Great place to rent a bike from -- the guys at the desk were friendly, informative and easy-going -- even made a terrific lunch recommendation (Poe's Tavern on Sullivan's Island) and drew a map for us to get to where we were going.

Well........
Affordabike is kind of what you'd expect from its name. Kind of bland.
The people who worked there weren't the friendliest but also not terrible. Ok, maybe a little terrible in that they seemed a little bit douche-y. But not mean.
I wouldn't judge the shop so harshly if a) it had a better name and b) it didn't make its money from selling cheap, ugly beach cruisers.
Dear Charleston: Beach cruisers are not cool or efficient, and they should DEFINITELY not be ridden on the sidewalk. -

Just picked up 2 custom beach cruisers and am VERY pleased! I had seen the website and was interested in purchasing a bike, but the deal was sealed when they were featured on Groupon! We ordered our bikes and they took about 3 weeks to be built. The wait time is the only reason I didn't give them 5 stars. I was just too excited!! They did tell us that part of the reason for the long wait was the increased volume they were experiencing due to the Groupon orders.
When I went to pick up my bike I was helped by 2 men to install a bike rack purchased at a different store. Unfortunately, I didn't know what a good brand of rack was and this rack could not hold the 2 bikes. Luckily, Affordabike had racks in stock and sold me one. They were nice enough to install the second bike rack and I went safely on my way.
They have great customer service and a friendly staff. -

Because my bike is more or less ancient and always in need of getting a flat tire fixed, I am now more or less a regular here. Everytime I've gone, I've been treated really well. The staff is dedicated, professional, and personable (even on visits where I am less than happy)
Their rentals and custom made cruisers are the cheapest in town, which is nice for any visitor or college student needing to find a more convenient way to get around town. -

Back in 2009, these guys were just getting started with affordabike. They sold custom beach cruisers and could repair almost anything that had wheels. I would come by to say hello, test drive a beach cruiser now and then, get my beat up old bike tuned up, and they were always so nice, willing to help, and gave great customer service. Finally, the guys started carrying road bikes and as soon as they did, I came in to buy an Origin 8- a "value brand" of road bikes for less than $400. Not only was it a great deal, but they promised to fix any problems I had with the bike. I never had any problems. In fact it was built so well, that the only thing I've had to add to it is air in the tires and a sweet bell on the front.
Affordabike has a huge selection of bikes and accessories- definitely the best in town. I think these guys are great and honestly, if you are looking to buy a new bike, need to get one fixed, would like to rent one for the day, stop in affordabike for great customer service and all of the above. -

I was super pleased with my one time experience with them. I rented a bike from them to ride around downtown for a few hours. The gentleman that helped me was very friendly. They had already rented out all the bikes for my size that day so they took the tags off a new one for me to take out. I can't complain about the price either! Considering buying a bike from there. Oh and there's parking in the back.

We are fans but could not give a full five stars because they were supposed to drop our bike off and pick it up like we scheduled but by the time we were in Charleston they no longer offered that service. How cool would that be? We booked our rental unit over at 227 Rentals through http://HomeAway.com and they recommended we rent some bikes from Affordabike while we were there. At the time (a few months prior to our stay) you could reserve and pay for the bikes and schedule a time for them to be dropped off at you rental unit. At the end of your trip they would come pick them up from your unit. All for a very reasonable price. We loved this idea so we jumped in and reserved a tandem bike thinking it might be fun to cruise around town on a tandem bike exploring all the restaurants and shops. Not only did they not do the drop off & pick up service any more but they did not have a tandem bike for us when we wanted it. I guess the price was too reasonable or they didn't have enough people using the service. The manager was cool and fast to reply via e-mail about how he might be able to build one for us but it was going to take longer than we wanted so we just settled for two normal beach cruiser type bikes and we have no regrets. Minus the minor flops and lack of communication about the change of service and what was available as far as bikes prior to our trip, we had a great time. The bikes were quality and all of the staff members we encountered were very friendly. Luckily, the shop was only a ten minute walk from our unit so it wasn't too bad when we had to pick up and drop off the bikes. The bike shop itself was really nice and they have a good selection of bikes and biking accessories. All in all, Affordabike is cool and we suggest checking them out.

I bought a bike online that came disassembled. Took it to Affordabike and they put it together for me and tuned it up at a very reasonable price! I am very pleased with their fast service (took it Saturday morning and got it back the following Monday evening even when they said they were slammed). The people there were very nice and who could not love that cute doggie!! I really liked this place and will definitely use them for future tune ups!!
