I've used Yelp for a long time and finally signed up for an account.  As a result this is my first review and there is no better place to start with than this one.

We have taken our dog here many times for both day care and overnight visits.  The facility is divided into areas for small dogs and large dogs so no one gets overwhelmed.  You must bring your dog in for an evaluation before they let you leave your dog to make sure they are social.  The entire place is cage-free.  The staff ALWAYS addresses our dog by name and her tail is always wagging before we get in the door.

There is also a very large yard in the back of the facility which is thoroughly fenced in where the dogs are taken to exercise.  In spite of our dog still being less than one year old she comes home exhausted.

My wife and I can recommend this place unconditionally.

We have used Affectionate Pet Care boarding for the past two years and couldn't be happier.  We searched long and hard for a cageless boarding facility that made us feel comfortable during work trips and vacations, and this was the place.

They always recognized our dog Jazz by name when she arrived and Jazz was always excited to be there.  They provide you with a  report card for all of the nights your dog is there and Jazz always came home tired and happy.  The staff is the best!

Even though we live in D.C., we will never hesitate to make the drive over to APC to board our pup.  Highly recommended!

I don't know who gets more excited about coming to this place, my dog or the staff! As soon as we turn onto the street where it's located, he starts jumping around the car. As soon as we walk in the door (which requires pressing a buzzer to let you in, to prevent unauthorized escapes!) the staff start to fawn over my dog. They really live up to their name!

We've only used APC for boarding, and it's the only place we'll use. It's completely cage-free, which means the dogs get to romp around together, inside and out (in a large fenced-in grassy yard). At night, a staff member sleeps in the room with them, and there are futons and mats spread throughout the room for sleeping. There is always someone in the room with the dogs, and all dogs must pass a personality screening before being allowed to stay.

When we come to pick up our dog after a stay, he actually ISN'T excited to see us! He'll run up to the receptionist to get a goodbye belly rub, sniff around one last time, and then, obligingly, finally, walk up to us to take him back to his hum-drum life. We get a report card with his daily events -- how well he ate, who he played with, who he slept with, whether or not his poops were normal...

The only drawbacks: I do wish they had a webcam, like a lot of boarding and daycare places now have. Our dog also comes home with a very strong doggy smell -- definitely recommend getting a bath on the final day. And he's virtually comatose for the first few days after a vacation -- worn out from all the playing!

I've had my Black Lab Tango here every workday since June, when I moved out of DC and into Fairfax in preparation for my retirement from the Feds.  Tango loves it.  He comes home so exhausted from playing that he jumps on the couch and snores like a freight train.  The staff is extremely dependable and courteous.  The fact that it is a cage-free environment and they have beds for the puppies is awesome.  They segregate the big guys from the little ones, so if there's going to be rough play, it is among equals.  And in any case, there's always supervision at all times.  It ain't cheap but the boy is taken care of and happy.  That's what's important to me.

I bring my dog here for boarding, daycare, and grooming. She loves it! The staff is friendly, they have great hours, and are very flexible if you have a special request. These guys are busy though (a good sign) so make sure you get your boarding dates in early, especially around the holidays.

Let me tell you first I have researched and checked out numerous doggy day care centers until I found Affectionate Pet Care.

I've taking my dog here for doggy day care and grooming. The staff here is very nice and definitely all dog lovers. The facility was full of dogs and they learn every dog's name which I find to be so wonderful and personal. They have an indoor room that you can see into for small-medium size dogs. There's always someone in there watching the dogs. It gets pretty crowded in there but there's a futon that the dogs can lay on. A lot of dogs here come on a regular basis so they become friends. The staff writes up 'report cards' and tells you how your dog does throughout the day and who he or she plays with, etc.

What I love about this place is they have a fence-in area outside where they let the dogs play and do their business. My dog is trained to never go 'potty' inside and having the option for her to go outside throughout the day is wonderful (unlike many other doggy day care facilities where the dogs strictly stay indoors).

I always take my dog here for grooming. They do a wonderful job and do what I ask. Except I think my dog came home with an irritated underbelly where they had to shave her. It only bothered her for a day and I wasn't too concerned. Next time I will just mention to not shave so closely.

I took my dog somewhere else once and her mood was totally different. Which I was worried some of the staff members were too rough with her. Not Affectionate Pet Care. My dog comes home happy and tired!

Every time we pull into the parking lot...her tail wags because she just can't wait to play with her new friends.

After trying out several doggie-day-cares in the area, we are happy to be able to take our dog to Affectionate Pet Care. It isn't too close to where we live, but it is on the way to work, which is helpful. The pricing is pretty reasonable, especially if you buy a package.

The staff has always been considerate and friendly, always excited to see my dog. You can definitely tell that they enjoy what they do! The facility is clean, very large and has an outdoor space for the dogs to play when  the weather permits. My dog gets a "report card" for her behavior every day she is there. She is always exhausted when she comes home-- a sign of a good day of play!

They do require a screening prior to daycare/boarding, which you have to make an appointment for. However, they provide a lot of transparency in the process, unlike others in the area (I don't know if this is the case for all screening, but we were able to watch through the window).

