my employees and sent my bestie there for her 40th birthday. I will certainly be going back for another facial. Another plus is that there is hassle free parking!!!

Mary is so great at what she does. She has saved my acne-prone skin. I thought it wasn't possible. My first visit was in August 2011 and my skin is so much better. I had tried EVERYTHING before going to her, from low-end to high-end products from all over the world! Nothing made it better, and at times it actually made it worse. I tried facials at other places, but I never noticed results like this. After going to my first visit, I knew Mary was going to be the one to fix my skin. I would not go anywhere else or try anything on my face that Mary hasn't recommended to me. Every single appointment has been such a great one. And my home regimen is easy enough, just a facial cleanser and a medication that I put on after washing my face. Her products and services are truly reasonably priced too. Thank you, Mary!!!!!!!!!!

Love, love, love this little hidden gem on east of everything Girard Ave. The space is small, but welcoming, the owner/esthetician is really sweet and knowledgeable. She is also using a great line of skincare products and wax that don't make my hypersensitive skin breakout 4 minutes after paying for the service.
The best part is that she means it when she says affordable! All of her prices are highly reasonable and the service is equal to that of service twice the price. -

I love the personalized service as well as the excellent skin care I get every time I go in to Affordable skin care. Its been a wonderful 8 months under Mary's care and I am a fan and client for keeps.
Highly recommend it if you are in need of skin care for problem skin like mine or just need high quality products to keep your great skin looking great like my husband does.1 Previous Review: Show all »

I cannot recommend this place highly enough. Mary has completely transformed my skin. I came to her with constant breakouts (I'm 33). I wanted to get facials regularly to see how it would impact my skin but couldn't stomach the price tag of facials in Center City. Lucky me, I typed "Affordable skin care philadelphia" into Google.
Mary is incredibly talented, funny and effective. I enjoy spending time with her and always getting tips to keep my skin looking great. Now I can say my skin is clear 95% of the time. I recommend her without a moment's hesitation.
I have also gotten amazing massages there. It's a great place to really take care of yourself and not break the bank. -

LOVE!
After reading reviews on Yelp, I decided to give Mary a call to see if I could get an appointment. I live in the DC area and was going to Philly for the weekend. I called her Friday morning to see if she had openings for Saturday - she told me that she would call if she had any cancellations. Sure enough, around 6:30 Friday night, she called me and told me I could go in Saturday morning. I was really happy that she took the time to call me back and chat with me about what I was looking for.
I really liked that her place is small and homey feeling. It was fairly easy to find and street parking wasn't very difficult.
On to the skin - I've had acne problems for about 10 years (I'm 24 now) and never really considered going to an esthetician about my skin. I was seeing a dermatologist in DC the past couple of months and did a combination of antibiotics (solodyn/minocyclin) and topical gel (epiduo). Although I saw results after 3 months, I didn't want to continue taking oral medication and once I stopped the antibiotics, my skin started getting worse again. Also, the epiduo didn't seem to control my bumps that much.
When I went to Mary, she did the acne facial on me - applied different gels/creams, cleaned my skin well, and did extractions (these hurt like a MOTHER but now my skin is so much smoother, I've had fewer breakouts, AND my skin was less oily). I've had 2 acne bumps in the last 2 weeks that were quickly smoothed away by the sample 10% benzoyl peroxide and cleanser I took home. The samples are $5 each and she puts them in little containers for you to take. I've really enjoyed using them and have asked her to send me the full size products by mail (more difficult to find online and the prices aren't any less).
You can't find a better facial for the amount she charges. I wish there was someone in the DC area who did the same thing!
One more thing - she doesn't take cards so bring your checkbook/cash. Another thing I loved about such a small shop and personal experience was that when Mary told me she didn't accept cards, she said I could go home and send her a check by mail if I didn't have my checkbook on me. Who does that anymore? I loved that she was trusting me to send her a check by mail - gotta love that homey mom and pop vibe :)
Definitely recommend going to see her if you have acne problems. Call early - she told me she was booked through mid April! -

Mary's magic works again! I tried her new microderm treatment on Wednesday and today my skin is aglow. I have heard great things about Mary's new esthetician. Looking forward to meeting her next time.

Went here for the first time this afternoon for my first eyebrow wax. It only cost $8 and looks great! The esthetician was very helpful and explained how it works. I have a bit of redness, but I was expecting that, especially since I'm so fair skinned. I plan on going back!

I cannot say enough about this place! No...you don't go in and think you've suddenly been transported to some exotic location. No..you won't get every other person trying to sell you hundreds of dollars worth of products. What you do get is a cozy, clean workspace. You also get Mary! Super friendly, explains everything throughly and knows what she is doing. My skin looked great...and a week later still looks great :) I will definitely be returning.

This is a GREAT place hiding way down Girard Ave toward the river. You definitely need to go find it!!! With facials ranging from $23 to $45 you cannot go wrong. The lovely owner/operator suffered through adult acne issues and knows what shes dealing with. I spent a lovely hour relaxing with music, falling water sounds, steam and several different masks. It was a very comfortable environment and she explained throughout the process what each mask was for. I got an appointment same day. And also some suggestions on proper face wash and lotion for my particular skin. Also, my skin looked BRILLIANT for the next 2 weeks. I will be back soon!

i have loved places before. but i dont think i could love a place more than this! thank you yelp! i was finally given a break from taking care of my dying grandmother, also in the middle of moving. i am tired, stressed and haggard in appearrance. but with a small window of time and my diva ways, i needed a facial and massage. even tho im a diva, im a broke diva. so i started looking for a place without center city prices. i found this place right here. good ol yelp. i called and asked if they could fit me in at 330 on a wed for both treatments.
1st was the massage. soooooooooooooooooooo crazy good. i really did feel the stress leave my body. i dont know what she did to me, but she made it all better. 2nd the facial. like i said, skin was looking like crap. i explained what was going on and she pulled out her bag of tricks. there was peels and masks and exfoliating brushes. she explained every step. suggested i buy a $5 sample for my huge zit, instead of selling me the whole expensive bottle. i could feel every treatment working. my skin looks 100xs better. heres where it gets even more amazing.... MY TOTAL BILL WAS $100!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! even with the zit med!
wtf? how can this be?
dont expect the zen garden or the cucumber water. or any of the bells and whistles that make you have to sell your first born to get some maintenance. just some people who know their shit and share their gifts. THANK YOU! THANK YOU! THANK YOU!
i will be back. often. and i'm bringing my people with me!Listed in: fabulous me

Mary, the owner of Affordable Skin Care, gives great facials for a great price. She explains every step of the process, gives practical skin care advice, and allows you to purchase "trial size" samples of her products, so you can try them before investing in the full size. The services provided are a great value: low prices, quality treatments, and straightforward beauty tips.
