Just had a nice 3 night stay here. Good deal for the price! Everything updated and very clean: surprise furnished kitchen included! Rooms decent size for NYC. Mini- bar/snacks. Large desk/work area. Quiet-
Building has 30+ floors so you might get an awesome view- we were on 12. One block from tube station(6) very nice fitness center on 2nd floor.
Picky complaints: no blow dryer, flatscreen ran analog cable so the sound gradually didn't match the action. Few lights burned out.
Would stay here again. -

I really enjoyed my stay here. I had room 216, nice sized room, king sized bed, walk in tiled shower. Very quiet, could not hear the other rooms or guests in the hallways. The room exceeded my expectations. The hotel has a swanky updated feel to it. Very clean. Comfortable lobby and bar onsite.
The room rates are very reasonable for NY, although WiFi at $13 was disappointing. -

I booked 3 nights within a week of visiting, because it was a nice hotel at the most affordable rate. Location is great as well. You're close enough to the action like Times Square, Top of the Rock, Empire State Building, etc., but not SO close that you can't get a good night's rest because of the ruckus.
Service was fine. I asked for a humidifier in the middle of the night, and they weren't able to provide it for me immediately because they were all out. The next morning at approximately 11am, they brought it to me. There's a list of items that they provide free of charge inside the Affinia Dumont book. The room is bigger than an standard room at a low end hotel in Las Vegas. AND it has a full kitchen with pots and utensils. The refrigerator was also stocked with drinks, both alcoholic and non-alcoholic. Their bathroom amenities is the brand Philosophy.
No free wi-fi. Boo. -

Stayed here for business/pleasure during St. Patties week. Rooms were pretty pricey, around $350/night but considering the holiday, not bad. Loved how there was a full kitchen in each room and rooms were huge! There are now flat screens and the bellmen were very helpful and friendly. Concierge was also a huge help when we searched for tours of the city. Compared to a previous stay where the rooms were around the same price, but more than half the size smaller, stay here!!!

For a last minute desperate search for a hotel, we found a 'studio' at the Affina Dumont. The $300 for that one night was steep, but the room was amazing!
Large bed
Comfortable sheets
Good A/C system
Large TV
Amazing view
Kitchen included in studio
Bathroom kind of small
Elevators were slow due to maintenance
Decent location
Would love to stay here again when I'm rolling in the dough.Listed in: DC PA NY

Paid way too much to stay here during fashion week and the 9/11 memorial weekend but we have to say that the hotel really surprised us (in a good way). Hotel staff were really friendly.
They were in the midst of remodeling when we were there but they got us into a newly done corner room so everything was new- carpets, tables, TVs, beds, bathroom, kitchen. Lots of space for a hotel room (even more considering its in NYC). beds were super comfortable
It's super close to the subway (less than a block) empire state building, tons of restaurants, and lots of markets so you can totally cook in the full kitchen! Theatre district and rocker feller center are only a few blocks away. -

Love this hotel! I always stay here when I'm traveling for business to NY and the rooms are spacious and comfortable. The staff is beyond friendly. The one thing that I love most is the amount of light the rooms have. Generally most hotels i've stayed at have such poor lighting but the Affinia provides with plenty of good bright light. They all have full length mirros so you can check out your duds! The bathroom showers are also really convenient. They all have a rack installed for all your toiletries. It's the little things that make the difference. :)

We've been using the Affinia Dumont for years for corporate travelers and company meetings. Its a great spot for private events that require a large ballroom or semi-private dinner parties in the restaurant attached (Niles).
They have never disappointed, due to comfortable modern digs and attention to detail. Paid wifi keeps the business people happy, and the modern vibe keeps visitors impressed. Corner rooms with seating areas have enough room for a small, casual meeting with coworkers, too! -
Review from Louise P.
Great location and a beautiful hotel. We got an amazing deal the week before our stay on http://priceline.com. The room wasn't ready at 3:00 so we waited for a bit and then when it still wasn't ready, they upgraded us to an upper floor suite. Service at the front desk was very friendly and helpful.
The pillow menu is a fun touch and I tried the magnetic pillow just for kicks. The standard pillows in the rooms were great though.
Got room service for breakfast which was surprisingly well priced and delicious. Mmmm.... crispy bacon.
Only complaint was that on two occasions, we called down to guest services and then the spa/fitness center and no one answered the phone. -

