Review from Roger S.
North Hollywood, CA
We had a great time on this tour. We did the #4 tour which was a 45 minute tour that combined the Hollywood landmarks with the beach. I would not suggest anything less if you can afford it. We found at the end of 45 minutes, we would have liked to stay up longer. As noted in other reviews, we had booked a flight in April and it was cancelled due to visibility. The rescheduled flight worked however. The first one was a 12 noon flight but when we rescheduled, we booked 5pm thinking the haze would burn off by then. Oh, and they were very accommodating in remapping the flight a bit when we wanted to fly over the LA Zoo and Warner Brothers.
All in all, highly recommended, think about when you do book and be prepared to be flexible if having to rebook and try to take the longer flight. -

I took Rollence P. on the Romance & Sunset tour for our monthly date night last night, and we had an amazing time! Art was our pilot, and when I met him, I recognized his voice from the myriad times I called in advance with a bunch of questions - all always answered in a very friendly and patient manner. When we got there, we filled out a waiver, then got on a scale because Art needed to know how much weight we'd add - I told him my purse weighs about 20 pounds (I may or may not be exaggerating), which is why the number was what it was. Then we got into his little golf cart and made the short ride to the helicopter.
By the way, you get champagne and chocolates on this tour. Glass isn't allowed on the grounds, so we drank out of styrofoam cups, but my beverage still tasted delicious!
Before we took off, Art offered to take pictures of me and my husband, and then the tour began. Totally amazing. It was the first time for both my husband and me in a helicopter, and I highly recommend seeing LA this way at least once. Our pilot was great at making us feel safe, flying, AND pointing out various sites that would interest us.
I highly recommend Adventure Helicopter Tours! -

I had to call them again to demand for a refund for a service that was never received - refer to above comments.
I was eventually refunded the amount. AND I COME TO FIND OUT A MONTH LATER without my knowledge or consent, was REBILLED THE FULL AMOUNT.
Stay away from this business. This has never happened to me before. The owner even warned me that they will charge me despite of my attempt to cancel from the credit card company.
This company needs to be reported to the BBB.1 Previous Review: Show all »

3.5* for the pilot and the tour, I'll give the extra 0.5* to my bf, who planned this outing.
He bought a Groupon for a Romance & Sunset Tour. The following is a description of the tour from Adventure Helicopter's website, with my comments in (parentheses).
-------------------------------------------------- -------------------------------------------------- ---------------
This unforgettable "adventure" departs during sunset where you and loved one will experience the gift of flight. This romantic adventure allows you to enjoy drinking champagne while enjoying the breathtaking sunset of Los Angeles. (We were there half an hour early but the tour started half an hour late because they were short-staffed. The tour did not depart DURING sunset. It was already dark when we left and I couldn't see anything except lights.)
This tour includes complimentary champagne for two! (Yes)
Historic Landmarks:
Van Nuys Airport (Yes)
Encino Hills and Reservoir (Dunno)
Getty Center Art Museum (No)
Westwood (No)
UCLA. (No)
Century City (Yes, he only pointed it out because I told him I worked in CC)
Nakatomi Building in Die Hard One (no)
Will Rogers State (No)
Pacific Palisades (No)
Riviera Country Club (No)
Brentwood Country Club (No)
Celebrity Homes:
Arnold Schwarzenegger (No)
Sylvester Stallone (No)
Eddie Murphy (No)
Mike Meyers (No)
Scarlett Johansson (No)
Approximate flight time 20-25 minutes. (No. Bf filmed the whole thing from start to finish and it was less than 19 minutes.)
-------------------------------------------------- -------------------------------------------------- ------------
Basically, what we got was their "Twilight Tour" but I didn't really want to see everything in the dark so it would have been nice if they had started on time. It was a weekday and I left work early for this. If they were running late, I would've appreciated a courtesy call so I could've stayed at work longer.
That said, the pilot. Art, was fantastic. He was polite, fun, and apologetic about being late. He was easy to talk to and offered to take pictures for us (pics didn't turn out that great because it was too dark outside). And of course, thanks to the bf for taking me along and putting up with my impatience. Let me just clarify: I really did have a good time and I would recommend Art and Adventure Helicopters to others.Listed in: Groupons and Other Deals

He was trying to contact a person on another timezone to an local LA area code? (where? Europe?) This guy said he was a pilot, I hope he's not making the same mistakes elsewhere.

