Dr. Alpan was very skilled with my child.  He took the time to discuss everything in detail and convinced my child to do what was best for her.  I could only think what a good parent he will be someday!
The staff is always helpful and kind.  The front office girl is quite accomodating and the assistants have always been friendly and caring.
I have been most impressed with Dr. Alpan himself.  He has always taken care of my concerns with utmost professionalism.

I recently went in for an Invisalign consultation with Dr. Alpan who is an Elite provider of Invisalign.  (As an aside, Elite Provider status is given to those people who treat more than X cases per year or X cases historically -- it is no indicator of quality of service or quality of treatment of the office.)

I really enjoyed meeting his friendly treatment coordinator who was very warm and welcoming.

Dr. Alpan is a typical medical-field personality type -- not as personable as the treatment coordinator, but nice nonetheless.  I thought he answered my questions very well, but it was definitely more of a Q&A session rather than a very thorough explanation of what exactly to expect from the Invisalign process.

As for the dental technician I worked with, I was not at all impressed.  The one in particular that I worked with was strangely cold and brusque.  I was in a room with her having photos taken of my teeth/smile from various angles while sitting in an upright chair in front of a blue screen (most dental offices put you in a dental chair).  She handed me these plastic mouth stretchers and told me to put them in.  (Now, if I hadn't already have had another consultation with another orthodontist, I wouldn't have known what to do with them.  She didn't even bother explaining exactly what to do.)  The process is moderately uncomfortable -- the plastic stretchers rub against your gums.  She had a digital SLR camera in her hand and was taking photos with one hand (the thing is heavy -- you need two hands).  She had to take several photos since the photos kept coming out blurry (prolonging the suffering).  The flash was blinding (since it was only about 6 inches from my face) and the flash unit did not have a diffuser.  After I thought we were finally done, she reviews the photos and says she has to redo a few of them since I had a little food stuck in the back molars. She handed me floss and had me floss right in front of her.  I took a look at the photos she showed me and there was barely any bits of food -- it was so negligible.  I asked her if it was really necessary.  She said yes, so I complied so that I could get done as fast as possible.

Later, while I was in mid-discussion of the proposed course of Invisalign treatment with Dr. Alpan, the same dental technician interrupted and asked if she could have her rubber band back (a beige run-of-the-mill office rubber band that she gave to me to tie back my hair into a ponytail).  I looked at her, and she wasn't joking.  I stared at Dr. Alpan in incredulity, and looked through my purse and told her I couldn't find it.  Um...seriously strange, right?

The people you hire to work for you are a direct reflection of you. Anyways, I hope the dental technician was just having a bad day.  At any rate, I'm going with my gut -- I don't feel comfortable having treatment at Dr. Alpan's office even though he seems to be a good orthodontist (by reputation) because of my impression of his dental staff.

Well, I will try to write all my upsets in the nicest way possible, keeping them as factual as possible. However, I easily get carried away with my reviewing. Hopefully my x-rays and photos are transferred to my new orthodontist by the time I post this review. : )

Like Karen E. (who, I just noticed, has taken her review down), I've personally experienced the multitude of incompetence from staff and doctor. Here are a few examples:

NOTE -  If you don't have time to read all these examples, I can tell you the simplest thing - This office/doctor/staff is in my top three worst ever experienced.

    1. First visit - They lied to me big time
I went in with this quote - $700 for new retainers plus a Yelp coupon of $250. When the visit was almost complete, they decided to tell me I couldn't use the Yelp coupon because they were giving me a huge deal already. They claimed - normally "New Patient" retainers are $1200. It seemed like a lie, so a few weeks later I had a friend call with my same situation. He was quoted at $700. When my friend asked about if they may have a "New Patient Rate," they said no. They said it's always $700 for new spring aligner retainers.

Note - Later that first day, after the first visit, I called back in my frustration and Ann Marie offered to give me $300 worth of adjustments free of charge (to compensate for the Yelp coupon misunderstanding). So that's something positive... but I will never use the discounts because-

    Read On.