Just stayed here for 4 nights using Shell points. It is a perfectly respectable, clean and customer friendly hotel with comfy beds and a decent thread count. Do yourself a favor and check in with David Bach their only superstar concierge and have him tell you his must-dos. He is amazing. Everything he recommended was top notch. We would also recommend eating at Pepolino Italian restaurant near TriBeCa. It is deelish!
Back to the hotel. Great central location. Close to the subway. Rooms off the street facing the outdoor courtyard are very quiet. Would stay here again for sure. And I'm pretty picky. -

We booked this through Priceline at a pretty amazing rate. Reading through TripAdvisor, I was legitimately excited. Then I came on here and read some not-so-wonderful reviews... did Priceline let us down?
Lesson learned: while I love Yelp, a lot of the reviews are too picky for their own good.
Could the Affinia Dumont use some technological updates? Yes, it could. The TV quality is shit. But if you're in NYC and worried about watching television, you're in the wrong city, my friends. The TV is fine for what it should be used for: channel surfing after a night out or the morning news. However, upgrading to WiFi would be beneficial, even if there are tons of free WiFi spots within walking distance.
Aaaaaaaanyway... for the price we paid, this was a major hit. The room was HUGE (with a kitchen!), the bed was really comfortable, the view was amazing, check-in was friendly and effortless, everything was very clean and the location was fabulous. All of those factors are important to me in a NYC hotel room and the Affinia delivered.
The only drawback was getting woken up at 9am by housekeeping. We should have put the Do Not Disturb sign on the door, but since checkout isn't until noon, I think waiting to knock until 10am is doable. Or, just check the computer system.
I'd go back here in a minute though, especially for the Priceline rate. -

I had high expectations because of the reviews I read.
We actually stayed here in May 2010 with a 1 and 2 year old.
Wonderful location, we took the train from DC and just walked over, took about 20 minutes. Service was wonderful but we were completely disappointed with the cleanliness of the room. The windows, furniture, and the floor were so dusty and with young kids, this was a huge concern for us. Our one year old was not yet walking and we were not at all comfortable with leaving her on the floor.
We did not spend much time in the room so it was ok but still we were there for breakfasts (our kids eat very early- it was nice to have the kitchenette) and night time (they went to bed very early as well) - so my husband and I spent a lot of time in the living area and definitely were frustrated by the dusty furnitures. -

I CAN'T BELIEVE I've never rated this hotel.
I stayed here in November '10 around Thanksgiving, and it was one of the better hotel experiences of my life. My boyfriend (and travel partner) needs a handicap accessible room, so we've had our share of hotel flubs and runarounds. In fact, more hotels get our reservations wrong than right (resulting in some uncomfortable nights, especially in high-traffic travel times).
No such worry with the Affinia Dumont.
They got us in the right room at the right time, did a fantastic job checking us in and meeting any special needs even though we arrived after midnight, and basically made us feel like rock stars our entire stay.
The rooms are HUGE, albeit a little older, and the location is, quite frankly, stellar. Blocks away from grand central station, and we were able to walk or subway anywhere we needed to go easily. How much time are you going to spend in the room anyway?!
If you absolutely need a night off from the bright city lights, though, there are multiple bodegas, restaurants, and take-out places steps away.
Love, love, loved the Affinia. Great value, great service. -