CREEPY - that's the only word to describe it. I had a very ODD experience with these people. My lady and I did the sunset tour a few days ago and the whole experience was mediocre at best.... But what throws me off is that this WEIRDO ARMENIAN GUY CALLS MY HOUSE PAST 1:30AM!!!! for what? Did my phone number magically transfered from the invoice to his personal cell phone?? All he said was he was trying to call a different couple??!! Really!?! IN THE MIDDLE OF THE NIGHT!!? what kind of business is this when you call your customers when they are sleeping?
This goes beyond unprofessionalism. It creeped out my girl, and the only explanation I have is that this guy has issues and has STALKER tendencies and who knows what else.
This is not the best place to take your significant other unless you want her to feel uncomfortable and creeped out. Don't pay attention to the 5 star reviews, most of them are probably fake and a fraud. There are much beter places that will treat you better and offer a better experience.Comment from Crystal S. of Adventure Helicopter Tours 3/2/2012

We bought a 30 minute flight for 3 for my son's 4th birthday. My father flew fixed wing and helicopters since the '30s until giving it up in the '90s. I grew up flying, but our son never got to fly with him.
Arturo, the Adventure Helicopter Tours pilot, was very professional and an excellent pilot. I was also impressed with his multitasking between radio chatter and showing us points of interest. The R44 is a very pleasant helicopter to be in, quiet and smooth at speed.
Note: Adventure does offer a discount (at Pacoima anyway) for people driving from OC. This is sensible since the drive isn't short and there are competitors.
Overall, while not a cheap date, Adventure is well priced and professional. Our son loved the tour! -

Just had an amazing experience here! It was the first time in a helicopter for either D. or I, and it was more fun than I ever could have imagined! The staff was great--friendly, knowledgeable, and really made the whole experience even better. We'll definitely be back for more time in the air soon!

My girlfriend and I went to redeem our Groupon this past weekend. As this was both our first helicopter rides, it was quite a thrill. Flying eye level with the downtown buildings and banking around the Hollywood Hills next to "The Bat Cave" was some of the great experiences. Our pilot, Josh, made us feel very comfortable and was very nice when assaulted by my barrage of questions about helicopters and flying in general. One thing to note, the tours are always weather permitting... we had to reschedule many times due to rain (which of course was not a problem). Even the weekend that we went, there was a marine later blowing in, affecting visibility of the ocean. All in all, It was a very enjoyable tour. For the price, I wished it could have lasted a bit longer but I would definitely still recommend this tour to others.

Had an amazing experience!
It was my first helicopter ride, and I had a wonderful time. Service was great and pilot Shawn Baker was the best part of this tour. He made it feel safe and fun at the same time. The only downer was that the tour felt short (less than 20-25 mins)and didn't match up to the description that was listed under the tour package itself. Otherwise I highly recommend all of you to turn too Adventure Tours to have an experience of a lifetime!!! The Sunset Tour is awesome! -

Glendale, CA
A great way to see our expansive city. The pilot and staff are personable and professional. The flight was by the numbers and safe; plenty of communication with flight control as well as asking for our comfort level. If you have any reservations about flying, this is no big deal. It's like being in a tall building everywhere you go.
I've been wanting to do this for years and the Groupon deal came at the right time. For the Groupon price, the duration seemed right, as much as I would have liked to have spent more time in the air. Perhaps next time I'll aim for something closer to sundown for the warmer ambient lighting.
Make sure to park inside the gates. If the gates close before you leave, a car is required to activate the ground sensor and someone at AHT will have to drive up to the gate. :) -

I recently surprised my wife for her birthday with a 25 minute helicopter tour. She was certainly surprised and couldn't stop talking about it for day's. Avis, the owner, is one down to earth dude. I can totally picture us hanging out at a BBQ drinking beer :) Shawn, the pilot, was absolutely awesome. You're a great pilot Shawn! I highly recommend these guys for your next adventure.

I just returned from my awesome experience with Adventure Helicopter Tours, and will definitely return! I bought a deal on Zozi for a 15 minute red carpet flight over the Hollywood sign but, lucky me, my flight turned into 30 min. over Hollywood, Downtown and the Valley. Saw all the major sights and then some. The pilot, Art, is both skilled in flying (I felt very safe) and is a great narrator. He landed our little red Clipper II on a dime. I got lots of great pics and am a very satisfied customer. I've lived in L.A. all my life and really enjoyed seeing my beautiful city up close. Definitely worth every penny!

I called for more info about their Groupon deal and was given patient and professional attention. They answered my myriad of questions (I'm trying to get over a fear of flying!) and made sure I understood the Groupon time line and the regular rates if I did not sign up prior to expiration or if I purchased and did not schedule in time. I'm not sure what happened with the bad reviews but I had the exact opposite service even without signing up, unusual in my experience with Groupon deals.

