I now have quite an affinity for the place. Why?
Very clean!
Pet friendly!
LOVE the kitchen/pantry!!
Friendly staff.
Dollar point was right in my range.
I stumbled upon Affinia Gardens through http://Hotel.com while I was throwing together a last minute trip to the Big Apple. (Ended up with a better deal through priceline.) I chose it because it was the closest hotel (4 blocks) to my meeting within my price range (less than $200). Am I glad that I did! I'll be going back to Affinia Gardens whenever I'm in the Big Apple! -

This review just goes to show that there is a negative bias with reviewing... if this were a great stay, I admit I wouldn't be writing.
This is a great location and set up for an extended stay in NYC with family.
However, their handling of construction project is COMPLETELY UNACCEPTABLE.
First, who's bright idea was it to do this work over Spring Break????!!!??? How about waiting until just after Easter????
Lots of noise, no access to the onsite fitness center, access only to fitness center 1/2 mile+ away, and no heat. No notice with chance to change to another property in advance of arrival, no offer (at least yet) of a refund (we pre-paid) or voucher for a future stay. Extremely frustrating because this native NYer wants my family to enjoy coming to NYC, and this place would have been ideal. Glad that they are investing in the property, but I am not sure I will be able to get anyone back here.
MAKE SURE TO GET FULL DISCLOSURE OF PROPERTY CONDITIONS BEFORE YOU ARRIVE, HERE OR AT ANY OTHER AFFINIA PROPERTY! -

Very clean and nice hotel. I had a TA FAM rate...so it was a deal that couldn't be beat! Nino at the front desk was amazing! He was super nice and VERY VERY helpful! Turns out he was from Phoenix as my friend Nina was too! so it was pretty fun sharing stories and similar names. We arrived at 3am. So obviously check in wasn't for 12hours. We expected to drop off our luggage, meet up with my brother for a night of debachury. Rather, Nino said the room available and check us in! THAT WAS SUPER AWESOME! So we dropped off our stuff in the room, enjoyed our night and returned to our room at 9am. Nice and clean, HUGE, all suites! with kitchen! Upper East side. about 4 blocks from Central Park Zoo. We walked there in less than 10minutes. Near the subway and a taxi is just a 5min ride to Times Square! I'll def stay here again! Also, when I made my reservation online and "ok'd" for them to post it on my facebook page, they gave me a free bottle of wine at check in!! Telling you! This place was awesome. They do coffee and pasteries in the morning down in the lobby. This is a great place to stay. But it's not the PLAZA. It's located ina resedential area across from a hospital and BBQ restaurant. Very quiet and great location!

What a cool hotel!
My friend was staying here and we dropped by to check out the digs. First of all, a balcony AND a full kitchen, plus two full sized beds and a pull-out couch? And free flavored water at the front desk? Uhhh...yes!
It seemed super clean, even after they had been there for four days. Maybe this set of friends were cleaner than the uptown ones, but I think the cleaning staff do a great job in tidying up after the animals that sometimes stay in these rooms.
I don't know the cost of the rooms, but I'm assuming they were affordable because my friends stayed here for three nights and four days. I'd totally choose to stay here if I needed a spot in Manhattan. -

This hotel is fantastic. Sitting right across from Madison Square Garden & Penn Station, you are in a prime location without having to over pay.
I stayed here while visiting a friend in New York & even they were impressed with the cost/room ratio. My room had almost an apartment feel (I suspect it used to be a tenant building) which was great, much better than the stale, box hotel room so often seen today.
The bed was clean, comfortable & best of all, cheap. -

Literally....I am still waiting on hold. They have issues with their answering service and play terrible fuzzy music while you wait.
Wish I could actually review the hotel but I am afraid I will never get to book. -

I booked a penthouse suite for one night for my sister's bachelorette weekend earlier this summer -- I couldn't believe I could book a penthouse suite in NYC for under $500!! You can barely book a closet in the city for that price these days :P
Anyway, my needs weren't great, just needed enough space for 8-10 girls to hang out and sleep after a night of going out (my sis's friends live across boroughs so I didn't want ppl to worry about getting home late). Despite not needing anything super fabulous, AG exceeded my expectations from the start. First of all, they were kind about taking care of a somewhat unwieldy delivery of balloons that arrived before I had. When I got to the hotel, they were very professional and friendly.
As I decorated the room, a staff person came in to check on me and asked if I'd be needing anything. I hadn't even thought to ask, but she offered to bring me champagne flutes, as well as 2 ice buckets for the bottles I had. She returned with the suggested items and didn't express any concern as I was obviously decorating the room with a lot of pink crap and streamers (I kindly let her know that we'd be cleaning up well before we left).
In addition to the service, the room itself was absolutely great -- it was probably about 950 sqft, with a huge living room with dining room, a 100sqft balcony (though it was raining that day, so we didn't use it much), a full kitchen, separate bedroom with 2 queen beds and a big bathroom. The room was impeccably clean with very comfy, high thread count sheets.
All in all, it was an impressive experience, and at under $500, it was an amaaaazing deal for NYC. -

Very large rooms, would have been perfect for a wedding party! Rooms have a huge mirror. We didn't love the location, had to walk far to everything. We were on the 10th floor facing the street and it was NOISY when trucks make deliveries to the hospital across the street. They had a nice tea set up downstairs. We enjoyed that. Don't try the Affinia brand tea though. Its terrible. They nickel and dime for internet service. That was annoying. Oh yes, and the bathrooms have no fans, which I just found, as Nate Berkus puts it, "not gracious".

You wouldn't know it just by walking or driving by, but the gardens is one unique hotel. Perfectly located within walking distance of shopping and restaurants. Nicely tucked away from the hustle and bustle of NY. Spacious, modern, clean. The suites are absolutely incredible!! I plan on returning again and again.

Stayed here Valentines night since i was having very early surgery at Hosp for Spec surgery the next morning.. We had a 1st floor basic room which had a decent size patio with a round table with chairs! If it was warmer out it would be great to sit outside and have a cocktail and relax. The room is a studio apt with a kitchen you can cook in with fridge, plates cups etc! very cool if you need to stay for a week or so since its more like a apt then a hotel room! The only complaint i have is the fact that our room was next to the elevator as the elevator bell goes off every time the doors open! I didn't sleep since I was nervous about my surgery but would recommend staying far away from elevator! Defin worth the price since finding a clean hotel room on upper east side under $250 is not easy!! Parking is about $40 for 24hrs.

Booked here for a girls weekend, and we loved it! Excellent size rooms, very clean an spacious, the kitchen was a huge plus. The outside of the hotel isn't anything to look at. This property was formerly an a apartment building which is quite apparent. The staff was really nice and friendly. They had a nice little tea area when you come in with a decent selection. This property is a 3 star, but offers terrific value as far as what you get for the price.

We just returned from a 3 day stay with 2 small children. The Staff was wonderful and very helpful. The room was spacious (a 2 bedroom suite was as big as my house!) and super clean. The beds and pillows were very comfortable and the linens of great quality. I would DEFINITELY stay here again. The tea bar and wine and cheese nights on Tuesdays with live music was a nice bonus! The location was nice, quiet and convient to most places.