2 rooms, 10 nights. Fantastic. Got the weekly rate, and it would have been a fantastic deal at 30% more than we paid.
Rooms were huge (for Manhattan) and very clean, staff was great and very attentive. When we needed to stay an extra day, there were no rooms...until the management team led by Frances spun their magic and found an extra day for both rooms without us having to switch rooms.
I've been Platinum Marriott for over 10 years, so I know hotels worldwide...this is a true winner.
Will stay again without hesitation. -

I would have rated this hotel 3.5 stars if possible. However, since there are a bunch of 4 and 5 star reviews we need to put the record straight so that you don't come in with expectations that are too high. That's what happened to me.
First the good news: The location is awesome, just to the east of the Empire State Building on 34th St. The view from our 36th floor north facing room was spectacular and it was cool to have a little kitchen. The hotel staff are all very friendly.
For the bad news: Our room was unmade when we walked through the door. The decor was a bit drab and the bathroom was small and poorly lit. The TV was from the 90's and internet costs $14/day extra.
So that makes it a 3.5 star hotel in my book. -
Review from Jeremy S.
I'm literally in the last 30 minutes of my stay at the Affiinia right now, so I figured what better time to compose my review?
First I'll lay out the positives:
The room was in fact huge, the biggest I've stayed at in NYC and I had a kitchen.
Service was excellent, one employee didn't have change for a $100 (yeah that's how I roll), but ran next door to another business to break my bill. Another time a party was ranging in the room next door at 3:30 am. I called the front desk and they took care of it within 5 minutes and I had no further noise problems.
Unfortunately I had some issues that will probably keep me from staying here again...
After a few days of sleeping on their bed my neck and back really started to hurt (I've never had back or neck issues before), I think it was because their pillows were too hard. Ironically they do provide a "pillow menu" in the room, but all the pillows on the menu are pretty gimmicky (such as a pillow with speakers inside). I called and asked if they had anything softer, but the only option was to switch to their hypoallergenic pillow. It did help a bit, but don't you think if you're going to bother offering pillow choices the most obvious options would be: soft, medium or hard? That's what they've got at Bed, Bath and Beyond... just saying.
Another major beef I have with this hotel is the decor and furniture. When I first walked into my room I felt kind bummed, it just wasn't that nice. I did get used to the beat up furniture, old TV, and lack of desk, but my initial reaction was... bleh.
Finally the room wasn't ready for me when I arrived at 8 pm, I had to wait about 15 minutes for them to get it together. Not a huge deal, but really... at 8pm? Also I was put on the 3rd floor, which meant no views except some rooftop exhaust pipes... ah well, better luck next time. -

Wow! I want to live here! The entire hotel smells divine and the doorman, Chris immediately felt like my new best friend. The room was clean and comfy and I loved the Aveda products. I really liked the pillow menu - you can choose hypo-allergenic, buckwheat or memory foam. All the staff was friendly and helpful without being too much.
I was wishing I had brought my running gear because they offer three free workout kits - a running pack with maps for good runs in the area, a diskman and other amenities, a set for yoga and one for weight training. All this in addition to a workout room. All free! Very cool!
We also really liked the mini kitchen with full fridge, coffee maker and service for four. Since my fiance was working during part of the trip, it was handy to have the means to reheat leftovers for lunch, etc.
I failed to take advantage of the spa because there was just so much to do but the range of services sounds great. Maybe next time, because if I have anything to do with it, there WILL be a next time.
Slight correction to another review - the hotel faces the East River - the location was convenient and beautiful.Listed in: New York Fun