This is the only time I am sorry that Yelp doesn't allow you to award negative stars.
My wife purchased the valentines day Groupon and called to schedule the flight, she spoke to the pilot and the owner and scheduled the trip for last monday. All day we tried to contact the company to confirm the flight, but heard nothing from them. We made the one hour drive to the airport, about 15 minutes before the flight we got hold of the pilot, who had informed us firstly that the helicopter was down for maintenance, and that the owner had removed us from the schedule ( he was aware of this, because the pilot was the one who originally booked us). I called and spoke to the pilot who informed me the reason that no one answered the phones was that the line was transferred to the owners cell phone and he wasn't answering the calls or messages. He rescheduled us for next week, however I asked that the owner give me a call and so we can discuss the situation (I took the afternoon off work and don't appreciate my time being taken advantage of). I gave him until this morning (Thursday, 3 days) to return my call, he did not.
This morning I called and the owner, Avis, answered the phone. I mentioned to him what had happened and that I had left several messages for him, that he hadn't returned. He was very beligerant from the start, telling me that he didn't see a problem with what happened, and that I should just reschedule, no appology, no consideration. He then asked me if this was a Groupon, which I replied yes, he then proceeded to shout at me telling me to call Groupon for a refund and then he hung up on me.
When I am putting my life and my families life in the hands of a company, I want to know that they are a responsible outfit. If this is the way that Avis maintains the lifeblood of his business, his cutomers, it makes me wonder how he maintains his aircraft...1 Previous Review: Show all »

I don't normally travel around in helicopters but found a great Living Social deal for this business. I expected to be ok just because flying around in a helicopter sounds fun. But what made the flight incredible was the pilot. Unfortunately I forgot his name, but he was personable and friendly. You could tell he took time to figure us out and see if we wanted banter back and forth or just enjoy the ride in silence.
The route was amazing. We not only flew over several movie studios and houses of the stars, we even flew between buildings downtown! It was like being inside a movie when they shoot those dramatic fly-overs. Definitely a highlight. Then there was the Hollywood sign. He did a quick fly by on one side the swung around and hovered a bit to give us time to take some great shots of the sign.
Located at such a small airport, I thought the experience would be lacking in the customer service department. But the flight was everything they promised and a little more. I would definitely go back for the coastline sunset flight. I would also recommend it as an impressive start to a romantic evening. -

Awesome tour, our pilot talked to us the whole time explaining what we were looking at, very nice and friendly. The tour was long enough and it delivered what they said. I love it and I will for sure come back and do it all over again.

Booked this for a birthday 24 hours before over the phone. Was able to get all the details and pricing straight-forwardly.
Upon arriving, we settled the bill, signed our life away and I mentioned my package with the champagne. We got that chilled right away, which we were allowed to drink before, during, and/or after the flight.
We met our Pilots, Ryan and Art, who were exceptional with their customer service and very personable with us. They created many laughs and jokes with us as to make our trip much more enjoyable.
They were both willing and offered to take pictures for us before our flight.
Our tour was LA ADVENTURE TOUR 4 where we were able to see landmarks like the Hollywood sign, celebrity homes, and a quick trip to the beach.
We flew for 45 minutes and Ryan and Art made sure we got the close-up pictures that we wanted of certain scenery.
We had such a great time and saw so much! I'd recommend them. Prices were reasonable considering service and flight time. -

Half Moon Bay, CA
While in LA last weekend, a bud invited me along for his birthday gift - an adrenaline rushed cruise through the Hollywood Hills in a doors off helicopter. Being the demure wallflower that I am, I declined.
NOT.
We drove out to Pacoima (what the heck is a pacoima?)) early Sunday morning...turns out that on Sunday mornings, you can actually go 60 miles in 60 minutes in the LA area...who knew? So after we blew off the extra hour we had to wait (since we had planned on more typical LA weekend traffic patterns), we went to the AHT terminal, where we filled out paperwork (read: signing life away), and then got on a golf cart for the ride out to the copter.
And oh what a cool little copter it was. No doors, barely big enough to fit four (that would definitely have required a large shoehorn), it offered promise of fantastic views of the terrain while flying. And ohhhh did it deliver!
We took off and headed SW - flying over the Van Nuys Bud/swill plant and the VN airport, before heading into the Hollywood Hills. After buzzing a few stars homes (neither one of us really cared one way or the other about where spelling/smith/osborne/whoever lives, but I suspect that a large part of their target might), we headed out Malibu Canyon to the coast. Talk about a temp shift! Flying south to the Santa Monica pier, we then flew over UCLA, Century City, and W. Hollywood, before heading into Hollywood proper...following the main drag, of course.
We then flew to downtown LA, checking out prep work at Dodger Stadium as they got ready for hosting the Nationals (they crushed same 3-1)...we JUST beat the flight restrictions (no one flies over as the game gets closer to start time).
Buzzing downtown, we then headed to the Hollywood sign, doing a photo op and a CLOSE fly-by. Finally, we headed back via Laurel Canyon and after buzzing Burbank Airport, headed back to Pacoima.
All in all, a fantastic way to see LA - as long as I had lived there, never even thought of doing this...definitely my bad!
The only thing that got to me was that the pilot looked like he was in grade school....(it CAN'T be my age group..no way!). Other than that nit, this was uber-awesome...highly recommended! -

Our helicopter ride was awesome! Our pilot was cool and gave us an amazing 45 minute tour around Los Angeles, Malibu, and Santa Monica. He made the ride so smooth. My 2 friends that went with me- this was their first helicopter ride and they had no problems with queasiness. Our pilot was also very personable with us by using our names to point things out. I felt like we knew each other for years.
Overall, I would recommend Adventure Helicopter Tours if you're looking for a great tour of the Los Angeles area.

