First of all this rating is based on if I actually enjoyed deep fishing, and did not have children with me. I cant fault the charter for this!!
The boat was beautiful, and the service was exceptional. We were on the boat for 8 hours and they took us way into the deep blue sea. We caught one 20 lb Mahi Mahi, and if the fish is under 30 lbs they let you keep it. We were staying at a condo where we were able to BBQ, so they cut it up into beautiful steaks and we enjoyed fresh Mahi Mahi for the next 2 days (would have lasted longer, but I got sick of it so we gave it to our neighbors). This was my favorite part, and it is important to note because from what I hear, a lot of the boats do not give you the fish. There is no fresher fish than this! It would have been cool if we would have had more action in 8 hours, but that is just the life of fishing and to no fault of the boat or the crew.
My only gripe would be the cost. It was about $250 per person, and we had 4. They charged full price for our 2 kids (8 and 15 months) so it was about $1000 when it was all said and done (more with tip). There is a limit of 6 people besides the crew, so to them it doesnt matter how old the person is- if you bring a kid, that is one less person they can bring. In this instance there was only one other person anyway so it was semi private.
If it was just me and my hubby it would have been worth it, but it isnt the the thing to do with kids, especially 15 months! I have no idea what I was thinking. I had no concept of the fact that we were DEEP sea fishing- meaning WAY out there- very very rough (think perfect storm) which is not relaxing at all and you cant let the kids walk around because it gets pretty scary. Also if you have any inkling of sea sickness, or if you dont know if you are prone or not-- TAKE MEDS ahead of time!! I personally like bonine, and I also wore the acupressure bracelets. My 8 year old was miserably sick. No fun- but again, to no fault of the boat- just thought I would put my 2 cents in!
This would be a fun trip for adults, who enjoy being way out there, and when you do catch a fish it is really exciting. If you do choose to go deep fishing, I would recommend this boat for the quality of the boat and service.Listed in: Maui Fav's