Review from Rene C.
When I think of a five star hotel my brain flashes images of the Ritz Carlton and the Four Seasons. Reading reviews of the Affina Dumont on both Yelp and http://Traveladvisor.com I was given the impression that this hotel property would also be in the same league. Turns out it isn't. This hotel is a 3 star hotel in a four star location.
When I began looking for places to stay I checked multiple websites and two hotels came up with some really great pricing. The Ritz Carlton in Battery Park had rooms for $225 a night and the Affina Dumont $159. I was torn between the two. The Ritz is a known commodity but it's location in the Financial District was not my number 1 choice. The Affina Dumont at $159 was less and rated higher by my fellow yelpers and situated in a more desirable location.
I ended up choosing the Affina Dumont. Like I mentioned, the hotel is in a great location in Murray Hill and just a short walk to the Empire State Building and other points of interest. The rooms are nice and spacious by Manhattan standards. They are a bit dated, but have everything you need to make your stay comfortable. I requested a high floor with a view but was given a room on the 10th floor with no view. Not a big deal but it does demonstrate that even on a slow weekend that you may not have your request honored.
The front desk staff is friendly and helpful and eager to offer suggestions. The Concierge is well connected and is able to score tickets for events etc. He was even able to print out tickets for both MOMA and the Met which was nice and we were not forced to stand in line at either place.
For the price I paid, I was very happy with I got. And when my travels take me back will consider staying here again. -

Priceline has led to some interesting adventures in my life - why is it that I'm okay with saying, "Here's some dough, guys - go find me a cheap hotel that I have to stay in!" Well, this time things worked out pretty nicely - I got to stay at the Affinia Dumont.
Let's start here: have you ever stayed in one of the hipper hotels in Manhattan, those that sport the trendy bars where martinis cost approximately half your week's salary? I have, and they can be a blast, though you have to be able to foot the bill, and generally be okay with brushing your teeth, taking a shower, sitting on the toilet, and laying on your bed all within the same cubic yard. Sexy? Not so much.
Comparatively, the AD is like a palace (and the room we got, which was standard, rivaled some apartments in NY I've seen, size-wise), and though not exactly hip, the hotel and room were certainly classy and clean (and had a couch, kitchen, and second bed, as well.) Well-suited for business travelers, the amenities are all there, just not the bling. Or the expense.
Or the crapper staring you down as you're counting sheep. --js -

Good size rooms with full kitchens but needs some TLC. Comfortable beds. Customer service ranged from very friendly to distant. On the third night our thermostat was set for 90 degrees. Desk said someone previously must have programmed that temp.

So- I come to NYC pretty darn often. I have stayed at a variety of hotels- and I can truly say- I LIKE THIS ONE!
Friendly and extremely helpful staff. They go out of their way to make sure that you have what you need, and if you don't they help you get it.
The size of the desk is PERFECT! Unfortunately, when I come here, it is to work, and work I do. I had a multi level desk with two different sources of lighting and a very comfy chair. This arrangement let me spread out and GET SHIT DONE! Exactly what I needed.
Each Affinia hotel has a specialty. The Dumont focuses on Fitness. If I were not exhausted from my 3 state in 2 day whirlwind of meetings (including the one that started at 6:30 %$^$%$%$%$ AM) this morning- I would appreciate it. As it stands, I am more excited about the large bed and selection of pillows.
I like to spread out when I am on the road and make myself at home. This is easily accomplished in this place- especially with the kitchenette. A bit of Wine to go with my WHINE and a place to store my left overs.
Life is good. I wish all business travel were this comfy!Listed in: Danielle Does Manhattan, hotel de jour

