I would give this place 50 stars if I could. When it opened a few years back I was both surprised and happy to see that this much needed community queer center had opened. I only wish I would been around when I was growing up, but am grateful it is here now.
When you think of Ferndale cultural centers may not be the first city that comes to mind. However, being gay in the Midwest is different than being gay in big coastal city like NYC or LA. Thus, it is important that Affirmations exists and I think this especially true for younger genarations. Queer kids who may need resources, help, and positivity will have a place to go, which is awesome.
Affirmations is well designed and nicely decorated. My favorite feature is the lending library, which has a lot of books on varying subjects. The books and other media here do seem to be geared towards gay men but there are books covering a wide spectrum of GLBTQ interests. You can also donate unwanted books and media to add to their collection.
Affirmations is a very welcome addittion to the gay community here. If you haven't been to it yet, you should check it out.Listed in: Gay Michigan

Located on 9 Mile in Ferndale, Affirmations is a non-profit organization that provides gay,lesbian,bi-sexual and transgendered individuals a wide array of social and recreational activities and more.
I first became in the know about Affirmations while volunteering at A.I.D.S. partnership of Michigan. I'm shocked more people around town are aware of this gem. Affirmations recently moved into a gorgeous new facility which now allows patrons even more opportunities. This community center provides LGBT youth health services, a resource center, a helpline, support services and social and recreational opportunities.
