Review from Jeffrey T.
Fair Oaks, CA
"JURY IS STILL OUT" regarding Adventure Sports. My nod leans toward "yeah, I like it" I'm sure that this store will never get 5 stars from this reviewer (even though they keep getting my $$$).
I've always been a fan of the local retailer. This probably because I worked for a mom and pop retail outlet for many years, always trying to get the edge on the corporate chain stores. That's what Adventure Sports is as it relates to kayaks, paddleboards, etc...
After having bought some smaller closeout items from them (snowshoes) I decided that I'd consider them for a larger item... an SUP (stand up paddleboard). REI almost got the sale, but Adventure Sports "worked with me" so they must be doing something right!
Are they professional? NO. Are the service people courteous? SOMETIMES. Is their website lousy? INDEED IT IS. Do they have a "boatload" (literally) of inventory falling out their ears? YES.
Would I buy from them again? Probably... but only after doing a great deal of homework! -

Q: When you build a store 20 douche-bags wide, 40 douche-bags long, 10 douche-bags high, and then fill it with douche-bags, what do you get?
A: Adventure Sports.
That may be harsh, but after several visits, I feel safe in that assessment. Adventure Sports is the nearest whitewater gear store to me, and in my gear head infancy, I've though several times to myself, "oh I need X, sure I could buy it on line but why not buy from an independent, maybe Adventure Sports has what I need." The answer is almost always no (or maybe they do, but the joint is such a mess, it is impossible to find anything). I don't understand how such a place exists, there are always at least five employees there at a time, even though I've been the only customer during my visits. However given such an excellent help to need ratio, in each instance I have not received much help, and what help comes, comes with a shit attitude. Most of the time though, the employees are happy to discuss the merits of a fight between Jean-Claude Van Damme and Steven Seagel (not joking, what year is this?).
I got involved in whitewater rafting and kayaking partially because of the "river love," but all Adventure Sports makes me want to do is "River Hate!" -

Sacramento, CA
I really wanted to like this place. I really did. I went to the old location about 5 years ago and it was friendly and they answered questions. I wanted a kayak so last month I went to the new place about 10 minutes after they opened on a Saturday. There were about 5 or 6 guys talking about the night before at the counter. I walked in and hovered for a few seconds but got no eye contact. So I wandered around looking at stuff and walked by them again. Nothing. I wandered about 10 more minutes and nothing. Then I left. I bought my new kayak at REI yesterday.