Wifey and I decided to try something different for Christmas this year. The Mrs. and I decided to skip town for the Holidays and spend Christmas in the second greatest city on Earth...New York (I'm a born and bred Angeleno). Don't get it twisted, I LOVE New York. Every time I go back it reminds me of the 18 months the Love of My Life and I were doing the whole NY to LA long distance love affair thing. I've got eight million memories in that city. Besides my dear L.o.m.l. get's "so excited" whenever she gets to go back to the greatest city on Earth (yes, we got issues).
I digress. As this would be the first cross country trip our baby Ninja would be accompanying us on we were nervous to say the least. Much like young Elephant, Young Ninja need LOTS of space to forage about. Bargains ain't what they used to be and large hotel rooms in the city are rarer than an empty street in Mid-town Manhattan. So imagine my surprise when I came across a 3 room 2 bedroom suite for LESS than the price of 3 singles elsewhere (we were travelling as a Clan and needed to sleep 4 plus a baby). To top it off the location in Murray Hill was central to everything...SCORE 1 for the tourists.
As the Affinia Dumont is a "fitness Hotel" each room comes equipped with an apartment sized kitchen complete with 4 burner stove, refrigerator, microwave, coffee maker, plates and utensils. Being that our 3 room 2 bedroom suite was essentially a 2 room 1 bedroom suite and another connected Jr. Suite we had a total of 2 bedrooms (3 total beds plus a pull out sofa in the living room and each bedroom had its own sitting area), LARGE living room between the bedrooms, 2 full size workstations, and enough room and full size mirrors for a small aerobics class (which is actually why they have so much space and full sized mirrors in the rooms...so people can work out) PLUS 2 bathrooms and 2 kitchens. SCORE 2 for the tourists.
Travelling on Christmas Morning worked to our advantage. Traffic everywhere was minimal and the poor staff that had to work the Holiday at the Hotel were anything but unpleasant. Quality folks have got to be hard to find in the city because I swear to you they've ALL got to be working here. We experienced top-notch service throughout our stay. Upon checking in we were headed right back out the door to catch a meal when we inquired about the crib we requested for our room. The staff were THOROUGHLY apologetic for the miscue and were buzzing about before we hit the door to exit. Once we returned we were immediately greeted and notified that everything was in place and to be sure to call if we needed anything else. I appreciate reassurance.
Besides having MORE than enough room (how often do you get to say that when you travel?) our room(s) were quiet, clean, comfortable and offered a partial view of the single most beautiful building in the world; The Chrysler Building. I can't think of too many other places you can stay at that make you feel like you're in your own apartment in the city. Warm food, hot cocoa, and whatever else you might enjoy at home were all available at our whim. The ONLY drawback was the tiny drawers to unpack your clothes in (maybe I'm a freak for always unpacking when I travel; no one else seemed to mind).
Aside from that it was the perfect place to set up camp while we enjoyed the city. I truly can't think of a better place for groups or families to stay in the city. My only fear is that the incredible rates we got during our mid-week stay (through the winter sale on Expedia) may have been a once in a lifetime gift from 'Ol Saint Nick himself.Listed in: I Love New York

I was not really impressed by this hotel... I should have copy and pasted what I wrote on their hotel survey and saved me some time. But I'll try to recreate it:
Basically, I had to check in twice (once for each night) due to their completely ridiculous reservation system. I reserved a room online, then called to extend my stay. They said they had to make a new reservation for me in order to extend for a night. Okay, whatever, I thought.
But when I arrived and checked in, they informed me that I would need to check in again the next day (AND GET A NEW KEYCARD) because my reservation for the next night was separate. It was ridiculous.
The room was pretty nice and very spacious. But if I am going to be paying lots of money for a hotel room I'd prefer a robe and slippers to extra space. And bubble bath would have been nice.
They advertise a "pillow menu" and I am disappointed to report that the menu is not available after 11pm. Um, in the city that never sleeps or whatever, 11pm is a pretty early bedtime for the housekeeping services.
I wanted my buckwheat pillow. -

AMAZING HOTEL!!
I rented a one bedroom suite with my girlfriends and it was HUGE! Like the size of a one bedroom apartment. The kitchen was an added bonus, a walk in closet dressing area, the most comfortable beds, and the VIEW was magnificient. We were on the 34th floor staring right at the Crysler Building. We spent an amazing evening sipping wine, having girl talk and gazing out at the breathtaking view.
The staff was so catering, they gave us VIP tickets to a club with a very long line that we thankfully bypassed. I cannot say enough about how much I enjoyed staying here. I would highly reccomend this hotel to anyone, and staying in Midtown a few blocks from the subway was just a short ride away to everything we wanted to visit.
The worst part about this place was leaving. :-( -
Review from Carla B.
This is my favorite place to stay in NYC. It's a former apartment building that's been converted to a hotel. So you get a little kitchen, which is very handy. The room is large, the beds are very comfortable, you get a big desk, free internet access, and the view facing the Hudson River is dynamite. The location is very convenient to both downtown and uptown.
Great service from the hotel staff, who are friendly and helpful.Listed in: NYC bests

