Review from Elle P.
Brooklyn, NY
GREATEST PURCHASE: (In my opinion) the best (and most expensive) book bag I've ever owned... which I bought at Affinity ages ago. I just got it back from the cleaner today and it looks just like the day I bought it. I'm stoked! GREAT INVESTMENT!
I go there for their great selection of "lifestyle" gear, and everything is completely reasonably priced. The staff has always been super friendly and eager to answer even my dumbest questions.
PS. I also have a major crush on their Kissena frame. Yum. -

These men (and the girl/s) who work here are just awful awful awful. JERKS. Fixie Dicks. Don't be an ass just because I do not know about bicycles and I am looking for help. Bs Bikes are amazingly kind and patient people. Do not waste time or money at this store. If I could give 0 stars I would.

Review from Stevin G.

I left feeling upset and a bit cheated.
I came in to have them build a wheel for me and in a neighborhood with a billion bike shops, I'm not sure if I would come back to this one. The price quoted to me at first was not what I was charged, it was a week and two days turnaround on a wheel build (and I ended up calling them to check, they never called me), and the guy who helped me gave me a monstrous attitude. I can deal with everything else, but the guy didn't need to be so mean. And to those who think bike mechanics are usually snotty, they might be, but this guy was a grade A douchebag.
I was treated like an idiot, when the only reason I wasn't building the wheel myself was because I lost my truing stand when I moved and haven't gotten a new one yet. -

On the whole I think that Affinity's work is good but their customer service and organization is crap.
I went in to get a custom wheel build and it turned into a five week long ordeal. After prepaying in full, I was initially told it'd be about a week which sounded fine since they had to order the hub and rim. I call back a week later to check on it and get told--in a pretty snotty tone--not to call them, that they'd call me back when it was done. Another week went by and I call back only to hear they couldn't find my ticket and that the rim was there but the hub hadn't been ordered and it'd be another week. I repeat the process of calling every week, several times being told I'd have someone would call me back with no followup. Just past the five week mark they called to tell me my wheel was ready.
The wheel turned out great and they threw in a cog and lock ring for the trouble which helped soothe my feelings. I can totally understand screwup in ordering and that type of thing but their default "don't call us we'll call you" attitude is a real turn off. I'm going to give it a couple of months before I give them another try. -

THE WORST SERVICE EVER, I came in to ask for a simple tool that they didn't have the woman at the counter was extremely rude, and arrogant.on desperate 2 occasions. I know my bikes and i guess the place was set up for people that know anything about bikes, purely to get ripped off.
-rude
-over priced
-pretentious.
there are better bike shops in Brooklyn save your time and money.
down the street I got decent tires for $11 bucks! -
Review from Jeremy L.

Went in with a pocket full of cash, and the intention of buying a bike... Not even a hello!! The staff made me feel like I shouldn't be in they're store, so I left.
I wouldn't recomend this place to anyone. -
Review from Chris J.
Brooklyn, NY
This place can take a little getting used to. Like all bike shops that are staffed with hipsters, a certain snootiness pervades the air at Affinity. Despite that, if you, like me, are willing to acknowledge your ignorance in most things bike-related, they are more than willing to be accomodating.
I've been here a few times. The first time was a few minutes before close when I asked some questions about handlebars. The guy behind the counter was a dick. He kept looking over my head and out into the street for something. Whatever it was, it wasn't me, so that was annoying.
I've been in and called a few times since then, and they've been nothing but nice. Their prices are moderately competitive, but they are definitely competent, way better than the dude at Grand Street Bikes.
Side Note: the blond girl who works there? So hot... -

I like Affinity. I've been in here a handful of times for small/medium repairs and upgrades, and the employees who I've dealt with are friendly dudes who do good work.
Some of these other reviews seem to concentrate on what people are wearing or what stereotype they fit into. I don't know what that has to do with bikes. Ignore them.
Average repairs (brake installation, wheel truing, cutting down handlebars, etc) will run you about $10 in labor plus any parts cost. I think the prices are pretty fair, and the service is quick provided they have the part(s) in stock.
All-in-all, a good little shop. -

I called up about purchasing a new wheel set and they had everything in stock and were able to build and toss it on my bike the same day?! I also like the fact that what they say they have on the website they have at the shop and is up-to-date, big plus!
I'm confused with all the poor reviews, this is a shop predominantly specific to track bikes so why go in there looking for something they don't carry nor advertise they have and write a poor review?... -

Fast and genuinely nice instead of all too common snotty bike repair culture. I am so happy they opened. Def. my new favorite bike shop.