    2. Taking the mold for the retainers -
Since they squeezed me in (which seems to happen a lot - squeezing too many people in) right at lunchtime and the ladies wanted to get to lunch, my molds were done incorrectly. The upper - 40-50 seconds. The lower - 10 seconds at most. So the retainers came back with a horribly bad fit on the lowers - excruciating pain - had to shave off bottom left of the retainer!

    3. Staff -
Not really self-starters. No attention to detail/not observant. Just kind of there. The one person I did enjoy interacting with however, was Claudia. Thanks, Claudia for being so personable.

    4. Bad adjustment -
Dr. Alpin, for some reason, adjusted one of my upper teeth to go the wrong way. The whole point of getting a spring aligner retainer was to correct a tooth that was too far back. Well, what did he do? - he pushed it back further! I will have to pay someone else to fix it. I don't trust this office!!! (In his defense, when I made the appointment to have him fix his mistake - he acknowledged the mess up and said he would keep adjusting it until it was fixed. I just really don't trust him anymore.)

The other thing that bothered me about the way Dr. Alpin works - he filed my teeth without warning and without asking. It is something I did not want, and would have declined. I now have extra gaps on my upper right "problem" tooth. It's been three weeks and the gaps are not closing up. Food gets stuck in them constantly. It's something he took away that I can never get back again.

Oh and the other thing that bothered me with his adjustments - after adjusting he never asked me how it felt.

    5. Weird and unsettling personality -
Dr. Alpin says some REALLY weird things. For me, it came off as mild flirting until he made a comment about how his head would touch my chest if I didn't lift my head up more for him to see into my mouth. I was totally offended! That was the final decision on not going back to this office, despite my two free adjustments with my Yelp coupon. Well, that and the fact that, due to miscommunication from his receptionist, he wouldn't work with me (and got visibly red with upset over miscommunication - and took it out on me), and then in turn left the room ending my last visit - when I wasn't ready to end it. I wanted a proper adjustment - the reason I made the appointment.

    6. Two final negatives -
    A - Dirty dusty office
B - Horrible grammar/spelling errors on their reading materials, which in turn carries over to the whole experience - no attention to detail.

Overall, I would not recommend anyone visit this office for any reason.

NOTE to parents - I would not send your kids to this office. Pay attention to #5.

YES - that's the record for my longest Yelp review ever. AND, I've condensed it. There were actually other bad things that happened.... And I only visited this office four times!

    Was this review …?

The staff here is very friendly and efficient.  Dr. Alpan is professional and helpful in explaining his services.  I haven't had one bad experience and am very happy with the progress in my treatment.

If I had one complaint it would be that there is no validation for building parking, however, the services of Dr. Alpan's office keep me coming back regardless.

We have been with Dr Alpan's office for the past few years. We have 2 kids who are in various stages of braces.  Dr Alpan is great and very patient with the kids explaining everything  he does and the overall plan.

The office could not be more accommodating. We mostly visit the BH office but have had occassions to visit the office near downtown and they always fit us in.

Anne Marie is very helpful working thru the insurance craziness. Braces are very expensive but compared to friends who go to other docs, Alpan's office is quite reasonable.

I would highly recommend Aesthetic Orthodontics.  Since I am an adult professional, I wanted braces that weren't easily noticeable, so I opted for lingual braces and Dr. Alpan was one of the few orthodontists who was trained and certified to work with iBraces™ (now called Incognito™ Braces) in the Los Angeles area.  Dr. Alpan and his entire staff are very friendly and extremely professional.  I was always seated promptly around my appointment time and was in and out of the office in a reasonable time frame.  They were very flexible with my payment plan and I experienced no hidden charges during my entire treatment.  I'm also very happy with the results and would recommend Aesthetic Orthodontics to anyone looking for orthodontist.