I was in a suite on the 30th floor with my friends and we had an AMAZING view of the Chrysler Building and Times Square. We stayed here on New Years Eve and were able to see the Waterford ball from our room! It was awesome.
The staff is super friendly. They let me leave my luggage with them while I walked around/ran errands around the city until my friends checked in under their name.
A couple of blocks from the 6 train @ 33rd St., and the 3rd Ave. bars and restaurants are less than a block away. Pretty convenient!
I would definitely stay here again. -

The Affinia Dumont made our trip to New York a complete experience. The staff is very nice, professional and accommodating. They did their best to make us feel comfortable, and yet so effortlessly, too. They had everything from roll-away beds to 5 different types of pillows, extra linens, umbrellas, etc. All you need to do is just ask and someone will be at your door within 10-15 minutes.
The location overall is perfect and accessible. It's right in the middle of places for first/second/third time visitors. There are restaurants everywhere near the hotel, you'll never go hungry, any time of the day! You are literally 5 New York blocks from the Empire State Building, across the streets from Duane Reade drugstore if you need to get water, snacks, insoles for walking, etc., a few walking blocks from shops like Zara, H&M, Banana Republic, Express, etc. Also, it's close to Time Square, Korea town, Madison Ave, Park Ave, etc.
We rented the 1 bed room suite with living room and kitchen area. The suite was about 650-700 square feet. Price was about $400 a night, which according to my price hunting was average for 4+ star hotels in Manhattan. It's very clean, and the bed, is very comfortable. The hotel and room had a posh and luxurious feel and ambiance. The sofa in the living room has a pull out full sized bed. Roll-aways are available at no extra charge. The king size bed in the bed room is very comfortable. Each person can select a pillow that fits his sleeping needs. The only thing is there is only one bathroom. (There were 5 of us in that suite - 4 adults and 1 teen).
If you need internet access, there are two computers in the posh lobby with free internet access. There's also connection in the rooms, but for a fee.
We will definitely come back the next time we visit Manhattan again - perfect location for food, shopping, sight seeing, Manhattan experience! -
Review from Steph C.
My aunt got a suite in the Affinia Dumont through some sort of a time share program, and I stayed with her along with my mom, my brother, and my cousin. The room was really nice, very clean and spacious. The bedroom had a big bed and plenty of room around it, and the outer living room had a fold-out sofa bed that was large enough to sleep three. I was the lucky middle, and I was just fine sleeping between mother and brother. There was also a small kitchen, a luxury in any New York living space.
The lobby and amenities were pretty standard, and the location was not the best. That said, our room was comfortable and thus served its purpose. This isn't a destination hotel, but it's definitely solid. -
Review from Janet D.
PROS:
Kitchen
Stylish decor
Top notch service (They let us check in about 11 am after a red eye...very, very grateful! Always ready to get you a cab or help with your luggage.)
No free wireless ($13.95/day)
CONS:
So-so location (It seemed wherever we had to go it was either a 6+ blk walk or a cab ride)
Here's the big con that knocked them down an entire star - Billed as an "Executive Fitness" hotel, we bunked next to a roomful of rowdy partiers of the male persuasion. They kept us up all night long on Fri/Sat nights. If I would've been there with my girlfriends, we probably would have joined them, but alas...this was a business trip, not a party trip. Management took care of it as best as they could, but the fact that this is even possible at the hotel makes it unlikely we would go back if in NYC on a biz trip.Listed in: Out-Of-The-Box in NYC

We stayed at this place on the recommendation of a friend. After a horrible flight to NYC that had us arrive over 12 hrs late, we checked in to our hotel. Garnett, the man at the desk was very courteous and welcoming. Upon getting into our room, we unpacked and showered, then realized the a/c wasn't working very well. We were given the last room and an upgrade for the night, but were going to have to move again the next day due to hurricane Irene (no guests in the top two floors due to high winds). The staff moved our items to the new room and we were very happy for our entire stay. This place is well located and away from the heavy traffic of Park Ave. I would definitely stay here again and do recommend it versus a chain hotel.