We have also boarded our dog here, which has also been a good experience. They do cage-free boarding and dogs can sleep on pet beds, futons, etc. Again, my dog comes home from boarding and is EXHAUSTED! The only thing about boarding-- make sure you make your reservation at least a few months in advance, especially around holidays! These guys fill up fast!

If I could give these guys more stars, I would. I highly recommend!

I love this place. My husband loves this place. And most importantly, our dog loves this place!

Affectionate is the only boarding facility we trust to keep Jeffrey when we leave town for extended trips. We did lots of research before finding Affectionate. We even tried a few other places before deciding this was our only choice. Why? Because they treat dogs the way they are used to being treated at home and how they should be treated.

We love their cage-free boarding. Since Jeffrey doesn't have a crate at home, it seems kind of mean to expect he would be happy staying in a cage for a week. We love their open yard with lots of room to run around and play. A happy dog is a tired dog and Jeffrey always comes home exhausted so we know he loves his stays at Affectionate! We also love that he has interaction during the day with other dogs at doggy day care because it really helps with his socializing skills.

Lastly, my most favorite thing about Affectionate is that someone sleeps in the room with the dogs at night. Jeffrey is a pug and he snores. A LOT. So I know it's not the most comfortable thing for someone to sleep in the same room, but it makes me feel so much better knowing there is a person there in case he would need anything.
I can't recommend Affectionate enough, honestly. There is no other facility we would trust to keep Jeffrey in the Northern Virginia/DC area.

I used one of their pet sitters (Denise) to look in on my cats while I was out of town on a business trip.  She spent a lot of time with me/them on her introductory visit, & took good care of them while I was gone, coping well with their quirks and eccentricities.  Also watered my plants, got my mail etc.  Very reasonably priced - almost underpriced if you ask me, because I'm sure they aren't paying her enough!  (She is a former vet tech).

Highly recommended - ask for her specifically, because another of their pet sitters never got back to me.

I researched a lot of places - a LOT - before finding APC, and I'm very pleased with their service.

I needed someplace that had access to outside - so many dog daycare and boarding places have no outside areas for the dogs either to play or just to relieve themselves, it causes problems if you dog has been trained to only pee outside. At least it causes problems with mine.

I also wanted someplace that wouldn't kennel him if I didn't want to - he's never been crated and combine that with the no access to outside to pee, and well, it is a bad combination.

And lastly I needed to find someplace that I would trust to take care of my dog and his special needs - a Newfoundland at 160lbs is a big baby but he's a big, messy baby, and left cooped up in a kennel does bad things to a Newf, especially if he's gotten wet (either by pee or from laying in the water bowls). The occasional towel-off and rub down to make sure his skin is kept dry is essential, and anyone that has big drooly dogs learns this. If there is water anywhere he's going to be in it, and if he gets overheated and then put into a crate while he's still damp his body heat turns him into a sauna - very bad for the skin and potentially dangerous for the dog.

APC - they have a large outdoor play area with GRASS for the dogs - hooray! They don't crate them so they can sleep and move around where they please - another bonus! And they have had regular experience dealing with Newfoundlands and breeds like them and they know what is required to keep them in good condition.

It was a big relief to meet the staff and see the facilities,  it is very nice to know he is in good hands when I have to leave him. Highly recommended!

As soon as our beagle figures out that we're bringing him here he goes berserk in the back of the car, he just loves coming to APC!  We like the cage-free boarding, and especially the big room inside for all the dogs to sleep together rather than in little cages like in a typical kennel.

We also appreciate that they separate the dogs into two group, big and small, and keep them in separate spaces both outside and inside, especially since our dog gets freaked out by larger dogs.  The fact that they require a meet-and-geet test for dogs before they will accept them for boarding also makes us feel better about leaving him here with some peace of mind.

Overall APC is completely worth the money for boarding or day care, and the obedience course we took through APC went very well.  We highly recommend APC!

We use the boarding and petsitting services at APC. The cageless boarding is perfect for our dog, who is very energetic and likes being around other dogs and people. When we adopted him a year and a half ago, he had serious separation anxiety issues, and although he's gotten significantly better, he still doesn't like being left alone. I feel so much better leaving him at APC when we go away in comparison to a typical boarding facility, since I know that he'll have lots of company and will get lots of exercise. Although it's a little pricey, I definitely think it's worth it. Before your first visit, you'll have to come in and make sure your dog plays nice with others, which helps to make sure they don't accept any dogs with serious aggression issues. They also separate large and small dogs, which I think is a great feature, although our dog is on the border and would be fine in either group.

We also use their in-home petsitting services for our cat. This is a perfect option for cats when you're on vacation, since they can stay in their comfortable surroundings at home. Your petsitter comes in and will spend some time with your pet and take care of its needs, and also take care of anything around the house that you request, like watering plants or getting the mail, and the cost for these visits is very reasonable. We've been using this service and have had the same petsitter for several years now, and have been extremely happy.

Our pets are our babies, and because of the services at APC, I don't need to worry about them when we're out of town. Overall, I would highly recommend APC for both the cage-free boarding and for the in-home petsitting services.