I've always wanted to experience the feeling of flying in a helicopter, and Groupon made this offer one I could not pass up. I figure, hey, even if I hate it, it won't cost me an arm and a leg. My girlfriend and I happened to have the same weekday off, so that's when I scheduled it, figuring the weekends are pretty busy. We were NOT disappointed! Our pilot, Art Romero, was awesome in both personality and flying skills. He made our flight very enjoyable, and dropped knowledge on us about all that we were seeing. I hope to one day see him attain his goal of becoming a medical/rescue pilot. We were lucky to have very good visibility (early January, 1pm) due to high pressure systems, and our flight was incredibly smooth for what one would consider a small craft (though I never felt cramped, and I'm 6'3"!!!). We opted to fly toward the coast, over Santa Monica, and downtown LA/Hollywood. It was very cool to see from above, all the places I know so well from having lived here. You can get some great pictures and videos without blur. If you're on the fence about doing this, don't be... it makes for a totally cool experience!

This was a great experience, we could not have had a better time. Art and Ryan were super accommodating and willing to adjust the tour to meet our interests. They had great senses of humor, and made the trip extra fun. Really nice guys.
We rescheduled our trip a few times because of the weather, and they were great about it. (suggested it even) We got into it with a Groupon, and we upgraded to a longer tour and took all doors off on the helicopter. Super, super fun and cool. Way, way worth it.
Seeing LA this way is incredible, I can't recommend it more. I want to go on the night tour next time. -

I bought the Groupon deal a few months ago. Had absolutely no trouble setting up our 30 min flight on the exact day and time (sunset!!) I wanted. Our pilot Ryan was a peach... great guy!! Beautiful, comfortable, fun flight. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED. I will be going back and bringing other friends as much as possible, if not plan a whole birthday party around this. DO IT. :)

This was great! We took a ride for my husband's birthday today. 30 minutes got us a tour of the highlights around LA. Very cool to see.
Bought the tour off groupon.... excellent deal for what we got. Our pilot was Shawn Baker and he was great! Funny, informative and even offering to take our picture at the end!
We want to do another tour again sometime! -

My girlfriend and I showed up on saturday afternoon and had one of our most fun dates ever. Shawn was our pilot and guide. Breathtaking views. Unbelievably smooth ride. Even though I know LA really well, it was so much fun being able to see the city from a new perspective. Obviously it would be fun for a tourist too. Don't forget your camera, and remember to bring some cash for tip.

WOODLAND HLS, CA
The flight was great and our pilot Shawn Baker was amazing. Our pilot was orginally Ryan, but we decided to re-schedule due to bad weather. Ryan was kind enough to give his personal number because trying to get a hold of the office to make an appointment was almost impossible. (reason for only 4 stars) it seemed very unorganized and confusing as to where we were supposed to go once we got there but after calling Ryan all was good to go. Thanks Ryan and Shawn for the amazing experience!

I love Los Angeles & have wanted to do this for years. It was a fantastic experience! I highly recommend it, (especially with all of the doors off)!!! My friend & I had a groupon & upgraded a bit, but weren't at all pressured. Art gave us a nice reception upon our arrival & Ryan was exceptionally accommodating. They even buzzed my friend's building downtown & flew over my place! Can't wait to go again. I even offered to help out in the hangar if I can earn flight time credit ;)

A very big THANKS to our pilot, Vince, Mike and Vaughn who took our reservation! It was an AMAZING adventure!!! =)
Vaughn was nice enough to let us know that we can call to reschedule our tour the day of, in case the weather is not good. Weather forecast for Saturday was cloudy BUT it turned out to be a nice day. We're so happy we decided to go for it eventhough it's a lil cloudy. The sun was out but was not blazing hot. If you're sitting in the front with the pilot, it would've been too hot to get the direct sunlight.
Vince our pilot was very nice, informative and made our tour not only pleasant but enjoyable. He kept us informed of what's going on... how he's communicating with the tower and other pilots in the area... and when it'll be a little bumpy when we get near the mountains... how it'll get a lil colder when we pass the mountains going towards the beach... it was surprisingly NOT SCARY at all! He was indeed a great pilot... smooth take off and landing. =)
We highly recommend them!!! -