Review from Bridget M.
Santa Monica, CA
Love it. Since I suffer food allergies, and would prefer not going into shock when I'm away from home, hotels/apartments with kitchens are a must. In NYC this generally means either you luck out with a sweet apartment or you end up with a closet. Total crapshoot.
The Affinia is always awesome though. Huge rooms, incredibly comfortable beds, a room service menu that doesn't suck, parking across the street, super friendly staff, did I mention the amazing beds? Honestly the best sleep experiences I've had in years, both times I've stayed here.
They have an extensive room service and pillow menu, a gym, a spa, all sorts of health conscious packages for visitors, and apparently random classes too (like language immersion ones)
My only complaint is the wired internet. So many places offer wireless now that it's a shame that they're lagging behind on this one thing.
I absolutely love this place and would suggest it to everyone. -

3.75 stars
The Affinia was very nice. I have few major complaints, but there is nothing to write home about here.
The awesome: Carl's Steaks is right around the corner, as well as a Duane Reade for stocking up the full kitchen that is in all the rooms. Having a refrigerator with a giant bottle of Fiji water is awesome after a late NYC night.
The good: The spa is really nice and connected to a pretty well appointed gym. However, for calling themselves a fitness hotel, it was pretty small. The staff was friendly and gave us a late checkout with little difficulty. I had an excellent massage, but book early. It fills up.
The not great:
The location is a little odd if you are touring around town. The rooms are large, nice, and far from bad, but nowhere near a 5 star and certainly not inexpensive. There was no flat screen! In Manhattan!?
The ugly: The door man seemed nice, but after calling a car to get me to (Brooklyn!) and telling me he had a great deal for me, it turned out to be $35. He told me this up front and I was too tired and apathetic to care, but having been around NYC a lot, $35 is far from a deal. -

HUGE rooms. I felt like I was in a palatial palace when staying here. Bedroom, living room and kitchen along with enough closet space to hang shirts from my entire closet back home.
Go here for the rooms. Service is average and there isn't much of a atmosphere when staying here.
They have a small restaurant on the ground floor that serves a lot a average food, but to find a place that gives you this kind of space in your room in Manhattan is a rare find. Take advantage of it -

Great view, nice (and patient) staff, HUGE rooms. They let me check in at 9 AM at no extra cost and every night were so patient as we called down to try a new pillow from the pillow bar. The location was really perfect for the Thanksgiving Day Parade and early-AM Black Friday shopping (not to mention getting in and out of the city through Penn Station), and if you're a brand new tourist who has never been up the Empire State Building, it's soooo close!
I've stayed at some nicer hotels in NYC and some not-so-nice hotels, and I would say this one was a great value for the money. I will definitely stay here again when money is tight and I can't splash out on a more luxury hotel. -

The man and I stayed here for a couple of nights recently, and we thoroughly enjoyed the experience. There was fresh fruit and tea everyday downstairs in the lobby, and one night there was even a cheese/fruit/cracker platter for the guests (some sort of promotional thing I think).
The hotel advertises itself as being into spa and fitness. I found that to be generally true as many fitness kits were available, and they even let you pick a pillow you'd like to sleep on from a "pillow menu." The only downside was that new equipment was coming into the gym, so for two days we were without. But we got to use the gym at their sister hotel just a couple of blocks away, so it was ok.
Location is good, and the Barking Dog (the restaurant next to it) has a good breakfast menu. We stayed in a junior suite, with two queen beds, a kitchen, a huge desk (with internet access you have to pay $10/day for), and a great view. -