I don't know much about bikes except for the fact that I love mine-- her name is Francis Eugenia. Well, the ol' gal started making some funny noises crossing over the Billyburg Bridge so I took her to Affinity. Everything that was causing the noises was some stupid screw that was missing or other should have been able to do it myself things of that nature. They replaced all my missing screws and adjusted Francis Eugenia to fit me even better than before I walked in. They never made me feel stupid for asking them to fix these minor problems, and when I asked them how much at the end of it all, they didn't charge me anything. Yay Affinity! I'll be coming back here to buy Francis a new basket.

I would say this is the best bike shop in NYC. They are very helpful with out all of the attitude that your going to get at other bike shops. if you are going spend any money drop it here.

These guys are super helpful, and often when I go into the shop they suggest a solution for my problem that doesn't involve me buying anything. It is great to have experts I can really trust with the bike I use to get around town every day.

They are all rad dudes who always hook it up right. To all those people who think its too expensive: You don't know shit about high-end bikes.

Review from Thomas W.
This would be a meh.... they have all the standard stuff: nitto, surly, bit of sugino. Blah blah blah. Lowest common demoninator. Some nice fixie builds. Yeah yeah. But, one thing makes them stand out, their dark own build affinity rides. Having gone in and glimpsed them today they really are quite beautiful things. If Knightrider was a bike, and David Hasselhoff was 'so hot right now' he would ride one of these.

I have to revise my earlier good review because my recable wasn't right and I had to wait another week plus to get it fixed. Plus, they cracked my derailer (it probably needed replacing anyway, but still) and then i had to wait for a new derailer to be backordered, and another couple of days for it to get installed, and in the end they didn't charge me for the extra labor but I still felt hassled. All in all it just took too long to get it right, and now I go to Nelson's where they fix my bike right away. I ride a beat-up Schwinn and not a shiny new fixie so maybe I'm just not in the right demo?

Brooklyn, NY
The people at Affinity have never been anything but nice and helpful the couple times I've been there. They do good work with a pretty good turnaround time, have great custom bikes, but are definitely not cheap by any means. Solid place, but not my favorite shop since other places do equally good work at far better prices.

awful service, snotty and rude, i think they should post a sign outside that says, bikes for rich white kids. the sales lady told me to get a bike off of craigslist. it is one thing to have a high end bike shop on the UES, but its friggin Grand st. geez!

blah, blah, blah I have read over the comments about snotty service but please do not project your own lack of self worth upon the wonderful people at affinity! so some things aren't dirt cheap but you should put money into your bike if you love it!

nice little bike shop. they can actually work on your bike (unlike many other shops in brooklyn). They are more of a good shop, rather than just another high end boutique.

stopped in, and they helped me with my bike. No attitude, no pretension. I can't give it more stars because I didn't have any real service done. But by my first impression, it was A-OK.

Review from austin robert m.
Brooklyn, NY
two years ago I wrote a fairly negative review about this place which I took down because someone kindly asked me to give em another shot. I took their advice and bought an awesome quality wheel set, straps, grips, chains, cogs and everything else I've needed since then. The dudes at Affinity really know their shit. Like most other bike shops in our fair city, even if you know what you're talking about sometimes you're just gonna sound like an asshole when you ask questions at bike shops, and because bike culture is so incredibly cultish and geeky you'll get a lot of snarky guff from the people who work there. This is definitely not the case here. Stereotypical as they may seem keep in mind that looks can be deceiving (also, if you live in the area and are interested in fixed gears and singlespeeds, if you do indeed care about stereotypes you should take a look in the mirror sometime), these guys are actually helpful and courteous, and if there's anything you need they've got it.