I stayed here for 4 nights about 2 weeks ago and I thought it was pretty average. There were pros and cons. The room was huge! It was larger than my girlfriends studio in the city--you even get a kitchen. This place was in a good location and the staff was so friendly! So if you are not super picky, stay here. They have a pillow menu that is really cool but I didn't test out the different types.
I wouldn't stay here again because I'm a tad bit picker with my hotels. The room design and furniture was totally dated. The TV was from 1992 and I didn't feel like I was on vacation. The kitchen was from 60's and it was just not as modern as I anticipated. I was expecting 4 stars and I got 3. The room was kind of dark, I didn't like the fact that you couldn't get wireless so I had to sit at the desk to do work late at night.
This hotel just needs a revamp with style...thats pretty much it. -

To be fair, I have to say my expectations were quite high for this hotel after I stayed at the Affinia in Chicago (which is AWESOME). The rooms at the Dumont need to be renovated, and I mean completely. Not just on the surface. While having a normal sized refrigerator and "full" kitchen could be useful, I don't see how anyone would use it in a city with such great food within walking distance in every direction. The kitchen in our room was outdated and kind of dingy. So we didn't really appreciate its being there. The bathroom was tiny. So tiny in fact that it was uncomfortable. There wasn't any space in there to put anything down, so women beware...you're going to have to put your makeup on in a tiny spice with nowhere to balance your stuff. In my opinion, they should get rid of the dingy kitchen and expand the bathrooms.
Although the hotel seemed clean, it didn't feel as clean as one would hope. Maybe that's because its in need of a renovation.
For the price and location, it was worth staying there. But if you're planning on spending any time in your room or expecting a beautiful and luxurious hotel, look elsewhere. -

Good location, great rooms, wonderful staff. Splurge for a room with a view. As I am typing this I am enjoying views of the Chrysler building and the East river from a corner room. Our room has been updated with a new flat screen TV. New mattresses delivered for the rooms this am. My second stay here and I will return!
Quick note, on the way home I realized I left behind a battery charger and battery for my camera. A quick call to the hotel lost and found, they had found it while inspecting the room and are sending it right out to me.
Thanks Dana, you were a wonderful help, what fantastic service! -

WHAT A VIEW! When I stay Midtown, I stay at the Affinia Dumont. In my opinion, the customer service ranks among the Very Best in NYC. The charming bellmen are the one of the many reasons I keep coming back. (Donald, you're my man!)
An intimate lobby welcomes you in with smiling faces and complimentary fruit and tea. The wait won't be long, as the front desk staff is polite, prompt, and positively prepared to have you enjoying your stay every step of the way.
This is a fitness suite hotel so be sure and grab a yoga mat and DVD before heading to your suite. There will be plenty of space to move, as rooms range from 400-650 sq. ft. Complete with a full kitchen, sitting area, and desk, the rooms at the Affinia Dumont will give you a home away from home. Aveda bath products and your choice of Dream Pillows will help you rest well.
There are many services available at this hotel...just make sure you find out what they are. Ask the front desk for a list of amenities and services. Don't get left out!
BOTTOM LINE: I love, love, love this hotel and I would recommend it every day of the week and twice on Sunday! Thank you to all the very special employees that always make my stay purrrfection!
FYI: TripAdvisor ranks this hotel #8 out of 420 hotels in NYC. It is also the recipient of the 2009 Travelers Choice Award (2 years running).
Friendly Tip #1: Be sure and ask for a corner suite facing the Chrysler Building to get best view. And if money is no object, book the VIP Fitness Suite that comes complete with living area, separate bedroom and private exercise studio with steam room.
Friendly Tip #2: Room service is provided by the Barking Dog restaurant but is only available from 7am to 11pm. Not to worry, a grocery shopping service is available so you can stock up that kitchen with your favorite foods. -

One of my most favorite hotels!
I love the selection of pillows and the kitchenette is so convenient! I had an amazing view of the Hudson and Chrysler building from one of the top floors. Fabulous views, fabulous hotel!
